Came back this time hoping for a different experience, no dice. There are a number of really solid Mexican places in the area and this one is not one I could recommend. Server was friendly, but very slow service (only one other table with patrons in whole place) as our drinks took maybe 10 minutes to come and then our appetizer was never ordered. Food was good enough, but not worth the inflated prices, significantly inflated compared to others nearby. And I know this is intentional on their end, but one basket of chips for an entire table and then $2.75 for a refill...we had a table of 5 and had one basket, stupid in my book, and specially when every entree is expensive. Went on yelp looking for a good place around this town and we chooses to stop here. It was worth stopping the food is amazing and the drinks are really good. I loved the Mexican decor. The salsas are all really good including the hottest one. The only thing I didn't like to much was the horchata glass is way too small and there's no refills on it. Bad experience. Met five friends last night for drinks and food. We had a 6:30 reservation and started to enjoy our evening. At about 7 the larger side of the restaurant filled with a large celebratory party group. They dimmed the lights and then there was a big surprise cheer. From then on loud music with a singer and mic played. We couldn't hear each other talk. In addition, Our waiter seemed to be covering us and the large group. There were lots of order mixups due to the chaos. The manager apologized, but the loud party continued. I'm Not sure why they took a reservation to begin with. I'm giving two stars because our waiter did the best he could. We were brought churros for our troubles, but really? One of our group was charged for carne asada that's $27 when two small tacos were brought (probably from the party's food). I don't understand the hype. We are newer to this area and still trying to find our favorite Mexican restaurant. This place gets good reviews but was a complete miss for us. First, they charge for extra chips. If they were homemade, I'd get it. They are not. Second, for being charged four dollars extra for rice and beans, I'd expect a decent portion. The portion was teeny tiny, about 2 heaping tablespoons worth. Third, I ordered the El Gran Burrito that stated it came with guacamole and choice of chicken or steak. There was no guacamole on my burrito. They also charged extra for the steak even though it wasn't stated on the menu. The Burrito was half lettuce. I normally don't complain about slow service but when there are only two parties, it's not really excusable. The food was decent but all the up charges don't make it worth it. Terrible decision... we made a reservation for my birthday, drove from Schaumburg to meet family for a special dinner, however, when we get to the parking lot there were only 3 cars parked . To our surprise the restaurants doors were locked. One of the workers comes and opens the doors to say they were close due to "cooking gas being down". We asked to use their bathroom and to our surprise the heating was on and the grill was being used .. I understand things can happen but decent people would call their reservation and let them know. Then they offered to serve us tequila shots for our inconvenience and then charged us $50 for 4 shots... save your time and definitely check other spots whose service is better. This place had me at my first piña colada sip. Strong, delicious and a wonderful size. The nachos were a hit with our group and there was more than enough for about four folks to eat. My steak tacos were gone in a flash and I was so disappointed I didn't have room for their rice bc it did look delicious ! A proud Latin owned business that is ACCEPTING of everyone bc we all use the same green dollar bills. I loved loved loved that they hosted an event not only celebrating one but two marginalized communities - migrants and the LGBTQIA+ community. I'm always down to visit a restaurant that has good food and good customer service. I do not post many reviews on here, but I just have to say that this place was AMAZING! Food: I can safely say that these were the BEST enchiladas I have ever eaten. I ordered the Enchiladas Bravas (cause I welcome some spice!). Often times, the spicy option has plenty of heat, but the flavor suffers. This was not the case here, it had a really nice kick and the flavor was great! I tried my wife's Enchiladas De Mole Poblano, and they were equally tasty! I haven't had good Mole in quite some time, they did it right! Drinks: We had to order the Margarita tower, we were celebrating a birthday after all. It's a great presentation. The taste was there, but I'm sure the single-serve margaritas are a little better/boozier. No complaints though, they hit the spot! Dessert: As I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday, they brought out a huge sombrero and had a lot of fanfare to celebrate her birthday (we were not expecting this at all). We also ordered a couple versions of the Churros. Again, nailed the churros, I have had many lackluster versions of this, and they do it right here! We somehow ended up with like 20 churros, I don't know how, but I wasn't complaining! All in all, great meal. I've never written a review despite having excellent food at other restaurants, but I feel like this place truly deserves the review. I will try my best to give accurate details to understand everything possible. **Skip to the bottom for a quick rundown without the details.