I dropped by Edible Flours with my daughter and we used a plant based deals coupon to bring home a few of their baked goods to try. They are an entirely vegan bakery and as I'm always on the lookout for good places to get vegan eats, I was eager to try out this shop. Featured here: Spinach Artichoke Roll Chewy Coconut Cookie Gluten Free Smores Bar Spinach Artichoke Roll looked and sounded better than it tasted. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything to write home about either. Absolutely loved the Chewy Coconut Cookie and Gluten Free Smores Bar! The cookie was soft and chewy as its name suggests, and the Smores Bar was packed with flavor. So wonderful to know that food can be vegan, gluten free and still loaded with yumminess! Service: Good Parking: Free parking on the side streets off Broadway

3.5/5 stars. We ordered the gluten free carrot cake. It was alright, but very sweet. I think we will try another gluten free bakery before coming back here. That being said, it was beautifully decorated! It was easy to order through their website and we picked up a few days later. Service was friendly,

I'm obsessed with this place. The best bakery in all of Vancouver. They are plant base / vegan first and then they can do specialty cakes. They've made keto cakes for us, soy free and I'm about to place a PCOS cake this year. They've always taken such good care of us and everything has been DELICIOUS . This is my happy place

Vanilla Base Cupcake with Raspberry Frosting (Various Flavours Available) - 4.00

I ordered from here via Door Dash. What I love most about Edible Flours is how personal their response to every order seems. It really feels like a friend baking you a yummy sweet for a perfect Friday night in. I decided to sample their cupcakes, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Nanaimo Bar, and S'mores Bar -- the last three all being gluten free with an option of gluten free for cupcakes as well! For the cupcake, I picked a vanilla base with a dainty pink raspberry frosting. Both the base and the frosting are very light and the flavour is more of a subtle sweetness as opposed to the common overpoweringly sweet cupcakes, which made it much more delightful to enjoy. The frosting itself I found quite vibrant both in appearance and in taste, and I really like that it isn't as heavy as other frostings tend to be! The Chocolate Chip Cookie (GF) is my personal favourite. It has the perfect balance of both a crumbly and buttery texture, and melts in your mouth too! Don't buy just one -- you'll want at least two! As for the Nanaimo Bar, a Vancouver classic, they've nailed every layer perfectly. What stands out for me the most is the creamy vanilla middle layer created in the smoothest of textures that balances out the chocolate just perfectly. The dessert as a whole really ties together well, with each layer complementing the next. The S'mores Bar (GF) is the sweetest treat of the four. If you're a lover of chocolate, this one's definitely for you! With a chewy brownie base, a fluffy middle layer, and a fudgy top layer pressed with marshmallows and cookie crumbs, the S'mores Bar offers three irresistible layers of chocolatey goodness that will cure any sugar craving. Pair it with a cold cup of almond milk and you're good to go! Each dessert seems to be made with such love and delicacy, which is what I find makes this bakery so great! I look forward to trying even more vegan treats!

Stopped by for the first time on the weekend and loved it! The cafe is small but really cute. They didn't have the hugest selection of baked goods to choose from, but what they did have looked great. Plus I really appreciate the fact that everything was vegan, plus some gluten free items. I tried the Gluten Free Cinnamon Roll which was so good! Really soft and fresh, and not too sweet. Really impressed. I will definitely be back.

