This is one of the top Mexican food restaurants in Dallas in my opinion. I love their enchiladas, guacamole, chips and salsa, and they have a branch that's close to the American Airlines Center if you're trying to eat before an event. El Fenix is a Dallas Tex Mex tradition. It is. But, in the 30+ years I've been eating TM here, it's kind of fallen behind the more exciting and adventurous places I've come to love. It's as though it's walking while everyone else has raced ahead to the finish line, and it doesn't seem to care. Salsa is ho hum, but the chips are thin and crispy. It just doesn't trip my trigger any more. Redeeming quality? The waitstaff is excellent!!! So there is your third star. read more

Went for lunch with a friend and it was my first time here. Very impressed. The service was outstanding. The waitress we had today was Mireya, and let me just say she was on top of it. Extremely nice and promptly came to the table when drinks were low, but not too often so she didn't interrupt a conversation. Some of the best service I've had in a restaurant in a while. When we ordered our food we received it quickly and it arrived hot and delicious. I got the spicy brisket enchiladas and oh my gosh it was amazing. The salsa was great too and the chips were fresh and not stale. Will definitely be returning when I am in the area and would recommend for those interested in Tex-Mex. read more

Had lunch with a friend here a few times. The chips and salsa are good. I had the chile relleno, which was OK. Not the best I've ever had. I also had one of their Mexican salads. It tasted just like any other Mexican salad. I forgot what my friend ordered, but she seemed to enjoy her food. The place was fairly clean. The waiter kept our teas refilled, as well as the chips and salsa. The pecan candy they sell by the register was good, I bought a few to take home. I did use the restroom, and noticed that they kept it clean. I only give it three stars because I really see no reason to return. The food was OK. Nothing really stuck out. Their menu was fair. Perhaps if they added a few more items I might return. Like a previous reviewer stated, I really don't see anything that makes them unique. I absolutely adore this location for El Fenix. The food is HOT and the servers are great. My dad has moved nearby and the hospital is close by as well so I'm in here more often than I used to be. This location makes the Plano East location look like ... well, just bad. I've had my old standby's Tenchita Salad with meat, cheese enchiladas and the Sport tacos with beef soft tacos (no sauce). mmmm The crunch chips are great (sometimes they are hot & a little greasy) but overall, they are very satisfying and I have to watch how many I eat or I will be too full for the meal. I've been here in the middle of the afternoon and at lunch time - service was great. I like that when Dad is with me (plus his walker) that they sit us closer to the door and make sure they remember where they store his walker (a missing walker would be a great big fat problem). Best of all, I love letting my brother know I'm at El Fenix. He LOVES it but they don't have one in Bella Vista Ark! Having moved east of the Rock two years ago, El Fenix @ Casa Linda has become a regular dining destination in this city with SO many choices. Why? Because they keep it real. The recently updated interior is subtle and improves the ambiance of the place. It's nice to see fixtures and furniture as old as some of the customer base out of the building. The updated bar in the back even has seating now for those who'd rather imbibe than eat. Chips and salsa are STILL unrivaled. Light and crispy chips and the most perfectly balanced salsa anywhere. You cannot miss pairing them with the roasted queso or guac either. Everyone knows about the enchiladas, but check out some of the new menu items. Mexican cobb salad has not only grilled chicken, avocado, onion, cheese and all the normal cobb ingredients, but also a nice portion of chorizo. Non-grease laden chorizo. Yes, there is really such an animal. It's a great addition and with the light and tasty vinaigrette, this normally, heavy salad will not leave you feeling sluggish and bloated. The street tacos are a good choice too, but one thing that you might never think to order is Monterey chicken sandwich. Unreal! Delicious chicken breast, guac, bacon and the best bun ever. Good buns at a mexican food joint? Yep, as good as the tortillas. Service was very good THIS time. Really depends on who you get. It can be fantastic, as good as any restaurant in Dallas. And, nothing against the tatted up, generic, overly-caffeinated, gringo server of the week (hello, Chuy's, MiCo, OTB, etc), but I appreciate seeing the same "authentic" servers time and time again. Finally, the margaritas. I am a bit of a margarita purist and the house frozen reminds me of a slurpee version of a margarita, but is that so bad? I have never left a drop and D Mag likes them, so if you don't like them, you are either stupid or having a bad day.(that was a joke...maybe) They have a nice selection of tequilas, so you can create your own if the basic house is not your speed. With everything in our world becoming more and more middle of the road and generic, it is really nice to have a place that is trying t ostick to it's roots. As someone who eats at El Fenix more than not, stay away from this location!! The service was poor, we waited way too long, and once my food arrived, it wasn't edible. I ordered beef fajita nachos and after the 3rd piece of steak i spit out, I called the manager over, who did nothing more than remove my plate. They even charged me for food i couldn't eat. Not sure who was more worthless...the manager who refused to even acknowledge me or the waiter who didn't have a clue. In this case, I wish there was a negative star rating. read more

