Ate brunch here today. It was very busy. Apparently the espresso machine was broken after awhile but was fixed. The food was good, but came out at different times for our party of 7. It also took awhile for breakfast food. 4 plates came out, 5 mins later the other 3 did. And then maybe another 5 mins the rest of the sides came out as they obviously couldn't fit on the same plate as the first round. Yea they were busy. But no one could have followed the food runner? Sometimes our server wasn't in site (she couldn't help food runner apparently) and she was very forgetful. Had to ask twice for a box and she walked away as my aunt was trying to order from coffee bar menu. But when she returned and she was wanting to order she said she couldn't add to our order as the machine was broken, but the order she already put in were still being made so it seemed odd. But my aunt was fine and just had coffee from the pot. Server also put in wrong drink for my mom as well, but she drank it anyway. Maybe she heard wrong but she should have confirmed. Love this place for breakfast!! Have gone with adults and with kids, and was welcomed with friendly and quick service every time (even when they are packed!!)... Their morning drinks are a great way to start the day and they'll whip up just about anything you want. The goat cheese frittata is worth eating more than once. Yum!! The one star loss is parking. Not really their fault. Several great eateries in one little strip with a tiny parking lot and crowded, busy street makes this part a headache. Ugh. Love the restaurant though. read more

I really enjoyed breakfast/brunch here. It was my first time. Nice atmosphere, very friendly and efficient staff. I had the Eggs and Grits w/Sausage patties. We were in Kansas City for family wedding and asked around for suggestions for breakfast. Overwhelmingly the suggestion was Eggstc. After what was supposed to be a 1 mile walk turned into 3 1/2 miles (GPS gave wrong instructions) we found it. Staff was very friendly. Our server even gave us a couple of waters to go in case the GPS was wrong again. Biscuits and gravy was fantastic. All the other biscuit gravy I've had was with pork sausage, this was with freshly ground Charizo. That (plus the pepper) gave it a great kick! When we come back to Kansas City, we're going to Eggstc for breakfast! read more

This has always been one of our go-to breakfast and brunch places. Its ALWAYS packed so be ready to wait, but the menu and coffee is worth it! Their food is above breakfast standards if you're looking for something to impress rather than the usual First Watch. The have lattes while you wait also and accompanied with their cinnamon rolls is the perfect breakfast appetizer! The cost is also reasonable - my go to is the eggs Benedict! The sauce is perfect and always comes with seasonal veggies. They have things for all types of breakfast lovers too and for kids! Great atmosphere for friends, kids, and fam! read more

