Normally a good place to eat. Service Today we had reservations that we had made in advance for 14 people, but when we called to adjust the number of people, we were told that they had a meeting and were closed. No one bothered to call us about the change. I feel that it is very inconsiderate to make changes and not let your customers know, so they can make other arrangements. I don't think you can find a more filthy restaurant in Turlock, walked in and food on the floor, stains on the wall and dried on gunk on the tables. 4 or 5 different people waited on us could not tell who are waitress was? I ordered the chilli Colorado, the meat was three days old and so dried out, the sauce was canned had that tin taste to it. On Saturday 02/07 went to have breakfast after my kids sports game, got there at 10:05a.m. and it was closed. Clearly there was people inside, but they didn't bother to turn on the open sign. Lost our business. Ended up at Los Gallos, which was open as scheduled. read more

Went there for the first time this past thurs and I have to say I been to many Mex restaurants from here to Los Angeles and this is one of the best.wife had the 3 meat molcajete I had bacon wrapped shrimp meat rice and beans .the service was very good the portions were good this will be my regular spot when we're in turlock. read more

My boyfriend brought me here recently, as I was craving good Mexican food, and around here it is sometimes hard to wade through the mediocracy that surrounds us. Anyway, this place is five stars because it is an all around wonderful experience to dine here. The waitstaff was so attentive, my drink was never empty and my food was brought out quickly even though it was a crowded Friday night. Small non descript mexican restaurant in Turlock. I came here with my latina friend for dinner. I ordered the carne asada plate and I cant remember what my friend ordered since it was spoken in spanish. When both our orders came anybody could tell that more effort was made with my friends food than mine. My latina friends dinner portions were much bigger than what I got, considering my dinner was more expensive ( i looked at the receipt afterwards). My rice and beans seemed to just been plopped in my plate with very small portion. My carne asada steak was 2 very thinly sliced overcooked piece of meat. Hmmm! I was very very very disappointed. I want to say that I loved this place and I would come here often. I recently purchased a coupon booklet and this place had a very good coupon. I made a take-out order and when I went to pick it up and pay, they would not accept my coupon because it was only for "Dine-in". Nowhere on the coupon did it say "Dine-in only". I mentioned it and the guy who helped me made a lame excuse of why I couldn't use it. He was very rude about it. I checked other coupons in the booklet and there are restaurants that were more specific and did include "dine-in only". So words of advice, be more specific on your coupons! read more

Great for a large party! I made a reservation for 30 people for a post graduation celebration, and I was really pleased with the service and food. A lot of restaurants in Turlock wouldn't take a reservation or required a deposit before hand (which is inconvenient when you live out of town). The restaurant isn't the prettiest on the outside, but it is your traditional Mexican restaurant on the inside. Like I said, very accommodating, awesome service, and great food. You won't be able to stop eating the salsa and chips either. read more

El Charo is our favorite Mexican restaurant in the Central Valley. From the salsa, chips, cabbage salad to the main dishes. You will not be disappointed. It's authentic Mexican food. My dad always said you can tell if a Mexican restaurant is good from it's chips/salsa and they are the best at El Charo. They will keep refilling your basket too. Our favorite appetizer are the flautas. If you want a quiet dinner this is not the place. It can get a little noisy-bad acoustics, but we're there for the food. I've heard about their ribs so I had to try them today. I do have to say these are the best ribs I've had. Service is also great.

The servers were resistant to meet the customers needs. They state they are open till 11pm and closed at 9:30pm. The crew started cleaning with bleach while customers were still eating. The dining area itself was decently clean but I wouldn't recommend it unless you want $1 margaritas in small bud light cups on a Thursday. Just be sure to come early because they will close early. The food is great, and you simply MUST try the "Mocajete". It is not on the menu, but always available. Tried it for first time here and craved it later. Have tried it at 3 other mexican restaurants and been disappointed. Now will not order it anywhere else but here. Fajitas are excellent. The only downside is that during many evenings, it gets so loud that you cannot have relaxing conversation... more geared to the party crowd, probably due to margarita night! Wish they would expand and give them a bar area of their own so family diners could continue to enjoy the good food in relative peace! My wife and I been going to ElCharo for years every time we went for mexican food untill tonight . Sorry to say service has gotten worse and it is a very dirty restaurant. The food from other guest was stuck to our drink glasses. not even one waiter asked how we were doing . there is trash all over the floor . seats are all broken up and cracked and no smile from anybody in there . So that was the last time we ever went there . If any body read this and go there make sure your dishes are clean. Bad bad service read more

Went on a weekend and the place look more like a party then a restaurant. The place was so dirty and the staff seem drunk. I saw a short man that seem to be the cook drinking with the customers. Family or friends where going into the kitchen even younger kids. The place was so loud and the serves was so slow because they seem to want to joke around with each other instead of serving our food and when we did get a food it seem so over cook and dry. We had my daughters baby shower on a Sunday afternoon, lunch time. Even though it was in early October, it was still quite warm, but we wanted the outdoor patio for the room. The staff was great, very attentive bringing drinks and extra ice, they set up umbrellas and fans. Still a little warm but it was all good. The food was delicious! We had the tequila lime chicken which was soooo good! and the chili verde which was sooo good too!! Rice and beans really good too! There was plenty of food! My family enjoyed this place until a couple of years ago. The service is the worst and the owner doesn't seem to care. I have been getting food to go until recently. The last time I called, after letting them know that I wanted to place an order to go, the waitress was very rude. She said, "you'll have to wait" and she sat the phone down on the counter. She didn't ask me to hold for a moment she just said, you'll have to wait. I finally placed my order when someone else picked up the phone about 5 minutes later. I was told the food would be ready in 15 minutes. I got to the restaurant 10 minutes later and stood at the counter for 20 minutes before even being acknowledged. At times there were as many as 7 people behind the counter and not one paid any attention to the fact that I was there. The tables and floor are usually dirty whether they are busy or not. The servers are more interested in each other than the customers. The owner is unfriendly. He never greets you or smiles. Such a waste. read more

Went to El Charo on margarita night. We had a huge party and bill so the waitress got a nice tip. They brought a different plate that i didnt order so i sent it back. The people at my table ate their food and i still didnt recieve my meal, so i went up and asked where my food was. She said ill bring it right out. Brought a different plate than i ordered, again, for a second time. At that time i was very upset, we'd been there an hour and i had not ate. So she comes over to tell me she is making it to go. For a third time the lady brought something different than i ordered. Three times and she couldnt get my order right and i was very upset as everyone at my table had ate but me. I took the food up front and said they can keep their food i wasnt waiting any longer. To compensate for their mistake they gave me a lousy 15% discount on ONE future plate. How insulting. I will not be going back! They also would not come back very often to fill our drinks. Our bill was close to $500 so this was horrible customer service for the amount spent. read more
