We came here Sunday for dinner after craving for Dairy Queen and were not disappointed I had the tacos which were fresh full crisp and hot. My wife had a Dude sandwich and both had drinks. All was wonderful the dining area was clean all of the employees were friendly help and seemed to enjoy being there. DQ honors all veterans with a great discount and my wife and I are both veterans. I went there yesterday 1/8/26 and purchased the Chicken Tenders meal. I hadn't had their tenders in awhile so I was really looking forward to having them. I was disappointed, they tasted burnt even though the tenders themselves were not burnt..it must have been old oil that they were fried in. Ordered a mini chocolate brownie extreme blizzard and it came very poorly mixed. Basically, hardly any brownies and chocolate and none half way through it. Ordered a mint Oreo mini for my grandson and it came as a cookies and cream!!! How bad is that. My son had a simple vanilla cone and it was long and skinny. I have to say that this is the nicest DQ I have ever been to. Like wow!! The service was great and the restaurant was super clean. Our steak finger basket was piping hot! Everything was fresh and made the experience so great! I love how they even have outdoor seating as an option. This will probably be my new favorite location! This location has a negligently built drive through. The drive-through is extremely narrow. Our poor son scraped the side of his new truck just trying to give this location his business. They have had repeated problems with the extremely narrow drive through before and simply do not care at all about their customers. read more

It was another scorching hot day in Austin and I had a craving for ice cream while out running errands. So I pulled in the busy drive thru here. It's been years since I've been to this location. The guy taking orders couldn't get my simple order right. A burger? No a large Blizzard. A what? I was yelling it and spelling what I wanted reading it verbatim off the menu and he said he still couldn't hear me and seemed to not know the menu. I repeated it several times and I was starting to think he was playing with me. He didn't know what Heath was and somehow got mini size out of a large. I mean dude who is going to wait in line for 20 minutes and only order a mini drink? I was going to order food as well but just got that since who knows what I'd get. I had turned off my music and was talking loud enough that the cars behind me could hear my order. Crazy! Then I gave him 7$ and he actually asked if I wanted my change or let him have it. Seriously Well after consuming this Blizzard, I have severe stomach pains and digestive issues. Like someone put eye drops or the didn't wash their hands after the bathroom. Avoid this location at all cost . The staff focus on uber eats door dash orders and delivery orders before they actually help the customers in the store. Waited 30 min in line just to have are order taken . Then another 30 min just to receive food . Then they forgot part of my order this was at 9pm on Friday 9/29 . I called the store and the Manager was either unwilling or unable to refund or send the missing items. I grew up in a small east Texas town and Dairy Queen was the first fast food I ever had. In fact for years it was the only fast food I had.. eventually a Sonic moved to town and that changed things up.. but Dairy Queen was still my first love. First off the Taco's you wouldn't think it but Dairy Queen has some of the best crunchy tacos available. You can go to any actual Tex-Mex joint and you're only going to get a taco as good as Dairy Queen. Steak Finger baskets.. not even sure you can get these anywhere else but a chicken fried steak in finger form with white gravy Texas toast and fries is pretty much the best fast food meal you can get. Ice Cream.. I don't need to go on and on about the glory of the blizzard or dipped cones or even debate if Dairy Queen really did invent soft serve because their game is so on point that I wouldn't be surprised if over half of their sales come from soft serve. This particular Dairy Queen location is something special. The employees are the happies fast food workers I've ever encountered. I assume whomever own this particular franchise is paying them well and I'd love to know how they manage to only hire the nicest best people. If I can offer any encouragement to the owners here to pay the employees even more I'll forthright offer up the recommendation now. The employees at this particular Diary Queen make it an experience to behold a true piece of what fast food in the American South should be. So... We have visited this location twice now for a quick family ice cream treat and both times we have been welcomed by the best crew. The team obviously loves their jobs, especially the window rep named Tony. He is so warm, courteous and even took the time to warn us about the rather tight drive thru before proceeding. (No joke this drive thru is the tightest drive thru we've ever seen). The owners and/or managers are doing something right since the team is all smiles! I've never been to a fast food establishment and encountered such great culture behind the counter...we live in Westlake and drive 25 min out of the way to come to this particular location. read more