** (Yelp has a limit to length so I will shorten and cut some things out) the area is nice, and decor was comfortable. we were quickly greeted in an unfake but genuine polite and caring manner. Very welcoming attitude and honestly comforting. The server shortly came back with some chips and 3 different types of elegantly displayed salsa and explained the types of salsa. Pico de gallo was "meh" nothing too special. Salsa verde was very standard and similar to everyone's salsa verde. The red salsa was probably the best but was nothing to rave about. Also, the chips were very fresh and hot. The manager shortly after came over to check on us and we let her know that the server was very nice and the chips were great! Much like the server, the manager was also understanding of our needs and told us to take our time looking over the menu, she understands that it's fairly large. They weren't ditching us for 20 minutes, and they weren't rushing us by coming every 5 minutes. The server looked for signs that would indicate that we are somewhat ready to order and approached us with perfect timing once we were content. We ordered the Piña al Pastor and the Traditional Steak Burrito with no alterations. We had the server explain to us what the difference was between the traditional burrito and the gran agave burrito. essentially he said with the gran agave burrito you get peppers and guacamole as well, alongside the slightly higher quality fajita meat instead. He also checked with us to confirm that we wanted the default corn tortillas for the piña al pastor and not the flour. We took the default corn. My friend and I like to try burrito's from every possible place around us within a 20-minute driving radius, so burrito tasting was up first. Nice presentation, but as expected there's a lot of other ingredients like lettuce as filler. Burrito Parilla next door has a similar burrito which was extremely disappointing because there was about 5% meat that could barely be tasted. Unlike Los Burritos Tapatio's or El Burrito Mexicano who have about 90% of their burrito is meat which is pretty awesome. Here there was about perhaps 10-15% meat, but the overall impression was pretty good. Lettuce was extremely fresh and crunchy, and all the ingredients as a whole were very fresh. I didn't notice anything spectacular about the burrito, but it definitely wasn't bad at all. Now onto the main attraction - the piña al pastor. Firstly the presentation is both extravagant yet simple. Our first go-to is to dip our pinky into the salsa to get a taste of it. both of us thought it was somewhat underwhelming and didn't have intense flavors. we got our tortillas and dug into the freshly melted cheese and scooped up a nice portion of al pastor meat. I topped it with the traditional cilantro and finely chopped onion and the flavor was extraordinary but it was missing something... and I instantly knew that it was missing just a little bit of the exact salsa that I tried not too long ago. I put a little salsa (not spicy) along my tortilla and I was extremely impressed. The flavors felt like they were in such harmony. everything was in perfect balance. the salsa wasn't competing with the flavor of the al pastor. It made me consider if it was worthy enough to beat my favorite al pastor from my friends place "Taco Grill - Salsa Bar" in Westmont. It was a tough decision. But I forgot the lime! I squeezed it hesitantly over this already perfect taco and the tiebreaker was here. This is by far THE GREATEST al pastor I will ever have. The pineapple juices soaked gently into the meat, the subtle amount of pineapple incorporated throughout, and the overall complimentary flavors was an example of incredible attention to detail. Everything was thought of. I am a rather timid person and typically never ask to speak to managers. But this unpopular restaurant had to know about themselves. I asked for the manager, and let her know that this is by far the best al pastor I have ever had, and I'm thoroughly impressed with how great the pastor and service is. Pleased to hear this, she told us a little bit about the history of the restaurant chain and said that the hardest thing to do is to simply get new people to come through the door. I really want to help out this small restaurant chain and would highly recommend it. The al pastor is great, and the service and ambiance is so comforting! TLDR; Piña Al Pastor has a perfect balance of flavors and is 10/10 (almost made me teary-eyed for the complementary flavors). Servers are genuinely kind-hearted. Traditional burritos were in nice balance as well but were nothing to rave about. Complimentary chips were hot with 3 typical salsas. read more
