I have come here twice already since it is close to America's tire and I needed to get a tire put on. First time I was surprised at how good it was. Second time I was surprised again at how good it was. Totally legit Super Burritos. It seems to be a franchise. Only thing is since it has to cater to a higher demographic area, they did not have cabeza which was a downer. I did like the carnitas and asada. Service was solid and fast. Burritos are made well. It is wrapped in normal paper compared to foil but this was not a point off thing since I finished it each time. Ambiance is nice and honey. It is not fine dining but more quality take out. So don't expect a sit down ambiance. I like it and would recommend it El Forastero to anyone looking for quality Mexican food. One star off for not having more of a variety of traditional meats but still solid!

I saw that El Forastero took over the Wendy's location and was looking forward to trying the food. Danville and San Ramon historically has not had any good Taquerias. Within a time period of a couple of months two Taquerias opened in San Ramon with good reviews. I happened to drop in on a Tuesday not realizing that El Forastero has a Taco Tuesday deal. The street tacos are $.50 cheaper. I ordered a couple of Carnitas tacos, one Adobada taco and a crunchy ground beef taco (I grew up on crunchy ground beef tacos). The tortillas were fresh, carnitas tasted boiled (not team flavorful), the Adobada had good flavor and I loved the ground beef taco (could have used more lettuce and cheese). They gave a chips and salsa bar which I thought was great. They keep the area very clean and well stocked. The chips are good, they don't taste like chips out of a bag (lots of restaurants use the commercial bulk chips). Even though the food is cooked, it takes several minutes to get your food. The service is good, restaurant is clean and they have several other items on the menu. I plan to drop in on Crunchy Taco Sunday. Plus I want to try some enchiladas (see if I can get ground beef) and Taquitos at least one. Swing by to support one of the better Taquerias in the San Ramon/Danville area.

I used to go to the El Forestero locations in Stockton all the time when I was in school so I wanted to check this one out. The inside is actually really nice, way better than I expected. It was clean and they had the basketball game on TV so I thoroughly enjoyed the vibe in there. Food wise it was a bit mixed. They have free chips and salsa which is always a plus, but honestly the chips were just okay. I ordered a Super Burrito online and while it was definitely a filling meal, I'm pretty sure they forgot the sour cream. I also didn't really enjoy the cheese they used inside the burrito. Overall it's a cool spot to sit in, but I would probably stick to the Carne Asada fries for a late night drunchies run next time.

Review is for drive-through lunch. El Forastero replaces the Wendy's on SRVB and is a 24/7 Mexican fast food / fast-casual place. There are like over a dozen stores, mostly in the Sacramento and Stockton areas. San Ramon apparently has have a niche customer base for late night eats, despite being a pretty sleepy town. Just check out the drive-through line at In and Out on a weekday after dark. The menu is huge and has fish, shrimp, chicken, pork, and birria in various permutations. Yes there's Quesabirria but also birria ramen! I opted for the Carnitas Plate ($20 or so) and a Chicken Quesadilla ($10 ish). Both were prepared quickly via drive-thru. Loved the carnitas plate - shredded, flavorful pork that's not super salty like some places. Our 5yo seemed to like it too, so huge props. Good creamy and smooth refried beams, and the free tortillas were served piping hot. The Chicken Quesadilla we found a bit on the salty side, and there's a small peppery kick added. Definitely plan to come back to try their other offerings. Heck, you can even fond breakfast items here.

