I don't know which tastes worse; the customer service or the thing they called "food". When my fiance and I walked in the interior seemed dated and bland. The lighting is dim and bland enough to give you a headache. That's probably why our waitress was so rude. She just gestured at us where to sit and stormed off. We didn't think much of it at the time. When it was time to order she got the chicken pasta and I ordered the ravioli with a beer each. After some time we were waiting for our drinks. We saw the waitress standing there like a zombie staring into the abyss. In fairness it was probably the bad lighting that had an affect on her barely-present brain. She reluctantly served up our drinks. Then it was time to enjoy the main course. Or so we had hoped. The ravioli tasted like cardboard with salt, drowned in some nondescript damp sauce. My fiance's chicken tasted like rubber. Clearly they sell frozen after-market food to their customers. When we brought it to the attention to the waitress, in her defense she just belched "everyone loves our food and no one complains ever!" as if we were wrong not to like half-assed food. Man, I had such high hopes for this one, especially since it's been here for over 30 yrs. We ordered 3 pasta plates and 1 chicken plate and everything was bland. Harvey has made all of us in the USA do things we may not on the reg, do. For me it was stay close to home, watching the TV as if my life depended on it. Well of course it did not. But it did for many 1000's of my fellow Americans in the Houston area. I had been with a friend to Dish earlier today and when we arrived to my place we realized that we were hungry. We have seen El Morfi standing tall on Brand Ave for years and for some reason decided to order in from them today. One reason is that we have been on an Empanada tear whether it be El Rincon Argentino here in Glendale or Buena Onda in Santa Barbara. The tragedy of Harvey has hit all of us pretty hard and after drinking Rose' and Scotch we needed some primo Carbs to see us through the night. EL MORFI means a perfect dining experience so let's see if that follows through with the grub i ordered via Yelp delivery. I ordered via Yelp a couple of things from El Morfi which i had hoped would satiate our hunger for Carbs: a couple of different Empanadas and an Argentinian style Pizza with ham. I set up a battle of the doughs: Empanadas vs Pizza. And how did El Morfi meet that challenge? I would say they met and beat the challenge. First of all the Empanadas were very delectable: the dough (these were fried) slightly sweet and buttery. The perfect carrier for the fillings of cheese and jalapenos and spicy beef. When we bit into the Empies they were jam packed with flavor and buttery pastry goodness which the frying oil did not demolish. The Chimichurri which came with the Empies was good not great in that all of the spices contained therein were dried rather than fresh though it was tasty. Good stuff! The pizza was a bit less successful in that the baking stiffened the dough a bit and it came out of the oven not as luscious as i would have hoped. The toppings were great though: Savory ham, big fat green olives and sliced red peppers. Yum. Though i do not order delivery very often i can only comment on a couple of things about this order. The food came within 45 minutes as stated and the delivery dude was as nice as could be. It is hotter than hell here in Glendale and this delivery guy was very nice and smiley and in a much better mood than i would have been, El Morfi came through with very good food in the stated time via a very cool dude. A quick lunch for us and this was a great stop. Seated and looking over the menu and the waiter would walk by the tables and show the out going plates to help us and others decide. I liked this and it really made ordering harder lol! Bread and beer to get started. I ordered the spinach and beef empanadas with a salad. There is a long list of fillings but I took the waiters advice and he was not wrong. Great flavors and crispy while soft dough on the outside. I used the sauce from the bread dish to add onto the empanadas. The sauce was like an olive oil Chimichurri mixture and we loved it. Nice atmosphere and staff here to make it a great get away for our lunch. The yelp check in for 2 glasses of free wine with a large dish made for couples will be another reason to come back and do a mini blog about this great place we found! This place is great! Saw that they had an empanada special so I decided to try it. I had the jalapeño and cheese and also a chicken empanada, they serve them with this amazing sauce called chimichurri. Since it was soooo good, I also decided to have the lasagna and OMG! It was an explosion of flavor! I will need to come back and try everything else! Their meats looked good, so I think that's what I'll try next. Management is horrible, the pregnant lady was so rude. If you hate your life then stay home. The one that took our order was pretty nice, but the pregnant manager was ridiculously rude. We ordered empanadas to go, we sat down to wait for them and we ended up just eating one because they were warm. She approached us and told us that next time if we want to eat there then to let them know because its an additional price. She kept on badgering us about it. Unreal food. I mean some of the best ravioli with pink sauce on the planet. Owner is extremely nice and an excellent host, always. I wanted to love this place with passion. I came once a it was amazing. The meat was so good! BUT ALL THAT CHANGED Today I had lunch here and it was literally a pile of dog poop. The steak was 21.99, literally a small cut of meat. The first time around they cooked it WELL DONE, when we specifically said MEDIUM RARE. The guy tried to make it seem like it was our fault for saying WELL, there's a huge difference there buddy, don't try to justify. And then the dry ass chicken was hard enough to be chicken jerky. Too expensive and poor quality food, it feels like they get their products out of a cheap provider somewhere with F quality. Portions are ok but not exuberant and tasty. I don't know how this place averages four stars. By Glendale standards, it's OK, but that's not saying much. The only good item was the Minestrone soup. For our entrees, I ordered a skirt steak and my friend ordered a T-Bone. My steak was OK, certainly not the greatest I've ever had, but passable. The garlic fries were a joke. They were just frozen fries covered in Chimichuri sauce. My friend's T-Bone was fatty, gray and generally disgusting. Based on the quality of the food, I'd probably never come back here, but the waitress nailed the lid in the coffin when she tried to argue with us about the steak. I asked her to exchange my friend's gross T-Bone for a skirt steak and she said she'd have to charge us for the T-Bone since it was half eaten. This was false. My friend had somewhat butchered the steak in an attempt to extract a few morsels of meat from the greasy slab of fat on her plate, but she hadn't eaten more than a couple of bites. I was in no mood to deal with an incompetent server, so I cut her off and explained that no, the steak was not in fact half eaten. If there was any further argument, we would have simply paid the check and left, but she finally came to her senses and agreed to exchange the steak. The damage inflicted by her clumsy, inadequate service, however, was irreparable. Here's a tip, restaurants. If a customer is unhappy with his food, gracefully offer to exchange it or remove it from the check. Don't get into a petty argument with the customer about exactly how many bites he's eaten. When you argue with the customer about this, you're implying that he's trying to scam you. This implication is insulting and tends to ruin the experience, causing the customer to not want to return to your establishment. As I mentioned, in this instance, I wasn't planning to return anyway, but if they hadn't pissed me off, I probably would not have written this review. My recommendation is to NOT patronize this establishment. If you must, I'd suggest you order the skirt steak and the Minestrone soup. There may be other decent items on the menu, but due to the service, I wouldn't waste my time giving it another try. read more