As a vegan I was intrigued by an all vegan bakery... but after trying a few things I can say I have no interest in going back. I contemplated getting them to make me a birthday cake this month but after having another cupcake I decided it would be a very bad idea. I don't need any more sugar headaches or to feel really sick from eating their treats. As a vegan chef myself (who writes recipe books) my goal is to make healthier options that are tasty and still good for you. I can say that everything made here is indulgence indulgence indulgence and they go WAY too heavy on the sugar and earth balance. That frosting is killer! It's so fatty and sugary you have to scrape most of it off or you can't eat the cupcakes. They look gorgeous but it's just overkill, humans are not made to enjoy pure sugar and pure fat, there has to be something else with it or it's just too unappetizing and overwhelming. The banana bread with chocolate chips is pretty good, it was a little too oily still. I like a little applesauce in mine instead for moisture. The cinnamon bun was decent. I can't say it would ever win a Cinnabon fan over, but I doubt any vegan cinnamon bun would. Perhaps a tofutti cream cheese icing would be tastier? I've tried a few cupcakes, the mocha, red velvet, chocolate, and some peanut butter fudge/chocolate one. The red velvet was decent, not too sweet (i think it's made with beets) but more like a light muffin, the peanut butter one did me in. It was just too much of everything I could only eat half of it before I had to put it away, I felt so sick minutes later. I don't think the point of a treat is to give you a headache and make you feel ill, so perhaps they might do some lower sugar, less frosting options for those that can't handle that. They use agave in their recipes instead of sugar believing it is healthier, but just google dangers of agave and you will see that studies show it's JUST AS BAD as high fructose corn syrup with how it is processed (in a very unnatural way) and that it acts just like high fructose corn syrup in the body. I think it has potential but it's just not quite right yet. I've been to some vegan bakeries in Seattle, Portland and Berkley and they were FAR far better. Check out Bouteloua Bakery http://www.yelp.ca/biz/bouteloua-bakery-seattle-2, I accidentally got a gluten free chocolate cupcake and I swear to god it was the best cupcake I'd ever had and you'd never be able to tell it was gluten free. They have better icing too. I don't say these things to be mean, but perhaps to challenge the bakers/owners to tweak some things based on honest feedback, because I love when vegan places are successful. I just think they can do better by not using the lowest common denominator and making everything a sugar and earth balance bomb that you immediately regret. The goods here are also not cheap, quite an expensive treat that you may or may not enjoy. I guess I didn't need such a large sampling as most things are made with too much sugar and fat. I often wonder why restaurants load things up with so much fat because if they were smart, people would eat more (thus buy more and they would make MORE money) if things were a little lower in calories and fat. But when half a cupcake can put you under, why would you buy more than 1 thing from here? The mini cupcakes they sell to Karmavore are a good idea but less frosting would be appreciated! (No doubt things could be cheaper too with less frosting and also make people think it's a better deal and buy more as well.) Size, pricing and richness are very important factors when taking your business from doing ok to very profitable.

I'm no vegan, by choice or by force, and I devour sweet treats like they're going out of style. In my books, baked goods reign supreme. They are untouchable. So to hear of a place that is reimagining the magic formula of egg, butter etc. to taste like the real deal? Intrigued. Skeptical. But curious enough to make my 1st foray into a vegan bakery. Delusions of negative calories aside, I went for the most indulgent item in the case that day. Cookie sandwich ($3.50): - "cookies = fudgy, chocolate brownies studded within an inch of its life w/ meltingly gooey choco chips - filling = uber sweet vegan-ified choco cream. Being mystified by the ingredients was half the taste. - don't let the trappings fool you, this is no lightweight snack. It's downright decadent! My one gripe: The cramped display case makes for rushed decisions. I'd rather not have a faceoff with the cashier the whole time I'm perusing so I can make my choice sans pressure!

Thank you for being open on Canada Day, Edible! Also, thanks for putting that Maple, gluten free cupcake on hold for me. This was my first visit to the shop, and I was taken with the sparse but tasteful decor. The chocolate chip cookie IS the best one I've had, anywhere. The cupcake was so rich, moist and dark chocolatey that I wondered for a minute if I had got a gluten one. The maple frosting was unique and 'creamy' This is the place to order some specialty cakes for sure. Don't forget to empty your bank account fist though. This kind of *opulence don't come cheap! (Nearly 4 bucks for a cupcake? -argh!!)

Unmatchable. Very cute! I love the color and the fruits. I asked to put less sugar. The inside tastes good. But the matcha frosting is too thick and WAY TOO SWEET! Also the matcha frosting doesn't taste like matcha... I really hope the baker could reduce the amount of sugar using in the frosting.

I ordered online on Monday and got my cake on Wednesday. Paul confirms my order through email fast. This is great for someone like me who do not like to talk on the phone. I am surprised when I first saw the cake. It is a subtle beauty cake as I Love the typography, the muted hazelnut colour and the perfectly done flower pattern along its border. This cake is a piece of art. My vegan friend loves the cake, it is a sweet cake. But of course, it's a birthday cake!!! Thank you Edible flours! I will stop by again to check out those decent chocolates.

    Amazing! So freaking good!

