Alright. I've mulled over what I was going to say about this place for the past two days, and I think I'm ready. I love bagels. In fact, I love everything there is to enjoy about bread. I walk down the bread aisles, just smelling the loaves of bread, packages of bagels and english muffins. It's ALL good. Wish I could say that about this place. It's really hard to mess up bagels and coffee... and yet, this place messes it up every single time. I don't blame the company, I blame the staff. I blame them because they are lousy, rude, slow, and inconsiderate. So, yesterday, my boyfriend decided to run by this location for a pretzel bagel-- his absolute favorite. The last time we were there, they didn't have any left, and so he was really hoping to snag one this time. So, I was really excited when we walked in, found that there was absolutely NO LINE, and saw that they had 1 more pretzel bagel left! HUZZAH! So, we walked up to the register, ordered a half dozen assorted bagels, and his pretzel bagel toasted with a little butter on top... The cashier was rude, callous, slow, and behaved as if we were an inconvenience to him. Ordering was just incredibly uncomfortable, and my boyfriend is incredibly considerate to everyone that he runs across. He paid for his order, and we waited... and waited... and waited. 10 or 15 minutes passed and still... no order. While we waited at a nearby, a family or two walked in, ordered from the younger cashier that stood next to older man that we ordered from, got their food and left. Our guy was still fiddling with the cash register, the computers, and walking around the back. Once he finally flagged us down, he broke the news: That while this guy was messing around and staring at the cracks in the ceiling, the family that came in AFTER us took the last pretzel bagel. So, my boyfriend (crushed) ordered a potato roll instead just so we could grab the assortment of bagels in a bag that they handed us and leave. Our cashier didn't understand what the problem was: we had paid for items that we didn't receive and waited over 10 minutes only to be rushed out the door and given attitude for their missteps. Basically, what I'm trying to stress to everyone is, the staff does not treat you with respect, kindness, or as a priority. They obviously don't want to be there, and every single time that I have visited this location, most of them aren't working. It shouldn't be like this, and it makes me not want to even try coming here DESPITE the fact that it's the closest location to my apartment. I'd almost try visiting another location across town for the slim chance that maybe I'd at least find someone kind, and try their best get my order right instead of handing over nothing but poor attitude. I won't be back. Unless there's a massive overhaul in the staff employed at this location, I know exactly what I will find here. UPDATE: This is exciting. So, last weekend, my boyfriend decided that he wanted Einstein's for lunch. It was about 1:30pm. He knew that the odds of a positive outcome were slim... but he had faith. He had faith in the bagel and schmear gods. So, we pulled into the parking lot and made our way inside... and you know what we found? NOTHING and NOBODY. That's right. Not an employee to be found. Where were they? Beats me. I understand that anything after 12pm would be considered part of the slow or quiet part of the bagel buying day, but COME ON. I'm pretty sure that everyone just decided to go home or sit and hide out back in the supply closet until 4pm until it was time to officially close up shop. Oh, and they STILL didn't have any pretzel bagels. SO disappointing. read more

I'm surprised at the horrible reviews of this location. Lets discuss a few things 1) It's only been open for about a month or so. It needs time to work out a few kinks and for employees to get the groove of things. There are going to be errors. 2) For the review that mentioned the lack of cream cheese. The way I combat this is that I ask for it on the side. They give you a good size to-go container of cream cheese-which is plenty for one bagel. Problem Solved! 3) Ice Cold Bagel? The quickest way to fix that, is to ask them to toast it. If they do that, they won't go back in the fridge before they give it to you, so you won't have to worry about a "cold" bagel. It's nice and warm. I am currently pregnant and on a "I need a bagel in the morning" kick. I probably frequent here 2-3 times a week for my plain bagel with strawberry cream cheese on the side and sometimes a small coffee. In the many times I've been here since they opened, I've had one less than great experience here. Mess ups happen, but guess what? It's just a bagel, folks. If it ruins your day so badly, you my friend, need more than a bagel in the morning! I hope that others will give this location a chance. I was SO excited to see Einsteins opening down the street. And I know I wasn't the only one. Obviously needless to now say, I've never had a good experience at this place. I try to never complain and give chances but I give the white flag. My first experience was on the way to work in the morning. I work right down the street and left for work 20 minutes ahead if time thinking that was PLENTY of time for a drive through. I was stuck, literally stuck because there's a curb to your right, in the drive through for about 25 minutes making me late. The coffee I got that day was NOT darn good. It was darn average, and darn expensive for a cup of coffee and a bagel. A few bad experiences between. Cold bagels. Long waits. Etc. My last attempt was this afternoon after work. Waited about 10 minutes in the drive through lane, and there were absolutely ZERO cars in the drive through. Got my sandwich. It was cold. All of it. The chicken the bagel the everything. Not just like "oh this could be warmer" but like "wtf did they take it out of the fridge?!" COLD. Bagels can be room temperature/cold but a chicken sandwich has to be freezing cold? Not many people like cold chicken. Regardless of how long they've been open, seems as though they set a bad first, second, and third impression with customers. I can live without it. read more

