    Breakfast burritos

El Caballo Wrap: A Hidden Gem/ mom and pop restaurant in Alameda! Breakfast burrito - $14.50 Fresh guac, sour cream, chorizo, eggs and beans. Idk if I'm just hungry!! But !!! El Caballo Wrap is a total game-changer. I stumbled upon this place while wandering around Alameda, and it's now a regular spot. Their burritos are packed with flavor - the ingredients are super fresh, and they don't skimp on the fillings. What makes them stand out? It's all in the details. The tortillas are perfectly cook eggs and chorizo are seasoned just right, and their salsa selection is on point. Plus, the staff is always friendly and quick, even when it's busy. If you're looking for an authentic and delicious burrito experience, skip the chains and head straight to El Caballo Wrap. You won't regret it! Will be coming back here again.

Needed something fast and sound this whole in the wall. They were so personal and fast! I'm visiting from out of town but if I lived here I would come here all the time! I had carne asada tacos but finished it so fast I forgot to take a picture. So yummy!

Service - 4/5 Food - 5/5 Popped in here midday on Saturday and had a good experience. Quick service and good food. Ordered the carnitas torta and would 100% order this again. We also ordered the bean and cheese Pupusa and cheese and pork pupusa. Both were delicious but I preferred the simple bean and cheese one.

El Caballo Wraps is a small hole in the wall Taqueria on Lincoln Ave in Alameda. The menu is quite extensive though offering every type of burrito imaginable, tacos including snapper fish tacos, fajitas, pupusas, and the list goes on. They were kind enough to let us sample their chicken tortilla soup which was fresh and homemade. While sampling the soup we order one of their special burritos called Super Seafood Burrito. Super Seafood Burrito: at first I was taken back by the total which was $19.88 with tax included. But in defense, burritos on this side of the bay for whatever reason have inflated to that price. I wish someone would tell my employer, I shouldn't have to work so many hours just to buy burritos. But I digress... The burrito was good tasting and every bite had shrimp in it. That makes it a winner in my book. No skimping and good SABOR. El Caballo is definitely a spot to check out for solid Mexican food in Alameda.

We ordered take-out, our meal was ready to pick up quick! I like that it's family-owned we gotta support small eateries. Got a carne asada burrito and a super chicken burrito. I noticed dessert in the fridge under beverages. Impulsively bought Mexican tiramisu and tres leches. The tres leches was SO good!!! There was flan available too, many options! We will be back.

    Pork and cheese pupusas. Amazing!!!!

Just want to express my LOVE of this place again! And love love love the new chicken Al pastor! Soooo good! I'm currently on a keto/low carb diet. My go-to's are the two super tacos with the chicken Al pastor. They load them up! I take them home and scoop them onto my own Keto tortillas and they are absolutely fabulous!!! Also the chicken tortilla soup is the best I have ever had! Great for keto diet (as long as you don't put the tortilla strips in it, and trust me it doesn't need it.). Super hardy with big chunks of chicken and vegetables. Big fan! And as always the staff is amazing and super friendly. They are the best in alameda!

This was one of the only grab and go tacqueria places open on Sunday on Park St. They are smart to close on Monday while the others are open, because I was wondering why all my regular go to places were closed. The interior is pretty updated, and there was virtually no line when I came around 1PM. I ordered a Beef Super Burrito, and I was treated like a local when I'm an ex-local haha. The service and people working there are all very friendly, and maybe assumed we've been before since they started asking some basic ingredients in Spanish (that we didn't understand). The Super Burrito portion size is okay, and I realized there was a lot of guacamole and sour cream compared to the rice/beans/protein. They also have lettuce which I found a bit unauthentic, but I guess you cater to your local audience preferences. The overall ingredient ratio made the burrito a little heavier and wetter than I expected, and didn't exactly feel full after sharing one with my wife compared to other tacquerias where they load up the super burrito. They kinda skimp on the burrito stuffs, and their portions feel more like regular portions instead of saving another half as leftovers. At least they were nice to cut it in half knowing that we'd be sharing.

The food is consistently bland, a lot of it tastes like it was prepared well in advance and reheated, and the overall quality just isn't very good. The main thing it has going for it is that it's relatively affordable. The bigger problem is that the whole place feels neglected. The exterior looks run-down, the property doesn't seem especially well maintained, and the overall atmosphere gives the impression that corners are being cut wherever possible. The service and management have also been strange enough on past visits that it has never felt like a particularly welcoming or well-run restaurant. What finally pushed me to the point where I don't really want to eat here anymore is how often I see the pest-control company servicing the property. I understand that restaurants use pest-control services routinely and that their presence by itself doesn't necessarily mean there is an infestation. But I've seen them here repeatedly, including recently with their vehicle blocking part of the parking lot, and when you combine that with the general condition of the restaurant, it's not exactly reassuring. On my most recent attempt to come here, I saw the pest-control vehicle again and decided I'd rather eat somewhere else. There are too many good Mexican restaurants in Alameda and Oakland for me to keep coming back to a place where the food is mediocre and the overall condition of the restaurant leaves me uncomfortable. I really wish they would put some money and attention back into the food, the building, and the overall operation, because in its current state this place feels like it could use a serious overhaul.

Fast forward to today, my son and his friend frequent this place. After a Sunday full of errands, hunger kicked in, and we were craving Mexican food. My 13 year old suggested we come here. At that moment, I had a choice...drive out to Oakland and find a solid spot or trust my teenager's restaurant recommendation. Risky move, I know lol. Walking in, the place looked just like it did years ago clean, welcoming, and with a friendly staff. The menu? Way bigger than I remember. It had so many options, I started wondering if I needed a strategy guide to order. I just wanted everything cause I was hangry lol. My son swears by their quesabirria, so I took a bite. It was... alright. Wish the shell had that extra crisp or even a cheese crust. The beef? Decent, but could've used more spice and flavor. Maybe dipping it in the consommé would've helped like a plot twist in a bad movie, it might've saved the whole thing just my opinion : ) I went for the steak fries. Now, these weren't your typical carne asada fries with thick-cut fries, sour cream, salsa, and all the toppings stacked on. These were more like shoestring fries, already seasoned, topped with cheese and steak pieces. Not bad, but let's be real I wouldn't have minded a bigger portion. And with shoestring fries, good luck trying to scoop up all the toppings without making a mess in that little food tray lol. Also grabbed a crispy ground beef taco. It was okay, but every time I took a bite, it completely fell apart like my plans to eat healthy. Could've used a bit more seasoning too (taco snob lol) Don't be shy with the flavor. I rather have it over seasoned than bland : ) Alameda doesn't have a ton of taquerias, which is probably why everyone drives out to Oakland to hit the food trucks on International Blvd (aka E-14th for the OG Bay Area folks) Yadadaimean! Would I come back? Yeah, I would. Food isn't bad, and the prices are decent like I'm not breaking the bank here. Solid 3 stars. It's good, but not quite at that 4-star level for me.....Just saying : )
