Loved, loved, loved my experience at Edward Boye's salon! I live in San Francisco (via NYC) and I have had a hell of a time finding a good hairstylist up in the Bay Area. Most people don't know what to do with curly hair, unfortunately. Anyways, while visiting my boyfriend in LA, I decided to do a little research on Keratin/Brazilian Blowouts, as I wanted to find a way to make my mane less frizzy and more manageable. I checked out some salons on yelp and found Edwards. He is kind, friendly, affordable, and is vey knowledgeable about hair! I love the Brazilian Blowout treatment I received, along with the fantastic haircut (and great conversation). Looks like I found my new hairstylist, as I will definitely be flying down here to get my hair done by Edward (and to visit my boyfriend). read more

Eh I wish I could leave a good review.. I have wavy medium length hair and because I spent a lot of time in the sun over the course of years, my hair got damaged and I had about 30 people around me convincing me to get a Brazilian Blowout that would not only straighten, but smooth my hair out. Well when I googled Brazilian blowout in my area, this place popped up in first few on top, offering only $150 for the entire thing. I was very excited thinking I scored a deal since other salons charge $350 and up, I made and appointment and had my treatment done by the salon owner himself. He charged me extra $20 because of the thickness of my hair. Well, i can care less about the tiny hole in the wall disco blue white sparkly salon, all i cared about was my hair. It looked amazing once the treatment and hot iron was completed. He told me I could use any shampoo as long as it doesn't contain sulfate and sodium. When I asked him why does he charge less than other places, he just responded that the product itself is not expensive and it's ridiculous to charge twice as much for the physical labor. He told me that because of my hair texture and waves, my hair will not be straight but it was have a smoother and silkier wave and it will literally take me 15 minutes to straighten my hair.(I should have left right THERE!) Well...after the very first wash...i decided to leave it without ironing, just blowdrying and I swear I did not see ANY difference on my hair than I had before the "treatment". My hair was frizzy not mentioning the fact that when washing I felt like I am washing a broom not hair...Its so disappointing. I washed my hair the second time 2 days ago and decided to flat iron it and time to see if it really takes me 15 minutes... NOPE! I struggled with blowdrying my hair section by section for an hour then ironing section by section for another iron and it looks EXACTLY like it did before: frizzed, damages and unmanageable.. I even the guy $30 in tip... What a waste of money and such a dissappointment. I am 100% convinced that he gave me a keratin treatment instead of Brazilian because I have friends who have nasty curly (not wavy like mine) and crazy frizzy hair who got a BB at a legit salon for the price of $450 but they are going on their 3rd month with STRAIGHT, SILKY and SMOOTH hair unlike me :( I am so disappointed for wasting my money that I am thinking to just use regular shampoo to wash whatever he put on my hair away asap and maybe go to a real salon, pocket out more cash but get the REAL job done. I had a Wonderful experience. Edward greeted me at the door with a nice smile. Great customer service. He did my hair amazing!!! I asked for blond highlights all through my hair and Its still SUPER SOFT and SHINY and not damaged. It's like HOLLYWOOD HAIR! ;) I got the brazilian blow out as well and it still looks great. I had a great holiday season with my new hair and I'm still So excited about my hair. I'm only going to him from now on. Yep, it's bad! I actually went there 3 years ago (I didn't have a yelp profile then). Now I can actually express how unhappy I was with my experience. My hair was completely damaged, literally! My story is similar to the other bad reviews. I googled "Brazilian Blowout" and 'Edward Boye' popped first. I liked the price and I thought "hey it's in Beverly Hills!" WRONG! As soon as I walked in it certainly did not looked as I expected! Upon my arrival the staff didn't greet me . Edward himself was at the desk and asked me if I I had an appointment which I did. I waited nearly 40 minutes (why did I make an appointment?). The staff looked tired and the guy who did my hair mentioned he was starving, he said I was his 4th brazilian that day (they are about 2 hrs long). As he was doing my hair I naturally asked several questions as this was my very first blowout. Everything sounded very convincing. Sadly, It didn't turn out good, I wish it were different. After the very first wash my hair looked exactly the same... frizzy damaged and unmanageable not mentioning the fact that when washing my hair it felt like I had tons of hair spray... no conditioner would soften it. What was even more disappointing is that I had never EVER suffered from dandruff, after this blowout I had huge flakes literally after I would wash it. It took me nearly two years to grow out all the burned hair. Horrible! Horrible! experience. read more