After all, my goal is to highlight a variety of new places for people to discover rather than to remind them about the ones they already know. However, sometimes there's a grey area. For example, this may look like your ordinary Dairy Queen post, yet it's not. It's me visiting a local family owned franchise of Dairy Queen. What's the difference? Here's some differentiations I noticed: - Customer Service: you'll find that Mayfield DQ's have great ratings on Google Maps, way more than the one's that are corporate owned. I believe it. Because ownership is more involved in the day-to-day, there's incentive to provide a great experience. - Cleanliness: sounds silly right? Upon walking in, this must have been the cleanest Fast Food establishment I've stepped foot into. I couldn't believe it! Nicer interior design too, not just tiles and cheap booths. - Morale: because they want their employees to be happy, they treat them well and that means putting their money where their mouth is and starting them at $15/hr. All in all, next time you want to try something "corporate" but also want to support local, consider going to your locally owned franchise. You pay the same price, but for a better experience. So, what did I get when I came? Blizzards of course! I'm a sucker for trying their monthly/seasonal flavors. WhHispanicwere the: Frosted Animal Cookies, Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, and Nestle Drumstick! All 3 were great in their respective ways and I couldn't tell you which was better as they all matched the flavors of the intended snack. I say get the mini size and get all 3! So frustrated... first, caught attitude, complete with an eye roll, from chic at the window when I asked for ketchup and napkins. And then it was topped off when I got home to find she gave me a sweet tea (*gag*) instead of Diet Dr Pepper to drink. For an update. It only took less than 24 hours after writing my initial review for one of the owners partners to contact me. This is normally irrelevant but the way that Eric went about it was amazing. He Thanked me for my bad review because that is how they learn about issues that need to be addressed. He was very thankful and welcoming for me to return without being pushy or like most companies who dont even take the time and or are rude treating you like nuisance. He did his job extremely well. Oh DQ ... how I love thee so. My heart really felt a loss during that period where so many DQ restaurants shut down about 10 years ago. A few years ago it seemed some other stores were opening back up in areas where you were missed. When I moved to Austin 4 years ago I was super excited to discover this particular DQ location in my neighborhood. I have been here many times since my discovery. I have dined in a few times and every time I have been impressed with the service, friendliness of the employees and the cleanliness of the restaurant. The food is always awesome! The ice cream is perfect every time too. My favorites are the blizzard .. oreo, snickers, butterfinger or sometimes I will try the blizzard of the month for fun. I also enjoy the chicken strip basket and steak finger basket. My one issue with this location is the drive thru... it is a little scary. I am lucky that I have a small car, because anyone with a slightly bigger car is clearly not getting through without messing it up. There is proof on all the poles and concrete wall. Not sure if this can be fixed but it would earn them their 5th star if it was. Anyway DQ - I do love you! I will be back as you are so hard to resist. I am weak to you. read more

OK, you won't admit it, but I will: I DO go to McDonalds occasionally (aka: "DacaMo" to me; dunno where I came up with that). Sometimes that $1 McDouble's just too easy to breeze through & pick up (but always needing more ketchup) & have 'em just throw it through the window. If it's slow enough, & the "McWindowMcCashier's" throwing arm is strong enough, you don't even have to stop; they don't WANT ya to stop, really. There's a chain called "In-n-Out", but DacaMo (pron: "DACA-mo") is really the "Burger King of In & Out" (hey, that's funny!). DacaMo times EVERYTHING, even how long is required to take a (shhh, stopping right there). "Herd 'em IN, move 'em OUT!" I'd NEVER write a review about McDonald's; efficient, but impersonal. They spend millions every year on "research" & STILL find new ways to ruin what started out as perfectly good food. THAT'S as much reviewing as they need or deserve. "OVER ONE GOOGLE SOLD!" by now, I'm sure... I think they just opened one in Antarctica? OK, maybe not; after all, can't squeeze a Million-a-week outta THAT slab o' ice! Not so with Dairy Queen. They ARE quick, to be sure; but the food, & people working there, have a SOUL. The employees actually SMILE at