I started stopping by here back in 2016. I'm ashamed to say I haven't been here in a while. It's a classic bakery with everything fresh baked and reasonably priced! Don't miss this gem when you visit East Harlem! Today April 18, 2022 I had the Spinach Swiss Croissant for $4.36 with tax. They would heat it but they eliminated seating. No outside seating either, all take out. When I got home I put it in the toaster oven for 3 minutes and it was so so delicious! I had some green beans with it too. Sausage Egg and cheese: I thought it would come on a croissant, but it was on a baguette. It was delicious, but I wish that it was on a croissant. Almond Croissant: it was good. Love their California tuna sandwich and their mozzarella and tomato. Their iced lattes are absolutely disgusting though. They use old coffee or premade espresso and it has the most horrible taste imaginable. They have an espresso machine so I'm not sure why they don't make pour fresh shots but it's a total rip off. read more

Best baguette on the upper east side. It's thin crust and pillowy soft inside. I always wonder where one can get the baguettes that Vietnamese sandwiches are made from. This has to be where all these restaurants get their bread. They are made right on premise and all gone by lunch time. So go early and get yours. read more

This bakery is not the creme de la creme as it's current rating might suggest . After having afew items from there I am confident I won't be back . I'll start off by saying this bakery is rather tiny . You walk up to a counter that's about 6ft wide give or take and place your order . When I visited , it was early afternoon and there were maybe 15 items to choose from and even that is being generous ... Anyhow , I got their classic almond croissant , a chocolate mousse cake and a good ole baguette to use with some cold cuts at home . The almond croissant was absolutely disgusting . It was rather dense and custardy and had a strange scent sorta like an eggy scent . It was not flaky whatsoever ever and tasted just all the way wrong . A complete waste of money on that item. The chocolate mousse cake was completely melted by the time I got in (not their fault) but had a good taste to it overall . My only let down was in the center , there should have been more vanilla sponge to balance the chocolate . The sponge was not enough . My final item , the baguette was rock hard . It tasted and smelled fresh but it was rock hard . I did ask the lady at the counter when they get made and she said daily . I don't know how it could get so hard in so little time . I made my sandwich and even after microwaving it was still too hard . Flavor wise it was good and it was a great size but definitely not my ideal bread . Yes, the lines can be annoying but it's so worth the wait! I've been going to this bakery since the older French man would smoke his cigarettes and sip coffee out front (that's about 20 years ago.) Since then it's been passed on but the recipes stay the same and the quality remains. read more

The covid restriction was implemented well in the store. Staff was nice and fast service. My 2 starts rating is for the taste and quality of the bake goods. Noted this bakery had great reviews and traveled from Queens to there just for a try. I ordered plain croissant and pear shape. The croissant tasted like a factory made, couldn't tasty butter and the dough was NOT crunchy nor flaky. It taste like a airy bread. The pear shape is more a like decent pastry compared to the quality of their croissant. Not recommend this place to any croissant eaters. read more

This is a small French bakery with maybe four tables. My co-workers and I usually get a French bread from here daily. It's delicious, nice and crispy on the outside and deliciously soft and warm on the inside especially with some butter, umm, you better get you some. They also have great coffee and carry almond milk and sweetener alternatives. Aside from having amazing French baguettes and croissants, they have delicious tarts, cookies and various dessert treats. Then also make salads, sandwiches and soups. Everything I have tried has been great and I don't think you can go wrong with anything you pick up & I forgot to mention that they have ratatouille! I ordered from here for Christmas after seeing them highlighted on a website and trying to support local businesses. I ordered a buche de Noel and 3 Linzer cookies to pick up. A trademark of the buche de noel is the Swiss roll cake(hence the $$). I'm sad to say this cake, when cut open, was just a plain layer cake. I'm not complaining of layers vs rolls but I could have easily made this myself or paid $15 somewhere else vs $36. The cake itself was light and a little dry. Solid French bakery in East Harlem with a good selection of pastries, breads, and sandwiches along with quiches. The cupcakes are ok, as is the baquette. The baguette was edible but lacked the characteristic crust of an authentic French baguette a la Balthazar. The opera cake is fine but a bit too cakey and on the sweet side. The one item to get is the La Tropezienne heart pasry which is essentially a puff pastry stuffed with creamy custard and dusted with powdered sugar. It's light and creamy. Overall, it's good for grabbing a "fast casual" lunch with a quiche, salade, and dessert but not at the same tier as Balthazar Bakery. read more

Great place to pick up coffee and bakery type stuff. They bake croissants daily and they are very good. Feels a bit out of place for the neighbourhood, but when I'm nearby, which I often am for my kids sports at the weekend, it's always worth dropping in. Prices are very reasonable, much less than some other places, and if you stick to what they do well, you'll be happy you walked a couple of extra blocks to get here. Only a couple of tables so more of a take out type place. read more

