I go to Einstein bagels 15+ times a month, I know many of the employees by name. Miranda is one of the nicest and most helpful workers you could ask for and is usually who answers the phones and greets me. I want everyone to know this should be a 5 star review. Unfortunately today a gentlemen named MATT answered the phone and would not take my order, I was confused as this had never happened before. He was rude, did not care about my business and hung up the phone. I feel for the other employees who have to spend time with this man, and I hope his supervisors read this and realize something needs to change. He needs to go back to basics and should never answer the phone. This location has definitely improved their staff and cleanliness of tables. I come here for the breakfast bagels-- my favorite is the Lox bagel sandwich (cream cheese capers, tomato or cucumber). This happened some time ago, but I was too angry about what happened to leave a review at the time. This is one of those "I wish there was a 'no star' option" reviews. I work in a large office building not far from this location in a department with about 50 people that supports our company's 25,000+ employees globally. I got to work for my 5AM shift and discovered that we were going to have to take care of an emergency involving over 2,000 of our company's employees. It was not something that was planned or that we had expected or had the slightest idea would be happening. Due to the nature of the situation, everyone in our department was called into the office and all overtime was approved for several days of 24 hour shifts. In order to support this, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and night time snacks were brought in for several days for everyone. Since I have a corporate credit card, I went to pick up breakfast. I truly do understand that coming into the store and asking for three dozen bagels and a lot of pastries is a huge inconvenience to the store, but I was still a paying customer, not to mention a fellow human being who deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. The gentleman (and I'm being very generous with the term "gentleman") who assisted me was rude and completely annoyed with me from the minute I said I would need three dozen bagels. To my horror, he was the general manager of the store. Not that it would have been any more acceptable for an associate to treat me the way I was treated. With each bagel that he got out of the baskets and put into the slicer, he sighed heavily and banged the baskets back into their places in the cases, acting more like a petulant teenager than a professional. When I politely requested for my bagels to be put into flat boxes so that 50 people weren't pawing through bagels and sharing germs, he rolled his eyes, sighed very heavily, shook his head, and snapped "Fine" and went into the back to get a flat box. He then proceeded to cram three dozen bagels into a single box that is supposed to hold two dozen bagels, flattening them so badly my coworkers jokingly asked if I had been in a car wreck on the way back to the office. Once my bagels were packed up, I said I would also like to purchase some pastries. The manager breathed out "Oh my God" on a sigh and asked me how many I would need. When I told him that I would need a lot, he again stomped into the back to get a flat box for my pastries. Not all of the pastries would fit into the flat box, so he put three of them into a small paper bag. At the register, he put the small paper bag into the bottom of a large paper bag. When I tried to remove the small paper bag from the larger bag to keep my pastries from being smashed, he jerked the bag out of my hand and threw my 6 schmears into the bag, crushing my three pastries. When I said "Please don't throw those on top of my pastries and smash them," he said -with the attitude that would have expected from my teenager- "What? Do you want me to get you new ones?" By this point, I was too tired of being treated this way, so I just told him not to worry about it. I had to ask for plates, napkins, and knives three times. As I handed the manager my credit card -so that he could ring up my hundred dollar order- he said to me, "Next time, save everyone some time and order online." Don't worry, Matt, I'll save everyone a lot of time and take my business elsewhere in the future. For anyone to be treated this way is inexcusable, whether the person is buying a single $2 bagel or a large order of almost $100, like myself. The fact that the person who behaved this way was not only an adult and not a grumpy teenager who hates mornings, but the *manager* of the store, is incomprehensible to me. Please do not patronize this location. The only way the manager is going to learn that people cannot be treated that way is to speak with your business. Or lack thereof. I will never go back into that store, and I have spread the word around my department and office building. Please do the same. read more

This particular branch took over the Noah Bagels we use to love, so after a few years of glaring at it we finally stopped in to give it a try. Boy that was a mistake. Much more expensive than Noah's was, bagels were overdone, and we all got food poisoning. We asked for 3 cinnamon and sugar bagels and we're told "as you can see, we're out of those and it will take 45 minutes to make more". I used to come here weekly and have for over ten years. I also used to buy bagels for corporate meetings. That changes as of today. New cashier decided to make fun of my husbands name by calling him a doormat; and the manager made some off remark when I asked if they had any potato bagels (they were sold out of pretzel). The bagels are good but they have one member of their staff who has always been excellent and shown great customer service (the normal register lady with brown hair) love her. She's great. I have been coming here for several years, but lately there service is very bad. Always have to wait a long time to order, another long time to wait for your order, then when you finally get your order most of the tables are not clean. They lack the motivation to hustle get the orders processed is definitely not their priority. I had to go and ask them about my bagel after 20 minutes. For some reason they missed my order even though it was on their screen still to process at 27 minutes and counting. When I talked to Miranda the cashier she did mentioned that she remembered me from earlier and admitted that it had been a long while. She stopped what she was doing to get the crew back there to process my order and it magically got my order under 2 minutes even though they had to start it from scatch. Overall Miranda tried to make it right, but then again it has not been the first time, and for that reason I will not recommend or advise this location. read more

Wow don't believe the negative reviews. Especially the one about high fructose corn syrup...who cares?! The smog that person breathes will probably do them in before any corn syrup will. And the rude staff comments couldnt' be further from the truth. I have never encountered rude staff here. In fact that staff is VERY friendly especially this one gal who's in there on Weekday mornings. Then there's the complaint about the fact that they asked him if he wanted his bagel toasted?! Very disappointed.... I love Einstein Bro's Bagels, but this one I'm not a fan of. I have been here twice (I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt). However, both times I had slow service and was in general unimpressed. The seating inside is overly cold and uncomfortable, loud and not fun to be in. The second time I went here I got it to go and they forgot to pack it up to go. So when I got to my car (yes -- eating in my car was better than the environment inside!) it was already cold and the cheddar cheese on my breakfast sandwich was gross and hard. And this was on a warm day! It is not worth the drive or the price to eat here again. Also, the parking is difficult to maneuver here so if you have a truck or a larger car be warned. read more

