Mole Tinga (chicken) Enchiladas: it's like a cinnamony Chipotle sauce, mixed with the sour cream it's extremely flavorful and delicious. With the refried beans and rice on the side, this was so good. Only thing I disliked is you can only choose 1 meat for all 3 tortillas. Tacos: tried the Tinga, Al pastor, and chorizo on flour tortillas. The Al pastor is the best, and Tinga second. The chorizo was pretty standard. When you dine in there are green and red sauces on the table. The red sauce is pretty spicy (coming from a Sriracha lover), but you need some sauce on the tacos if you don't order them as Supreme, or else they're a bit dry. Quick, good service. I love this place so let's get the free margarita thing out of the way first. Yeah they really are free but they're watered down and quite sweet. It would take 106 of them before I got any kind of a buzz. By that time I'd have margarita squirting out of my ears! So don't come here for the free drinks. Also don't come here for the atmosphere. It's a tiny little place with an open kitchen. It's so tight that sometimes the noise from the kitchen can be annoying. Every time I come here the first word that comes to mind is scurry. The wait staff is scurrying back and forth. The prep guy in the kitchen is scurrying. The cook is scurrying. Even the legions of takeout patrons are scurrying. This is one busy place so if you want a shot at a seat without a wait, be sure to arrive at an off time. Fortunately the hours here are loooong. So who cares about the free drinks? Forget about the atmosphere. Come for the amazing cheap Mexican food! The tacos are to die for. Order three for a very nice meal. The enchiladas and burritos are also excellent. Order something with mole sauce because the layers of flavor are amazing. Sometimes they have a heavy hand with the sauces so if that is a concern just order your sauce on the side. I have been working in the Conshy /Norristown area for a while now , and have frequented a lot of places. Conshy, I like how you are turning into a hot spot, good answer to the Philly joints I must say. El Limon is nothing but fantastic I tell you. With all the great restaurants in this area these guys are holding their own. I have been in here a few times , trying out different dishes seeing if I could find something , or anything wrong. I can't find anything , that means it is a must. Great traditional Mexican dishes to be devoured. I am going to try my best in not being repetitive here, but it is hard not to repeat. Like a fellow yelper and friend Steve S, had mentioned. Do not let the outside discourage you in coming in and trying them out. El Limon (The Lemon) serves some of the freshest chips with those salsas to add. Incredible taste with the salsa, along with their homemade guacamole this is an instant winning combination. Their tacos are fabulous, simply delicious with that homemade tortilla and not light on the fillings. These guys rank up there with another spot I know of on 9th St. What I recommend is the chicken with chorizo. Also dabbled in the carnita and beef tacos, Oh I am salivating here. Tender , juicy pork that every time you would sink your teeth into she would just melt in your mouth. The beef had a great taste to it, nicely prepared , mixed with the pork. HOMERUN ! Apparently, in my previous review, I could not stop talking about the chorizo... well, I still can't. El Limon has, in fact, become my go-to restaurant in Conshohocken; it doesn't matter if the occasion is a takeout lunch or a sit-down dinner at happy hour with friends, if it's food and Conshy, I will suggest El Limon. You can't get a more authentic taqueria in Conshohocken. The prices are all so cheap for the portion size that you are given--the burrito alone has got to be like 3/4 of a pound and most of the filling options make it cost around $7.95 total. I confess that I order the chorizo burrito almost every time I go (that tomatillo sauce is my lifeblood and I could drink it by the gallon), but I still maintain that the tacos are delicious. Another favorite of mine to order is the chicken tinga enchiladas, which come doused in the sauce of your choosing and a side of rice and beans. The corn tortillas are just as spectacular as the flour ones, and the tinga is perfectly shredded and tender. Definitely don't forget about the margaritas! They're served in the same large glasses as the water--I only drank one and wasn't reeling from the alcohol, but it's free, so I am ABSOLUTELY not complaining. NB I: the $10 minimum for credit cards, which is not always enforced--but I often add guacamole to my burrito ($1.50 extra) to get it up to the threshold (because I'm lazy and love plastic). Not too many people know but you can get free margaritas on the rocks if you sit down to dine. Shhh keep it a secret! It's pretty diluted for its flavor, but hey, free drinks are better than nothing! This is the best Mexican restaurant in the Philly area. While it's been over a year since I've lived in Philly and now I live in Houston (Mexican food paradise), I will stand behind this restaurant's food, service, and pricing. Get the nachos. They are delicious, made with American/Jack cheese, and nicely spicy jalapenos. The chips are thick and crunchy, not that weak thin junk you get at some of the more trendy, Americanized restaurants in Center City or at chains. I tend to like mine a little saltier than theirs, but overall a solid meal/snack. I got a carnitas and a pollo taco on corn. Please, PLEASE don't make the mistake by asking for a "hard shell" when they ask if you want corn or flour tortillas. They're already going out of their way to be polite and inform you that there are these