Came in for breakfast today. Got the Nova Lox bagel sandwich. Kind of pricey ($7). Bagel was alright. It had lox, cream cheese, onions, tomatoes, and capers. Capers were really salty, which didnt help because lox is already salty. But, it was pretty filling for a breakfast bagel. Inside, tables are self-seating, but this seems to be a problem. When I tried to sit down at a table, I noticed most places were rather dirty and when I finally found a cleaner place, I still had to clean it up before sitting. So, I had decided not to post this review right away because I wanted to wait until after the weekend to see if corporate would repond to my email I sent them on Friday. We'll, disappointingly they did not respond, so here we are. Maybe this will get someone's attention over at Einstein's. Email sent to corporate read: "Decided I was going to treat my hard working crew today with a dozen bagels. Walked from our shop location over to yours and hand picked a dozen bagels and cream cheeses. Handed the clerk a $100 bill (literally the only thing that I had on me, since I walked over and didn't take my wallet)... And I was told I that they could not accept my payment. Frustrating to say the least, not to mention they didn't seem to care much when I told them I had no other payment on me. Compounded by the fact that I walked to your location and had wanted to reward my staff for a hard weeks work... Wouldn't accept my cash payment??? Just plain unacceptable - and what was worst was that no real apology, compromise or solution was presented. I run a small automotive repair shop and I would never let a customer leave unhappy. I would always present a solution (at minimum). We frequent your establishment quite often and this is one of those instances that has now soured my future decisions on whether or not to purchase your product. I hope that this complaint is taken seriously, corrections/training are performed and that cash payments will be accepted in the future. read more

My readership should know I really like Einstein's Bagels. It's a nostalgia thing for me, and if you don't know about their awesome shmears, I feel sorry for you and you should go there ASAP. This is a chain. Costco used to have their bagels but now they carry Bruegger's Bagels. (Ewww.) (Just kidding, who doesn't love bagels.) We went in because they offered me $1 off on a lox bagel, but somehow their machines weren't working so we received a free coffee instead. (Score.) Vanilla hazelnut is bomb diggity. If you're like me and like the smells of these things but not the taste, this coffee is for you! We decided to sit on the patio on this cozy 90 degree morning. It wasn't too bad with the hot coffee and toasted bagels. The bagels definitely rival my favorite bagel place, Julie's Cafe in Diamond Bar, but is definitely a close second for me, even with the current Yelp rating. The bagels are not as large as the Costco ones, which is a welcome thing considering you're eating a whole bagel (equal to four slices of bread). Everything was pretty standard about the bagel in terms of ingredients, nothing slimy or old tasting. Enjoyed it very much. Will be back! Restaurant can get kinda crowded so I would somewhat expect that you'll have to sit outside in the morning if you don't get there early. SHMEAR!! read more

The experience at this store has been declining for some time. The staff doesn't properly ring in your order and they generally seem miserable. However, last week, I had an experience so poor that I won't go back to this location ever again. I walked up to the counter to place my order. The manager was at the register and gave no greeting, just stared at me. Finally, I asked "are you ready for my order?". I gave my order and while he struggled to find the right buttons for the food, I entered my phone number into the keypad to pull up my rewards, as I usually do. He got angry and said "Don't do that." Apparently, there's some system issue that causes problems. Obviously I wouldn't know that though. Then, after explaining why the system isn't working right, he asked me to swipe my credit card. The keypad obviously wasn't ready yet because it said "Waiting on server", but he told me to swipe anyway. I used ApplePay and not surprisingly, nothing happened. He said it was an issue with my card, though it clearly wasn't. He asked me to try my credit card instead. The keypad still said "Waiting on server", but he told me to swipe my card anyway. Again, obviously, it didn't do anything. He asked me if I had cash and got aggravated that I didn't. Then he said "well, I guess it'll be on the house" in a dismissive manner. I also wasn't the only one in line at the time. There were several people behind me, who weren't acknowledged or even addressed until after they completed my order and I was walking out of the store. Clearly the manager was having a bad day, but this store has been declining over the last few months and even though I got my order for free, I'll never go back to that location again. I gave two stars because I really love Einstein's bagels. It's just a shame that the experience is so different between locations. I recommend the