Ever since leaving San Diego, we've been looking for a great go to mexican joint. In the last month we tried Taqueria Azteca in Dublin (Dang good Birria Pho), El Califas (great burrito) and now El Forastero. Personally, of the three I think I prefer El Forastero the most. here's why. Food: The food is good. We got a few things and almost all were great. Carne Asada Fries: Almost as good as I remember in SoCal. The fries were a good size (not quite as thing as ideal but still really good), the toppings of it all were generous, and the size, overall, was pretty good. My kids split one and almost finished it. Definitely enough for 2 people who eat a medium amount of food. California Burrito: It was okay. The first few bites were 40% tortilla, 20% cheese and 40% meat/fries. The flavors were great but the fact that it was small and didn't have a ton of stuff inside wasn't so great. As I got to the bottom, the ratios changed since it seems the tortilla bunched up on the side I started on, but I wouldn't get it again unless I was really craving a California burrito. Rolled Tacos: Standard rolled tacos. Honestly nothing stand out. They were crispy and generous with the cheese/sour cream on it. Street Tacos: Probably the second favorite of the night. We got a few tacos and they were filled with a ton of meat. GREAT value for the cost. We did wish they had more onion/cilantro, but in the end, we'd rather more meat than onion/cilantro. Fish Taco: The thing to avoid. It wasn't bad by any means, but it was not what we expected comparing it to SoCal fish tacos. When we go to places like Taco Ensenada in LA, the fish fry is a light batter with a flakey fish inside. Sometimes it's a little oily but still overall light. This was a more dense fish and the white sauce was a different flavor. I can't ding them for not having the same flavor profile but it was just a little heavier than I hoped for on a fish taco. Chips/Salsa Bar: Free chips and salsa! And they're all really good! What more do you need? El Califa didn't have this which was a demerit for them in the comparison game. The only issue we ran into here was that most of the sauces/salsas were low or out. They were so busy i'm guessing they just didn't know. Service: We went on a Thursday night. NOT taco tuesday, but a thursday night... they were pretty busy. Maybe 30 people in there and the parking lot was full. The staff was ALL extremely nice and helpful. Location: It'st he closest. Not by much but it's the closest place to us. I could walk there (I wouldn't) but I could. So that's a plus. Overall, comparing the food to Azteca and El Califa, They're all great (minus the fish taco here). Service wise, also everyone's great. So why does this place edge out the others? Convenience and the chips. This is the same distance as El Califa from home but has chips. Azteca is definitely a drive. Oh did I also forget to mention they are open 24/7 for drive through? That puts the cherry on top.

I read that this opened in the former Wendy's location so we decided to check it out. This chain is based in the Sacramento area. Did I mention that it's open 24 hours? To sum it up, it's more like a late night drunchie spot that has a drive thru! There was a line in the drive thru but we decided to eat in and there was a decent crowd in the inside. The menu board is overwhelming because there is a lot on the menu! We kept it simple and tried the quesabirria dippers and the rolled taquitos. Both were average. The salsa was pretty good and the green one has a bit of a kick. Service was good and the food was ready in a decent amount of time. We will probably go back after a late night out.

First let's get this out of the way. This is not an "authentic" Mexican place. Come on this used to be a Wendy's. What is the expectation here? I came here with my 9 year old daughter. We dined in. The menu is so big, I was immediately overwhelmed. When a menu is that big, some if not most items are gonna be meh but there's always a few they're going to do well. I must have stared at the menu for about five minutes. We eventually got two quesabirria tacos, carne asada fries, and nachos with cheese and jalapeños from the value menu. The birria tacos with the consommé were SO GOOD we both inhaled it. We dipped our tacos, then took a bite and then a little sip of the consommé and it was perfection. There was some nice cheese pull with onions to perfectly cut the grease. I just wish they'd give more consommé. The carne asada fries were good, the picture doesn't show it but there was guacamole inside also, which was a nice surprise. The carne asada was also cooked very well. The nachos from the value menu, wouldn't recommend since after I ordered, I noticed there's free tortilla chips and a salsa bar with jalapeños on the side. We also got a strawberry horchata which I have never seen anywhere but I so highly recommend it. It is very sweet so my daughter and I shared a medium and that was the perfect amount for us. There were TVs inside with football playoffs on. The bathrooms were clean and the restaurant is clean. The only thing annoying about dining in is the beeper that lets you know your food is ready will just keep beeping and beeping while the person goes up to get their food. The service is good. The person taking my order patiently waited while we were deciding. The food came out in about five minutes. I will definitely be coming back to try some more stuff and getting the birria tacos again. I recommend trying this place out and getting the birria tacos.

