Annual October fest dinner with granddaughters to celebrate a birthday. Food was excellent and good sized servings music was great. Stopped in for dinner, decided to eat at the bar. Great ambiance (warm and inviting), and a very friendly bartender (who easily handled both drink and food orders on a busy Friday night). Outstanding selection of authentic Bavarian beers in many sizes. Husband and I each had a liter stein (Spaten and HB, and finished with a Trumer Pils). Sampled one pork and one chicken schnitzel sandwich, which came with soup (navy bean) and coleslaw or hand cut fries (yum). Everything served was very hot and tasty. For what you get, the prices were also reasonable. Wish we lived closer in order to become regulars (the beer can catch up with you, lol). As we were leaving, a German band was setting up (accordion and long horn). Would love to come back during Oktoberfest. Can't recommend Edelweiss enough. Stopped in while in the area. Was early and seated right away. Server was friendly and answered any questions and offered suggestions. Staff was very friendly and attentive. We each started with a beer and it was a great way to kick things off. The food was delicious. We had potato pancakes for an appetizer. I had the jaeger schnitzel and my wife had the sauerbraten. We each had a German red wine with the meal that paired well. Finished it out with Black Forest cake, delightful. Pleasantly surprised! Chose to take a flyer based on reading some reviews. The food felt authentic and had good depth of flavor. Good selection of German/Austrian beers on tap. The live music, well it was the gem of this establishment. The musicians you could tell were passionate about the music and genuinely loved entertaining people. The sound level is just right to enjoy your meal and conversation, but still be a highlight. As some other reviewers mentioned, the service is slightly touch and go, but as long as you understand going in that you may need to hail someone, that portion of the experience is quickly forgotten. Basically accepting the situation. The food once out, was very tasty and plentiful. The soup was very good. My veal dish was filling and very flavorful. It could have been hotter for my liking, but I'm not sure if that was also a server issue or a kitchen item. No way to know. Not cold, but not hot enough either. Started off with their Spaten Oktoberfest, very crisp. The Wisconsin cheese curds were briny, the potato pancakes came with some actual sour sour cream, and the apple sauce added some cool sweetness. Now, not gonna cap, I'm not gonna cap, but this is the best German pretzel I've had, the beer cheese is strong with this one. The pretzel is lightly salted and airy, but it was time for the mains. we had the beef stroganoff, and the sherry cream gravy they make is top tier, I'm talking gold medal stroganoff right here. I got the Wiener schnitzel al Holstein style which means capers, anchovies, and a fried egg. that schnitzel was golden brown, outstanding to say the least. The red cabbage was pickled and had a deep flavor. Anyways, I got this coffee with German brandy, I have to say that I can't stomach that. The Missus and I have been celebrating this 200+-year-old Bavarian tradition with friends here annually. A few years ago, unhappy about changes to the special Oktoberfest menu, we expressed our disappointment to management. I guess others did, too, because the menu was subsequently revamped and is better than ever. Entrée prices include two sides and there is a small upcharge for substituting the (included) soup-of-the-day with another soup or salad. Our meal began with dense, dark German bread and bowls of hearty goulash soup (+$3). A light eater in our party was very pleased with the grilled salmon. The rest of us enjoyed Wienerschnitzel, pounded thin and pan-fried to perfection. Traditional sides of German fried potatoes, boiled potatoes, red cabbage, and cucumber salad were fresh and robust. We boxed up half of our meals to save room for house-made apple bread pudding topped with vanilla ice cream. Hats off to wunderbar service and $2 valet parking. And, hey, it wouldn't be Oktoberfest without live entertainment on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings! We much enjoyed "Alpine Thunder," a fun group of musicians who got the party going with brass, woodwind, percussion, accordion, and vocals. Was there for dinner 2nd time in the past month. First time had their Corned Beef (a special) which tasted like it had been cooked from St. Patrick's Day 2024. The Corned Beef was tough, fatty and disgusting and inedible. The server was training another server and barely paid any attention to his customers. It was difficult to get even an extra drink or glass of water. The Spatzel tasted old and like it had been recooked several times. Gave it another try recently. The result: The Speisbraten also tasted like it had been cooked and recooked several times. It was tough, hard, dry and old. The Spatial was a very small portion, overcooked and dry. The red cabbage was so salty it was inedible. This time another waiter was better and the atmosphere is fun but exceedingly loud, so that you must shout to be heard. We didn't expect such a delightful and wonderful night! It was Octoberfest, so there was live music and festivities