Volcano Fries with chicken....nuff said. You gotta try this delicious twist on nachos. Elevated!!

The food is good but their prices have gone up considerably since we were here last. No prices on the menu so we went ahead and ordered. $80 for 3 lunches is ridiculous for basically chicken and rice plus there is no seating besides picnic benches.... The wind kicked up so we had to ask Subway next door if we could come in and eat. They did offer half orders, if the prices were on the menu we definitely would have done that. read more

Horrible Customer Service Experience directly from owner; Never visiting again: I have been picking up dinner from Ekahi Grill in Gypsum about every month or two for about two years now. The food has always been good, the cashier at the front has been very friendly, and I enjoy supporting local businesses. For those reasons, I am very dissapointed to share that this business lacks any integrity and does not value its customers. On February 4th, I ordered online as typical. I ordered a full plate and a half plate. I arrived at the pick up window. The cashier came over with my order: Holding the full plate in a styrofoam container on the bottom, with the a plastic container for the half plate on top and no bag. As the cashier handed it over the window, and I grabbed the styrofoam container on the bottom by both sides, the stryofoam container immediately collapsed inwards and one of the fish sticks in the plate fell out. The cashier applogized and got tape to tape the top shut. He said do you need anything else and I picked up the fish stick from the ground to hand it to him for the trash. Then, I said asked if he could remake the fish stick and said I could come back in a few minutes to get it. He said to hold on and went and talked to somebody in the back, who I then learned was the Owner (I believe her name was Asia, or similar). He said that she said they would remake it, but I would have to pay $2 for the 'extra' fish stick. I explained that they handed me a defective, unproperly packed box and the fish stick fell out because the box was broken. Not after I left, but while I was being handed the food at the counter. He went and talked to her again and that the owner understands, but I still need to pay for the fish stick. I asked to speak to the Owner and was told no, she would not speak with me. I then said that I will be leaving a poor review and never coming back. (and left without the fish stick) For context, these are large fish sticks and four came with the food, so I lost 25% of the main part of the meal. We ordered the volcano chicken platter which comes with rice, salad, volcano sauce and chicken (in style of chicken katsu). The volcano sauce is the bomb (I don't think I ever used this term)! The chicken is crunchy on the outside, there's plenty of rice and salad. Overall an excellent dish. I took one star off as my chicken has a lot of cartilage which I didn't enjoy. read more

So delicious!!! We had various types of bowls and they were all so fresh and so good! I like that they offer a smaller option and ordered a small Build Your Own. It was so amazing I wished I'd ordered the regular size! The volcano sauce is the best!!! Staff were lovely and answered all our questions patiently. I really want to like this place, but they constantly screw up. It's not like they have 50 orders going at once. This time there were 3 people. All I wanted was NO chives, that's it. 3 of the last 4 times, chives. I give up. I get that food is getting expensive, but for $25 ya get a chicken filet rice and a small salad. Almost $30 after the tip I wish I could have back. I am also bewildered that for a place that claims Hawaiian roots, they still use Styrofoam, which by the way is banned in Hawaii. When you walk in the first thing you see are two signs on the Coke machine "NO REFILLS" Not much for ambiance. They have really good recipes, especially if you like spicy/sweet. My go-to is their valcano chicken fries. They typically can get small orders done in ten to fifteen minutes depending on the situation. They are a small order to go/eat outside (picnic) place, neighboring a sandwich shop so if you aren't all about Hawaiian then you have more options read more

Im so over this place. It was great about 10 yrs ago until one of the sisters moved back to Hawaii. Just tried to order some food at the counter for half plate . I had the most perfect lunch in the mountains. The owner was super cool and the food was fresh and made with love. I had the shrimp with both the volcano and the other sauce...yum! Ordered the Ahi Poke bowl from the truck at the Avon, CO July 3rd event. There were issues with being able to pay. We tried Apple Pay and it refunded me. We tried again and it didn't show it charged. So I did Venmo and it worked. The next day I see I was charged on Apple Pay. I paid $32 for an ahi bowl. Not sure I can be refunded as I live in Utah. Worst customer service I have you ever experienced hands down. Ordering online automatically set your location to the wrong store. So when you try calling immediately 4 times! to cancel the order and set it up at right location. Finally I get some punk on the phone right out of the gate with a horrible attitude. I tell him the situation tell him I've tried calling 4 times. Tells me their nothing he'll do for me and refuse to refund anything or help out in anyway. Ok that really suck already. I am not sure what happened to the Ekahi girll that I grew up with but there seems to be a consistency lately of horrible customer service not trying to make it right for the customer the first time they got my order wrong and by the time I got home and noticed it I was just going to suck it up and eat what they made me. I did not end up liking it so I did call them and let them know that I live in Eagle and I just got home and I didn't get what I ordered so they told me to come back and instead of remaking my order, they just give me the sauce that the original order was supposed to come with therefore when I get back home, my chicken is already cold. I am not one to write reviews so I let that one go and I just reheated my chicken in the microwave but today I ordered online which I haven't use their online system I've always called. I ordered my regular volcano chicken and I ordered the plate but I did not want a salad so I clicked on a different side which was rice and Mac. I entered the store to get my order and the gentleman upfront was not nice because the system put four sides, clearly there is only enough for two sides and I proceeded to tell I was sorry I did order the rice and Mac and he did not like my answer because he already put rice and rice so he proceeds to walk back to the kitchen and was saying stuff under his breath. I said excuse me and he said louder to next time just only order one not two I did continue to apologize and I said it was a mistake. Clearly there is only room for one option and he gives me a side of macaroni salad in a tub. I told him that he could keep it since it's an inconvenience for him to try to make the order right since it was not my fault it was the systems fault, nothing I did was intentional I apologized, but he still was rude so I am done trying to go to a place that is expensive and get horrible customer service at the end of the day. read more

