Fist time at restaurant with a Client. I dont know what was worse, the food or the service. Very dissatisfied. I was served a meal, about 20 minutes before the rest of the table and what I ate was NOT what I ordered. Everything go worse and when it came time to pay, you had to look at an iPad and difficult to check. I paid, however I am sure I over paid and I am sitting here in bed angry. My fiancé drove by this place often and we finally stopped by this weekend for dinner on Friday night. It's Oktoberfest which I assume is the best time to come around! We were so excited for beer and food. And this place did not disappoint! First I must say service was great. The waiter was extremely kind and knowledgeable, and checked up on us often. He was also very engaging and gave us his personal opinion on different menu items which was helpful and made our experience so much more personable and pleasant. The food itself was also amazing. We decided to order the pretzel, and the sausage sampler from the app list, and the currywurst for the entree. The pretzel was legit the best pretzel I've ever had. And the sausage platter was amazing and delicious. I feel like we didn't even need the currywurst. It was basically more bratwurst with fries, both topped with curry ketchup. In hindsight I would've replaced the currywurst with a third appetizer. We got the Oktoberfest beer flight which was also delicious. The weather was beautiful as well so we sat outside. Would absolutely recommend you sit outside while the weather is still reasonable. And if not, still visit! They have plenty of indoor seating. The exterior looks dated, but enticing. The interior offers appealing German decor. The intimate bar is nicely sectioned off from several spacious dining rooms. We started with the best pretzel we have had as an appetizer. We both loved our entrees of chicken and classic veal schnitzel. I was surprised that the menus offered a beer flight. We used to come for the fish fry, which was amazing crispy beer batter, my 15yr old son couldn't get enough update the jumbo wings are the bomb, giant pretzels, the most delicious fried cheese curds. This restaurant is absolutely amazing. I went for the first time during covid and I was unbelievably impressed. They staff was very conscious of all Corona guidelines and the service didn't suffer for it. Our server Natalie was the sweetest thing and so attentive to our needs. We had some food delivered from this restaurant for our wedding(almost a year ago) and it was the best experience. The food was amazingly affordable and arrived on time as well. I am writing this review mostly to thank Dawn for her care and assistance that put the experience over the top. Gosh, it seems like this place has been here forever! I remember coming here years ago...but twice as of recent. I came here with my parents on a Sunday and had chicken kiev - it was OK, I'm thinking they probably do the authentic german food a lot better than meals like that. The soup here is good, and make sure you order the BIG pretzel as an appetizer :) My family also had a sit down Thanksgiving dinner here that was pretty awesome too - they carve your Turkey table side! They also have a bar area with a decent selection of german wine. Definitely check this place out! My husband and I have been coming here for years, when our kids were little it was for special occasions, but now we go just because we love their food so much! Known for it's wonderful German food it's also known for their wonderful Fish Fry on the weekends!! Perch or Cod fried to perfection with excellent cole slaw and fries, though I substituted red cabbage for the fries, theirs is THE BEST! We have never had bad service, though we have our favorite server, Marion! She's very personable, warm, helpful and makes us always feel special, we're always so glad to see her! I was working in the area and looking for somewhere to get lunch. When I drove by Edelweiss I knew I had to stop, it just looked fun. The atmosphere is kitschy old school, there are even betting machines in the bar. There is a beer patio outside that looked like a great place to spend a warm afternoon, but this was not one. The service was good we were warmly greeted, and our server and the bus boy were friendly and took good care of us the entire meal. We started with the pretzel appetizer which was ok, but at the end of the day it's a pretzel. I would definitely try something else as there are many options. For lunch we had Jager Schnitzel and Sauerbraten. The meal started with soup, it was a cream of potato that was appropriately creamy with good flavor. The Sauerbraten was tender and the sweet/sour sauce added nice acidity to the meat. The Jager Schnitzel was very good the breading crispy and the meat tender. We had spatzle and bread dumplings for sides and you can't go wrong with either. We were too full for dessert but there were several options that sounded good. Overall, maybe I over did it for a lunch but it was a enjoyable meal and I will be back next time I am in the area, hopefully the beer patio will be open as that would have been the perfect complement to my lunch! read more