Worst customer service. Ordered two bagels. One plain with nothing on it, not toasted. The other with cream cheese. They couldn't get that correct. Got one with cream cheese. And one sliced and toasted. All they had to do was put it in the bag. Then go back and they argue with me because I'm in the drive thru asking them to switch out the toasted for one not toasted. Why would anyone go here when there's an authentic New York style bagel shop (Wholy Bagel) literally right across mopac on Wm Canon. Do you want me to elaborate on why Einstein's is disgusting? Sure! -Einstein's bagels are loaded with preservatives and high fructose corn syrup. Gross. -Einstein's cheats and steams their bagels instead of the traditional boiling, these really aren't really even bagels -They only use a tasteless preformed egg substance -They microwave everything (Wholy Bagel has a grill for eggs, bacon, sausage, etc) -It's a heartless chain Do yourself a favor, skip this place and drive straight on to Wholy Bagel. Well, it's been 5 months since I've been back to this location to give them one more chance, and all I can say is "fail". 1. Nov 2013- instead of a pumpkin cookie, they gave us a pumpkin latte at lunch and argued that we "already took" a cookie... Of course we hadn't 2. Feb 2014- I sat in the drive-through line (8:30am) for 30 minutes (only because I couldn't get out). Myself and 2 other customers walked inside (leaving our Cars in the drive-through) to inquire about the delay... All we got was the "stoner shrug" - sat in our cars another 7 minutes before we could get out! 3. today, Aug 2014 - there were only 2 cars in line at 8:30am, so I decided to give them one last shot... 18 minutes later I finally made it to the window for a bagel with cream cheese. SERIOUSLY- I have NO idea how they are still in business with such a lack in efficiency and customer service. (And of course the order was wrong - toasted, when I asked them NOT too). I've been here numerous times since they've opened. I've tried to be objective because they're new, but I'm sorry, my order is always wrong. Every single time I come here- whether I walk in or drive thru. The staff rarely apologizes when I come back in after receiving the incorrect order- instead just seems to be put out by my presence. I think my order is pretty basic: Everything bagel, toasted with cream cheese and cut in half. Sometimes it's toasted, sometimes it's not. Sometimes it's an everything bagel, sometimes it's not. Sometimes I get cream cheese, sometimes I don't, sometimes it's some wacky flavor, but not once have they ever cut it in half as requested. One time it actually showed up in 4 pieces, so I guess technically, it was halved twice. This location is much more convenient for me, but from here on out, I'd rather be inconvenienced and go to the one on Lamar. read more

I've walked in twice at 7AM w/ no wait time. Ordered a bagel w/ cream cheese & a coffee. Einsteins is always good. But staff & mgmt make it a lasting business. The only problem I've had in my two visits is the gentleman today handing me my coffee cup did so in an unsanitary way, with his fingers inside the cup, rather than wrapped around the middle region of the cup. Hopefully this location gets some better TLC from management because it's in a very convenient spot on my way to work. read more