Got the jalapeño and cheese tamale, ketobirria and regular birria. It was all so good! The complimentary chips and salsas are delicious. We really enjoyed the food. The tamale had a great roasted pepper flavor. The restaurant is clean and bright. The staff are pleasant and helpful. I'll be back! In restaurant seating 7 am to 10 pm. Drive through is 24/7.

Ok so this is a review of the drive thru experience. First off, super fast! Got three tacos and a drink in like 6 minutes or so. I was able to see inside when I drove into the drive thru and it does look really nice inside. I had two street tacos and a quesabirria taco as well as a horchata. The adobada street taco was very tasty. The lengua taco was a bit dry, but hey, they just opened and it was still really good, just not as good as the adobada. Major props for having enough cilantro and onions on the tacos. Well done there! The red and green salsas added a nice kick. The red one was a bit spicier, so just something to consider if you're not into spicy food. The horchata was great. I've had bad horchata before and this one was definitely not bad at all! Now. The reason this gets 5 stars? The quesabirria taco was amazing. The sauce was piping hot and the the taco? Perfect. It made me actually sad I had not ordered three of them! I will definitely be coming back and having a few of these!

I've never heard of this place or that they have literally a hand full of locations all over California and... they're all open 24/7! I'd definitely choose this spot over McDonalds for a late night snack lol. Easy to find and friendly guy taking orders. Lots of pictures and OPTIONS. I was throughly impressed with the list of options for every palate. chose the regular lengua burrito and it was juicy and moist. A little salty but it balanced well. Only one type of hot sauce and I don't know how I feel about it. Again it works with the burrito. ordered the orchato and if you Ike watered down version. Then this is the place. Maybe the ice melted and it was 2 am. Will definitely give this spot another try at another time. I left full af though. So I really can't complain.

I've ordered several times online since the opening. The food is good, but online ordering experience is terrible. They text that food is ready when it's not. The drive thru window gets stuck because they don't ask anyone to pull aside and wait. They gave away an order to someone else. Only go here if you have 25 min to wait for food and lots of patience. read more

First try, decided to hit the drive thru, kinda like pulling up to a taco truck!! Ok, so you want to break in a new taqueria? You go street tacos.... And go for the Trifecta, no? Carne asada, Al Pastor, and Lengua (carnitas and pollo will have to wait). Just the 3, came with red and green salsa... both pretty picante! Enough meat in all 3, lots of cebolla and cilantro, the lengua was moist and flavorful, al pastor nice and spicy, carne asada was the weak boy of the three- not enough char. I had tried to checkout the menu, but the website was really flaky, and hard to view the menu on the San Ramon site. You can't go back and forth between pages easily. Asked for a paper menu, but she said they don't print them anymore ‍. Price was reasonable, might be best in area now... I REALLY like Los Pericos, but Dublin is a drive and I'm interested in checking these guys out late at night- they go 24 hours! read more

Had the Super Burrito with grilled chicken & it was really good. I don't give too many 5 Star ratings, as I always feel like there's room for improvement. Overall, this place is about 4.5 Stars & my only criticism is the chip & salsa bar was depleted during my visit. Better than Chipotle & better prices. Chipotle always loads their burritos with lettuce, even when I request light veggies. Also, the prices are better at El Forastero & the burrito is actually warm (unlike Chipotle where the burrito is always cold for some reason). read more

I've given this place three chances, and all three times they got my order wrong. The first time, I ordered a taco salad and received lettuce and tomato in a bowl--no taco shell, nothing resembling a taco salad they show on their menu. The second time, I ordered a chile relleno and somehow got chile Colorado instead (still trying to understand how that mix-up even happens). Tonight was the best F*** up: I ordered quesabirria and a breakfast burrito and was given a carne asada bean burrito and super nachos. The food itself is decent tasting--even when it's not what you ordered--but the prices are high for what it is, and the service is severely lacking. If you decide to order from here, triple-check your order before you leave... or be prepared for a surprise. read more

Pros: 1. Food is better than a lot of Taquerias in the area. NOTE - I mostly ordered vegetarian food, so I can't comment on the meat dishes 2. Complimentary Chips & Salsa Bar 3. Prices are reasonable, especially given the portion sizes 4. They're open 24-hours - which is great since the only other 24 hour options in the area are fast food burger places. Cons: 1. Parking is a little challenging at times 2. They didn't get my order correct a couple of times read more

