Just went to El Amigo again and am super impressed as usual. They have the best cheese enchilada in town, even though they are famous for their crunchy tacos ( had one of those too ) The place is not fancy but the food is great and the staff is very nice and it is super clean ( thats big with me . ) The breakfast dishes are really good too. Favorite burrito is the green pork chile . Fajitas ( shrimp ) is great too ! You cant go wrong at El Amigo ! read more

O'FAITHFUL..... I've been to this place for several years, and its like an old faithful friend. Went their tonite just before church. Its a hole in the wall and its looks are not that great, but the food is good. It has patio dining but I always go thru their funky drive thru. Positive: * the HARD SHELL BEEF TACOS are just packed with MEAT, they're loaded with lettuce and cheese and are way better than most wanna-be mexican restaurants in the area. I've been going to El Amigo for years. I was also surprised to find out my favorite Mexican food joint was under new management, but I honestly don't understand all the negative Yelp comments with this change. I thought the service was friendlier and more efficient. The overall vibe that I get from eating here was much livelier, brighter, and cleaner. And most importantly, the food was noticeably BETTER. I usually order the street tacos & wet burritos here, still delicious. I can tell the ingredients they used are fresh. I don't leave too many Yelp reviews, but thought I'd chime in with my thoughts on the management change. Our favorite cheap authentic restaurant! You must have the chili relleno & chicken tacos. You can get dinner for less than $6.00! Good Stuff Used to eat here all the time back in the day. I order the same thing every time Bean & Cheese Burrito and a hard shell beef taco. I finally had a chance to go to El Amigo with my girl. She lives literally across the street. The service was fast...In fact, the service was so fast that the carne asada in our burritos was cold, indicating it had been sitting in a pan on one of the burners for a long time before they slopped it into our tortillas. But the meat was good, even though it was cold. The food was exactly the way we ordered it. I asked for extra cheese in both my bean and cheese and my carne asada burritos, and both came LOADED with cheese. WOO HOO! The burritos were HUGE too! The beans were the best I've had since I moved away from San Diego in April. My girlfriend gave one thumb up for her carne asada burrito, which is a good thing. The prices were very reasonable for the portion sizes. I would recommend El Amigo to anyone with a huge appetite who wants to receive exactly what they order. read more

I've had the best Chili Relleno here! A limited amount of them are prepared daily so make sure to get them before they run out. It's stuff with chewy mozzarella cheese. First thing first, tried this place for the first time and it was delicious, unfortunately I went during dinner rush hour so food took a little longer..I am bilingual and I unfortunately understood everything that was yelled at to one of the cashier's, hopefully she is ok. Have lived basically next door to this place for three years and have never tried it. My wife and I had a taco craving at 10pm on a Sunday and didn't want to go to Alberto's down the street because I don't want to spend thousands of dollars for a couple tacos. Called in my order and arrived 5 minutes later. Pleasantly surprised they had a drive through as it was raining. Order was waiting for me, hot and fresh. I ordered 4 shredded beef crispy tacos and rice and beans. Price was $12, so basically $2 an item. Not bad. Rice and beans were great, but really they SHOULD be, right? Not too hard to make those. We loved the tacos, and my only criticism would be they were under seasoned. But we can live with that. Food arrived proper packed and hot. It was was very good. Meat was tasty and well cooked. Chile Rellenos were large with lots of cheese.

We had been going to the original El Amigo since the early 80's. It changed ownership for the second time and unfortunately they didn't keep the original recipes that were amazing. The food is NOT GOOD. any more and I'm very sad and will never go there again. read more

When I was a kid and we lived in La Verne, my mom worked at the hospital around the street from El Amigo. She would bring home burritos for my sisters and I sometimes and we got hooked. My sister who's a vegetarian would get the wet bean and cheese burrito, sometimes with rice and sour cream or guacamole, other times just bean and cheese. Its become one of my absolute favorites The sauce for the wet burritos is like nothing else I have ever tasted at any other place. There is a slight sweetness to it that's absolutely amazing. Excellent with chicken or carne asada but I love the bean and cheese only. Their other food is great too! When I lived out of state, I desperately tried to find that wet sauce and I never did! Is there a half star rating? I should have realized all of the reviews were not recent...Guacamole is liquid and flavorless, carnitas tastes like cardboard, never realized what that meant until now. Other reviews said best flautas in Los Angeles, I don't know where you've been, but smothering flautas with tasteless guacamole and cheese does not make them great. Crispy was no where to be found. Salsa and rice was standard and the beans were okay. How can you mess up Nachos? Melted Cheese on chips, microwave it or use stale chips that's how and they did. Carne asada was very peppery and couldn't taste any other seasoning. Hardshell beef taco, flavorless and greasy is an understatement. Will we be back? I don't know, what do you think. read more

Should be 5 stars. Whenever we get the need for good Mexican food, 9/10 we go to El Amigo. It's close to where we live and the price range is pretty affordable. Tonight I went in to get dinner for my girlfriend and I. This is the first time in about 3-4 months we've had El Amigo. I go inside and everything has changed. New decor, New menu. Everything looked great and up to date. I was really impressed. But upon asking when they changed the decor, the female cashier was very rude and short with me. Even after the attitude she gave me, I still complimented the look of the place saying "It looks great". Nothing from her, not a thank you or glad you like it. Very unfriendly. She was more inclined to talk to to her coworkers in the back than myself, a paying customer. Maybe some addition customer service is needed to match the food and look of the new and improved dining area. read more

I had been going here for years. I used to love the wet bean and cheese burrito but awhile ago they changed something in their red sauce and food quality had gone down as well. Its been about a year since Ive eaten here. Well today I was driving by and I decided to try it one last time. It was delicious!!!!
