So I didn't even know this place existed. I was heading to my go to pho spot and I saw this place next door so I did what we Yelpers do and I went to see if there were any reviews and there were ... and it was an overall 5 star rating with a good 18 reviews ! I HAD TO GO TRY IT! Upon entering I was immediately greeted and given a moment to review the menu on the wall. The cashier was super friendly and helpful and answered all the questions I had. I decided to go with a small order of chips and queso and the shrimp fajita avocado salad. I was given my chips and salsa and given a buzzer which would identify me when my salad was ready. In the meantime I visited the salsa and accompaniment bar where there were tons of fresh salsa and veggie options. The chips and queso were BOMB! My salad was ready in about 10 minutes and the cashier brought it to my table which was super nice. That salad seriously looked and tasted like something that should and would be in a fine dining Mexican restaurant ... the shrimp were plentiful and plump and tasted as though they were truly seared on a fajita flat top along with the peppers and onions. It came along w a side of ranch and for this ranch lover to not have even used the ranch tells you just how flavorful this salad was! Everyone dining in the restaurant was so so so into their meals that I had to giggle because I was too and we all had not one care in the world. New fast casual Tex-Mex joint in Sterling near NOVA Community College in Sterling with great reviews. I am a bit skeptical but the food looks pretty good on the website so I grab my son and we head over to decide on our own. The menu is pretty extensive in terms of options and it reminds me of Tex-Mex/Mexican places in California. For example, they have breakfast all day with Chorizo or Carne Asada Con Huevos and wraps. They also have the standard burritos, tacos, enchiladas, fajitas, etc. and even specialy smothered burritos. I decide to go with the Mariachi Burrito Platter which is smothered with red chile sauce and cheese. My son goes with the Chorizo Con huevos. You also get some free chips and they have a salsa bar with mild/medium/hot salsa, pico de gallo, onions, etc. The next thing you notice is the food is made from scratch as it takes approximately 5-10 minutes for the dishes to come out. I take it the food isn't sitting in the kitchen and they slap it together like other places. We really enjoy our dishes...I like the giant burrito and the spanish rice combined with pinto beans is very flavorful. The potatoes in the Chorizo Con Huevos are nice and crispy and the chorizo is tasty (although a bit greasy). Overall, very pleased with El Fresco...As the name implies, everything is fresh and tasty and it is a nice addition to the Sterling hood. We will be back to try the $10 lunch menu as you can't beat that price these days with inflation. read more

I will admit my hopes weren't too high since every tex-mex place around here is okay. Upon picking up the order, we were greeted by the staff and every item was double checked before she placed it in the bag. The establishment was clean and organized. Wow, uh...what happened here? So, two months ago this was my 'go to' spot for Mexican food, ESPECIALLY the hard shell tacos that are a dying breed at Mexican restaurants (especially for takeout) but the last two times I've been the wait was at least ten minutes longer than my pickup time for the order I placed and almost everyone in line who ordered we're also asking about the status of their food. Something in the back of the house has changed and the kind woman at the front desk is catching strays on behalf of the cooks in the back. If you ever loved the Tortilla Factory in Herndon, this is the next best thing. I've been sampling Mexican restaurants all over Loudoun County, and while I remember TF being a tiny bit more seasoned, the food at El Fresco was definitely the best I've found so far--and I'm picky. I ordered takeout and received good-sized portions, the food was still hot, and everything was delicious, right down to the finely diced salsa. The Chimichanga was loaded with meat, just like the old TF, and came with a delicious white jalapeno sauce, the burrito grande was just that--huge and complex. My only ding would be that there wasn't enough meat in the crispy tacos, but I have to give them kudos for double-shelling the tacos to prevent them from being mush by the time they arrived.
