We went here for a late lunch. There's a wonderful beach view to enjoy while you eat or drink. Our server was efficient and friendly. He spoke English well. It's cash only though so be prepared. We started with shrimp ceviche and it was so fresh, absolutely delicious. For entrees, my garlic shrimp tacos were really good but needed a crunch element like cabbage or something for texture. The wife had a piece of mahi mahi and it also was very fresh but because she ordered it grilled it was bit overcooked. The little one had what we would call fish sticks but these were actual pieces of real fish that had been breaded and fried. They were delicious. I would get those for myself. Virtually every leisure beach market in the world has a bar like El Barracuda. Always poppin, great service, widespread English, and a great view. Many spots like this fall short when it comes to the food, but at El Barracuda that's not the case. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Hard to beat the service and atmosphere at El Barracuda. The views are excellent, the service is fast and friendly, and if your Spanish isn't quite up to snuff you're all set with English. One noteworthy thing here is that it's cash only, so keep that in mind. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? As you might expect, you pay a price for the comfort at El Barracuda at least compared to what you'd pay nearby. My three Baja Shrimp Tacos were 196,00 MXP, which came to about $3.20 USD per decent sized taco. That's a screaming deal anywhere in the US, but is pricey here in PVR. Even so, this is great value. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? As I mentioned I wasn't sure what to expect from the food at a spot that puts so much emphasis on their environment and view, but I was pleasantly surprised. My Baja Shrimp Tacos were very good, with some of the better battered and fried shrimp I've had anywhere in the area and some nice accompanying sauces. First, let me say this place is near the ocean. It had a nice ambiance, good music, and lackluster service staff. When we arrived, we were greeted and sat at a table with a Leuschen view. Unfortunately, it was raining that day, and no one paid attention to opening up the umbrella or moving the table back from the rain that was blowing in on the Malecon. The waiter seemed charming initially but was slow to respond to all requests, such as drinks and food orders. My first negative experience was that the drinks were not proportionate to the sweetness of the alcohol-flavored margaritas. My second problem was with the food order. My partner's order came out immediately, but I had to remind the waiter after 10 minutes. Where is mine? I ordered the fish, which was well overcooked, damn near burnt to a crisp, and had no taste or flavoring whatsoever. Other than maturity, the chore that was on the skin char. Nevertheless, we ordered dessert again. My partner's dessert came out within 10 minutes of mine; however, it came out quickly in a 20-minute time. Again, on my first and last visits, I did not recommend this place most of the way; the staff were on their phones, and it looked like a high school masseuse. We stand for young, and we're always on our phones, not paying attention to their tables unless you are a young, hip person. If you're over 40 I do not recommend this place at all. read more

You can't beat the location of El Barracuda. It is right on the beach and there are even tables on the beach. The tide was coming in rather strongly so they had to move some tables back. A group of women were trying to take a photo and were surprised by a big wave. It was great comedy to watch from our table. The food was great and there are plenty of options for every palate. Eventually after back and forth with our server (who is talking to the mgr) they accepted my card. They use a dial-up modem! It took 15 minutes. Ugh. The food here was fair, but we were expecting a bit more from the steak and shrimp. The first weird thing I noticed is that the menu lists the entre as a ribeye, but it didn't resemble any ribeye I've ordered before. It's only about 1/3'' thick in person, so there's a bit of an optical illusion going on in a lot of the pictures, mine included. It's wide, but it's flat like a flank steak with no marbeling. Maybe they somehow fileted a real ribeye into thirds? Anyway, I think this is what caused some difficulty with the way it was prepared. My go-to temp, Medium-rare, came out from the kitchen as seared on the outside, raw on the inside. That's alright for tuna, but not so great for steak. We just asked if they could put it back on the grill for a minute or two and it came back a little warmer. The shrimp side of things was literally three shrimp on top. I don't know what else to say about that, but don't expect too much there either. Anyway, it was no great loss at 560 pesos, but my advice would be if you are expecting a steakhouse quality steak, this ain't it. Go for something else on the menu! read more

