Cramped & uncomfortable waiting & dining areas, unpleasant noisy ambience, and VERY strictly enforced, unfriendly policies. We visited Eggs & Things Waikiki for my birthday on August 22, 2013. When we arrived at 8:30 AM, the hostess quoted us a 30-40 minute wait time, and I wasn't about to waste away any part of my beautiful birthday in paradise sitting in their over cramped waiting area, so we took a leisurely stroll to Starbucks where I got myself a delicious Venti Frappuccino to celebrate my bday. Upon returning, we waited about 20 more minutes only to be called upstairs and then they REFUSED TO SEAT US because I had my Venti Starbucks in hand, and they "don't allow outside beverages". The only options the server gave us was 1) Stand here and just down the whole thing first before they seat us, like they do with water at the airport before going thru Security (HELLO, I'm a small girl, and this drink was a Venti...I wanted to have it to enjoy over the next hour or so!), or 2) Throw my full drink away & order something from THEIR coffee bar!!! I told the server I got the Starbucks while I was stuck waiting in their line, and that it was my birthday, but he did not care and looked at our party of 2 as if we were such a huge inconvenience. He didn't even offer to package up our order to go for us. Honestly at this point due to the customer NON service, I would have liked to have just left and not given them any of our hard earned money, but since we waited so long and had plans immediately afterward, I had the idea to order & take our food to-go and eat it from our ocean view penthouse suite. It turned out to be a MUCH better idea than eating in their restaurant, which I noticed was very uncomfortable, cramped & such a noisy atmosphere. If there was music playing I could not hear it over the sounds of all the silverware clanking and the other patrons were all speaking loudly to be heard over everyone else. The Corned Beef Hash omelette and Portugese Sausage dishes we ordered were OK, though I could have made these items better myself in our own kitchenette & saved us the overpriced cost, the hassle and the inconvenience of dealing with such rigid people. The server was so rude, unfriendly and unwelcoming that I was thankful I didn't have to tip because it was a to-go order. I usually tip 20% but would have written a negative tip amount on this order if it were possible. So the moral of the story is, this is a tourist trap, highly overpriced and you will be treated like a herd of people trying to cram through airport security. I will never eat here again. Save your money and your time and go to Duke's Breakfast Buffet for all you can eat goodness, a great view, consistently awesome service & much better ambience. read more

My wife and I ate here the day after we where married as we stayed down town for the evening. It was a nice walk to the place but we didnt mind at all. As we get there about 930 or so we where told it would be a wait time of 10 or so minutes in which we both where ok with. 3 minutes later our buzzer goes off and we headed up stairs. We where seated in the back along the balcony. Now mind yoh not the greatest view but, I didnt come here for a view I came here for some good food. The service was excellent from start to finish. Even though we had our backs to where the waitress came from she was still able to get us our drinks and food with having it spilt everywhere. Which for me was very impressive because each time she came I was trying move out the way but ended up being in the way. We ordered half a papaya which very good way to start the breakfast. We both ordered iced coffee with milk. For me it was quiet strong but thats not a complaint just it was a little unexpected. For food we both ordered the portegese sausge and eggs. My wife had it with rice. I had it with the pancakes. Now for me, Im kinda a pancake snob. If the pancakes are not as good as can make at mom why even bither going to the resturant and oredering food. But I alsways have to try it where ever I go. Here at Eggs and Things, they do it right. My husband and I went visited (their new location, 343 Saratoga Rd, not 1911 Kalakaua) their new location, after going to there old location any time we were in Hawaii. We were really pleased to find, that they had the same menu and the exact same prices! The new location is a two story building, that feels like old Hawaii, they even have these great historical pictures of Hawaii throughout the restaurant. This location has a more open air feel. We actually went twice so far... once we waited with the mobs of people waiting to get in in the morning, but then we found out they just opened for dinner, from 5:00 PM - 10:00 PM, so last night we went in the evening. That's one thing great about this new location, it is much closer to the heart of Waikiki, so it was only a 10 minute walk from our hotel (Royal Hawaiian). In the evening, there was no wait, and it had a great relaxed feel. Nothing like having breakfast for dinner (only on vacation)! I would suggest trying to go in the evenings, if you need somewhere to eat that's filling, delicious, and economical. I think this won't be a well kept secret for long... I don't think many people know they don't have to wait in the morning lines, they can come back at night and just really enjoy the atmosphere. My husband fell in love with the Ahi and Eggs, so I'm sure we'll have to come back at least one more time before we go home. read more