It's capitalism, right? If you open a restaurant, selling food is the whole point. However, I think, for any restaurant, there's a "zone of optimality." The customer volume last Saturday, coupled with a brisk 45-degree wind blowing down Main Street, made my first experience at Eggtc. less than hoped for. My grandson and I had finished earlier haircut appointments and figured to grab a late breakfast before heading to Lawrence to meet family for the KU-KSU women's basketball game. I'd heard about and read about (on Yelp, of course!) about Eggtc., I love breakfast, and it was more or less on the way. Why not? Over the years we've sampled many of the popular KC breakfast spots, but I've never seen one even close to as crowded as Eggtc. was last Saturday. Is that normal? We wedged our way into the restaurant, left our name and waited for about 20 minutes until a table was ready. Unfortunately, it was the table closest to the front door. Kudos to management for posting a sign asking patrons to not open both the outer and inner doors of the small foyer at the same time. The regulars and thinking people get it; the other half, not so much. For those unable to assess their immediate surroundings and act accordingly, let me just say that you don't stand holding entrance/exit doors wide open while cold air rushes into a restaurant, rendering diners' formerly hot breakfasts and coffees ice cold. Think, people! A minute after being served, any hope of enjoying a delicious breakfast had vanished in the chill wind. I may have enjoyed my salmon and goat cheese frittata had I been able to taste it warm. I'm sure it was four-star quality, if only our draw in the table lottery had been more fortuitous. I believe the four- and five-star reviews. Yelpers are a trustworthy lot. In spite of a kitschy venue, a creative menu and superb waitstaff, three stars is all I can give for now. This is Bob and Lois's favorite breakfast place, so she and Alan and I had brunch here after her yearly eye exam this morning. She and Bob describe eggs perfectly cooked to order. The restaurant was not full when we arrived abut started filling up rapidly. School must be out because there were lots of families w/ kids. The noise level rose, but never became unpleasant. There are two rooms. We sat in the main one; I didn't see the other, which was up three shallow stairs. I gather the waits on the w/es can be epic. It's a popular place. The menu is extensive and flexible. Additions and substitutions are encouraged. Lois ordered the Classico, two eggs w/ choice of meat plus potatoes or fruit and bread. She had her eggs poached, bacon, fruit and whole wheat bread. Alan ordered corned beef hash and substituted fruit for potatoes. He and I shared a large fresh squeezed orange juice and Lois had a small glass. I ordered Athena's Omelet, w/ feta, kalamata olives, tomatoes and red onions and added spinach and mushrooms. Taking my lead from Lois, I substituted fruit for the potatoes and ordered the wheat bread. Lois and I had English Breakfast tea. The orange juice was heavenly. Good start. Lois was pleased w/ her meal, which came as ordered. Alan pronounced the corned beef hash tasty. He loved the wheat bread. I was delighted w/ my omelet, although I would have preferred the olives to be chopped rather than whole so they could have been spread throughout. The feta was strong in the way I like it and all the other ingredients blended nicely. The bread, from a local Italian bakery, was a revelation. It was sliced thick, toasted lightly and then grilled, so it carried just a hint of butter. All in all, we were very pleased w/ our meals. If this place were in our area it would be a regular brunch stop. read more

Ick!!! I had what was quite possibly the WORST lunch I've ever had in my entire life. I ordered their veggie wrap--falafel, tomato and cucumber on a pita. I thought it sounded harmless enough, but I was wrong. The falafel seriously looked like horse manure, and also tasted the way I imagine horse manure to taste. They went way overboard with the sauce they put on it (also gross) to the point that the pita was soggy and dripping. And they really skimped when it came to the veggies. I ordered sweet potato fries as a side which were bland and uninteresting. I ended up throwing it all in the trash and I hate wasting food. :( I ended up eating Chex Mix for lunch and it still didn't get that horrid taste out of my mouth. Bleh. read more

So.....it's delicious, of course. But, seriously? My wife and I came up here to meet up with some out-of-town friends for brunch. After putting our name in, we waited an HOUR and a HALF to be seated. Don't get me wrong, I'm ok with a little bit of a wait. But an hour and a half seems a bit much for breakfast. If it weren't for the fact we hadn't seen our friends in ages, and enjoyed the chance to catch up with them, we definitely would have bailed. Once we were seated, the harried server bluntly instructed us, "Order quickly. The kitchen is slow." Well, alrighty then! Hello to you, too! That said, the Southwestern Benny is delicious and the pancakes are good. Prices are some of the lowest in town for food of this caliber. While visiting my boyfriend in KC we were driving around and I Yelped "breakfast" and we ended up at Eggtc. on a Sunday morning. So glad this is where we came! The wait was about 30 minutes, but well worth it. The service was quick and attentive, and the coffee was great. Next time I'm hoping to try one of the more fancy falvored coffees. I ended up creating my own omelet with roasted red peppers, goat cheese, and fried eggplant. It was out of this world, and massive. The bad service handbook was written at Eggtc. Are you kidding me? Wait 10-15 minutes to be seated on a weekday at 10:00. Ok, no big deal. The place is warm, well-decorated...cute as my mom says. You just want to like it. Seated...no server for at least 5 minutes-- being generous. Uncomfortable and conversation turns to WTF is going on here. Server is apologetic and offers to take drink orders and food orders together. Ok, no big deal. The place is bustling. Wait 5-10 minutes and server announces they're out of egg nog for coffee. OK, no big deal. Wait 5-10 minutes and food is delivered-- no drinks to speak of... Wait 5-10 minutes and "egg nog latte" comes out according to hostess that delivers it. WTF. It's obviously not eggnog as it's tried. Coffee is decent...food is so-so. Nothing special and a good step down from le peep or first watch. Bagel and lox is $9 and looks like I just hit up Hen House. Lettuce wilted underneath. 100% pure meh... Try to leave. Server brings check and Mom offers to pat straight up. Server walks away. Card sits on check 5 minutes as other servers pass it while ours is MIA. Mom flags down another server to take it. We watch it sit on the POS until our server reappears and runs. Getting the check taken care efficiently is the #1 issue with servers and this was a complete failure. Service or lackthereof should never be a distraction. At my experience at eggtc it was not only a distraction, but consumed the entire experience. Go to Cosentinos and buy $30 worth of groceries instead of chancing it with bad service and wildly mediocre food. At least the place is "cute" read more