two authentic choices. They come with generous helpings of meat, onion, cilantro, and refried beans (if you ask nicely). Tender meat and lots of flavor with just a few simple ingredients, just how it's supposed to be done. This is a family-owned restaurant, and it shows. Service is classy, with polite, attentive waiters and a smile for your business and money. I'd recommend leaving at least a 20% tip, because you rarely get this level of service in the Mid-Atlantic. Average home prices in Houston are -30% from Philly (believe me, my wallet knows), and everything is generally cheaper, so these prices well south of $10 for most items come as a pleasant surprise. It seemed like we spent most of our dinner trying to flag down the waitress, when we should have been enjoying our night off and our food. The menu has a nice variety of dishes guaranteed to satisfy everyone at the table. We tried almost all of their tacos and really liked the steak, chicken, and chorizo. Seafood tacos are available as entrees (must get 3 and can't substitute) - we had the fish but thought they were just okay. Out of curiosity we also got the steak sope, which came overflowing with meat and things. 5/5 satisfaction. I was skeptical of the meal being filling, but needless to say we'd definitely overestimated ourselves. This place is really just great. I'm so excited that my favorite type of restaurant - tiny, no-frills, fairly cheap with delicious tacos - is right down the street from me. The menu is small, but this way everything they make is with love and a ton of deliciousness. My favorites so far have been the carnitas tacos and the tortas. The first time I went, I got carnitas and chorizo tacos. Each taco is 2.50, and the tortillas were some of the best I've personally had and the amount of meat was proportionally very high. The chorizo was really good, but I would go back for the carnitas I think, because chorizo is good almost everywhere but it's not everywhere you can get both really flavorful and really tender carnitas. My torta de milanesa was slightly chewy (chewy steak, I mean), but had enough flavor and fresh veggies to make me happy. The only thing I have not liked there was the rice. It was a pretty small container, the same size as the ones for my salsas. A little on the bland side and a little chewy for my personal taste. However, everything else more than made up for it. The place has almost no traditional ambience, but the people that work there clearly love what they do and you will always have a full glass, a full stomach, and feel their effort in trying to make you satisfied. When I ordered red salsa with my carnitas, the guy stopped me and said I wanted the tomatilla salsa instead. I went with the chef, and he was SO right. I loved that he didn't hesitate to let me know how to get the most flavor out of my dish. Umm.. did I also mention the free margaritas?? And sangria, which was actually tastier than the margaritas. For a good portion of my 20's I'd frequent Fayette street during those happiest of hours (cheers!) and I can't recall there ever being an authentic Mexican joint around. In town yesterday, I dropped into El Limon for lunch, and what a great decision that was! I ordered the shrimp tacos, $10 and an order of chips and salsa, $4. Mmmmm, that salsa was delicious. Tiny bits of jalapeño provided a small kick and the tomatoes were incredibly fresh and full of flavor! Chips were fresh and airy, just the way I like them. My 3 tacos were overflowing with delicious shrimp. The portion was surprisingly large for it being seafood. The dish came with the standard rice and beans. Warning : the rice, which I almost didn't even try bc the tacos were sufficient was possibly the best part. As an avid fan of Mexican cuisine I think El Limon's rice is possibly the best I've had. Incredibly flavorful, I devoured it and ended up taking home the 3rd taco for dinner. El Limon is a great little restaurant that serves the authentic Mexican cuisine. I am so happy I ate here!! I tried the marinated chicken, steak, and chorizo tacos. I loved the soft shell (doubled so it doesn't fall apart) cheese and lettuce. The chicken was by far my favorite but all of them were very tasty. The burrito with mole sauce and the enchiladas were also big hits. Honestly I doubt anything you get from here wouldn't be great. I LOVED their homemade salsas. Green was a little sweet and the red was spicier. Great flavor and NOT watery at all!! It was delicious, I put them on everything!!! They give you free margaritas also. We visited El Limon and ordered: Tomato Soup Loaded Nachos Chicken Enchilada Chicken Burrito It was 6 pm on a Friday night and it was empty at first but filled up by the time we left at 7. The waitress' first language was Spanish which was a great sign that we were in for an authentic meal. The food came within 5 minutes and the loaded nachos were a pleasure for the eyes. The chips were recently made and had guacamole, cilantro, sour cream, and salsa. They were some of the best nachos I have ever had. My wife had the soup and shared only one spoonful. She felt it was flavorful. The entrees had huge portions and we only ate half of our plates and took the rest home. Compared to chipotle and Don Memos, the burrito was definitely a step above. El Limon is our go-to Mexican place. We first got attracted to this place as we were seated at the restaurant across the street (Chiangmai) and having dinner. On impulse, we were checking reviews of places close-by and El Limon stood out in having very high ratings. A few weeks later, we came back to the area - this time to El Limon and were very impressed with the quality and value of the food here. I