I have gone here four times and my order has been messed up all four times. I can deal with the wrong cream cheese, but what I can't deal with is the lack of cream cheese. Every bagel I have been given has had the thinnest spread of cream cheese that I cannot even taste it. In fact, last time I asked for extra cream cheese and still got the tiniest amount possible. I've only had a couple experiences at this location, none great, none terrible. The staff has generally been nice, it's the product the frustrates me. Today's Asiago bagel is about halfway between a regular size bagel and the thin bagels. Sorry but I like my big puffy traditional Einstein Bros. bagels! I've felt like various.locations have always been consistent before, or maybe I was not as aware and just didn't notice. But the other small thing was the presence of cinnamon on the lid of my cream cheese (shmear if you will) side container. Personally not a big deal but seeing as I ordered nothing cinnamon concerns me that they are not using clean knives, or being careful. I did take a second and kindly mention it to one of the staff, just something the manager should be aware of - it could have been a much bigger issue. Thank goodness I wasn't allergic to cinnamon, now that would have been a disaster! It's not always fair to judge locations against each other, but they are part of the same name, and whether chain or franchise, you tend to expect consistency in the brand. So when I've gone to the 12th Street location numerous times and rarely had an issue, it's hard not to compare. The staff were almost always super nice, cheery, and helpful. There was an occasional mixed up order or grumpy person, but overall a good location. And the bagels were also super nice and puffy! I'll give them the benefit and try again since it is the most convenient location to me, but as opposed to where I previously lived, there are a couple other bagel options in this area and in always apt to try the local spots before a chain. read more

So I go inside to place my order and then rush out. 10 minutes later I'm home and what you see is what I got. I thought I could save the extra 10 minutes it would take to go to Wholly Bagel. I can see this place going out of business in about a year. I've been in here a handful of times since it's near my house and does the job for a quick cup of coffee or a sandwich. Most of the employees are efficient and friendly which is always nice, but their prices are just not worth it for me. Plus I walked in last week on a Sunday morning with two people ahead of me and waited 20 minutes for coffee...and that was with 3 employees working behind the counter. I find that unacceptable. The kid working there was all over the place and it seemed he wasn't really paying attention. I've given it a fair amount of shots to where I won't be returning. read more

You really can't go wrong with Einstein's right? The bagels are so yummy, and they change up their flavors all the time. They also offer these new skinny bagels for the health conscious, or for when you just want less bread. I tried a breakfast bagel with the thin wheat and it was great! Also took a bucket for my office and the price was great - $15 for a bakers dozen and 2 cream cheese tubs. Seriously, it was inhaled by my coworkers with many thanks. Love this location because it is so easy to get back on Mopac. I have only been once and my order was perfect so can't comment yet on incorrect orders. Ambiance is always something I consider when I review (being an Interior Designer does that to you) and this place was exactly what I expected, kitchy, bright and small. My only comment is that it is a bit hard to get to the "order here" as it is the furthest location from the door. Makes more sense to put the order section closer, then I don't have to walk through tables and people to get there. read more

Do not waste your time or money. I've gone here 4 times over the past several months and they have yet to get my order correct. I don't order anything complicated - today it was an everything bagel with the smoked salmon spread and an iced coffee. After waiting in the drive thru for 18 minutes, I was given an everything bagel with plain spread and an iced coffee with grinds at the bottom. I have been to this location probably over 15 times and have had a correct order on every single occasion. I have loved every bagel and cream cheese combination as well! The staff is always friendly and fast. The ONLY thing that disappoints me here is the beverage situation. Coffee (hot or iced) that I've ordered has never tasted anything near good, the tea either tastes watered down or old, and sometimes even the sodas are off tasting. But I come here for the bagels and delicious cream cheese- not sandwiches or smoothies or coffee. If I see the drive thru line is long, I go inside and end up leaving quicker than I would have if I stayed in my car. It's worth walking in. Plenty of parking at this location, too. read more

