May be the best Mexican food of my life. At least I can say 100% the Al Pastor is the best you're going to find in St Pete. This is an authentic eatery, humble with just a handful of tables but the food is not to be missed. We have tried so many taco places in the area and going here last night was a total game changer! We ordered the chips, salsa and guacamole. Beware the house salsa is hot! At least it was hot for this gringa We ordered the verde enchiladas with fried pork, we ordered 3 takes as well, an al pastor, carnitas and chicken in chipotle sauce. This place makes some great tacos. @$1.50 they are quite a deal. Eveyone else seemed to think so too because the place was full. I had 2 beef and 2 carnitas. All were great. So delicious! It's a smallish place but service is fast, and the food is amazing. Went for the first time right before Christmas and we had 5 kinds of tacos, all were so tasty but Al pastor was my favorite. Chips were warm, guacamole has a kick, and great salsa too. We go to El Huarache Veloz at least once a month. The meal here always makes me wonder why I go to any other Mexican restaurant. The only thing they don't have is a cheese dip...so sometimes I go to other Mexican restaurants for that cheese dip, but then I am disappointed with the rest of my meal. So - just go here. They have chips and salsa (but it is not on the menu). You get FRESH, homemade chips and homemade salsa. Fair warning - the salsa is hot. But it is great. Their tacos are fantastic - I am a sucker for their carnitas. This time, I had the flautas and my husband had the Enchiladas verdes. Always great. The refried beans are cooked down, well seasoned, and made with bacon - what's not to love. Reasonable prices - 2 dinners, 2 drinks (they serve NO alcohol), and chips and salsa for under $30. On one visit the kitchen smell came into dining room which made my clothes smell. I give it 5 stars because the food is great and the restaurant is great for what it is. Seen this place on 49th st. many times. Finally stopped for lunch, and I was very glad I did. I had carne asada with guacamole ,pico de gallo, cactus,Green onion,rice and beans. Went here for lunch on a Wednesday. There were only three tables occupied with three people each. One of the tables had already finished their meal. We ordered chips and salsa, chips and guacamole, and street corn as appetizers. We each ordered a plate of tacos for our meals. The chips and salsa came out in a few minutes. The salsa was hot tomato soup. I have never had hot tomato juice for salsa before and it was horrible. The chips and guacamole came out 30 minutes later. The guacamole was actually really good but It wasn't worth the 30 minutes. The street corn came 10 minutes later and only one of our meals showed up another 10 minutes after that and it was cold. The remaining two meals didn't show for another 10 minutes. All in all it took them a full hour to prepare 3 meals. The other two tables got their meals just before us. There was nothing great about the food that I would ever wait that long again. I've had better food from street vendors that serve you within minutes. None of us would ever go there again. read more

We got two orders of enchiladas to go and found at least 6 bones in our food. Some were very jagged and sharp. I can't even imagine if our daughter swallowed one. This place is in a little strip mall. Don't let the outside fool you, it looks like a little dive, but the food is authentic and awesome. I had the Dorado tacos from the appetizer menu. I don't get why this is a four star place! Their hard shell tacos are made by frying a tortilla. (The second Mexican restaurant that I've been to lately that doesn't have decent shells. What do I have to do, go to Taco Bell? Sheesh!) The result is something way too hard. I have long been in search of a truly authentic Mexican restaurant in the Tampa Bay Area. After reading some reviews online, I made the drive from downtown St. Pete to this proverbial 'hole in the wall' in Pinellas Park. Boy was it worth it! The chips and salsa seemed homemade, and tasted more authentic than the stuff you get at your typical Mexican joint. With only 6 tables, limited decor, and tiny kitchen, it has the feel of a little street corner Bodega. I had three tacos (carne asada) and rice and beans. The food was excellent, and cheap! Nothing fancy atmosphere wise but the food was top of the scale and nice portions at a very reasonable price. Very authentic. There are 4 tables. No one speaks English. It's pretty dirty and almost left, but I wanted Mexican food so we stayed. The food was okay, but I think it was frozen and they just microwaved it and then put it on my plate. It was very inexpensive to eat there. I won't go back. read more