one in Mission Viejo. Food: - Cappuccino and latte are the only things i have tried. both the latte and cappuccino had too much foam and very little coffee.. it feels like drinking milk foam with a hint of caffeine. totally disappointed. - they have tons of bagels with different flavors. the sesame one ran out faster than the rest. the bagels look pretty good but some didnt look so appetizing or fresh. maybe leftovers from yesterday?! - different flavors of spreads are available to buy to go as well. might be a good idea to buy it and eat it with breakfast toast perhaps.. If I could give them less than one star I would. The first time I came to this location I had my service dog with me, she doesn't wear a vest due to a skin condition. I walked in with my dog and was asked to leave with her, I explained that she was a service animal, and two of the three young employees (I'd say ladies but they did not conduct themselves in such a manner to warrant such a title) huddled together behind the display case, well within earshot, where they proceeded to dissect whether or not my dog was a service animal, what handicap I may have had, or if I was lying. I'm epileptic. Two more times since I have sent my friends to this location to procure bagels for me, as I do not wish to be shamed again and it's the closest Einstein's to my house, and both those times my friends, who are members of the military and show up on uniform, are treated with such disrespect. Most recently my friend (brett) went to this location at 9 am on Christmas Eve morning, where he was told they did not have any blueberry or spinach bagels and they refused to make more, and then refused to make change from a $50 bill for him. Keep in mind this location is in an office/affluent area and shouldn't have a problem giving out just under $25 in change. Over all, go to LITERALLY ANY OTHER einsteins location. These little bullies behind the counter will go out of their way to ruin your day and give you shit service. read more

Best bagels hands down. They are not dry, too thick nor dense. I have been to a few locations and this one is my absolute favorite one. I'm so frustrated. The point of a lox and cream cheese bagel is that it is an open faced bagel. In all the wisdom of Einstein Bros Bagels they have decided to eliminate the box that the bagel is served in and squish it all together and wrap it like a sandwich. Consequently; it has to be unwrapped, taken apart and reconstructed by hand to eat it. This is impossible while driving, next to impossible while at my desk (think smoked lox covered fingers caked in cream cheese and the clean up). I don't eat bagels very often. Back in my younger days, I used to love them and liked to try the different flavors! It sucks that when you get older, you really have to watch out for calories, carbs, sodium, etc., etc! However, on those rare occasions where: 1. I didn't eat dinner the night before 2. I had to work at 6:30 am 3. I desperately needed something to eat that would tie me over until lunch.... I did make a stop here because I didn't feel like buying a pastry from Starbucks, they were open early, and it was located close to work. The bagels were always fresh and very good! I always thought the bagels were on the lighter side and not as thick compared to other bagel shops. Their cream cheese, which is called "shmear", was awesome as well. Tasted just like regular cream cheese, but with a whipped cream feel to it! Customer service here was never really the best, kind of depended on who was working. Some of the employees were friendly. Some of them liked to ignore customers, make us wait long in line, or didn't even thank us for our business. Hopefully they will improve on that some day. It was very busy when I walked in this morning but thankfully I ordered ahead. I stood by the pick up counter for no less than 5 minutes just waiting for an employee to make eye contact with me. FINALLY someone looked up at me but quickly looked away, I motioned that I had a pick up and she said "the pick up register is closed. we only have one register" and motioned me to get in the long line. No, thank you. I walked out and left. It would have been nice if they would have mentioned this to me right away so I didn't waste my time standing by the pick up counter. Someone please train these employees on customer service. Is it too much to ask for a greeting when you walk in the door and some direction if the pick up register is closed? I went there last Saturday morning. There were so many people! The cash register person was nice. One of the employee was so mad because somebody spill the coffee. I understand her frustration but she was complaining super loud. I felt little uncomfortable. The coffee is always good and the bagel in the Saturday morning is always good. Sure, the corporate chain bagels aren't the best, but certainly cannot be all that bad to merit such a low reputation. Turns out their reputation is a bad one for service, mostly, and I learned that firsthand myself this morning. I come in for the special Mother's Day bagel orders -- heart-shaped bagels -- because of an email from corporate saying today