I'm so happy we have a dumpling house/dim sum in Chico. It's something I've wished we had for SO long, after growing up near San Francisco and eating dim sum somewhat regularly. I'll start with this- comparing it to SF/authentic dim sum wouldn't be fair, but it was better than I would expect a dumpling house to be for this area. We tried a bunch of different things. Soup dumplings, potstickers, chive pancake, pork buns, and more! Everything came out hot and fast! There weren't many other people there (several more arrived after us), so it was nice that it came out fast since we had a toddler in tow (IYKYK). I did feel like a few dishes didn't have much flavor, like the potstickers and the shrimp/chive dumplings, but everything else was tasty, hot, fresh, and as expected. I saw several people making dumplings behind the glass counter and that was fun to watch! I would definitely come back again and look forward to trying other dishes as well! read more

I wanted to go for Asian food tonight with my girlfriend and her choice was the Fortune Dumpling House. The food was great. First time trying dim sum in Chico and I was not disappointed. Garlic green beans had a lot of flavor to them. We tried this place for the first time for lunch and were extremely impressed. My friend had never had soup dumplings before and was excited to try them. She ordered them and was not disappointed. They were flavorful and delicious. We also ordered taro pancakes, and green onion pancakes which were absolutely wonderful. The assorted dipping sauces that came with them were incredible. I ordered the mini Loco Moco, which was just as good as any of the many ones that I have ordered and eaten in Hawaii. The mini size was perfect, I cannot imagine how full I would have been with the full order. The staff was incredibly nice, attentive, and friendly. Not pictured but we got the Passionfruit Boba tea (ask for half sweetness) and it was sooooo good 9/10 genuinely very unexpected level of quality Appetizers - Shumai (it's pictured but I'll be honest, I looked away and it was as gone, forgot to ask how we felt about it LOL) - Beef Pancake Roll 7.8/10, get this, this is probably their best appetizer, I'd come back just for this honestly - Wontons in Chili Oil 7.3/10, honestly, if it didn't have excessive amounts of the chili on top (it threw the texture a bit off) tasted pretty good outside of that though Main - Beef Hotpot, Mild, spicy bone soup, yam noodles 8.2/10, I'm going to be so real, if this item was available in any big city, it would be packed. Really good portions for ~$25. Can easily feed 3. They were generous with the ingredients, beef was fresh, I want to say it was brisket but cannot confirm. Broth was really good, and it kept warm from the flame on the bottom. Hmmm .. I've been wanting to try this place for a while now because of the soup dumplings and hot pot.. and we've been told by so many people that this place was: "soo good, you have to try it"... but after careful consideration, I think this place is just : meh. It's just okay. The soup dumplings: 6.5/10.. when they brought it out, we left it on the table for couple minutes before trying it and the soup on the inside wasn't hot, but the flavor was there. ($~16 for 6 pieces) Beef hot pot: 4/10 .. you have an option to pick your level of spicy (I choose extra spicy) , the type of broth (I asked for the spicy broth, but when I got the receipt, they gave me the Japanese style broth), and the type of noodles (I choose the yam). For $25 , definitely not worth it. There was no flavor, no spicy and it doesn't come with a side of rice (which it should because for $25?!). They did give a lot of beef, which is a plus.. but it lacked a lot of flavor. Hawaiian bbq: 4/10 ... they gave very little portions of meat (1 piece of rib, couple pieces of chicken and couple slices of beef) and the macaroni salad... lacked flavor. (~$16) The server was nice.. somewhat attentive but overall she did great. When you walk in, the restaurant gave you like a SF Chinatown vibe, which was very cute. They have lanterns hanging, a big island in the middle and smaller tables surrounding the restaurant. It s pretty spacious. They also have a karaoke set up, so I'm sure anyone can go and sing if you wanted to. They also have a huge glass window where you can watch them making fresh dumplings. Overall - it was meh.. we left pretty disappointed but both agreed the soup dumpling was the best out of the three. if we go back, we'd probably focus more on the dumplings / dimsum because that's the only item that had flavor. They also have beef noodles etc, which looks good in the pictures, but reading through the reviews on Yelp, couple people have expressed there is a lack of flavor as well. Total came out to ~$60 for 3 items +$10 tip, so overall $70, so it's pricy. Which sucks because this is the one thing I've noticed about moving to Chico, when these special "niche" restaurants open, they hike up the price of their food for mediocre flavor... and people will pay because these places are "rare" to see in such a small town. These restaurants take advantage of that and mark everything up and make it 5X more expensive than it should be.. ~$16 for 6 pieces on soup dumpling (~$4 per piece)... ~$16 for couple pieces of Hawaiian bbq meat ... $25 for hot pot.. yea... not worth it. Would only recommend to go to check it out and see the inside, I think that's was the best experience, the design/ decoration. read more