you. They say "Thank You" during your visit, & THEY MEAN IT. I don't have to apologize to THEM, for interrupting their important personal conversation, to say "Thank You" to ME, like I did at Central Market two days ago (YES, I DID; otherwise they'd have gotten through the entire transaction without ever looking/talking to me). I can be obnoxious at times; who knew? EVERYONE, by now. At DQ, I see families, and THEY are smiling! They're not just stuffin' some Happy Horsemeal down their kids' throats and looking sullen while doing so. No, these DQ families seem to actually be BONDING, and enjoying each others' company. What a concept! I don't know if the vibe at DQ's BECAUSE Warren Buffet bought the Company in 1998, or if Mr. Buffett bought 'em BECAUSE he felt it too. No, I wasn't aware of Warren's ownership either, until recently. Seriously, Warren never buys anything, regardless of whatever else he likes, unless he likes the BASIC BUSINESS MODEL. If he likes DQ, THAT should tell ya something. The best is seldom the biggest; that's because they're trying to be GOOD, not LARGE. The reasons why I LOVE DQ are easy to list: Great food; it has feel of "Old-Fashion-ness". I'm always torn 'tween Chicken Strip Basket (even better since last time I wuz in) or Hungr-Buster. It's food that calls to you, w/ fries way better than Ronald's! And does DacaMo have Country Gravy to dip yer fries in? Wonderful frozen stuff! They innovated so many cold treats that some folks come only for that. My fave? French Silk Pie Blizzard, but that's not enuff; ya gotta throw in some Heath Bar! I almost forgot you Vegans. DQ has Orange Julius (DQ bought 'em in 1987), and among their offerings are some pretty great SMOOTHIES. Always a clean, inviting environment; I've never seen a dirty Dairy Queen in Austin or beyond. That said, Austin franchises DO stand out above the others. And FREE Wi-Fi! Not secure network, but free. And maybe most importantly, HAPPY EMPLOYEES, which explains all the other factors. You can tell that every one of them is happy to be there, and proud to work there. They're not faking it, either. You can try to INSTRUCT courtesy into people, but if they weren't born with that "attitude of gratitude", you can't teach it to 'em. I pity ANYONE who's never learned the simple, easy concept of COURTESY, regardless of their station in Life. The Wealthy are the worst offenders, but I've been around long enough to know wealth doesn't create folks like that; it just AMPLIFIES their poor behavior. Think about it: How many times do ya go through a line & have Cashier NEVER make eye contact, even once? Or even if it IS insincere, utter a "How are you today?" Too much trouble; they're just there to get paid (oblivious to the fact YOU'RE providing the money). How many times are YOU the one saying "Thank YOU" to the clerk, just to give 'em the IDEA, & they reply: "You're WELCOME?!" Thought it was s'posed to be other way around. Don't know about you, but THAT response turns me from just angry to really PISSED! "Welcome THIS!" (Using a "visual aid" here; glad ya can't see it.) No need to gush all over me to make me glad I stopped by; I don't want my shoes all wet. But some simple acts of appreciation are so easy to do, and they DO mean a lot, especially when they're in such short supply these days. Ya want a Happy Box, or do ya want happy KIDS? There's something about the vibe at Dairy Queen that will drive out just a little of that Urban Blight that crept into your psyche today. DQ's maybe easy to overlook, but please don't. Beside the fact that its DQ in all its yummy goodness and the blizzards are a deep breath away from sin, the service is above all others. It's close to our house and where are kids play sports so we are there frequently. They have a tv on the wall that scrolls though pictures of their employees and when they started. Most have been there over 10 years. Who stays in fast food that long if it wasn't a great place to work?? And it shows in their service. I love DQ and I love THIS DQ. read more

This is the dopest location of all dairy queens. The food is superb, the staff is generous, and the place is fantastically clean. From the spacious booth seating, to the ketchup bottles on the tables, this place screams quality matters. You almost forget that you are eating at a fast food joint, here. Some of the new burgers are amazing. Normally, I would snub my nose, but these are flavor packed and huge. The fries are thicker and not my favorite.. But they work. And who can resist a blizzard. This dairy queen is okay compared to others I've been too. The drive thru is really not recommended here, there is a pretty tight space for the actual drive thru because there is some privacy fence area behind the dairy queen and them some yellow pole that makes the turn a bit more difficult. Other than that its in a good location, never really too packed. I always just go for a cone on a hot day since it's been in the high 100's lately a nice cold hawwiian blizzard or a tropical blizzard beat the heat. read more