Breakfast is by far my favorite meal, so it takes a lot to impress me; Eggct always does. The Athena's omelet, with kalamata olives, feta, balsamic reduction, is killer. They also offer cripsy sweet potato fries, which they will gladly substitute for your side. Also a great place for lunch, which tends to be much less busy than the morning on weekends. I had been hearing about this place for a long time but finally had a chance to go here this past weekend. I had heard that the place filled up quick so my dining companion and I went right when they opened at 630am (which there were a surprising number of people doing the same). I had the finish line omelet and had some of my gf's sweet potato pancake. Both were very delicious although I didn't really taste the difference between the SP pancake and a regular pancake. Service was attentive and my coffee never got more than half empty. Prices are very reasonable with our breakfast being around $25. I will definietly be back to try some of their other breakfast foods (and probably lunch too!) read more

It's a fact: Any place that serves not only breakfast burritos but also breakfast tacos is going to get from me at least a 4 star. Thankfully, everything else about Eggtc. reflects four stars as well. Let's just talk about these breakfast tacos. First of all, they're vegetarian, which made me sad. Then they said I could add meat if I wanted to. That made me happy. This breakfast was shaping up to be a roller-coaster of emotions. I went with chorizo, because chorizo is the best, and i'm not stupid. Served with a good-sized portion of fruit. It was a wise decision. My breakfast mates dined on a variety of dishes, ranging from potato skillet, crepes and omelettes. Everybody was quite happy with their food. Also, the coffee was pretty dang good, and they kept our glasses full. I wish that they would serve real cream, however. I hate those little single sized portion things. Service was friendly and efficient, but not much else to say. One note: We arrived at 8:00 on a Saturday and got a table right away. When we left at 9:00, there was a line out the door. I've had few negative food experiences in the city, but this was one of them. Stopped in for a late Sunday brunch because I had a coupon and because I'm always up for finding a new breakfast place. It was crowded but we got a seat in the bar area... no problem. Husband ordered an omelet, while I decided I was in the mood for something different and ordered the falafel. Lots of people were ordering omelets at Sunday brunch, so my husband's took a long time to make. As we were waiting, I could see my dish sitting there... and sitting there... and sitting there waiting for the omelet so they could be brought out together. And when they were, my dish had sat out so long that it was difficult to eat... everything had kind of gotten tough under the heating lamp. My fault for not ordering off the brunch menu? Maybe you could argue that. It was tasty (and my husband liked his meal ok), but we were disappointed enough that we haven't been back. read more

Eggtc. does simple breakfast food and they do it really well. Does anyone really come here for lunch? The Margarita omelet with roma tomato, basil and fresh mozzarella is to die for. The breakfast sandwich is a favorite food subject of mine and they make a GREAT one. I subbed out the meat and got it on a whole wheat bagel. Amazing. The breakfast potatoes are perfect, but I usually order fruit as my side in order to feel like I'm being "healthy" (while I steal bites of the potatoes off my friend's plates). A few bites of warm, cinnamon-y french toast that my roommate had made me a believer in FT again. Service can be a little slow, but why wouldn't it be with the three dining rooms packed full time? read more