It's a little salon run by the owner. No frills kinda place. He's super sweet and takes great care. I've had my color and Brazilian done by him many times. He's really inexpensive and he does a great job! There's a lot of salons in this town that might have more ambiance, but I'd rather not pay $500.00 for color and Brazilian. read more

I went to Edward Boye for the first time and I'm such a fan! The salon, which is tucked in between some business on Robertson, isn't super fancy but Edward, himself, is short of AMAZING. I showed him a hair color that I wanted (just a pic from magazine) and he went to work in a professional manner. My hair came out exactly like the picture!! Then he gave me a great trim and the Brazilian treatment, which literally made my hair silky smooth. I've never looked better and one of my friends gushed "there's a God!!" when she saw my hair lol. I went last weekend to Edward Boye on Robertson after being referred by a friend. He did overall highlights and a Brazilian blowout. There is plenty of parking on the street and most important for me is that Edward is very flexible with his hours - if you want to come in the evening or on a Sunday he will make it work (great since I work full time). Edward is the only person at the shop and you will get his full attention. My color has never looked better - and the Brazilian process was the most reasonable in town. He transformed my curly, frizzy hair into a style that is soft, healthy and easy to manage. Edward has been doing this a long time and explained how he was going to color correct some of the brassy color I had and I was so happy with the results - even happier since multiple people at work and in my neighborhood have noticed and complimented my hair. read more

Edward did an amazing job color correcting my (naturally dark brown) blonde hair to a perfect blonde using all foils. He has great energy and really cares about his work. His prices are affordable and I would highly recommend him. I found him through his blog after having a bad experience with another hairdresser who broke off chunks of my hair because of careless overlapping of highlights. I found their discount Brazilian online and decided to give it a try. My previous Brazilian, which I LOVED, was nearing 4 months old. First, this address may be in Beverly Hills, but this salon is a hot mess- paint chipping, industrial cleaning supplies left everywhere, mis matched everything, gross bathroom complete with hanging string to turn on the light. I was not given a Brazilian, but a Global Keratin, his assistant (who did it) told me it will last for 3-5 months, much longer than the Brazilian. It has been 6 weeks and it is as if I had ZERO done to my hair. Waves back, not to mention it burned my scalp the whole week after. This is bait and switch and a total waste of money at a tacky, gross, mess of a salon. read more

I had my first Brazilian done by Daniel, who did a fine job--my hair was damaged and is wavy and frizzy and it came out like liquid silk--at least initially. I went somewhere else for my second BB and it was awful; it was like an assembly line and they damaged my hair. I went back and Edward did my third; he took his time and did a great job. The salon could use a facelift and perhaps a deep cleaning, but I would definitely go back to Edward (Daniel is no longer there). read more