I hate to leave bad reviews but this place was so disappointing, my husband and I couldn't stop talking about it all night. We tried several items that were already pretty pricey, but hey, we were super excited to try this place for a few months now! First off, we visited at 5:30 on a Saturday night and they were already out of three dishes and two drinks. We ended up trying the Thai milk tea, the spicy crispy chicken, the beef dumplings, the bbq pork buns, the wontons in hot chili oil, and the chicken salad. The chicken and salad were big portions but we spent about $100 total. The only thing that we thought were okay were the bbq pork buns, but they could have used more filling. My husband ate a few of the spicy chili wontons and the crispy chicken, but I personally thought the chicken tasted bad. Old oil maybe? The salad and the beef dumplings were really bad. The dressing in the salad was unexpected and just not good. The beef dumplings were bland and also tasted old. Can't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Our go to has become the Kalua Pork with cabbage plate, two Lo Mai Gai, and two chicken katsu musubi. We also really dig their hamburgers and fries, simple but so good! Went here on a weekday and they still have the soft opening sign up which is fine. They have decorated the place really well and it doesn't look like panighettis anymore. Never had dim sum with Hawaiian before but mostly stuck to dim sum. Got the green onion pancakes which were thin, crispy and good. The pork soup dumplings help up nicely and had a good amount of soup. I appreciated that they weren't screaming burn your face off hot. Also got the shrimp dumplings which tasted pretty fresh and yummy. My kid got the burger and they surprisingly had beer batter fries that were really good! So plus on that. The server was super friendly and nice. Very attentive and patient but we were one of two tables at the end of the night. All in all this is a great addition to Chico as we are lacking decent Chinese food and dim sum. Not the best I've had but good for Chico. They have great service and really delicious food. There prices are below most restaurants in town for the amount of food we order. My bills usually average 10.00 dollars a meal or less. Been wanting to try this place for awhile. The decor is super cute, the staff are very friendly and the menu is pretty diverse. Not picture but we also had the chicken dumplings & pork with leek. Definitely on the pricier side for dumplings but justifiable given they are homemade, there have been high rising costs of food and they likely have a high rental cost being one of the larger restaurants in Chico. For 7 dishes it came out to $96 + tip and we were stuffed. All the dumplings were good, but the chili oil and the sticky rice didn't have much flavor. Intially, I was excited that Chico finally has a spot that offered a few dim sum items, as I'm always craving it when I visit out here to see my boyfriend yet the closest place that offers dim sum would be Sacramento. However, I was greatly disappointed with my food. I grew up eating dim sum all my life and I'm from the Bay Area-East Bay where food options are better; I shouldn't have expected much from Chico. My boyfriend ordered take out and picked it up for me--not sure if the quality was poor since he is non asian and think they can get away with it which is not right--I ordered pork soup dumpling and the shrimp dumpling. That should of been a red flag that they did not list it under their chinese names: xiao long bao (pork soup dumpling) and har gow (shrimp dumpling)--giving it americanized diction--catering to people who don't know anything about cantonese cuisine or lack of wanting to educate others on the actual dishes name. First, they only gave me 6 pork soup dumplings, but looking on the photos on yelp people posted pictures of receiving 7. I was very sad I got shorted one dumpling as soup dumplings are my favorite. Second, they did not provide any vinegar sauce which is traditionally served with the soup dumplings. Made it less tasty as the meat in the dumplings are so bland. Third, the shrimp dumplings were so small!! Half the size of other restaurants elsewhere. It reminded me of the har gow you buy at the 99 Ranch Market's frozen food aisle...which made the food even less tasty and less trustful of it being freshly made. I attached a photo of them, which only takes up half of those small to go containers. Lastly, the dishes were expensive. Few dollars more than usual dim sum spots. I did not get full. The food was okay. I was not satisfied. All the good reviews must be from people who have rarely had dim sum as they don't even offer it elsewhere in Chico. read more

Also to note we noticed that the custom hot pot you have to order up to $20 worth of toppings. I go here once to twice a week. The staff is extremely friendly. One of the women that work there, I truly wish I could remember her name, is one of the kindest people I've ever met in food service. She was so patient with me with a ton of questions I had. I'm allergic to dairy, and she went back to the kitchen to verify there was no dairy in the things I was ordering. The food is excellent. I only order vegetarian items, and they are flavorful. They have a ton of vegetarian options, which is very unique in Chico. They are always quick to get everything together, I only use takeout and the longest they've been is 25ish minutes. I order a lot, so that's impressive. I think the inside ambiance is fun and unique. I have never sat to eat there though, so I don't have a lot of insight on it. Chico was lacking a good dumpling place, with a large menu and generous portions. Brand new restaurant next to Nash's on Esplanade and 8th Ave. Soft opening, so some hurdles expected. The restaurant had plenty of tables, and pleasant decor. As mentioned in other reviews, service is slow as there were only two servers for nearly 10 tables, where everyone was ordering multiple items. We got our first 3 items in 25 min. However the next two took more than 45 min. This may be an issue if the management does not get more experienced servers, as its more of dimsum like items. Other similar Asian restaurants in the Central Valley, both North and South, are much faster. The food itself was good esp for Chico where there is a lack of authentic Chinese food.
