Kudos for a fastly prepared meal, but not impressed at all. Will not be returning. I had fish tacos and the creamy sauce and cabbage tipping was drenched in mayo and missing the vinegar. But the fish tastes old and just wasn't appetizing. As for my husband's meal, he ate the meal but doesn't typically eat rice, so when the waiter came to take his place he rudely proceeding to ask "you're not gonna eat the rest" referring to the rice and ample portion of lettuce and gauc. It was just really unconformtable and weird. Definately needs to learn some manner and waiter skills. This place must be really busy usually because we counted 13 waiters and waitresses just sitting around in booths. It was dead at 430 pm when we were there. read more

Service was prompt. The chips were warm and very good. The salsa was tasty but not quite as spicy as i personally prefer. I ordered an order of guacamole for any appetizer and was disappointed that there didn't appear to be any cilantro, tomatoes, or onions in it. For an entree, I ordered the Fajitas Jalisco and they were delicious and the portion was huge. Margarita was just OK but I certainly wouldn't complain for $3.50 All in all a very satisfying experience. read more

Stopped in for lunch in while running errands. Again, we were seated and the chips and salsa were on the table before we were settled. The drink orders were incorrect, as my wife received sweet tea instead of the water that was ordered, but nothing to make a big deal about. There was a mix-up with my wife's order. that was not the fault of the server, but the staff was quick to get my wife what she though she ordered. The original items that were brought was what was ordered. The interior is rather dated and some of the seats in the booths are torn, but IMHO, the food makes up for this. read more

My boyfriend and I have been to this restaurant many times and it never disappoints. The food here is always delicious and the staff is very friendly and fast. They are usually pretty busy on weekdays and always packed on the weekends. Theres a lot of different seating areas including an outdoor section and a bar area. The decor is nice too. read more

This restaurant was good when it was in the smaller building out in front of Belk. Since it moved a few years ago, it has slowly gone downhill. The service has gotten crappy, the salsa tastes like tomato sauce. Steak is chewy, chicken is dry. I hope they learn from their mistakes and improve things. read more

Being from central California, we were making sales calls in the county and happened to be in this town and felt the need for good Mexican food. We were informed by the locals that this restaurant was very good. So we stopped in and were NOT disappointed. The meal was delicious and felt we were at "home". The ambiance was very nice. This place has a good selection of vegetarian options for the non carnivorous person wanting some decent grub :-). Atmosphere and decor are very nice. A good competition for El Alteño Mexican restaurant not too far away. Either one is a good vegetarian option for hungry people looking for decent Mexican food. Great food and good service. The service is a little slow at times. Ask for Antonio, he's great. We eat there regularly since they have been in Springfield, and it's always good. My brother's mother in law said it was the best Mexican food she's had outside of California, and she's Mexican! I like the fajiitas or the taco salad. My wife likes the fish. For a change, ask for a small bowl of Pico to dip your chips in! Fantastic! For desert try the changos, a fried tortilla filled with a cream cheese mixture and served with ice cream. Worst service I've ever received. Took my daughter there yesterday. We waited about 5 minutes before I finally flagged down someone who wasn't even my waiter to bring us drinks. My order was wrong - rice in my burrito instead of a side of rice - and the waiter never checked on us - NEVER. i finally flagged him down when we were finished eating and asked for the check...that took him another 5 minutes. as i was paying at the front, the guy on the cash register asked me how it was. my waiter was standing right there, but by this point i was pissed and couldn't care less about his feelings, so i told the man the truth. the service was horrible. then i looked at my waiter and said "you know, i usually tip very well because i have a lot of friends in this industry...but today, i'm not leaving anything." i have never had such crappy service, and have never just not left a tip. will never go back to this place again...i will stick to los agaves in white house, tn, which is where my daughter wanted to go to begin with. read more

Since moving there have been some terrible days and some pretty decent days when we visit. Food is decent most of the time. Service is iffy. Junior is the best they have. The chips and salsa were good enough, but thats where it ends. Our waiter was really unpleasant. One of our friends specifically asked for no guacamole and extra chicken. When it came, it had guacamole and no extra chicken. No problem, so we point it out and the waiter threw his hands up and said "You're kidding, right?" in a really terse and snarky way. We told him that we wanted him to fix the problem. He snapped it up, took it away and in the exact time it took it dump it onto a fresh plate, he returned with it. With as unpleasant as he was, we were certain that he'd spit on it. We just told him to take it away and not charge us. I went to the manager who didn't t seem that concerned about the job performance of his waiter. We weren't being unpleasant or jerks about the food, we simply wanted it without guacamole and extra chicken. Ultimately, the food was forgettable, the service terrible, and an otherwise very nice night out with my friends slighted by this visit to El Molcajete. If you're local, skip this dog because there are much better choices in Springfield. read more

Just a bad experience at the door...totally ignored. The manager? And hostess were working on a seating chart ..he was berating her and ignored us. We then asked him to seat us...he ignored us some more and then finally & begrudgingly got the menus & seated us. The most important thing for us...and what we judge our meal will be like...is the salsa & chips. Salsa was bland & chips were cold & greasy! That was it ...we left. Never again.