ordered a Cubana sandwich which went for the princely amount of $8.50 and was very filling and perfectly done. My wife went with a Alambre with mixtos - a variety of different meats + shrimp. It was lip-smacking delicious. The portions of the alambre were also so substantial that we took a fair bit of it home and enjoyed it later on. Since then we have been here twice and - just to give you a sense of how much I have enjoyed the cubana - I have ordered it on both occasions. My wife has had the alambre once and the fajitas on another occasion and both of us have been happy with those food choices. Given that my Indian taste buds are used to significant spice levels, I have had to use some of their spicy sauces that are on the counter but with those added in, I have found the flavor profiles excellent. As the decor of the place and menu prices will tell you, this isn't trying to be a fancy sit-down place and so when it comes to service, there isn't much too much to write about. However, the servers appear friendly and are happy to oblige with requests. The reason for taking off a star is the slightly ridiculous prices on the additions. Last night my wife requested guacamole and cheese on the side with her fajitas and from what i remember, a small cup of guac (the size in which you might have some ketchup served to you) was $2.50 and a similar-sized cup for cheese was $2.00 - those prices seem a little insane and out of place with the rest of their pricing. Also, while I have always gone back for the cubana, I feel as though I enjoyed it the most the first time around and on the last two visits, I have enjoyed it a tad less. In particular, I like my food to be served hot and my sandwich buns to be nicely toasted, and I felt that the sandwich had achieved both to a greater extent the first time I had ordered it. I can't really remember how our first experience with El Limon went like, but let's just say it converted some family members from 'Meh' fans of Mexican food to 'ADDICTED' . My all time favorite thing on the menu that I pretty much get 90% of the time is their Loaded Nachos with Chicken Tinga. And of course, their guac is to die for (Bye bye chipotle guac). This place is not meant to charm you with its atmosphere, it does so with its food. Service here is amazing, showed up at 9:45pm right before closing and the owner insisted we stay, relax, and eat when we offered to get our order to go so they can close. Waters were kept full. Food: Gotta say my meats were super tender and well-flavored, only way they could've been better was if they had a pinch more salt or a quick crisping on a skillet to evaporate a little liquid off. They went pretty light on the onions and cilantro which is unlike other taco joints i've been to but they did go heavy on the meat which is a huge win. The chips were a little too thick and crunchy but the guacamole was pretty tasty and creamy. I thought the salsa fresca was perfect, a good balance of tomato, jalapeño and lime without being too onion-y. When you eat at El Limon, you are bathed in an aroma of perfect Mexican flavors. Each time my girlfriend and I go, we order chips and guacamole to start. Be sure to try the red and green salsas (in the squirt bottles on the table). They are sweet, hot, and fantastic! Within a few more minutes our dishes are already out. It's incredible how fast the dishes make it out. We've been on 3 occasions and each time our hot, steamy meals are out within 10 minutes. I constantly yearn for the fish tacos in a corn tortilla (flour if you want). But on my last visit, I tried the Alambre with carnitas. I've eaten a lot of Mexican food in my days (don't most Americans?) but I had never heard of the Alambre. The sweet mixture of peppers, onions, carnitas, and BACON topped with fresh Mexican cheese was astoundingly delicious. The dish hits a homerun by being served with corn tortillas. It's been difficult for me to find authentic Mexican food in the Philly suburbs. I'd say El Limon is the closest thing to good Mexican cuisine in the area. This is a very casual sit down. For being a small place, they have a decent amount of seating options and a bathroom. There's a parking lot just a few steps away as well. For the food, I ordered a side of chips and guacamole, three tacos (carnitas, carne asada, and el pastor), and a carnitas quesadilla. The guacamole was okay. It wasn't the best, but it definitely wasn't the worse I've had. I typically don't order guacamole when I go to restaurants since it doesn't beat the homemade version. El Limon's was decent though. I do wish the serving amount was larger. The tacos tasted as I hoped. The protein in them were cooked just right. They topped it off with onions and cilantro, which I always find delicious! My favorite item I ordered though was the carnitas quesadilla. It was filled with the perfect amount of juicy meat and melted cheese! It comes with a side of chopped tomatoes, sour cream and lettuce as well. This added a nice freshness to it! The guacamole and quesadilla paired quite nicely too. I definitely suggest dipping the quesadilla in the guacamole if you decide to buy both! Overall, I would definitely come back to El Limon. Delicious food that comes out fast! Everything we ate was seasoned well... vegetarian enchiladas, chicken taco supreme, vegetarian tostadas, rice and beans...all of it delicious! The margaritas are complimentary and are 2 per person. My husband said they had good flavor! We finished our dinner with a slice of tres leches and it was tasty! The dining room is on the small side. One table was loudly talking about things I would rather my toddler not hear but that is no fault of the restaurant.