Pros- Open 24 hours I have only ordered food through the drive thru, Pretty quick service. The only option in the area other than MCD's that is open 24 hours. Food is ok... I got a breakfast burrito which was decent, but for the price I was expecting a little more flavor. The green salsa was flavorless. The employees seemed nice. I will probably come back because it is so convenient, but not when I want the real deal Mexican food that I am used to. read more

Have done take out 5-6 times. When they get the order right, food is quite good. While drive thru and online ordering is way more convenient, they simply don't have appropriate quality controls in place. Just park and walk in and explain exactly what you want. Then...check your order. Food will be good and you won't experience the frustration of getting home with missing items, missed simple instructions, etc. read more

It's so nice to finally have good Mexican food in San Ramon and not have to travel to other Bay Area cities. The tacos and burritos are a good size and tasted authentic and fresh! I had the taco salad and it was a lot better at El Forastero than the other Mexican joint nearby. Horchata tasted a little too powdery, but the staff recommended the strawberry horchata, so I'll probably try that next time. Given that it's their opening week, I'm hoping this place gets even better over time. Being open 24/7 with a drive thru option is already a huge plus! Although the parking lot is decent, it's worth going inside for their chip and salad bar. Highly recommend and I'll definitely be coming back again. read more

First impression the presentation of the building is very nice and clean. Bathrooms are clean. Service was OK. Ordered our food. Everything in the pictures look delicious took over 30 minutes for some deluxe nachos and a steak quesadilla. When we got the food meat on the nachos was cold to the touch, barely any sour cream, barely any cheese and to be honest it just looked like a mess. The steak quesadilla hardly any cheese falling apart once I've picked it up I felt like everything was rushed took forever. I can only imagine how long the food takes for the people in the drive-through. My honest review I would give this a 3 out of 10. Sucks to give such a low rating I was expecting more, but this is my last time coming here. read more

For starters, I really wanted to like this place. If the restaurant looks like a former fast-food joint, that's because it is. From what I could tell, this appears to be a former Wendy's location--at least as of December. Being housed in a former fast-food building doesn't automatically make the food good or bad. The food itself does that, so enough about the ambiance. I walked in, looked over the menu, and ordered a regular chicken burrito to go. The person taking my order was neither rude nor particularly engaging. According to the menu, the regular burrito includes your choice of meat, guacamole, and pico de gallo. Back in my car, it was time to see what this place was all about. As soon as I pulled the burrito out of the bag, I was already disappointed. One end was noticeably cooler than the other. Translation: the pico de gallo and guacamole were concentrated on one end, while the meat was on the warmer side. This immediately suggested that the ingredients were placed side by side rather than evenly distributed throughout the burrito--never a good sign. I didn't taste guacamole at all. The burrito was dominated by pico and chicken. The chicken itself lacked flavor and tasted like it had been boiled rather than grilled. I don't consider myself a burrito aficionado, but this was a poor excuse for a $14 "regular" burrito. went in on Saturday Morning to have their Mundo'. the cashier took my order, I got my food and Sat down on the conformable seat n table to enjoy my Mundo . I started to take a couple of spoonfuls. I couldn't eat eat any more, it was so crazy Spicy , Hot !! The corn tortillas were old and stale Nothing taste good. so I took my plate up to the counter and ask if I could have another new bowl of Mundo or my money back. The same Cashier that took my order instead offered to give me my money back that way I can't compare the new Mundo with my Hot Spicy Tampered Mundo I have been there on the Weekends to have a bowl of their Mundo and it was never that spicy before and had a different cashier. instead. I just walk away and I'll won't be back for a while has along that cashier is there . yes. I think he made it spicy on purpose. read more