Ok ok, what's better than driving to Canada to eat vegan food, I'll tell you .. driving to Canada to eat vegan food while meeting new vegan friends! We decided to meet up at Mila Plant-Based, 100% vegan restaurant in the downtown area sort of right in-between Downtown Eastside, Science World, and Gastown. The restaurant has a lovely, quaint ambiance, feels very welcoming upon entering. The bathroom was .. well, posh! I don't normally make a point to comment on bathroom decor, while average in size, I felt like I was being upgraded to First Class lol. Ok, moving right along .. lol They have two menus, a Weekend Brunch Menu and, for all other hours, a Lunch/Dinner Menu, ..we ordered from the Weekend Brunch Menu. I had the Bibimbap Bowl - rice bowl with Yo Egg, mushroom bacon, kimchi, tempura yam, cucumber, carrot, gochujang sauce. This bowl had many layers of unique flavors all married perfectly in every exquisite bite, I say this very sincerely! My wife ordered the Pina Colada Pancakes - pancakes, toasted coconut syrup, cashews, cocktail cherries, rum-candied pineapple, mint. Each bite easily lived up to the the decadence displayed in the included image. We absolutely have to find our way back to Mila to try their Lunch/Dinner menu as it includes some amazing sounding options such as, Feta Stuffed Date - date, feta, pistachio, olive oil, maldon salt, ABURI LOX OSHI - carrot lox, aburi sauce, shiso, serrano, 6 pieces, Tuna Crispy Rice - watermelon akami tuna, sushi rice, lime kewpie mayo, green onion, sesame seeds, 3 pieces, and much more. We had quite a few options to choose from regarding where to meet for brunch, with every option sounding wonderful in their own way. Ultimately, we decided on Mila because of their unique, fresh and inspiring sounding dishes and yeah, they did not disappoint. Thanks so much for dropping by and reading this review. Do yourself a favor and extend the same courtesy to Mila by ... dropping by .. and enjoying some amazing tasty food.

I had the Freaky Greeky with a yam-cassava crust. I chose that since the menu board boasted it's vitamin and mineral content. Sold!!! It had (what I assume was) Daiya Mozzarella and Cashew style feta, black olives, tomatoes, basil and walnuts. I have to say that the walnuts were the most pleasant surprise of the toppings. An added crunch and some true delicious flavor!! The crust, being GF and the specific ingredients, led it to be quite crunchy, but I love crunchy crusts. I hadn't had lunch but a few hours prior so I had half the pizza at dinner, than half before bed after drinks! Yum!!! My husband had the Samsara Sausage pizza. He said it was just okay. He said the sausage tasted like a Light life Hot Dog. Which is obviously NOT what you're going for with sausage. Our friends shared the Buffalo Buddha pizza and gave hubby their last piece. He said that was quite nice and he'd have had that again. They too had the GF Yam-cassava crust. I'd definitely get this pizza again but I would NOT walk here and preferably be in a group for safety.

The Garden Rolls were absolutely the #1 worst ones we've ever eaten! We've had hundreds of fresh rolls at dozens of places and sadly, none were as tasteless as these. They consisted of noodles, a bit of flavorless tofu and cucumber. Fresh rolls MUST have at least one or more of the following: fresh mint, fresh cilantro or fresh Thai Basil. Hestia's had NONE!. To add insult to injury, the watery sauce also had NO flavor. To add more insult, they were baggy and poorly wrapped and the innards kept falling out. Not fun and definitely not good. The king oyster mushrooms were very good, but there was a ton of pink mayo dousing it. I would have preferred the sauce be in a separate bowl so we could choose how much dipping we'd like to do. The saffron tofu bowl was sensational! Perfectly spiced and full of a huge variety of well-cooked veggies plus the saffron rice was good too. No one came during our meal to ask if we needed anything or to ask how our meal was. The customer service is in need of some work.