Was very pleased to stop in here for the first time in years & see everything pretty much in order. the seat time is a little slow, to be expected, once you're served it's no longer eggcetera, but rather eggstacy. the only complaint is sometimes the staff seems overwhelmed or need a reminder they work in an establishment who's plates are off the hook. my children, who will bug me 90% of the time, (even 45 minutes after eating here), for happy meals nonetheless demolished their entire plates with no problem, my son even needing ANOTHER order of egg scrambled with cheese. i didn't even get to have a bite of my fruit cup, any meal i don't need help getting the kids to eat their fruits is a good meal... I always look forward to my monthly brunch at the ladies here at Eggtc. Unfortunately I think half of the town feels the same as this place is ALWAYS packed. However, they give you your own little pager allowing you to wait in the comfort of your car (on a cold day) or outside on a bench (on a lovely day.) This past time I happened to bring my own little carafe of kahlua-spiked coffee which helped the time go by oh-so-nicely. Thus far, I have sampled the biscuits and chorizo gravy as well as the huevos ranchos. Both were quite satisfactory. Next time I am going for the quiche as it looks AMAZING. Their bloody mary's are perfectly spiced and their lattes are gigantic (for those of you that would prefer a buzz of a different beverage.) read more

I have driven past this places several times and thought that I would love a reason to go there. Last week, a friend and I met for breakfast. It was hoppin'. The winter is when everyone becomes breakfast eaters apparently! I had an egg white omelet with goat cheese and cranberry chutney. Delish! A wonderful way to start my day. They have a great variety of breakfast and brunch items from the lighter side to the heavier. So it won't break your calorie bank, only if you can resist those buttery waffles and pancakes. It was decently priced and had okay service. However, we waited for the waitress to bring us our ticket only to notice 20 minutes later that she had put it on our table without us noticing. It has great big tables for those unexpected extended family visit or booths for those quiet morning conversations with your best gal pals. read more

Alright, Eggtc, X-Mas is over and the rage has returned... I'm re-reviewing this place. Here's why: First of all, this place has ridiculous hours. Yeah, they're open at 6:30 a.m. (why? To punish the staff?) but they close at 2. Actually, they close earlier, since I called one weekday afternoon at 1:45 to get a busy signal. A busy signal, in 2010. I guess someone was sending a fax or trying to connect to AOL. And when I got through at 1:50 (to place a quick carry-out), the phone rang and rang. I guess someone's gotta get home to watch "Home Improvement" on TBS. The service is kinda spotty. Spotty like spots of urine on your face. I went here after talking this place up with a group from work to get a simple carry-out. With their prices, we're talking it was a $50-60 haul from them. We waited for roughly 5-10 minutes right in front of the carry-out station, ensuring our food was nice and cold and soggy. We had to get the cheeky gay co-worker to flirt with the guy behind the counter to get attention. Haven't seen him recently, must be somewhere else ignoring people because he hates tips. Their prices aren't great, either. And the quality of food is hot-or-cold. None of this matters, though, as the restaurant is always packed with people that are either far luckier than I am, far more forgiving, or simply don't know any better. So consider this review an existential cry in the darkness. Avoid. read more

I wouldn't rate it as the best breakfast spot I've been to in the greater Midwest area but I'd give it a top 10 slot. A few yelp reviews mention slow service/long waits (and while we visited on a Thursday) our waitress was attentive and the food was prompt. All four of us got egg dishes. All four of us enjoyed them. My Apple & Goat Cheese omelet was very good (I think Dixie Quick's in Council Bluffs, IA is much better, fyi). Above average coffee. I would not hesitate to recommend eggct and I look forward to a trip back. read more

This was truly one of the best brunch experiences of my life (save the Bally's Steakhouse in Las Vegas, NV). Truly wonderful. And to most people it's just... A simple breakfast joint that looks like a hometown diner. But inside is something so much more. There were five of us. No reservations on a 10a Sunday morning. We were sat nearly immediately and were tended to by a try nice server with a great sense of humor. I started with the mango chai latte and, for mains, ordered the athena omelet and a side of guava cream cheese. And it was stunning! No one (the adults at least) had a complaint and much sharing was going on. I even got a SECOND mango chai latte for the road (we were driving back to Chicago). For the five of us, the bill came to $70 with tip. And for a table full of food and happiness, that's cheap at twice the price. My only recommendation is to come early. Parking in lot can be a challenge but there's plenty of free parking around, either in the lot out back (which is messy and small) or street parking). read more