which was a plus. The waiters were prompt, polite, and very patient with our questions. They also had some delightful spunk (can't say exactly what they said, but they knew how to read the room). I really like them! We usually eat at Edelweiss for holidays, which are crazy busy, as you can imagine. They are consistently slow with drink orders but the food comes out fairly quickly once you order. The staff are nice but at one of our recent visits, one was selling jewelry that either her friend made or some customer made. It was really awkward! She was literally going table to table asking if the customer's would like to purchase these earrings... I grew up in Norridge in the 70's & 80's. As a second generation German. My family and I frequented your establishment quite often. And it was always enjoyable. The food was fabulous, and traditional. The atmosphere was lovely. The music on the weekends was entertaining and fun. But most recently we visited your establishment, and it changed sadly for the worst. The food was not traditional German cuisine. It tasted processed, and definitely not authentic German cuisine. The atmosphere was still lovely. But the food again was terrible. I was served a beer in a wine glass. What reputable German restaurant would dare serve beer in a wine glass? This is for verboten! Let me add; we gave your restaurant three chances. Three strikes- you are out. It's not that difficult to make traditional German cuisine. It's a shame that there's not enough Germans in the area that know good traditional German food, because they are missing out, and you are deceiving them with American food trying to pass as German. read more

I made reservations for a birthday dinner for my wife, we arrived on time, and we were seated. 22 minutes later, wait staff showed up and informed us that it would be at least an hour before any food would show up since the kitchen was backed up. Pretty much a "go away" statement. The couple next to us were waiting the whole time we were there for their check to be taken up front. I have experience in restaurants, and I understand being short staffed. One of the first things you want to do is make contact with the customer, apologize for the delay, and give them accurate information about the wait. If the back of the house is that understaffed, stop taking reservations or turn away walk ins. read more

Wonderful German food! And good prices too. We just found this place and it's amazing! Fantastic food! I had the 3 pound (!) pork shank which was unbelievable. Tender flavorful meat and melt in your mouth fat with a very good gravy. So much food I took it home and ate it for two more days! My wife had the Rouladen and she also loved it. It's difficult to find this dish, even at other German restaurants. The atmosphere is traditional German. The beer garden looked good, but we went for dinner so didn't try it. They even have a guy that plays the accordion and sings. Very fun, but not obnoxious at all. Just a good time. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Nah.. I totally forgot that I have visited this place few years ago. Sadly I also forgot that I said how I will never visit it again. Place is just of the street with some parking spots and sort of German looking exterior. We were seated right away in almost empty dining area( one couple was already seating there and finishing their lunch) . We were served with water right away. Our drinks arrived almost in few minutes ( Coke and Riesling wine) As we were VERY hungry I decided not to have appetizers bc I will usually stop there . We ordered Edelweiss plate ( 26$) and Sausage mix plate with two sides of your choice. Usually entree come with soup of the day but I wasn't interested in Carrot cream soup so we went with upgrade for extra 5$ per soup. Our choices were goulash soup and liver dumpling soup. You will have no included bread and they will charge you 2,5$ for very mediocre few slices of bread. And this is were our problems begin. We waited almost 35 min for our food. This is first thing that is was unacceptable for me. For us. I decided to wait bc I was expecting it every second. When food finally arrived, it was just too greasy with all those flavors in one plate of Edelweiss order( I believe it is delicious for some people, for me after all that wait was terrible) so I picked small piece that comes with plate of Chicken snitzle and some mashed potatoes and that was it. Chicken was freshly made and it tasted good. With some lemon juice it was ok. My husband ate one of the sausages for sausage plate and it was the best tasting one for us. Kassekrainer sausage will be charged 5$ extra. ( and I didn't know that since I saw that on the check when we arrived home) I didn't order any extra sausage exept Sausage plate. And sides. I have mixed feelings for this place, ladies who worked there are nice but sort of carried away.. a bit slow. Place is clean and nice. Food is fresh that is for shure. Is it tasty, Idk. I enjoy German food. I used to visit Germany very often when I lived in Eu. Is this German food well yes and no.. will I be back?! I can not say hard no, at least for Snitzle bc I think it can be good. Especially like sandwich option or with mashed potatoes and slice of lemon. Maybe for some lunch option price or something.