In the Bay Area we have Shizen/Tane and which I can safely say are still pretty different from Vegan Shoku. (Both are so good!!). Vegan Shoku uses konjac-based sashimi which allows for sashimi and nigiri that looks like its conventional fish counterparts. Today, we ordered 1. Salmon Eggplant This reminded me of nasu dengaku but with a "salmon salad" (think tuna salad) on top of charred eggplant. There was a miso sauce, the same that's used for nasu dengaku dressing the entire thing. The eggplant was creamy but not oil-laden, and the salmon worked nicely with the eggplant and miso dressing. Every bite was perfection. Each bite was garnished with fried carrot strings and beet. Sooooo good! 2. Shoku Roll We figured we should definitely order this since it's the restaurant's namesake. Since it was topped with mango & a popping boba, it had a hint of sweetness which was refreshing. 3. Dynamite Roll Absolutely gorgeous roll that packed as much flavor as it did color. The sweet, savory, creamy and crunchy.... this roll takes you on a journey and more! 4. Teriyaki Beef Roll Don't ask questions, just order this! It's like a beef donburi in roll form. 5. Salmon Nigiri I've never been a fan of seafood so this was a bit of a risky pick. Sure enough, it was too realistic for me so I had to hand it off to my bf to finish. For those who love and miss the taste of salmon, this is a must try! 6. Takoyaki While this looked like takoyaki, it definitely wasn't. They were still tasty but they were more like meatballs than anything. Takoyaki is supposed to have chunks of octopus (which when I make it at home, I use konyaku), shredded cabbage, ginger in a savory pancake-like batter cooked in a ball-shaped cast iron mold, topped with aonori, mayo and brown sauce. The meatballs were in a brown sauce of some kind and were incredibly robust and meaty. They were too meaty for my liking (some mock meats sort of gross me out!) but that's more of a preference thing and doesn't speak to the quality. It was very flavorful, it just wasn't for me. 7. Matcha Ice cream The ice cream looked like it was slice from a cake! Maybe they peeled back the paper carton of the ice cream and cut a slice from that. It looked super surgical and clean, like art! The flavor was super robust and matcha-y. It was not the typical (disappointing) green-colored ice cream that tasted mostly of vanilla and had hints of match. This was the real deal! What a rare find! It extremely pricey but it more than made up for all the times I've ordered green-colored matcha imposter ice creams, so get this if you are a matcha lover! Being how uncommon these types of restaurants are, the server was super patient in answering my questions and was helpful in making suggestions too. If I find myself in BC in the future, you can bet I'll be making another stop in here to try other items on their menu. This was such a treat!!

I think there was a bit too much rice used in the sushi. Smaller amounts of rice would have been preferred. Also, we found that the Salmon Avocado Oshi tasted just like the Tuna Avocado Oshi. Either that, or they gave us two identical sushi orders by mistake instead of 1 Salmon Avocado Oshi and 1 Tuna Avocado Oshi. I was kinda bummed that they didn't have their vegan spam that day. Hoping to go back some other day and try it. If it weren't for the vegan spam though, I probably wouldn't bother coming back to this restaurant again. Pains me to say that as I'm usually a huge supporter of plant based restaurants but...this restaurant was really just OK for me. Not horrible, but aside from wanting to try their vegan spam...the food just wasn't good enough for me to want to come back again.

The venue is nice and big and airy, with the 2 walls of solid windows. Great for people watching. The place is definitely modern and hipster looking. Maybe because it was a slow day, but staff were a bit lacking. Buddy and I walked in there and the place was empty. We looked around for a few minutes and literally nobody showed up. It was only after we had left and taken a few steps before someone suddenly appeared and motioned for us to come back inside. Although my buddy insisted the place sold burgers, something looked off. I also noticed the sign advertising "fysh tacos". The menu also listed a "chick'un burger". Confirmed with the waitress that the place is indeed 100% vegan. Oops. Oh well, we're here. Might as well give them a try. The chick'un burger is actually a slice of mushroom that has been battered and fried like fried chicken. Not sure if this is supposed to be the case, but the mushroom itself was actually quite bitter. Fortunately the batter masked the taste. The fries are pretty decent here. I also tried the Crispy BBQ burger. This thing tastes more like the run of the mill vegan patties out there in supermarkets. I think it was soy/tofu based. Interestling enough, the burgers actually have a Beyond upgrade for an additional fee, so I imagine the standard burger patties are made in house. I guess the place is worth checking out if one is vegan, but for those who aren't, there unfortunately isn't much for us here. I did hear the coffee here is pretty decent though. Maybe I'll give it a try next time.

Unfortunately, the menu doesn't have side dishes, so I ended up ordering the lemongrass vermicelli along with a guava juice instead. It turned out to be the same bottled guava juice you can easily find at the grocery store, just served in a glass and at restaurant prices. Then my lemongrass vermicelli arrived, and the server warned me to be careful because it was very hot. That definitely caught me off guard! When I think of vermicelli bowls, I picture cool noodles, crisp vegetables, fragrant herbs, and a refreshing meal perfect for a sunny day. This version was served piping hot, making it feel more comforting than refreshing. That said, the dish was still packed with flavour. The fragrant lemongrass aroma filled the bowl, the vegetables added plenty of texture, and the savoury components came together nicely. It just wasn't the light, cooling meal I had originally set my heart on when I walked in, dreaming about mango salad on a warm day.