La Tropezienne is really no frills and you can literally walk or drive right by it and not notice you may have just passed by one of the better bakeries in NYC. I was in the vicinity and could not resist the lure of a fresh pastry. - Almond Turc was awesome and lived up to the many other yelp review compliments; really buttery rich and with a nice semi-sweet egg custard center. The crisp outer flaky crust was exceptional as was the crunchy texture of the fresh sliced almonds. TIP: Eat the Almond Turc as soon as you can get pretty soft if not eaten right away. I only ate 1/4 of the Turc right after buying it (choosing to eat the remainder over the course of the two following days) and the pastry became a bit soft. A few minutes in the toaster oven helped, but the Turc never got to the same level of crispness as when it was fresh. - The Cream Cheese Danish was a delightful pastry. The cream cheese was surprisingly light but still had a nice richness and a hint of sweetness. The bun portion of the Danish had a nice sweet glaze and also had a nice buttery texture / richness. - Egg Custard Brioche was interesting as it really swung toward the savory side of the spectrum IMO. It's clear La Tropezienne has the science of baking down pretty well (as like the preceding two pastries I mentioned above, the bun was uber rich and cooked perfectly). The custard was really eggy tasting; and I noticed it being less sweet than the custard found in the Almond Turc. A pleasant savory surprise in comparison to the Almond Turc and Danish. Overall, La Tropezienne showed to produce some pretty delicious French style pastries, and one would think you just frequented some midtown fancy bakery as opposed to on in East Harlem (not exactly a hotbed of French pastries). read more

Is this a bakery or a museum? Seriously, I wasn't sure if I should eat the pastries or frame them. So beautiful and I am happy to report, scrumptious as well. After much hemming and hawing (the guy helping me was patient and let me be as I was debating, and he calmly answered my "what is this?" queries about certain items since there aren't signs posted), I went with the mini chocolate marble cheesecake tart. The guy wanted me to let him know what I thought about my sweet. I sat down by the window and went to town. I was going to say "remarkable!" but then a mass group of people came in including one jerk who started yelling at another employee. No matter, I'll be back and will share my praise then. read more

Why this place is hidden is a mystery to me , but now I can unequivocally say I've eaten the most amazing Apple Turnover and Strawberry Croissant ever. Tropezienne is a small low-key bakery that bakes all their goods on site and its reflective in the taste. My Apple Turnover and Strawberry Crossaint were super fresh, and the crust on both were soft and flakey. The fruit inside was just the right amount of sweet with the perfect ratio of fruit to crust... it's just really good stuff. Please do yourself a favor and make it here. Wanted to share an odd experience: I ordered an Americano and asked for cream and sugar since they don't keep it in the front to add yourself like a lot of other places do. The guy helping me said, "You want milk? That's a latte". So he charged me for a latte instead of an Americano. Like...WHAT????! In all my 20 years of getting Americanos, no one has ever said or done this. It was really odd. The guy had no idea what he was talking about. He then proceeded to pour out half the drink and fill it with creamer! Half my Americano was creamer. Not good at making lattes! I just stopped by and ordered a chocolate croissant and an iced latte. The nice Asian lady took a cup, poured ice coffee in it, added milk, then steamed milk and put it on top. I have no idea what she made but it tasted like complete dogsh*t. Lattes are simple: espresso shot in a cup of milk. They need to train their staff better. Or stop ripping people off. That nasty drink cost me $4.50. Really good presentation of the pastries in the shop. There is also a bunch fo bread and the smell is delicious. Everything looks pretty clean and there is also tables to sit down and enjoy some coffee along with a quick sweet bite. I got their raspberry mousse cake for a dinner I had to go to. The mousse was delicious, but the outside lady fingers didn't taste like much. They were spongy and not sweet enough. was' a fan. YET there is plenty of stuff to choose from, which I absolutely adore. Next time I will definitely try the fruit cups which looked amazing! **I came back again (as expected) and realized my plight isn't so much with the products but the service... I ordered the same coffee as the guy in front of me but he got asked if he wanted hot milk or cold. I wasn't asked the same question and just given cold milk in my coffee. Why? Though I've been a customer for many years I always kept my orders simple. French baguette with butter. No complaints here, as they've delivered solid bread for years. Today, however, I was ravenous and decided to grab a sandwich (deviating from the typical baguette purchase). $10 for a ham and cheese sandwich is steep, but I was hungry. I kindly asked the nice lady taking my order for a plain ham and cheese. No mayo no tomatoes and no mustard as those are included on the sandwich based on their posted menu. She nodded confidently and asked what kind of cheese I wanted. I replied and gave her the remainder of my order (which consisted of a cappuccino my usual baguette and a pot pie for lunch). After waiting a bit for my sandwich my first bump in the road came at checkout. I paid for my order before receiving my food. I noticed she didn't hand me my baguette and she goes on to say she didn't charge me. Okay. No big deal. Annoying but not the worst thing to happen. She was kind enough to double check her math and I paid for my bread. I shuffle along and when I get to my sandwich (as I'm excitedly getting ready to inhale it).....??Mustard and tomatoes. Lord help me. It's everywhere. Both sides of the bread and tomatoes on the bottom. There's no saving it. And I'm out of breakfast and $10. read more