is the only day to obtain them. Email hadn't mentioned preordering whatsoever, but apparently that is what you need to do to get them. I was a bit annoyed but that became exaserbated when the manager decided to school me on how he is unable and will not make heart-shaped bagels in their 30 different options because that would not make sense for business. Fact is that whether preordered or not, the special offer is explicit that the bagels only come in 3 flavors -- not 30. Not sure why they couldn't pre-make some bagels in just the 3 kinds, but whats the point of making up things to argue. I don't usually write a review on bad service, just bad food. But it looks like this Einstein's doesn't remedy their solid reputation for bad service. I have only been here 4-5 times, service has never been great but not as bad as today. Felt rushed to make my order and staff were unhelpful. Bagels are okay. Service aside, their bagels probably get a B-. Coffee is cheap and tastes like it too. I've been in 3 times now, and have to say I prefer it to bruegger's bagels. The ingredients are oh so fresh, service is super fast and friendly, and it's decently priced! Love the classic lox and bagel w/ salmon and capers. Although...I prefer more tomato, less onions and capers BUT it's still delicious! They also have thin bagels, which are a nice alternative since bagels are seriously a lot of carbs. Got the egg thin bagel, and also the mushroom, spinach and cheese thin bagel. I love this bagel shop. I definitely love it more than bruegger's. I usually come in late afternoon and the selection isn't the greatest, but there is always something. I have yet to be disappointed with any of their bagels or the bagel sandwiches. The coffee is also good. It is also self serve and free refill, unlike their counterpart bruegger's who has the coffee behind the counter. I am super obsessed with Fall and I try to cling of to anything I can during fall since CA doesn't have seasons and this place has the pumpkin bagels out in the beginning of September. HALLELUJAH. bruegger's did not.. boo. The pumpkin walnut crunch bagel is super yummy. The regular pumpkin bagel and schmear is also amazing. I love their everything bagels! I only wish there was everything on both sides. I give this place a 4 only because of the service and lack of options when I come (not always their fault since I come right before closing). Well, I have gone back to see if the customer service has improved and am impressed. Today was my second time in my attempt to have my mind changed and the same girl was there both times. I feel bad I did not get her name, but she IS RAD. Pretty, longish straight dark hair is my best description. She came over after I wasnt very happy about hearing that they are discontinuing my chicken salad, and had a wonderful conversation with my husband and I. I went here this morning before work and let me tell you, if you're in a rush, don't bother! There were 6-7 workers behind the counter. The coffee maker was overflowing on the table, coffee everywhere. It took them over 10 min to get me my bagel with cream cheese, not even toasted! I don't know what anyone behind the counter was doing but running in circles. The only person doing stuff was a tall guy with a red beard. I've been shopping in this shopping plaza for years and I've FINALLY tried this spot! I'm so glad I did! It was pretty busy on a Sunday morning. The whole place was packed with customers and the line was almost out the door. I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese. IT WAS AMAZING... or maybe I just like bagels a little too much. It was packed with just the right amount of cream cheese. My boyfriend had a breakfast bagel sandwich with eggs, cheese, and bacon.. yumm! This is the best place to get bagels. Bring in a bucket for your coworkers, and they will all love you ;) Also, be sure to sign up for their email list because they are always sending out special offers and coupons! The bagels are soft, never stale, and come in a huge variety of tasty flavors. They also have a whole bunch of "schmears" to choose from. My personal favorite is the sun-dried tomato. Customer service here is on par with what you would expect from Irvine (good), but it is a little slow, both in the morning (when many people are stopping in on the way to work) and during lunch (when there is barely anyone there). If you love McDonald's breakfast sandwiches and are in the mood for something a little "more", Einsteins offers plenty of options for that too (even for the health conscious). I had a lox bagel here today for lunch. Since it was later in the day, they were out of a lot of the bagels I wanted (whole wheat, everything, etc). Had to settle for a sesame seed bagel. Went here this morning to get a "blueberry" bagel along with a chocolate croissant to go. My gf and I take a bit of the "blueberry" bagel and there is absolutely no taste of blueberries but instead it's raisins, cranberries and cinnamon. I go back and stated that I ordered a Blueberry bagel and told the female at the register that this is not correct bagel and this is the 2nd time in 6 months I got something other than