I have only had one lunch experience to share so far, but would love to get back for dinner some time. I sat at the bar since it was late and a few others joined while I was there. The Edison grilled cheese called my name. They usually make these up fresh everyday with the truffle bread, so I wasn't sure if they could make an exception for me. I was in luck. They were very friendly and accommodating to my needs and used buttered bread instead. It was delicious. Everyone else really seemed to enjoy their meals as well. The restaurant looks small from the outside, but is actually very spacious once inside. They have a small grassy, rock parking lot...just drive slow and be careful. I believe the location may do them a dis-service because they only really attract locals. Not that I think that is a bad thing, but how many times can James Island locals eat/drink here? The island is not that big! It's really easy to get to being on Fort Johnson Road next to the High School, but if you're not familiar with the area or have not heard of this place by word-of-mouth, you might not find them. They also have an assortment of beers, along with wine and liquor, but it was a work day for me so I had to pass on the alcohol. Happy hour would be fun. The atmosphere is a little trendy but very inviting. Servers, chefs, and management were attentive and went out of their way to check on me and the other patrons. I will be back! read more

Valentines Day exclusive update revisited this restaurant because it was so good and once again they did not disappoint. This time it was four course meal I will go though each course and give my honest opinion as always . First course lobster bisque and chilled Yuzo oysters their are two of the items because my husband ordered as well so my lobster bisque was a more different rendition than I am accustomed to it was not bad it just did not have enough whipping cream and cherry and white wine however the details of the plate was the same. My husband appetizer Chilled Yuzo he loved especially the salmon style caviar now he stated the flavors in his appetizer was amazing. Course 2 which was the Edison Caesar and bresaola carpaccio the Cesar was light and with just the right amount of dressing and I loved the fresh bread topping that was very unique and on point my husband salad was unique in flavor with the dressing bringing all the vegetables together perfectly. Course 3 Duck ravioli this was so good excellent texture flavor and just splendid my husband had lobster and shrimp polenta this dish was almost like a shrimp and grit but with so much flavor and seafood my husband enjoyed it and I did also. The final corse which is four the dessert we both had the same dessert and it was the chocolate espresso cheesecake it was simply an amazing dessert my husband loved it i devoured my dessert everything was excellent another great chop chief and I will be back soon. read more

I love Edison soo much! I feel so lucky to have this gem of a place so close to my home, especially on little James Island in this neighborhood area. I have dined here at least 6 times and every time has been so delicious and delightful. This place is quaint but not small, which I love. It's the perfect spot for a week night dinner when you just wanna sit low key and enjoy a friend or two, the bar and bartender are nice if you're alone, or their patio is great in the evenings with their string lights adding nice atmosphere! I've had their blue Bibb salad, charcuterie board, chucktown chicken sandwich, seafood chowder, desserts, tandoori chicken skewers...all are always outstanding and the freshness and quality is there!! The owner is (one of?) the chefs...maybe there are multiple, but regardless he's such a nice guy with a cool story and clearly a love for what he does and the community he serves. An inventor themed restaurant? Who knew that was a thing? Yes they have Edison bulbs throughout, but other Edison items are all over the walls as well. Oh... and they have food and drinks too. Dinner was awesome. I had the Chucktown Chicken sandwich and it was more than enough to fill me up. The gnocchi was very well done (yes I had a fork load or two of that as well) and overall the food was excellent. Josh our server (who did a great job) picked our dessert for us since we were splitting it anyway and came out with a Chocolate Bulb that was... amazing! If you're there I cannot recommend that thing enough. Price for two entrees, a drink a piece and dessert came out to around $70 at dinner. I will be back to try their brunch. Service was a little slow and there is no hard alcohol bc they are so close to a high school but the food was delicious (and huge plates you could probably share!) We ordered the chicken and waffles. The waffles were sweet and almost like a cake batter and the chicken was crispy and juicy. It's served with .l potatoes that were crispy on the outside and soft on the insides We also got the pork cheeks which was sooo good! The pork was cooked perfectly with great flavors. I enjoyed the cozy and casual atmosphere of this place. They don't serve liquor but have a nice selection of wine and beer. We opted for a bottle of Cab that paired nicely with the braised short ribs. I enjoyed the short ribs but wasn't crazy about the stone ground grits they were served over. The barbecue sauce was also a little overpowering. I would've preferred a mashed root vegetable. The meet and cheese tray with crostini was nice. We also had the fromage and figs which was fantastic. We have dined at Edison on multiple occasions and have always enjoyed the food and service here. This was the first time I have eaten here since Covid hit, and they had all of the tables nice and spread out. Wednesday and Sunday are half price bottles of wine- so we got to enjoy a nice bottle of Chardonnay for under $20. We also ordered a plethora of items- and even with gratuity added in, our meal for 2 was under $100! We couldn't believe it. We have been places and ordered just as much and spent close to $300. It was an amazing deal! Not only is the pricing reasonable, the food is great. I especially loved the seafood chowder and fromage and fig-- while my boyfriend loved the pho tacos. The burger was a little dry (needs some sauce, especially since it has a big pretzel bun on it), but the flavors were still good. Our server was very nice and seemed to be handling a busy restaurant very well. I highly recommend checking out Edison, especially if you live on James Island. We've been coming here for years! Great customer service and delicious food! It's one of our favorite date spots.