Dear store owner/manager, please hire more employees to work here on Saturday. There were only 4 visible people working. The ONLY cashier was doubling as a barista, which made for a very long wait to order food with no one else in line. They weren't able to refill the depleted ice or fix the fountain machine because they are so busy filling food orders. They need to add a barista/cashier/food rider to help keep things running efficiently. ENTER DRIVE-THRU AT YOUR OWN RISK. It will make you late! Is management not paying attention to customer feedback? I don't know if it is a staffing problem or a lack of urgency, but the drive-thru service is among the worst I've ever experienced. It's consistently bad. Einstein's is on my way to work so I stop by periodically to get a bagel and coffee. After ending up "trapped" in the drive-thru line and late for work twice, I should know better. I decided to give them another chance today, as I left 5 minutes earlier for work than usual and there were only two cars in the drive thru. It took 12 minutes to get my order... I seriously considered jumping the curb in my truck to escape, but just sat there infuriated watching the minutes go by, trapped with 4 cars behind me. Even if you are using a lighter to toast the bagels and applying cream cheese in the most artistic fashion imaginable, it should not take over 10 minutes to get a bagel and coffee... This is not gourmet food. Also, why is the drive-thru closed some days with a traffic cone blocking it? Do you or do you not have a drive-thru service? I'm done with Einstein's. If I could give this location 0 stars I would do it. When they opened, like most other reviewers, I was so excited. This is the first time I've actually taken the time to write a negative review...I am usually very very understanding and forgive and forget, but this place has literally NEVER gotten my order right...EVER. How hard is it to get the quantity and types correct when ordering a bucket of bagels??? I'm not sure if the owner is actually aware how bad this location is, but they need to change the entire staff, starting with management...and they also need to do some quality control. Just ordered a couple of bagels and a drink from here. The other reviews are right-this place is extremely lacking in customer service skills and are really slow for some reason. I've worked in customer-facing job positions for over ten years now, so I generally am too understanding of another's faults if anything, and I'm always polite. That being said, we were in line for probably ten minutes with only one car ahead of us, and when we got our order it was incorrect. We just let the guy know at the drive through window that we ordered a hot chocolate instead of coffee and then he like stared my husband down and in a rather argumentative tone said "no you ordered coffee". Uh... why be awkward? We were really polite about it, and just wanted it switched since I can't have caffeine. The guy wordlessly takes the drink back and then took another few minutes to give us the correct one. By the time we were able to pull over into the parking lot to eat, our bagels were soggy and smushed. I love Einstein Bagels, but I'm done with giving this location a chance. Crappy service, wrong orders, and being called "bruh" makes me want to go elsewhere. read more

However this morning Esther was working the drive thru and made the experience so awesome! Love the coffee but ( DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION). I live around the area and they take forever making the coffee. Very Ridiculous. The managers are not doing their job at all. I went this morning and I waited in line for 18 mins!!!!! I didn't even get my coffee, I had to leave because I knew it would have taken them aother 5 mins to swipe my card and give me the coffee. Stopped here on the way to work to pick up a "Grab and Go" box of bagels for my team at work. I waited 20+ minutes in the drive through, which delayed my commute. Once I got my food and my mocha from the window, I was in a hurry to leave and get on the road to head to the office. Imagine my co-workers' disappointment, and my anger, when we opened the box of bagels and found out the two tubs of cream cheese that were supposed to be included with the bagels were nowhere to be found. If I ever return to this location again, I'll be sure to inspect the entire order before driving away. read more

Slowest drive thru ever. There has been two cars that have backed out of the drive thru behind us so far, a little girl who had time to get out of the car, go inside and use the restroom and then come back to the car that hadn't moved. If I could leave right now I would but we are stuck in between cars. I'm about to go bang on the window and ask if I can go in there and help out just so I can get my damn bagel and coffee. Would have went to Starbucks if I knew this place sucked balls so hard. Writing this from the carpool line where I have been waiting for 20 minutes. Yep, 20 minutes and counting. It's 9.30 am and there are 6 cars stacked up...This was an unfinished review from a few weeks ago. Unfortunately, my daughter persuaded me to try this place again this morning. We went in this time, so no car line to deal with. Inside takes forever, too, apparently. They were out of coffee. Yep, coffee. The shmear on my bagel was so thin I couldn't taste the stuff. I discovered this on the way to my daughter's school, so no turning around for me. This is by far the worst EB in Austin, possibly in Texas. I wish I still lived in North Austin. The one up there, and the one on Anderson are great. No problems. The Mopac one is consistently bad. I think I'm done with EB if I have to go to this location. They are terrible. read more