Loved this place in the past. But hiding behind inflation, they charged $75 for three styrofoam plates with three scoops of rice each and a scoop of meat. No sauce. No veggies. Nothing. Wow wow wow! So ono that I'll be making excuses to drive west to visit this place more. Hands down, the best Hawaiian food in the state thus far, and I've been to a bunch here in the Denver metro area. This is some real deal grindz from a real deal local. So, how did we find this place?? Well, wife and I were headed to Glenwood Springs for a little weekend getaway. After an I-70 closure and a nearly two-hour detour, we were starving. Wife checks Yelp for food nearby and Ekahi is right there like a beacon of light. We head to this little restaurant which is not far off the freeway and in a mixed-use building, tucked behind a carneceria. Very easy parking which is always great. What I really liked right off the bat was the creativity in the menu. It's not just chicken katsu or teri chicken, but there are several varieties such as the Maui Chicken which takes katsu chicken and drenches it with a sweet and savory sauce. Never had anything like that before and it was likely a family recipe. Then there's the Kauai Chicken, marinated then fried and served with a spicy, sriracha and chili oil sauce for dipping. I think they use rice flour or maybe mochiko flour? I don't know, but it was so crunchy and perfect. The sauce offered great balance and plenty of kick. They also have all the good stuff...loco moco (or katsu moco), teriyaki beef, short ribs, kalua pork with cabbage, North Shore shrimp and legit looking poke bowls. They even offer desserts like a guava cheesecake pie! Didn't get around to that though since I ate wayyyy too much chicken. Maybe next time. I think the only complaint we had was that the rice was a little mushy. It happens sometimes when you're using the big restaurant cookers, so no big deal. The housemade mac salad was different than what you get from plate lunch places in Hawaii, def a little more love and care in that stuff. Could've used a larger scoop though! When ordering...they offer a half and full-size plate option. We each went with full because it comes with mac salad instead of just rice. Price might seem a little steep, but the plate weighs about 5 pounds. And unlike the cheap places, most of that heft was fresh, hot, ono chicken. Absolutely worth every penny and could easily have been split into 2 meals. Next time, we'll probably do half plates and side of mac salad to share. We will 100% be back!! read more

So glad to see them in the up alley. My wife and kids love their chicken katsu. Always their go-to meal. I love their katsu moco. The chicken is Krispy Tender! The volcano chicken and fries are legit! You'll get addicted. Pokè hits the spot. When you need a little snack for your hike, grab a few musubis. I suggest calling in during lunch hours. We got a poke bowl and the Maui chicken and they were both so so good. Really delicious. I want to express a gripe that I've never experienced at any other restaurant... I understand that prices are volatile. But my only price reference was from a two year old menu. The half plate of chicken on that menu was $8.95... I expected a bit higher. It's now $13.95 But there's no way to find a menu on their website with any prices. I've seen this before with fancier places and has frustrated me. I typically go to Yelp to find menu pictures with prices and have some luck. Not only no prices online but the menu board has all the prices covered up. So the only way to get pricing is to walk inside, ask the cashier, and be surprised. You're trapped at that point. And with prices being up 50% in two years, I think that's disingenuous. I don't think the owner means poorly or is trying to deceive. But I wanted to point it out and hope he sees this. read more

I love stopping here on my way to Costco. The meals are vary good - whether you go teriyaki, loco moco, spam musubi or more. The owners are more than helpful if you get confused. First off, the Maui chicken was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Crispy and crunchy on the outside and all around tasty. Having grown up in Hawai'i, I know what to look for in Hawaiian BBQ restaurants. And while I understand that the current economy has changed a lot of things, $20 for a plate seems a bit steep. Looking at a previous review, this is up $6 just two months ago! Mac salad isn't included (the way it is at other establishments), but once again, nothing to gripe too much over... except not only was the flavor not anything to write home about, it also had a strange green color, and this was in September, not on Saint Patrick's Day. The Spam musubi looked good, and it was kept nice and hot. However, after unwrapping it, it was so bland -- the seaweed, the spam, and even the extra sauce that they dripped onto the rice. I am not one to waste food, but this was so terrible that after two bites, I threw the rest of it away. If you're traveling through town and looking for a place to eat, I would suggest getting just the Maui chicken, if anything, and no other sides or anything. And at the way prices are increasing, be prepared to cough up $25 or more. As for me, I will look elsewhere no matter how hungry I am read more

We got a bento box (it had fish, shrimp, and katsu chicken), egg rolls, and kalua pork and cabbage, it was enough for 2 meals for 2 people, and everything was delicious! After this one of our poke bowls was the wrong sauce and there was a plastic trash wrapper in my poke. Cashier too stoned to take order. Like she doesn't look okay to work at all. Just passing by Gypsum during a Colorado road trip and we stopped here. Then we stopped here again on the tail end of that same trip because it's just that good! We had the Loco moco, the Maui chicken, and the fried fish. All three were very tasty but that fried fish was freaking transcendent! The perfectly fried mahi mahi, panko breading, that delicious sauce that came with it...it was so good we had to buy 2 more pieces! Good-sized menu and portions. Kid's meals and half orders available. Bubble tea and desserts. And the family that owns it is so darn friendly! Better Hawaiian food here than I've had on Oahu! I have never seen or heard of a Hawaiian restaurant ever before in my life, and to come across the first one ever in the heart of the Rocky Mountains definitely piqued our curiosity! We got takeout - I had the north shore shrimp, husband got Maui chicken, we shared volcano fries, and tried the pokê. The volcano fries were the bomb! Just enough spice and cheesiness. The north shore shrimp was good, the chicken was good too. The white rice was sticky and tasty, and the pokê was nice as well. I will be back to try the Oreos. :-) read more