A great addition to our community! Not quite up to the SoCal level of great drive-thru Mexican food or late night locations like King Taco - but pretty darn close (ie. good enough). It's reminiscent of the Alberto's drive-thru chain in LA/OC for my fellow SoCal transplants - but pricier. Burritos come in two sizes (we ordered the 'regular' size - glad we did as that was more than enough to get us full LOL) - carne asada was a bit salty, but the cilantro/onion/pico de gallo ratios were on-point. Definitely putting El Forastero on our regular rotation: close, tasty, fast! read more

Let me say the first awesome thing about this place is they are opened 24 hours. My son let me know there are a bunch of locations too in the Sacramento area. Perfect for late night eats for the college crowd. I had a breakfast burrito at night. Yes! They serve breakfast all day & night. Bomb diggity! Then I had a grubbin' order of carne asada fries too. Plus a large piña (pineapple) agua fresca. The inside dining area closes at 10pm. The guy working the drive through was super nice & hooked me up with extra mini cups of salsa Verde. If you have a late night craving and want some good Mexican food, head to El Forastero in San Ramon. Let's go! read more

I got the super burrito and it was absolutely delicious! The tortilla they use is different from any other place around -- so fresh and unique. The restaurant is very clean, and the customer service was great. I can't wait to come back and try more from the menu. My friends have recommended the quesabirrias and the main plates, so those are definitely next on my list! read more

I hate to be honest, but it is what it is. Food is average to below and 3 stars is a little generous. Super burrito was fine, lots of beans. Shredded beef tasted good. Crispy chicken tacos were not good. Carne asada street taco, blah. No taste. Amazingly, the guac was terrible. Probably the worst I've ever had and I'm not sure how you mess up guac. Not freshly made. Tastes like pre-made out of a bag. Chipotle guac is 100x better. It's too bad, we were really hoping for better. read more

Twenty minute drive to have food at a place, the menu appeared to be different. Location used to be Wendies so it had a drive through, clean and stardard fast food seating. Waited just a couple minutes Older Mexican got glassed over even though I ordered verbatim. Gave me a beeper. Not very long Salsa bar warmed chips Attentive at cleaning. Food standard issue Non Dimensional flavors Add Seranno dry make U Cough heat, Doesn't rescue flavor not there. Beans rice OK Chili Verde bland no green sauce inside my burrito, I like the Poblanos onions and stuff inside adding flavor NOPE. Drained and the add in's from the salsa bar Don't mesh. Kinda bummed it was Standard Mexican not from a Dirt Road town south of the boarder grammas 100 year recipe. Nice Simple clean normal You can go if you want. read more

I've been here twice now. Once with the family the first week they opened for dinner and today just to try out their breakfast burrito. The restaurant the first visit seemed like they were still trying to get operations smoothed out, but the food was good. No changes to the interior so it felt like Wendy's still. Lol! The tacos were ok, good portions. The carne asada though was more like ground beef so it won't be a repeat order. The tongue tacos were delicious. Very tender and flavorful. My daughter's burrito (Al Pastor) was not wrapped well and just opened up after two bites. They don't wrap in foil (wax paper). Although it was OK, it is not a place I'll return to. We ordered it for takeout and it didn't beat Chipotle. Granted I ordered the Super Burrito, something I use to always order at Guadalajara Grill but no longer order but I was feeling nostalgic. I was thinking it would be a wet burrito chock full of goodies but it was simple and plain. It was mainly rice and beans with a bit of chicken for an additional $2, a smear of quac which was barely detectable and I had to add my own sour cream to know it existed. Having to add a protein to a burrito that is called super at an additional cost is ridiculous. We also tried the beef taquitos but they were dry. Still searching for great Mexican food! read more