When we arrived, there was no host/hostess at the front. After the hostess finally came, she rushed us to a table without rolled silverware and didn't ask if we needed a sling for the baby carrier. After that, we requested limes and got lemons instead. The food was good but very greasy. read more

I have been coming here since I was a child. I brought my mom, my wife, and my mother-in-law here for Valentine's Day. I could not tell you how disappointed I was in Miss Nancy Carrillo the manager. She questioned my Character when I complained about the food and the drinks. Inalways give 20% tip but felt compelled to give zero. I apologize to the waitress but she should talk to her manager who cares nothing about the quality of her food and Make her bartender cut corners. From now on, I will go see Miss Rosalinda, the manager at the Mesquite location. Their food, service and MANAGER is much better. I was so disappointed that I spent all of the time it took to download the yelp app which stinks. But I took the time so I could let others know about this particular El Fenix operation. Certainly not like it used to be. Yelp is also more trouble than its worth. read more

So nice and so welcoming. The food was amazing and I will have to stay this place has sent me on a nostalgia trip and I'm loving it. Possibly making a return trip next time I am in the area. This is classic, unpretentious Tex-Mex. Sure, it's the same five ingredients, and it's more or less presented as a mess on a plate, but the the consistency and tasty simplicity is hard to beat. The salsa is a bit diluted in the restaurant, but otherwise, it's unrivaled in Dallas. Also, don't expect a great deal from the atmosphere, which is noticeably dated. read more

This place is delicious and nostalgic to me. I grew up coming here in the 80s and early 90s. It's still good to this day. Amazing chips and salsa. Love their guac and Queso appetizers. I love the downtown El Fenix, and the one on Northwest Highway. But the Casa Linda location is the one that Uber Eats uses, even though I live closer to the Northwest Highway location. I've ordered El Fenix from Uber Eats 3 times since September, and all three times my order came wrong. Once I did not receive my complete order, and twice I received the wrong food altogether. I don't know how you can confuse 2 orders of nachos (which I ordered) with enchilada plates (which I received). They don't look the same, sound the same, there is no easily excusable reason for this kind of confusion. And I'd probably overlook it if it was a one time occurance. But this has happened all three times I've tried to order from here. When I call to explain that the order is wrong, they are very unfriendly and unhelpful - if it was from Uber Eats, then you'll have to contact them. Uber Eats has been so nice, and they've refunded my $, but that doesn't solve my lack of a meal on each of those occasions. If they don't want to be part of uber eats, then they shouldn't be! They treat uber eats customers as an inconvenience. I will stop taking the lazy way out of my mealtime from now on, and will go to the Northwest Highway location if I want mexican food. read more

Horrible. Horrible. Horrible. Got up and walked out! The absolute worst service ever. Had to wait to be .seated. Waited 10 + minutes to order. Then after 15+ minutes, got up and walked out. No chance in hell I will EVER go back. This chain has been on a steep decline and seems to have hit rock bottom. Last several visits have been bad. I was denied entrance to this establishment today because I had a Service Dog ! The manager said he was sorry but the customers didn't like it I explained he was breaking the law and violating the ADA and he said my customers complain they don't like it ! Juan Diaz the manager clearly doesn't k ow what the law is even after I showed her service credentials he still denied us it was embarrassing! My lawyer will be contacting El Fenix I called corporate and did not hear back from anyone yet so they can speak with my lawyer now ! Don't go there with a service pet they will stand in front of you like they did me and not let you sit ! Well, what is their not to like about El Fenix? I guess I consider it your basic Tex-Mex. Nothing too fancy and that's the way I like it. I ordered the Tampico with one Chicken Enchilada and one Cheese Enchilada. I wasn't that impressed with the chicken, but the cheese enchilada was perfect! Enchilada Wednesday!!! Stopped in after visit to doctor. Had the Wednesday Special. Oh, so good. By far, they have the best chips and salsa anywhere. Pack house (12:30), so I expected service to be a little slow, but our waitress was top notch. We always eat at the Buckner location when we can. Have tired Lemon Ave. (just so/so) and the one downtown is great. If it weren't for parking issues we would prefer it because of the downtown vibe. read more