Weirdest place I've ever eaten at. You gotta line up and someone hands you the menu and you have to decide what you want (while standing up), then tell a stationary server what you want. Then you line up and pay for your meal, then line up and wait for a table. They gave me a pager that lights up and vibrates when your food is done. You have to hold up your hand so they know where to bring the food. My pancakes came with coconut syrup and FAKE maple syrup - yeah FAKE ! Sugar syrup ! Pancakes were very tough and hard to cut. Eggs were good, but anyone can make good eggs. Then I tried to order more food but was not allowed to. Guess I had to get back in line and order more food and wait for another table. A server was tapped on the shoulder by a customer and she yelled at him NOT to do that. NO idea why they would not have a regular way of getting food to you and pay after.... it's like they don't trust anyone. Kinda like a MacDonalds way of doing it. AND, paper plates and cups and plastic utensils... screw the environment ! Oh my gods... weird place indeed. read more

This place sucks!!!! How can you have terrible service in Hawaii. My wife and I were looking for breakfast this morning and decided to try this place out as it is right down the street from the Trump Wakikki. We wait 25 mins to be seated. Once we are seated we order our food and water as well as orange juice. A minute later a rude gentlemen maybe the manager says that I can't drink Starbucks coffee inside the restaurant. Yet we I look around there are others with coffee that seems to be from outside places as well as water bottles from the Trump Hotel. When I questioned why I was being singled out the alleged manager goes well its just water. My reply was well its just coffee and I ordered another beverage which was orange juice as well as ordering about 40 bucks worth of food! Long story short we left but please don't eat here try out the Denny's on Lewers Street or Mac 24/7 these places are much friendlier. Also the Trump has a great breakfast buffett and a great staff! Couple months ago I went with a buncha friends to see what the whoop was about the hr long lines, only to find that there was no whoop. Please tourists, don't waste your time here. Locals, you already know. I dont get why people wait that long for breakfast when they can easily get it anywhere else! There's nothing special about the breakfast here. Customer service: I don't like the hosts much (who likes being yelled at or seeing japanese tourists being yelled at to get their attention). There's not much geniune aloha there. I much prefer the servers, they are much better at customer service. Food: The macadamia nut pancakes considering i don't like pancakes much. But I'm sure I can make better at home. Tip: If its a NEED TO experience, go early and beat everyone else to the line. Tip: Locals, you'll get better food at a cheaper price an KOA PANCAKE HOUSE! **Yelp Review: Eggs 'n Things, Waikiki** I recently visited Eggs 'n Things in Waikiki, and I must say, it's not what it used to be. The restaurant now feels very corporate and has lost the charm it once had. Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the establishment has taken a significant hit. The restaurant was dirty, and the bathrooms were in poor condition. The wait was incredibly long, so I highly recommend making a reservation online to avoid standing in line. Also, make sure you don't go to the wrong location. Once seated, I found the tables to be quite small, which made for an uncomfortable dining experience. The food presentation was disappointing as well. The plates were plastic and cheap, which didn't help the overall feel of the meal. I ordered the loco moco, and it was way too salty. Overall, it's sad to see how much this place has declined. I hope they can improve their standards and return to their former glory. read more

We were there for brunch, around Noon on a Wednesday. I had an omelette w/ cheese, mushrooms, and onions. My side was potatoes. My wife ordered a waffle w/ Nutella and whipped cream w/ a side of spam. My omelette was perfect. Cooked the way I liked it with just the right amount of filling. The type of potatoes weren't specified when I ordered them, but when they came, I was thrilled... they were home fries, also cooked perfectly. My wife throughly enjoyed her waffle and spam. They offered her syrup to go with her waffle, but she didn't need it, due to the sweetness of the Nutella. The only down side is that you can put your name on the waiting list online, but it doesn't seem to do any good. You get your table based on arrival. This is why I deducted one star. read more

