Over time, it traps dust, food particles, grease from the air, moisture, and bacteria. If it is not regularly deep cleaned or replaced, that buildup starts to break down and creates a heavy, musty odor. It does not stay contained in the carpet either, it rises into the air and essentially fills the entire space. The smell is so strong that it takes away from what would otherwise be a really good dining experience. Updating or properly maintaining the carpet would make an immediate and noticeable difference.
