We stop there for lunch upon arrival from Santa Fe after looking at the menu on Yelp. I had the Korean Bulgogi bowl which was great. My wife had the Ahi tuna sandwich which she really liked. The waiter was very nice so don't understand some of the poor reviews. We felt very welcomed and the food was tasty. read more

We got into Durango late Sunday evening. Few things were open, but Moro was. We went for dinner. The drink menu has some delicious cocktails. Dinner menu was eclectic with American and some international entrees & appetizers. We returned because food and service was excellent. Alex & Tiffany were outstanding! Ate here tonight. Service was average, no complaints with this. First impression of the place was positive, but the food was disappointing. I ordered the El Moro Burger, which smelled strongly of fish and had a stale bun, this was questionable but I ate it as I hate to throw out food and gave it the benefit of the doubt. My girlfriend ordered the prickly pear margarita salad, which was merely a bed of arugula with a small side of meat, nothing else. My other friend ordered another sandwich and was severely disappointed with the quality of the fries as well as some of the cuts of pork within, mine were stale but his were considerably worse. I would not recommend this place for eating, but maybe for drinks. read more

This place is amazing!! Alottie (sorry if it's spelt wrong) was our server and she was the best! Always checking on us and kept our drinks filled. I started with the Colorado mule. This is a must order! My fiancé got the draft beer Steamworks Colorado kolach which also taste pretty good. We ordered the (KFC) Korean Fried Cauliflower and honey sambal Chicken Lollipops to start with. We received the spicy glaze on the side, and I'm glad too the fried cauliflower tasted best with the sambal sauce. The lollipops were amazing I'll get these every time I come back!! I then ordered the symmetry. This drink was good a little strong for my taste. We then got our sandwiches. Both tasted amazing, but I was so full that I couldn't finish. Unfortunate experience. May seem trivial to some, but they added a "3.00% surcharge" to the bill above the subtotal line. However, when I did the math, the surcharge was in the post tax amount (along with tip calculation). Very deceptive!! By basic accounting practice the subtotal is all above and then tax is added. This is unfortunate because the server was good as well as the food. Update response to Sean's counter: Sean, exactly not the case, please post the bill. I did not take a pic, but my bill was exactly $40 pre-tax. The surcharge was $1.30. (3% is $1.20). When I inquired, I was told it was on post tax and that is the difference. Also all suggested tip levels were also post tax (less of an issue as these are suggestions). And by the way, the bill was returned with the surcharge removed. So yes, post the bill that shows no surcharge as that i what I paid. Also for clarity, I tipped $17% (20% minus the 3% on the credit card payment). Then when I realized the 3% was removed, I left an additional $5 bill on the table for the server (name started with a "P"). This was not a money issue, but principal. So I left a 29.5% tip, before others think is was a money issue. I am happy to post the AMEX statement showing what I paid and support my claim. read more