The CYO Skillet is to die for (you build it yourself and you have a million different options, so it CANT be wrong) and they have this totally addicting fruit and granola parfait...De-licious. My colleague and I chose Eggtc recently for a business breakfast. A friend of mine isn't the biggest fan of this place so I am always hesitant to dine here. But, I conceded this particular time since my peer requested this spot for our meeting. I'm glad I did! The atmosphere is cozy and not too congested. I imagine it may get a bit congested during a weekend breakfast rush, but on this particular morning, the atmosphere was perfect for our meeting. We didn't have to raise our voices and not once was I shoved from behind from busy wait staff or guests headed to the restroom. One of the best features of Eggtc is their big coffee cups. And since they fill it with Parisi coffee, a local roaster, it makes it even that much better! The larger-than-average cups keep the coffee heated longer and doesn't require the server to constantly fill the cups. Eggtc offers "Sugar in the Raw" which is always great to see. The menu offers a nice selection of breakfast offerings including omelets, breakfast sandwiches, traditional fare, and crepes. There's even a homemade Breakfast Pizza, which I'm sure is perfect for a Sunday morning hangover. This time I opted for a lighter breakfast of fruit, yogurt and granola. I also had to order the Sweet CousCous because it really piqued my foodie interest. The fruit was ripe, delicious and plentiful. The yogurt and granola were served in nice sized ramekins on the side, giving the diner the option to mix the two with the fruit or eat separately. And the Sweet CousCous was delicious! I requested only a small side of the couscous, which the server was more than willing to provide to me. Speaking of, our server was great! I really have to start remembering servers' names so I can give them proper props. She was readily available to us, but not intrusive at all, which is nice during a business meeting. My colleague also had a question about the sourcing of Eggtc's bagels. While it may have been easy just to come up a little white lie on the spot, our server took the time to find out the answer. That's always appreciated. The one drawback is that seating is very open and doesn't allow for much privacy. I'm a fan of booths to create just a little bit of intimacy when dining out. And at one point, the host was going to seat a tiny two-top immediately behind our table when there were ample tables empty throughout the restaurant. Thankfully, the two-top requested to move to a different table with a little more room. Overall, I'm happy my peer requested Eggtc. Now I just have to take my nay-saying friend and let him experience what I did. read more

I was very spoiled living in Portland and the wealth of amazing brunch places there. Eggtc makes me miss it a little less. I've been there twice now. Both times on the weekend and both times a long wait. The first time I came with my husband and little one. It was a beautiful day so we didn't mind waiting outside. There was also a huge party waiting so we figured that was probably why it was taking so long. Once we were seated, our server was kind, friendly and very accommodating to our son. I really liked the eggs benedict and my husband enjoyed his as well. The second time, the little guy was at grandmas so we came alone. That meant we could grab seats at the counter when they came available. It still took about 15 minutes and after we sat down even more opened up. Our server again was friendly. I had a breakfast burrito and it was good. My husband loved his grits. Will definitely be back as there aren't many brunch places that we've found so far. I've heard about Eggtc for as long as I've lived in Kansas City, but just went for the first time with some friends last week for lunch. I was excited to see that they served Parisi coffee, but was less than satisfied with the cup that I was served - for some reason it had the aftertaste of dill pickles. After looking over the menu, I decided to settle on the biscuits and gravy (made with chorizo) and served with a side of breakfast potatoes. When I think of biscuits and gravy, I think of two very large biscuit halves, smothered in gravy, so I was a little disappointed when my plate arrived. There was only one biscuit and it looked like one of those small biscuits your mom would make you from a tin can on Saturday morning. The gravy tasted good, I couldn't really taste the chorizo as much as I had hoped. After all was said and done, I think the most tasty thing on my plate was the breakfast potatoes, I definitely regretted my decision to order biscuits and gravy. I think I'll stick to going to Succotash for those. read more