blueberries. This is what she gets the manager, Amanda P. from the back and tells me that what I ordered and received was a "Blueberry" bagel. She gets another bagel from the bin labelled "Blueberry" but cut it open and it does looks exactly what I purchased but the berries inside are not blue at all and are red. I explained to her that blueberries should be blue or purple and not red. I stated possibly it cranberries instead and she slices their Cranberry bagel to show me that the cranberry bagel looks different which it was bright red. She informed me that their bagels are pre-packaged and that each location bakes them. So she just goes off by the package without tasting them. So I asked for a refund and then Amanda, who is the Manager is having difficulties a simple transaction of a refund so I just told her to forget about the refund and left. Even the customer behind me states those don't look like blueberries and like cranberries or raisins. Afterwards I head to Shirley's Bagels and get actual Blueberry bagel and take it to Eisteins to show Amanda what actual blueberries look like. They are are not red, but purple or blue. This location certainly needs to have their customer service revamped or overhauled. In one of those instances, person helping me seems to be out of it. I was buying only half a dozen bagels and was pointing out the bagels I wanted, The guy just picked up bagels I was not even ordering. You can tell since he since he was not even close the bin the bagels I wanted. Sure enough, I checked the bag and the guy gave me plain bagels. I told him I can tell from the bag that they were just plain bagels and wanted something different. He never even looked inside the bag and insisted that he got the order correct. I was not leaving the place until I got my order correct and so one of the ladies behind him intervened and got my order right. This morning, my gift card, purchase over the holidays, has some balance left and actually verified online when I got to the office. As I tried to use the gift card, error showed up on the register. I was not surprised since the $5 free gift card that came with purchase of a $30 gift card never worked. I found the lady helping me this morning patronizing and was trying to rush me out and does not seem to resolve the problem. She did not even give me a receipt and had to come back to ask for it. Great bagel joint in Irvine. I believe they have a bucket of bagels for $13. 12 bagels and 2 choices of cream cheese. It's a pretty good deal to buy for co-workers or a group of friends. My favorite by far is their Lox Sandwich! A little pricey but I love my smoked salmon. read more

It was my first time eating here (I had a coupon for $3 off any lunch sandwich and so had to check this place out). My first attempt failed because I didn't know they close really early. They closed at 4pm and I came around 4:05pm. Knowing that, my second attempt was successful. I chose a lunch panini since that was what the coupon was for. I ordered an ITALIAN CHICKEN PANINI on a multi-grain bread with the side of a POTATO SALAD. The ITALIAN CHICKEN PANINI was spot-on! The panini grilled made the exterior of the bread crunchy (but not too crunchy where it scratches the roof of your mouth). The ingredients that make up the panini--chicken, red peppers, spinach, mozzarella cheese, and this sauce that put it all together--were cooked nicely and was hot/warm to the taste. I am a big fan of all the ingredients, maybe that's why I loved this panini so much. Even after I realized how many calories the entire sandwich made up, I didn't care! The POTATO SALAD was alright. I've had better, but at the same time it wasn't bad. I'm happy with almost any potato salad. Hahaha. I come here on a weekly basis in the morning to meet up with some friends over coffee and bagels and this Einsteins is the perfect place to do that! Plenty of seating makes it a great place to come by yourself, with a friend or two, or with a group. On a nice day, I recommend sitting outside. Not too loud and occasionally there are a couple of ducks that hang out there looking for some bagel crumbs. I pretty much stick to the same script each time I come which is the mushroom and asparagus egg white thin on the everything bagel, toasted. This is one of their healthiest options on the menu so I never feel weighed down or guilty after eating it. I order the thintastic bundle which includes a medium coffee with my sandwich. Their coffee is decent, not great, but it does the job, especially when it is paired with my bagel sandwich. They have a myriad of creative bagels including the Jalapeno cheddar, chocolate chip and other flavors, so if you like trying new bagels, you can do that here. Expect loooong lines if you come on a Saturday or Sunday morning when the place is packed to the max. Much shorter lines on a weekday morning. You can also come her to study if you like, but there are no outlets if you need to plug in your laptop or cell phone which stinks. Still, I've come here a couple times to start my studying session and then if I need a charge, I'll move over to the coffee bean located in the same plaza. read more