Top notch, satisfaction. That is all that needs to be said about this place. Our server was Pablo and he was great all around. The true romance is a unique, spicy cocktail and the old fashion is a good finish to the end of the night. The charcuterie board was spectacular and full of flavor. The peanut butter ice cream with fried plantains was light and sweet to curb that sweet tooth. First, I will disclose that my wife and I are big time review readers and writers good or bad. This was our third trip to Durango, this time for my birthday. I reviewed many restaurants for my birthday dinner and wanted to try one we hadn't been to before, which El Moro was one. I read many reviews on this place and felt confident that it would be really good...I was so wrong. We know that times are a little tough for some businesses as good workers are hard to find that want to work and turnover is high. But this wasn't the issue...it was the food, staff, and the management. From all the pictures and reviews the food and presentation this place looked like a little bit on the higher scale for Durango. My wife ordered the NY strip, medium rare and I was interested the jerk lamb shank. I asked the waitress how the lamb was cooked and she said oh it's slow roasted and it was fall off the bone tender. I was excited and ordered it. The place was not very busy but it took longer than expected to get our plates...we were not in a hurry and enjoyed a couple of drinks. When our plates came out it looked good...we then took our first bites...my wife said her strip had zero seasoning and then said this isn't a strip, it's a sirloin...I looked closer and agreed. She tasted her mashed potatoes and they were barely warm. I cut a piece of the lamb and immediately realized that it was far from fall off the bone and wreaked of smoke....it wasn't slow roasted, it was slow smoked! I smoke a lot of meats like brisket and ribs and this lamb shank had more smoke on than any piece I've ever cooked. After a few minutes all I could smell on our table was smoke. My wife never likes to complain but she asked the waitress to speak to the manager. After a few minutes the manager comes and my wife starts with we aren't asking to be comped but why does this strip look like a sirloin steak and why does it have no seasoning whatsoever. The manager said, well it's supposed to be a strip, and I said strips are normally long and narrow hence the name. She agreed and said, well the cooks are new. What?! They don't know a NY strip from a sirloin? And don't know how to season a steak? Then I asked her why the lamb was smoked, nowhere on the menu does it mention smoke...and not a little smoky, it's heavily smoked...that's all I can smell now. She said oh that's the jerk seasoning...I said, seriously! Then I said, the waitress told me the lamb was fall off the bone tender...then I cut a piece off with my knife and fork and showed her and asked does that look like fall off the bone?...she said no. We both only had one or two bites of our entrée and the manager apologized and asked if we would like to order anything else, but we had been there a while and decided to go elsewhere so asked for our check. We did tell her that we believe in giving constructive criticism good or bad as appropriate. She did thank us for that. These entrées weren't cheap and we don't mind paying for good quality food. The worst part is the manager didn't even offer to remove the charge for the entrees! Instead, she offered us a gift card and said we hope you come back and give us another try. We told her that we were from Florida and likely wouldn't be back for another couple of years. She gave us a blank stare, and told the waitress to get our check. No reduction at all. When the waitress came with our check, she asked it the manage took care of us? We both looked at her and emphatically said No! To top it off they have this kitchen thing where when customer buys the kitchen a round of beer (why?) they ring bells, bang cymbals, blow horns really loud, and exclaim some garbled phrase! This happened like three or four times while we there, the first time totally unexpected, nearly knocking me out of my chair...really obnoxious! More like something you'd expect to find in a redneck bar. I asked the manager why they did this and told her that it was really annoying and an obnoxious thing to do in decent restaurant...then she said I'm new and was told they have done it for a while! Drove 7 hours to lovely Durango to experience the touristy downtown area. Called them to see if they had patio dining. When asked if we need to make a reservation they said we just come on in and the wait time is 30 minutes. We get over there and go to ask for a seat and they said it was an hour and a half wait and asked if we had made a reservation. The hostess was rude when we said we called and the gentleman said they didn't take reservations on the phone. I'm sure the food was great but we didn't get to try it thanks to their disorganization, miscommunication and down right nasty attitude when they screw potential customers over and the customer expresses their irritation at being treated rudely . read more

We may have found the place in town with more beer offerings than Lady F's. My husband chose the Avery White and I selected the Weihenstephaner Premium Ale--both excellent. For dinner (Happy Anniversary, us!) my husband had the Cuban sandwich substituting a salad for the fries. I had the duck breast special--slices of beautifully prepared breast layered in a bed of polenta and chipotle. Both dishes were excellent. The duck nearly melted in the mouth and while the chipotle was too spicy for my husband I found it smoky and sweet. The sandwich was fantastic--the bread was crispy, buttery, and cheesy with a generous filling of sliced pork and pickles. Awesome! The wait staff was very attentive--we will definitely be back for small plates with out of town friends--especially our beer-loving ones. I think they'll be impressed. read more

We just had the greatest meal at El Morto Tavern. To start off our meal we had a delicious handcrafted cocktail followed by the KFC ( Korean Fried Cauliflower) appetizer...so delicious! I ordered the Bulgogi which was a bulgogii marinated tri tip served with ginger lime rissotto and fried bok choy. For desert, I ordered the coffee cardamom brownie with vanilla ice cream.