I also think the menu is over-priced. There are many other local places (including some with views) where you can pay less for more quantity and quality - and also pay with a credit card. El Barracuda is cash only. They have two kinds of ceviche - so, if interested, be sure to ask about each to get the one you might prefer/like better. The portions are small. This is a cool place, great vibes, good food, crappy drinks. It's busy, abc intimate but it only took us like 5 minutes to get a table. The whole restaurant is on the beach so you get a kick ass view. The chips are those deep fried type and so tasty. They serve it with salsas. One, my favourite, was a chipotle one with some good heat, my husband fell in love with the onion one that is marinated in lime and habenero, they also had a plain tomato one that was just eh. I would recommend putting a little bit of each on a chip and earring them together. We both ordered the jalapeño margarita as it was recommended on multiple review sites. It was bad. It just tasted like celery water. I was so put off that I didn't try ordering another, but my husband saw someone order the barracuda and it looked cool so he couldn't t resist. It came in a big wine glass and was frozen and green. It tasted like a weird kool aid-just all sweet. We had a traditional Cesar salad and man it was excellent. The homemade dressing just rocked my world. It came with some foccaia and butter, which was fine but nothing to write home about. Then we ordered a fish in the white wine mushroom sauce. The mushrooms were bomb a f. The sauce was delicious but the plate could've used a whole lot more of it, don't be stingy man. It came with a side of steamed carrots and broccoli which were just plain steamed veggies. I appreciate adding veg, but at least season them a bit. The whole meal cost us about $40 US. Love this beachfront restaurant! The location can't be beat. Very romantic, but would also work for families since kids can just play in the beach while you eat. Our favorite dish was the Dynamite Seafood - octopus, shrimp, other seafood and rice in a creamy and slightly spicy sauce. You get bread and chips for dipping - feels very decadent. We also loved the al pastor shrimp tacos and the fresh ceviche made with mahi mahi. We noticed there were quite a few steak dishes on the menu, but not sure why you'd go this route when their specialty is fresh seafood. The only reason they get one star was the shrimp tacos and location was decent. Very disappointed in watermelon margarita-small and watered down and flavorless. What was most disappointing though was the fact that the exchange rate was an arbitrary exchange rate in their favor, they only accepted cash, and they did not give us change for our bill so walked away with an unreasonably large tip. There are tables on the sand, but we opted to sit on the deck because we didn't want to be sandy on the plane. They gave us free chips and salsa. The salsa, like all the other places we ate at was great. Boyfriend ordered the shrimp burger. I had the fish tacos and the shrimp cheese quesadilla. Everything was pretty decent, but the best thing we ordered was probably the shrimp cheese quesadilla. If you like cheese, you would like this. I would ditch the tortilla and just eat the shrimp and cheese. LOL There are better tasting places to eat in Puerto Vallarta, but we we're looking for a nicer location for our last meal there. Came here last night after seeing all the good reviews! Our server was very attentive and honest! I had a shrimp casserole as a entree and the flavor was just right! I had a Piña mezcal drink and it hit the spot! After I had their hamburger with fries and it was pretty good had the right texture and flavor although I should've asked them to toast the bun more. Generally, the better the view the worse the food--no exception here. This may be better than most on the beach, but still subpar compared to places we found off the beach. Service was great, view was awesome. We just had beers which were only slightly more $ than further inland -- no complaints there. The food was just ok. Had the guacamole, the aguachillies negro and the grilled shrimp. Had it been my first stop, I'd have said it was 4*. Get off the beach and away from the tourists for much better! read more

This was the very first stop on our trip and set the bar. Great option for those staying at Hotel Grand Paramar as it's right across the street. Limited menu but everything was done well. Honestly the food was pretty reasonably priced for being on the beach and for the quality. It is a popular spot so you may not get to sit on the beach without a wait. The servers were fairly attentive and worked with us to understand some of the menu items, which we really appreciated. I enjoyed their margaritas so never ventured to any other cocktails. read more

CASH ONLY folks! We were scared to death that we were going to a bank a block or so away to get "CASH". We enjoyed the mussels, but the more expensive octopus tasted like cardboard. We've had octopus all over the world, but never this bad. The only thing that saved it was a green sauce on the side. I searched PV for the best polpo, and this was the place. The view is outstanding...especially at sunset. The service was super attentive throughout our dining. We were in a taco tour challenge...we ordered two types of tacos...fish and shrimp. Not into the pumping gringo music. The food was mediocre. I had the El Barracuda fish, or something like that. Ot was bland, boring. The servers were nice enough, though perhaps understaffed, as I had to search them out whenever I needed anything, including the check. Apparently a popular cruise ship crowd destination, based on the wristband-clad goofballs. Just not my vibe. But do go, you'll love it. read more