Came in today for lunch bringing my dad and gf. Both love german food and excited to give it a shot since my dad moved to the area. Positives were the pretzel and beer. Negatives were the meal and service. Pork schnitzel tasted dry, the soup of the day seemed watered down, and the apple strudel came out cold. Personally the place inside looks awesome- but based on cold/ luke warm food not sure id come back. Also the server did not refill beverages for an extended period (30 mins) and then when requested for water - forgot. When she finally brought a jug of it- it had a bug or piece of lint floating inside near the bottom of it. After that i lost my appetite. Im sure maybe this was an off day but based on my experience ill look elsewhere most likely for authentic german food read more

Not impressed. My husband and I wanted to try something different so we ended up here. When we first walked in we saw the white tablecloths which made us think we were a bit under-dressed in jeans. The place itself is cute, kind of like Disney's Epcot Center, so we were excited to be there. However, the service and food was way below par. The server rushed us throughout the meal even though he only had one other table at the same time as us. He didn't care to explain anything and practically threw our plates in front of us and walked away. I tried the combination plate, the Edelweiss Platter and my husband had the Wurstplatte. He was satisfied with his mediocre sausages, but my plate looked like a blind person tossed the food on the plate and hoped most of it would stick. Ever heard of presentation? Well don't expect it here. The meat was no big deal - barely had any flavor; the sauerkraut was too sour, the spatzle completely tasteless. I love to try new things, but we will not be back. If you're in the mood for European food, I recommend going to the Polish Buffet close by called the Jolly Inn on Irving Park and Narragansett. It's a lot cheaper, and the food is traditional, yummy comfort food. read more

In Chicago for a few days, I checked Yelp for a place nearby where I was staying (near O'Hare). Nothing came up that I was craving so I searched for German restaurants and Edelweiss came up and it was only a few miles away! Walking in to this place felt like going to a good beerhaus in Germany. Unfortunately, there was nobody eating in the restaurant and only a couple of guys drinking at the bar. I chose to eat at the bar because I hate being the only one eating in a dining room! The bartender/waitress was very sweet and let me know the specials, which I passed on. I went for the Huhnerschnitzel (chicken) with German potatoes and sauerkraut, which came with a salad or soup, (I had the salad). To drink, I had a BBK Octoberfest dark beer, which hit the spot! The food was excellent! The Huhnerschnitzel is two lightly-breaded chicken breasts and they were cooked perfectly! The sauerkraut was the perfect side dish! The German potatoes were great but filling. Maybe it was the lack of customers or something, but to finish it off, when I asked for the bill, I was given a shot glass full of Apple Schnaps, and this tasted so damn good after a big meal! Edelweiss is an excellent, versatile space that has been able to please every possible age group in my circle of friends and family. The first time I came here was for my cousin's christening ten years ago. He then coincindentally returned here for his tenth birthday last year (by choice)! Also, this is a great place to take my grandmother for lunch or dinner, as it reminds her of the food of her youth. The lunch specials are excellent and cheap compared to other German restaurants in the area. While dinner prices are high, you essentially get two meals in one! I cannot remember a time that I finished my meal at Edelweiss. If you want lighter fare, eat at the bar for smaller portions and a nice bar food menu. We traveled here for my friends birthday last year and he was able to finish das boot of BBK in an hour! The beer selection is excellent. A consistent balance of lagers, marzens, weisses, & dunkels. Exactly what every German restaurant should have! I also love that they now have a cute little biergarten outside! Edelweiss is definitely worth venturing out of Chicago for. I am a fan of Edelweiss from years back. So after a drive with my latest honey, she said how about German food. She said how great the brats are at Cellular Field. (Yuuccchhhhh). I said, Yes dear. It was mid afternoon on Saturday. Lunch menu looked great. I/we didn't want a big lunch so we each chose a version of the homemade sausage lunch. She tried the bratwurst & I the knockwurst. This was the best of the wurst! It came with sides