Einstein Noah Restaurant Group is the parent company for both Noah's Bagels and Einstein's. Other than the branding, there is no noticeable difference between the two. Breakfast fix: I was driving around early this morning and a nice bagel thin sandwich sounded like it would hit the spot. I ordered bagel thin with egg white and turkey sausage. I got home before I checked it which I knew was a mistake and they forgot the turkey sausage. This is the second time that has happened. I didn't call the first time, but I did call today to make them aware, because I know I was charged for that piece of protein. I will go back, but will definitely check my order before I leave. They're good if you don't really think of them as bagels. They are not anything like the real kettle-cooked and baked bagels that you get in NY. They are puny, have no rise to them and no "bite" like when you rip a bagel. (You know that "skin" they have?) We've been searching for about 6 months since we moved here. When you talk about the Portland area, keep in mind that almost all the food is overpriced. They use the word "artisan" here like they use water, slapping it onto every vendor and product just to inflate the price. In most cases, the product is substandard and overpriced. What I will say about Einstein Bagels, they do deliver an "artisan" bread product with a whole in the center, but it's definitely not a bagel. They offer a quality baked product with several trendy selections, similar to Panera. Tasty, yes; but a bagel, definitely NO. Yet I do recommend them as a tasty breakfast roll. I don't know if you'll find any closer unless you go to a real mom & pop bakery that will probably charge you $3-$4 each and still not get it right. read more

I wanted to love this place but it just didn't happen. There is a cash register at both ends of the counter, I walk up to one end and this guy takes my order and then tells me to go to the other end of the counter and pay, which I do. Then I stand there as 5 people run around behind the counter and eventually just because I'm staring at them for a few minutes one of them comes over to me and asks if I need to pay for a bagel. This is the same person who I just gave my money too. I explain that I just paid and need my coffee cup and bagel which they then quickly give me. The thin bagel wasn't bad, a nice chewy bagel without being to bready. They were also sold out of quite a few bagels pretty early in the day. The coffee wasn't bad and wasn't good either, a solid meh, I've had better. The chewy chocolate cookie was horrible, it tasted like it had been on display for a week, it was stale and tasted of powered sugar and cocoa powder. I took one bite cringed and tossed it. read more

The bagels we wanted were not out except for two that were burnt. When we asked for some that were not so dark, the manager acted like there was something wrong with us. "Oh, OK. Would these be OK for you?" She was sarcastic, rude and should not be running a store let alone work in one. We like the bagels and have been putting up with this behavior for too long. Okay so I work right down the street and been here a couple times. I used to love Einstein Bagels but after coming to this location a couple times I wont go back. The reviews are right, they are often out of bagels. My issue with this location is the customer service. The girls working here are rude on 3 separate occasions. #1 - Two girls took a long smoke break and had one employee working behind the counter alone. There was a long line and she was visibly under pressure. I get it she was frustrated and took it out on the customers. While I was waiting for my bagel a customer advised her that the coffee machine was empty on the counter. The employee rolled her eyes and said she would get to it but didn't even bother giving the customer eye contact. (disrespectful!) #2 - I came in on a Monday to buy a bagel. I noticed they had a $6 deal for 12 bagels. I asked a lady with long blonde hair (the one that took the smoke break) what did the deal all include. She was clearly annoyed I asked such a question. She was vague and provided horrible customer service. She is not friendly or polite at all. #3 - Today I went in again because a got a coupon for a free beverage with a purchase of a bagel. I showed her my coupon and she instantly said "it doesn't include large drinks... I THINK... " Well, she should know or find out! SO I ordered a medium hazelnut late iced drink. The woman at the front counter starts making me a hot drink which I told her I wanted an iced coffee. The blonde girl (the same one in the other two scenarios) rolled her eyes and mumbled something. My coffee was disgusting and undrinkable. It tasted like it was all milk a small amount of coffee. It had no flavor and was not sweet at all. I know for a fact she did not make the coffee correct. The food is good. I think that's why people tolerate this location. I have been visiting this place for a few months now, hoping feedback submitted by other customers would result in changes. Not the case. So here is my one star review with details of things I have experienced. 1) A cashier was questioned about a cup she handed to a customer. The cashier hastily grabbed the cup and attempted to throw it in the trash. She missed, then sarcastically handed the customer a new cup with a smile. 2) The female manager appeared to be annoyed by a customer. The manager appeared to display friendly service but when the manager turned away from the customer, the manager rolled her eyes and very noticeably displayed how annoyed she was. 3) The employees do not clean the knives used to cut the sandwiches. So inevitably, you end up with a variety of undesirable shmears on your sandwich. 4) The male manager seems to always be disgusted at the fact that he works there. His demeanor makes things very awkward for customers. 5) The staff does not seem to be able to work efficiently. When its busy, they seem to fall behind so quickly and the wait becomes incredibly long. I don't blame the staff however. You can clearly see that management has done an incredibly poor job of training them. I am perplexed as to how many times they have been out of coffee and have refused to make fresh coffee after 3pm. In closing, there is a lot that needs to be fixed at this location. Any chance I get, I go to the Bridgeport location. Not only is the service more pleasant, it is much much faster.