Edward is simply a GEM of a hairdresser and the BEST I have had since living in LA ( 20 years). I have been coming to him for 4 years and he is remarkable in his skills, consistent in his work( I get Keratin treatment, color, cuts and blo drys). He goes over and beyond to accommodate his clients and is flexible with his times ( get this, he works on Sundays!!!) I just moved to LA from the east coast and was in dire need of and haircut and color. Edward was so wonderful -- he is truly passionate about hair and it shows. My hair is not easy to do, as it is very long (waist-length), and many stylists in the past have been overwhelmed with it -- not knowing how to layer it without making it look choppy and not being able to deal with the color and highlights without making a mess. Edward handled all with confidence and ease. He even has movies you can watch on a nice tv in the salon. The one-on-one service was so much more relaxing than the usual salon noise and chemical smells. Also, his prices are so reasonable that I felt guilty for paying so little that I tipped him extra. Okay folks there are hundreds of salons in Los Angeles, and I have no reason to arbitrarly smear this business. If you want to give him a try because of the cheap price be prepare to get ripped off! Here's the story: When my stylist moved out of state unexpectedly I had to find someone to refresh my Brazilian Blowout. I call my self saving money and decided to give Edward Boye Salon a try because of the cheap price. Okay a $180 dollar mistake (plus tip). Because I am extremely familiar with how my hair feels with a proper Brazilian Blowout treatment I knew before I left the salon that day that I had a problem. So I decided to give Edward a call to voice my concern. Since his assistant had done my Blowout I called Edward the following day to suggest that he have a look at my hair, but he refused. He turned into a completely different person than he had been the day before. I cannot express how nasty and disrespectful this man treated me within seconds of hearing my concern. He said that he was busy and that it had been done properly so he didn't want to see it...and that's the watered down version. I was shocked! He was so utterly unprofessional when I called that I was inclined to think that he must be on some sort of "mood altering substance"...if you know what I mean...which honesty was also questionable upon first meeeting him. I called back a week later to try again and he told me "I'm not in a good mood right now and will not be able to talk to you in a professional way so call back another day". Due to the fact that my Brazilian didn't even last a month, and the product looked and smelled different than it had when my previous stylist did it, I question if they really use Brazilian Blowout products. I had to have my Brazilian re done 3 weeks later by another stylist who confirmed that there was no way that a Brazilian done properly should look this way in less than a month as the Keratin stays on the hair for about 12 weeks. Okay...my other treatments never lasted 12 weeks but they lasted at least 9. I needed my brazilian to be re done within 2 weeks of leaving Edward Boye's salon! Don't give your money to Edward Boye...he doesn't care about his customers! read more

I've been going to Edward now for about a year. I have to say these comments I read on here are absolutely rediculous. This man is nothing but wonderful. Very accomodating, sweet, clear with what he's going to do before he does it and he has my utmost trust. I get blonde highlights, cuts and have had a brazilian blowout done by him as well. I was extremely happy every single time. I also take my teenage daughter to him because he is literally the only one I trust to put color into her hair. She wanted some highlights put in and I was reluctant, but he did a fabulous job and was wonderful with her as well. So if anyone has something bad to say about this man, please know that I have been nothing but very happy with his work, his gentle demeanor and eagerness to please. I went to get the Brazilian Blowout treatment done there back in August and I had a HORRIBLE experience! I have really thick curly frizzy hair, and every year or so I go for a straight perm. I heard about the Brazilian Blowout and did some research, and found Edward Boye's website advertising it for $150. I was impressed by the price and of course by all the convincing, dramatic before-and-after pictures they had on there. I went to try it out and I wish I hadn't. I felt worse about myself walking out of the salon than i did walking in. My hair was done by someone called Daniel and he was the worst hair stylist that has ever touched my hair. After washing my hair and putting the treatment on, he combed it out into a HUGE frizz ball. He did not know how to use a flat iron and pulled so much of my hair out! It really was the worst, most painful, and most humiliating salon experience i've EVER had! What was even more insulting, was that Edward kept trying to convince me that his stylist did the job just right and that the problem was with my hair. He kept trying to convince me that my hair would be SO MUCH better after I washed it at home. But after I went home, I spent another hour flat-ironing my hair; and after washing my hair, it was not any straighter than before. I was so angry and wanted to yell like crazy, but I was so disgusted by them that I just wanted to get the hell out of that salon. Out of courtesy, and out of really feeling sorry for the inexperienced hair stylist, I just paid the $150 and tipped Daniel $15. It was the biggest waste of money I'd ever spent at a salon. If you have really curly hair, I really don't recommend going there, because I really don't think the stylists there are experienced with all hair types. read more

I have very curly hair and I went here last year to correct a color error. I was referred here by a woman whose hair was also naturally curly and looked amazing in color and cut. I was quite happy with the immediate and long term results of the color and color correction/highlights. My hair looked great in the professional photos that were being taken that night, and it grew out gracefully and without constant salon maintenance. I received constant compliments. At the time, the owner said he was planning a move, so just now I jumped on Yelp to find him. I am surprised and disappointed to see the bad reviews as the service was pleasant and top notch. The old diggs were definitely in transition, discoey, and not a draw, but that is not a factor for me. Edward knew exactly what to do with my extremely curly hair where other stylists try to learn from me rather than giving me tips. Bravo! I plan to go again as soon as my schedule permits. read more