Absolutely incredible experience! Upon pulling into the Edison parking lot, there's a quaint, friendly, family oriented feel to the place, and this is all before walking in. Upon entering, a pleasant smell of wood is in the air. Everything is well lit for viewing menus, etc. but appropriately dimmed to create a casual but elegant atmosphere. The decor is beautifully done and pulls off a modern, old-timey feel. We were asked where we would like to be seated and were immediately brought waters. The music was the perfect volume, contributing to the modern atmosphere but allowing even the most silent conversation. Our waitress was very attentive and excellent. I ordered an IPA and my fiancé ordered a Chardonnay. They even asked if I would like to hold on to the IPA can to read it, which I love doing but wouldn't have thought of otherwise! We ordered the tandoori chicken skewers as an appetizer and they were perfectly cooked, and paired well with pita and cool tzatziki sauce. I ordered the togarashi tuna, which is flown in from Hawaii. It was seared rare and melt in your mouth amazing. My fiancé ordered the shrimp cavatelli, which was such an incredible blend of flavors. The pasta was cooked very well, and the sauce was a beautifully smooth sun-dried tomato butter. I really appreciated the fact that you could go there for a quick bite in causal clothing and not pay an exuberant amount of money if you weren't looking for a formal date night. They also offer an array of sandwiches and salads. The dinner menu is extremely reasonable price wise for any upscale restaurant in the Charleston area. I'd say the entire menu average price comes in around $15. They also do events so if anyone is looking for a place to host a birthday, wedding, or baby shower party, this would be an amazing place to do so! They are also about to open the outside patio for the fall. Overall, we had a wonderful date night at Edison James Island and will be returning very soon! Edison is just down the street and been wanting to try. Went early but just missed happy hour. Glad we got there early because it filled up fast. I would have rated higher but here are my 2 'coaching' items: 1. Provide more light. The lights kept getting dimmer and dimmer. Maybe our corner was low light, but it was dark! 2. Check your rice! My jasmine rice was barely room temp and either under done or old or both. Outside of these items Edison is great and we will be back. Curry meatballs flavor was on point (rice was eehhhh), pho tacos great, and soup was wonderful. Lots of homemade thought and effort in these dishes. Will return! read more

Sorry it took soooo long for me to post what was a fabulous dining experience at Edison Restaurant on James Island last weekend!! We went for a birthday celebration, a party of 7 and we left with all of our palates very pleased!! We all ordered different appetizers and were all extremely happy with them, from the Vietnamese pho tacos to the Fromage and Fig!! The entrees ran the gamut as well. We had Chicken and Waffles, Moroccan Salmon Salad, Shrimp Cavatelli, Blackstrap Braised Beef Short Ribs and Sweet Corn and Crab Gnocchi!! Everyone absolutely loved each dish, no complaints whatsoever!! We were too full for dessert, but you cannot celebrate a birthday without a candle and something sweet. I always pass by this cute little gem of a restaurant and finally my heart was screaming GO. So I grabbed a friend and we drove that mile from the house to try it out. The inside is beautifully designed and is very open. We both started with a salad , I had the Edison Baby Green Salad and she had the Truffle Pear salad. Both were very flavorful. For the main course we decided to split two different entrees. I had the Bacon Wrapped Quail Breasts with Wild Rice, Sweet Potatoes, Shaved Brussels with Apple Butter sauce while my friend ordered the bistro steak with sautéed carrots, purple potatoes with a blue cheese butter. We were staying at Folly Beach for the week and someone suggested a couple restaurants and we chose the Edison on James Island...and sure glad we did! We made an 8pm reservation on Resy and when we arrived we were immediately greeted and taken to our table that had a RESERVE sign on it. Our drink orders were taken and they were brought quickly along with our water. We ordered a salad for an appetizer and it was a decent size and fresh. I ordered the swordfish dinner and it was really good. My husband ordered the shrimp dish and he said it was good but felt it could've used a little more spice to it. We were full but I couldn't refuse the chocolate and caramel ball for dessert. Service was really good as well as the food. I would give it 4.9 stars and would recommend going there. read more

We're on James Island, folks, not Manhattan Island. But the food was delicious as I said, and the chocolate "bulb" for dessert was my boyfriend's favorite thing ever. The peach blueberry crisp wasn't as successful for me; when asked, I mentioned to the server I thought the topping wasn't cooked through. She told me it was granola. Mm, no... Again the flavor was fine (cinnamon, nutmeg, butter) but the crunch wasn't present and it was like eating hot, flavorful, slightly runny, half-cooked gritty oatmeal over peach slices, blueberries topped with vanilla ice cream! Really a lovely surprise. Looking for a place close to the event we were at and stumbled on this gem. Did not have a reservation but sat at the bar and ate. Only beer and wine but a decent list. The food however was amazing. We had the Vietnamese pho tacos which were flavorful and fun. The fig and goat cheese my friends were almost licking the plate. Short ribs were tender and tasty. And we all were blown away by the scallops and grits. Not a fan of scallops usually but cooked perfectly the grits creamy a perfect combination. I am also suspicious when restaurants are all over the place Asian southern Italian. But this definitely works. Friendly service and simple but sophisticated dinning room.
