It had a sloppy look and was challenging to hold, but it tasted a lot better than it looks. The chicken was served hot off the grill and the onions were sautéed perfectly. I wasn't expecting sliced tomatoes to be included, but it actually added to the flavor. There was a fair share of guacamole. You'll definitely need a fork and knife for this dish. Tornillos Chocolate: This pastry was served chilled, which is exactly how I prefer my dessert. The outer texture was very flaky. It may not appear to have a lot of cream, but there's definitely a large amount packed in! Although I didn't think the food was the most attractive, the taste superseded the display by a long shot. El Chevere Bakery is very popular when you want a cake designed for a special occasion. I visited today at the suggestion of a friend who buys their cakes. I wanted to see some samples of their designs. I didn't realize they have breakfast and more on a menu. It's like two businesses in one storefront. The best way to see how cool the cakes are is to look in the front windows. That's where the best designs are displayed. My window photos give you a sample. You really need to visit in person. I was welcomed as I entered and left alone to check out everything they have to offer. It was too early to eat lunch and I knew I wasn't ordering a cake today. They do have a lot of other sweet delights! For today I asked for their business card and was quickly provided with one. We have bought pastries several times BUT today will be the last time we go there. 1. The service was too slow. It has been slow in the past and we had patience but this is it! 2. Salesperson#2 rang a customer and called another one before I had been served. 3. My order stayed on the counter while the salesperson #1 prepared a panini for a customer before me. 4. Salesperson #2 forgot one of my bread. 5. They are not eco-friendly, every bread comes in a plastic box. Use paper or cardboard please! 6. One of the bread (a roll with cream in it) was not fresh. This is a nice local bakery spot. If offers a delicious selection of cakes by the slice, colors, brownies, etc, most for less than $3. There's also a pleasant seletion of Spanish desserts. It's no frills, with no ambience or over the top cake decorating. You'll have to get your food to go, since there is nowhere to sit. But I highly recommend visiting if you want to indulge your sweet tooth. read more

If you're accustom to East Harlem bakeries then you know they are usually good for their butter rolls (aka pan caliente, or whatever name you have for it) and coffee. I can only give this place 3 stars because I don't expect much from this place. I only order the bread and unfortunately I think the bakery on East 116 and 3rd is actually better. I ordered my niece's 1st birthday cake from here and it was great and delicious. There was a small hiccup when I went to pick up the cake but Geraldo was amazing. The design that I had originally ordered was no longer manufactured by the company but Geraldo came up with another Elmo designed and the cake just looked beautiful. I was a regular customer to this specific location. My family adored this bakery for it's fresh bread with butter and coffee. I am shaken by an interaction that occurred last Tuesday. I am rendered speechless by the horrid treatment I've received. A worker yelled at me in Spanish stating that I have to leave I am not welcomed here. I hadn't spoken to her or anyone prior to her statement. I didn't even get a chance to order, I stood quietly in line. I responded in English and simply asked why. She then proceed to call me varies of names, and insulted my 2-3 pound chihuahua who she referred to as a hairless cat. Her approach was entirely unjustifiable and disrespectful. I'd like to add that my puppy was in a carrier at the time, not on a leash. read more

This is the third time I went in there to get cake. I tried 3 different types of cake in an effort to give them a chance at living up to bakery standards. Cheesecake was dry, chocolate and red velvet cakes were dry also. All three tasted old like they been there for days as well as hard on the side that was exposed while refridgerated. I moved into the neighborhood a few days ago and have been here twice already. The coffee is spot on-strong and just sweet enough. The coffee is so perfect that I crave it in the middle of my work day and after work. The chicken croquettes and ground beef empanadas were delicious! That little top of counter area is a gem. The glazed donut was okay but a little harder and denser than I like. I'm looking forward to trying their other pastry items as the flan looks amazing. The women behind the counter are patient and take the time to answer my questions about what each item is even when there's a group of other customer's waiting.