It's a little tight inside and out but that's okay! The atmosphere is amazing, the random chickens/roosters walking around makes it even better while you wait on your table. Typically in any place where you wait for a table it takes a while, however here the turnaround is fantastic! Granted I traveled alone for a couple of days but you better believe that I dined twice here for breakfast! The employees are sweethearts and they care for you like family. I believe the manager came by my table both times I visited and even told me "hey you're back" and which I responded "of course!" If you're in Oahu, Eggs 'n Things is a must-visit! I came here for breakfast and was blown away by how good everything was. The food came out hot and fresh, the portions were generous, and the staff were super friendly and welcoming. The real star, though? The coconut syrup. Hands down one of the best things I've ever tasted, it's sweet, creamy, and adds that perfect island touch to their already amazing pancakes. I wish I could've bottled it up and taken it home! The vibe is relaxed and casual, with a nice local feel even though it's a popular spot for visitors too. Totally worth the wait if there's a line. A must-visit breakfast/brunch spot in Honolulu! The service here is top-notch. Even though there was a line outside, the wait was minimal--we were seated within 15 minutes. The Hawaiian chicken and waffles were absolutely delicious, and the Kalua pork Benedict with multicolored potatoes was a standout. Seating is available upstairs, with a spacious patio overlooking the street and plenty of indoor options as well. A refreshing ocean breeze flows through the restaurant, adding to the relaxing island vibe. Special shoutout to our server, Miei--super friendly, accommodating, and welcoming to everyone. Update: the owner said to email them to let them know what happened. I emailed the email provided by owner and of course I got no response. They put in there to reach out like they care but I emailed him the same day and it's been over a week and no response. Proves my point that their customer service is horrible and treat people like crap. Take your business to other locals or even corporations who appreciate your business rather than this indifferent company/owner. Invest your money is helping business who care about their customers and make difference. This is not the place to drop ur hard earned cash!!!! read more

The food is okay, bit overrated.... The staff were nasty and condescending on multiple occasions behind customers backs. I was wondering what was going on so I starting observing the waitstaff and noticed that they were only pleasant to non-white customers. I thought it was just me thinking this, until we went else where for meals. We went to go into a shop and an American white man said to us "I would advise you not to go in there, they don't like white people!" Then it all clicked.... Stop by for breakfast and was sent upstairs to dining room. Place was ok and no one greeted me. So went to find a seat. Lady came by 2 minutes later and said I sat myself. Well, no one was at entrance. Then sat there for 10 minutes and it was not busy. Saw 3 or more wait staff just walking around all grumpy. No one said hello or anything. 15 minutes later still no service or water. Decided to leave as I see they don't like Asian customers. Sad, advice, try somewhere they will appreciate your business. I don't know how or why a restaurant named eggs & things could be so utterly terrible. With all the hype we read about, we waited. When we were finally seated it took about 10 mins for a waiter to stop even though they passed us a few times. Our food finally arrived and it was a completely different order. To say the least we had to wait again for our order to be corrected and at no time was there even the smallest apologie. Not to mention, the food was not worth the wait at all. Not recommend. Food was mediocre. Nothing to write home about. Main reason I'm writing this review is because the server and lady at the billing counter were rude. They were out of kids menus but then expected me to know what was on the kids menu, giving me attitude because I didn't know the options for a plate of kids pancakes. I love this place. I think the breakfast is very high quality food and the only thing that sucks is the long wait to get a table and the prices seem a little high. It's a treat to go there now and again for me. If you are looking for good quality food and don't mind waiting a million years for a table, give them a shot. The waitlist process was seamless and very helpful. The food came out fast and tasted amazing. I had the Loco Moco and it was so flavorful. Upgrade to the fried rice if you try it. My son's French toast and my daughter's pancake sampler were also delicious. My husband had the chicken and waffles and he said he enjoyed them as well.
