The deep matcha tasted horrible-- nothing like the earthy, authentic matcha taste that I look for in matcha drinks. The matcha "pudding" also had a strange flaky texture and it wasn't smooth like an egg pudding. It just tasted gross in my mouth. I couldn't drink it, and everyone agreed that it tasted bad. My mom got the 4 Fold fruit tea and it was just okay. But my mom asked if it was made with fresh fruit juice and the cashier said yes, and then proceeded to whip out a carton of Sunny-D and passionfruit jam. This place tries really hard to look aesthetic and high quality like other competitors such as Sunright, but they really cut a lot of corners in the actual ingredients of their drinks. Came here on a spontaneous craving for boba. I usually get boba around the LA area because I've had mediocre drinks in the OC. However, coming to Eightfold has really given me a whole new positivity towards boba in OC. I ordered the Deep Matcha Fresh Milk and my girlfriend had the Jasmine Green Milk Tea. Both drinks made our day. The Deep Matcha harmonizes so well with the amount of matcha and the fresh milk that it was so hard to savor it. The Jasmine Green Milk Tea has the perfect amount of tea flavor, so you're able to really take in the aroma of the jasmine. The shop inside has very minimal/earthy aesthetics and it's kinda tucked away in a big plaza so there's multiple routes to get inside if you are trying to find the exact location. I typically come here after a trip to Raising Cane's since it is so close by haha. I came here multiple visits but I could only recall my most recent visit. I ordered the Raspberry Matcha Crafted Milk Tea. I forgot to check-in on yelp but if I did, I would have asked to get egg pudding in my drink. It comes in a nice long slender cup like most other aesthetically looking boba shops these days, and the colors do pop (especially the raspberry)! I really do like my drink, because the flavors are pretty subtle and not super overpowering. The raspberry compliments the matcha in the drink by toning down the tang in the fruity and bringing some depth to the flavor. The milk definitely cools the drink down so it's nice and balanced. There's plenty of parking in the plaza so that shouldn't be a problem. I will definitely return in the future to try out the other drinks! read more

New boba shop! I was in the area one day and decided to check this place out. It just opened so it was very clean inside. It was a little bit hard to find since all they had was a banner with the name of the place.. I ordered their hojicha tea with salted cheese and it was yummy. I liked it a lot. I think the salted cheese added a nice touch to the tea. My friend ordered the thai tea with boba and it wasn't very impressive... I tried it and didn't like it. Their thai tea was not good and their boba was way too squishy and hard to chew. I don't recommend the thai tea. Maybe the boba is preferable to some but not to us. I recommend people try this place just to try it and see if they like it. Their menu is rather small right now but hopefully it'll expand as time goes on! read more

I stopped by here on a whim after a Target run. The employees greeted me upon entrance and offered me a physical menu as I started to scan the board menu mounted on the wall. I decided to play it safe by ordering one of the basics and my to-go drink, jasmine milk tea. Asked for less sweet and less ice. If you check in on Yelp, they give you a free regular add-on. It came out to a little over four bucks before the add-on, which I think is a bit pricier than some. Their usage of loose leaf teas could be the prime factor for this though. There are a few tables for studying or hanging out. The interior is decorated with simplicity in mind. The inside dining area is cute and simple. Great place to go and enjoy a tea date with a friend. The gentleman who took our order was super helpful and even let us try their signature house blend (amazing!) before ordering. We ended up going with the Salted Caramel w/freak milk and the the Brown Honey w/fresh milk. Both drinks were so good! They were different from any other tea drink I have tried. My order: Raspberry matcha, with boba, full sweet Drink is overall very okay. The matcha is grainier than your average matcha drink. It kind of started coating the back of my throat and made me want to cough. The raspberry isn't that sweet so it's completely fine full sweet (even though I usually order 25% sweetness at most places). If you ask for less sweet they reduce the amount of raspberry so don't do that with this drink. I would even say I wish I had more raspberry. 1/3 through the drink I felt like I was drinking a matcha latte rather than a raspberry matcha drink. The boba is alright. Tastes pretty average and on the hard side rather than chewy. I came here during the store's soft opening. It is VERY hard to find without a sign up, but it's nestled right beside Chronic Tacos. Staff is friendly. There was no line at all and my drink came out quickly. Decor is meh... they're trying to look hip but weren't willing to put the money into it. The planters on the wall is a cute concept but once you're in the store you can immediately tell they're plastic and some of them were hanging off kilter. There was some seating but the store itself is pretty small. They have vegan friendly options: Milk teas can be made with dairy free creamer (not sure how it tastes). Boba is made with sugar, not honey. They also allow you to bring your own cup/jar. Overall it was a decent experience, but I probably would only come again if I was already in the area. read more

This review is long overdue. I've come to Eightfold Tea Shoppe multiple times and come here whenever friends are in town or after I shop at South Coast Plaza. I think the drinks are quality and I'm impressed by both their milk and fruit teas. Everyone here is always friendly and despite the smaller space, I always see a ton of people doing work here. Would not really recommend for large group hang-outs. PARKING: Been lucky to find parking right in front of the shop in the past. May be harder during peak hours. But since it's on the side of a shopping plaza, lots more parking is available the further inside you go. INTERIOR: Very clean and aesthetic. Love the plants as decorations and great lighting. Not just your average "insta-boba" shop. The interior looks good and the drinks actually taste good. Has free WiFi and a few outlets. DRINKS: Consistent in terms of quality. It's easy to adjust sugar levels and because I'm not a sugar addict, I tend to order my drinks in the 30-50% sugar range. Perfect for me. I actually enjoy their non-milk teas a lot more than the milk teas. - FOUR NOBLE FRUITS: My FAVORITE FRUIT TEA. Many boba places are starting to introduce this type of multi-fruit tea that generally has a passion fruit/orange juice added in a green tea with fresh, seasonal fruit slices and honey. I have tried a lot of these teas (Sunright, R&B, etc.). Four Noble Fruits strikes the perfect balance between their jasmine green tea, fruit, and sweetness. It has pieces of real strawberry, orange, lime, and watermelon. Comes with BASIL SEEDS! - HOUJICHA WITH SALTED CHEESE: Very impressed by the strong tea flavor. Because hojicha tea gives off a more bitter, roasted flavor, the salted cheese blended nicely. The salted cheese is not super thick (like Sunmerry or Tan Cha), but it balances the tea well. I prefer salted cheese toppings because it's easier to control your creamer to tea ratio if you don't mix it up. - STRAWBERRY MATCHA: Looks beautiful before you mix it up. I think there's just enough strawberry flavor to compliment the matcha taste. Thought the matcha was too grainy at the bottom. Would have liked a smoother consistency. -EIGHTFOLD SIGNATURE MILK TEA: This is their house milk tea. I didn't find it to be overly special or interesting. It had a pretty standard taste and I actually encourage trying their other milk teas if you're a tea lover. Feel free to ask for a sample before buying. - DEEP MATCHA: Definitely a show-stopper with the matcha running down the sides. If you love matcha, you'll love this drink. It's like a matcha latte on steriods. Because the matcha pudding is on the bottom, it actually prevents a lot of the grainy texture from going into your mouth at once. Would order this over the strawberry matcha if you don't mind a heavier and more decadent drink. - BOBA: Perfect texture and chewiness. It has good sweetness/caramelized flavor to it and QQ texture. Good amount given in the drinks. PRICE: Competitive. One-size only and is what I would call "large." Each drink will run you $3-4 normally. $5-6 if you order lots of add-ons. Love that they don't charge more than 50 cents for add-ons like boba and jellies. Overall: One of my favorite boba spots in OC. The tea is strong and aromatic.