The burritos are to small. The diff between a super vs regular is barely noticable. Needs a punch of flavor. I personally feel they should use whole beans instead of bean spackle. Also throw some pico on that bad boy! At the drive up window you are limited to green and red salsa. No lime, carrots, penos, pico, avo salsa, radisches, etc etc. And finally this is a head scratcher. They wrap the burrito in paper not tin foil !! Wendy's closed and saw this new Mexican restaurant opened and thought to give it a try. Wow... it's affordable and very delicious. The best is they open 24/7! It's rare to find any restaurant opens 24/7 in San Ramon area so I'm thrilled. I went there on Tuesday not knowing it was Taco Tuesday. No wonder the drive-thru line was so long and I had to go around twice just to find a parking but it's all worth it. I ordered special 3 street tacos and 2-item combo (shredded beef crispy taco and chicken enchilada). The combo came with rice and refried beans. All very tasty! They were generous in giving the meat. The beef and chicken were well marinated and tender. The salsa bar was self-served and clean. They offered few types of salsa and they were spicy and authentic. We stopped by tonight and had multiple issues with our order. I was given ground beef instead of steak, the keto tacos were disappointing (they were essentially just meat with cheese on top) not shaped like a taco as shown in the pictures, and four items were missing from our order. The worst Mexican i have had, Taco Bell is better. I ordered a taco salad from the drive thru. When I got home the shell was swimming in liquid so only the edges were crisp. The meat was no seasoned at all. The guacamole was watery. There were huge unevenly cut pieces of lettuce on top with about a teaspoon of cheese. What was all the liquid? It was do gross. As a Latina, I was so excited to see a Mexican restaurant open locally. Yes, I know there are others, but honestly, none of them have won me over. My daughter and I shared the carne asada lunch plate, and it was a generous portion. It came with rice, beans, delicious guacamole, and sour cream. I have been back on a couple of different occasions and have noticed some changes in the food. My ground beef tacos had such salty meat that I had to scoop it out and just eat lettuce tacos. Pretty bad for a 14 dollar lunch. The mgr appeared to be busy so I waited until the lunch rush died down and I was leaving to lodge my complaint. He didn't seem to care. Last time I had chicken enchiladas again. The meat was almost all dark meat and not as tender as before. On this visit the dining room tabletops and floors were dirty. The salsa bar was a mess and kitchen floor had a lot of basket liner papers scattered all over. It looked like they had given up. I'll pass on any more visits here. read more

Finally!! Some legit Mexican food here in Danville/San Ramon. The chips and salsa bar is delicious. I loved my super burrito with shredded beef. The food came out hot and delicious. I ate my daughter's leftovers this morning with some eggs. The quesabirria was also delicious and more filling than it looks- could have shared that meal. It's more expensive than this type of Mexican restaurants typically, but that is more the location than anything I think. Their portions are great and their menu is huge. I'm in trouble that we have a drive thru Mexican option. We all loved our food and will be going back! read more

Then it made sense that the first two dumplings did not have that brown sauce, which I now know was the sesame sauce. This was good - Umbeboshi roll: comes with umeboshi, shiso, and cucumber. You can definitely taste all of the ingredients, which is what you want for this Miscellaneous: - Plenty of parking via a shared parking lot with other businesses - Good for small and large parties (there was a semi-separated room next to where we sat that had plenty of seating). We were way late for our dinner reservation but the manager, Aman(?!) was warm and welcoming. The bartender (name?) also doubled as a server. Very helpful with our cocktail orders. Extensive bar. After years, I was served my straight single malt in a chilled glass. Without having to ask! The server, William, is one of the best trained servers that I have come across. Ever. Thoughtful. Efficient. Attentive but not intrusive. (What's a guy like him doing in a place like this! ) The chef (name?) sent each dish out looking elegant. There were six of us, so we had three appetizers, four entrees and a dessert. Impressive plating! He visited us at the table to ensure everyone was happy. As you may know from my reviews, the experience is more important to me than the food. Given that this is a "mall restaurant!," I was blown away! Inside was basically empty, only like 3 tables. Service was pretty messy and kind of inattentive overall--didn't feel very welcoming. Biggest issue: a few dishes were pretty spicy but no one said anything. We had a baby with us, so that part was honestly not great. Food-wise, I won't go into details, but portions were really small... mostly sauce, not much actual food. Overall just not a place we'd go back to.

Solid 24-hour spot. El Forastero never disappoints. Food is always fresh, flavorful, and served quickly. Portions are big, prices are fair, and the quality is consistent every time. The salsa bar is a highlight. The place itself is comfortable and very well lit, and the bathrooms are clean, which is always a plus. Service is friendly and efficient without feeling rushed.