Last weekend, my alpaca and I were on a book hunting escapade that took us to Glendale. As you can well imagine, all that book hunting made us hungry. We decided to take a chance on this Argentine restaurant up the street from the Brand Bookstore. I've always enjoyed Argentine food and have never been let down by Argentina's fine cuisine. Sure enough, this restaurant was very enjoyable. Attentive and polite service; a warm, comfortable atmosphere; above all, great food makes El Morfi a must in Glendale. I had the entrana with some Provenzal fries (fries topped with chimichurri and garlic) - simply delicious! There isn't much more to add - the food speaks for itself. Next time you walk down Brand Boulevard, do yourself a favor and have a meal at El Morfi. read more

First time here and I loved it! The beef empanadas are way better than the chicken! The pollo millanesa is cooked to perfection and is absolutely delicious. This place has the best Tripas a la plancha I have ever had! Happy hour from 4pm-8pm. The staff is older but very nice. The place is small with only 3 parking spots at the rear entrance but there is paid meter parking in the front and rear of the restaurant. You have to ask for salsa if you like spicy food. Only bad thing is they only serve beer and wine with a limited selection. But they do carry Inka Cola lol There's a medium size tv so I am assuming they show the Argentina soccer games there ;) read more

Okay, so Idk how to make this a 2.5, but yes, I give this place a 2.5. Short answer--I'm full but not satisfied. One thing I like is that we got more warm bread and chimichurri (my first time trying those) after we finished our first basket and the salad... oh & free refills! We ordered the calamari to start.. my bf didn't like the breading cos it was crumby.. he's picky with those. He got the New York steak, medium, and according to him, the taste was good but texture-wise, it was hard for a medium... it was more like very well-done. And when he asked and clarified multiple times that the rice was plain white rice, he got white seasoned rice. He complained of his meal throughout and rated it at 2 and said he would not come back. My babyboy and I shared the meat marinara tube pasta and it was just an average tasting pasta, nothing special.. good portion though. And I also had the beef empanada which was good, at first bite it was like a carne asada taco inside a warm, flaky bread. As for service, my hubby and I would agree on a 1... or less. The place was near empty, 3 tables were occupied, us and another family behind us, and 1 with a Sprint employee taking a nap. Lol. We had to get up to the counter for everything we needed.. butter, refill, asking for our check 3 times.. or nearly yelling 'excuse me' for to-go boxes... So yeah, I read almost every review before we came and I insisted we try this place but I'm disappointed. At least we tried something new! read more

We walked in and the place was pretty much dead. We ordered our food, both of us ordered empanadas and milanesas. We were quite pleased when the empanadas came out because they were quite large. It seemed like a great value for only $2. But, when you bite into them, you see why they're $2. The filling is pretty limited and it's mainly air and dough. They were pretty good, but not the greatest. When the milanesas came out, it looked "meh". There wasn't much sauce, cheese or ham, but it did look large. The meat had really little taste, it wasn't hot and it just lacked flavor overall. The mashed potatoes were from a box. Our server didn't check up on us during dinner. We ordered soda (which came in a can) and no one offered us water or anything. It took quite some time to get the check as well. I wouldn't come back here. read more

Go for the lunch specials. They range from 6-10 dollars and are a good value. The bread they serve with the garlic pesto is also verrry tasty. Small family own place with very simple food and bomb-ass sangria! This is probably my favorite place to eat in Glendale well aside from Porto's... The empanadas are good, we usually get them as appetizers but their bread with the chimichurri sauce is great! Usually I order the Chicken Ravioli in a tomato and cream sauce ($10). The ravioli is really well seasoned and the dish is large enough to definitely fill you up. Other than the ravioli, we usually would get something from the Today's Specials. Some of the Special's that we've had and loved were the Pork Chop which was super succulent and Filet Mignon, which was nicely grilled and only $13!! Service is great although not always perfect... one of the waiter spilled water everywhere before. Did I mention that the sangria is delicious??!!! We always get a carafe or two... Great food, but pricey. There is a lot to park but I believe it's all meter parking in that area since it's a busy place. I highly recommend their empanadas and the calamari! We've been coming here for years to celebrate special occasions. The tiramisu cake was tasteful as well. Only bad thing I noticed was that they were understaffed and they usually get quite busy during dinner time so there was a small lack in service because of that. Hopefully on other days they have more staff to accommodate their hungry fans. read more

My experience here was okay. It wasn't anything special, and I didn't feel like I had come to an ARGENTINE restaurant. Maybe I just didn't get the right stuff. The chimichurri sauce was good, yes, and the ham and cheese empanada was nice, but I've had better elsewhere. The El Morfi sandwich was nice, but plain, and the "provenzal fries" were just regular french fries. Hard to go wrong with those. My whole experience there was just OKAY.