of Spaetzle (GREAT!) and sauerkraut (Excellent). People who do not like Kraut must have German Kraut or Polish Kapusta. It was my better half's stepdad's bday (got that?). So from the outside, I can see that this place has been severely neglected. The place looks very dingy and worn down. As I entered, I was not greeted, I was not seated, I also wasn't impressed. We were finally seated and I can see that this place is pretty big with an area for a live band. They did have a guy there singing and playing the accordion, that was super cool. Unfortunately, when we got our menus but it was confusing and they didn't explain the items very well. Nothing seemed to stand out for me to order it. I went with the sampler to try and see what i liked. The soup seemed like it wasn't homemade and it was warm. I don't know about you guys, but I like it hot. We also shared a salad but it seemed real half hazardly put together. Nothing too outstanding about the salad at all. The decor inside seems very outdated and tacky. I have been to several German places and trust me, less is more. They really need to hire me to come in and do some consulting for this place! For my main course, I wasn't a fan of the Red cabbage. It needed less sweetness and more complex flavors. The spatzel was under salted and very bland. The sausage was great and juicy (the saving grace). The rolled meat thing was awesome. Everything else fell to the wayside. I feel like the cost of the food was not worth it. There are three things to talk about at Edelweiss that you should know. Atmosphere: It's REALLY cute. In fact it's a great date or family get together spot and doesn't smell TOO strongly of German food (which can be rather crazy smelling). It's themed to make you feel like you've stepped into an Epcot version of Germany, they also have live music. Service: Rude, curt, intrusive. I'd never go back because of it. Food: It's expensive (you can tell by the fact that they have SALMON as an appetizer), not really for a great casual dine, but if you're celebrating a birthday or special event it's lovely. They have authentic German food which, is VERY fatty (I'd hate to be on Alli and eat here). Baked Forest Mushrooms are a great appetizer. I came with a party of four, no one was up front to greet us, so we decided to walk in and take a look around as we had never been here before. suddenly a woman comes up behind us screaming and yelling at us because we weren't suppose to be in the restaurant. she was yelling "goodbye! goodbye!" in our faces!!! I have been meaning to get here for a couple years and finally did with a couple friends. Classic old school German. Great selection of German brew and food. Was with a friend who speaks German, a definite bonus! I ordered the schnitzel with red cabbage and something else I don't recall-spaetzel? It also came with cup of soul. I have never been here. Every time I visit Chicago I hit up a German spot, Bergoff, etc. This was the best liver dumpling soup I have had. The Rouladen was delicious and the service was great. Loved the atmosphere too. Chris was our server and she was excellent. My friend had the Hackepeter and he loved that too. And don't mention the beer...yummo. What a fun place! Fun atmosphere and good service. The food was excellent! Good beer selection with ample pours. Also they carry some interesting liquors, including a delicious pear brandy with a full pear inside the bottle. Apparently the bottle is put around a pear bud and the pear grows inside the bottle! Anyway it was a delicious spirit with a really pure pear flavor. We got the sausage plate which was tasty, with really excellent sauerkraut. The meat balls and the potato pancakes were out of this world yummy. I highly recommend. Great outdoor area and a very legit German Feel in there! We didn't go for food, just wanted a real German beer as Oktoberfest fades away! They had 16 beers on tap and a majority were German! Bartender let us try a sip of a couple, and we opted for the Darkest Beer they had; Kostritzer! This is a local gem that we will definitely go back to! Next time, some food and a couple different brews! In the spirit of waiting for Oktoberfest 2012 in Munich, I got the urge to munch on weinerschnitzel. So came here on a Saturday night. The place was packed and full of life. The decor was traditional German pub style and there was an older man singing and playing the accordion. He took requests and people were even dancing to his music. Small painted plates were hung on the wall and there were string lights everywhere. Of course, I ordered my weinerschnitzel and it surprisingly came with a side of brussel sprouts (my favorite!) and mashed potatoes! Mmm such a good meal. Followed by apple strudel and ice cream. I was very full by the time I left. Overall a good meal but a little pricey. My plate cost about $18 minus dessert. All that was missing was my Dirndl. Next time! read more