Since my doctor says dessert is a course and not a meal, I think it's safe to say that breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, and not just because it's super important. I spend a little chunk of my discretionary income at breakfast joints on the regular, and a few times a year, I spend it at Eggtc. Whenever I come, I'm a little disappointed. The place looks great; full of sun from the giant windows, light-colored wood giving everything an airy feeling, large and comfy booths and chairs. It's way too pricey for me, though. The food is solid, there are a bunch of choices, the servers are pleasant, and the chai latte is *outstanding*, but I never feel like I get my money's worth from what I eat. I am legendary for always having food to take home from restaurants, but I have yet to snap the lid on a to-go box from Eggtc. I have had many things both sweet and savory here, and in my opinion, the sweeter side of breakfast is where Eggtc. ... egg-cels. You know I love breakfast and finding ourselves near the area at the right time we found this place. Not sure if they have a parking lot, but street parking was easy. We arrived early on a Saturday morning around 7:30 and there was no wait and plenty of seats. It looked like the crowd showed up around 8:00 and the lines began forming, so plan accordingly! The space was nice and inviting with some great artwork on the walls. Very comfortable! The wait staff was friendly, helpful and indulgent of our slow pace filling our coffee mugs many, many times. Big, big menu. We had the Southwestern Benny which is a biscuit topped with a sausage patty a load of scrambled eggs and a sausage gravy made with chorizo and served with breakfast potatoes. The gravy was delicious with a great flavor of sausage gravy but with the hit of what must be Mexican chorizo - to me a heavy paprika with some heat. Next time, I will get a sunny side up egg instead of the scrambled as I think the eggs were lost in the dish. The party also had the Sicilian sandwich with was a hard salami, prosciutto which is a dry cured ham along with an over easy fried egg, creamy mozzarella, basil, lettuce, tomato all on sourdough bread. Declared delicious by the eater, it looked awesome. The boy got the three stack of wheat bread French Toast which he said was great, but way too much for a kid. I hate breakfast outside of my home. I mean, why pay $10 for $1 in eggs? Why pay $2 for 50 cents in orange juice? The only right answers are 1) because you can and 2) because you are not buying... someone else is. So the bossman wants to go out for breakfast and talk some biz. We sit at the bar because we have little time to spare. We order and see the orange juicing contraption and order small juices as well. My juice was gone in 30 seconds. Almost heavenly delicious. Order a large and you might make it past one minute. I had to hit the Parisi coffee hard to keep from weeping without that wonderful juice. This is my favorite area breakfast place (extra points for not being a chain). The menu has enough variety that I can get something heavy (the Southwestern Benny is delicious) or I can get something light. Good specials and extremely friendly staff. I like how I can order a latte or a smoothie made from real fruit. They will refill your latte with regular coffee at no charge. I don't enjoy being in crowded restaurants, but it is unavoidable here - there is always a wait, from 8am until 1pm, but it tends to go quickly and the food is worth it. Eggtc. offers traditional fare such as French toast, pancakes, eggs benedict, et cetera. But what is most interesting is the spin on those traditional offerings, plus unique choices it has. For example, there are several burrito and crepe varieties, egg dishes, and omelet choices. The problem was, I didn't adore my selection. I had a lot of trouble deciding what I wanted, which is unusual for me. Something normally sticks out to me on a menu, so the fact I couldn't choose made me excited at all the options. I went with the Rockies Benny, which is ham and cheddar and a southwest blend and hollandaise served over a croissant. It wasn't too bad, but wasn't anything to write home about--which I wouldn't have had to do anyhow because my mom was among our group. What shocked me more than anything though--and this is the reason I want to come back--is my girlfriend said they have the best chicken fried steak she's ever had, and she loves chicken fried steak and fried chicken. So, I'm intrigued by the other options. Other strikes are the dated atmosphere and bad service. I understand they're busy, but we were getting service from a number of people, and we weren't checked on once after the food was dropped. No water refill checks and my coffee was never topped off. I don't think anything will ever beat Denny's or IHOP, as far as honest, hard work at a breakfast place. Those servers work their butts off. Lots of very positive things about here, and lots of very negative things. So I guess they balance each other out.
