Came up to Durango from Albuquerque for an overnight and had dinner at El Moro. It was exactly what I wanted for the evening. The service was amazing, Greg was awesome! I had the Barnes Family Chardonnay, my sister had the Pardon my French specialty drink - a red wine drink served warm. They were both so good. The food was,"oh my goodness good." I had Prawns and Pasta with a side salad. The greens in the salad honestly tasted as though they were pulled from the ground today and i loved fig vinaigrette. The pasta was an ideal portion. My sister had the soup of the day, an onion soup on the creamy side, made with a bourbon barrel stout and Burrata made with heirloom tomatoes, a balsamic reduction and a wonderful crusty bread. The atmosphere and decor was a style that is my favorite. Go, eat, enjoy. While my date this evening was my sister, this place is such a perfect date night. My sister and I decided to have breakfast here on Saturday. It seem to be a good decision based on reviews from other customers. Quite frankly I was very disappointed. It was prepared the way we ordered but the cut of meat was not what I expected. Pretty fatty and chewy. I love martinis. I ordered a dirty martini no vermouth. This spot was so unique and yummy. The menu had an amazing unique twist different from your normal everyday foods. The atmosphere was great, the servers were friendly and formal but also casual at the same time, which I liked. Wow.. The worse service ever. Not that you get good service in Durango to begin with.. but this was probably the worst experience ever in any town. The host had an attitude problem with giving us the seat we asked for then comes the food which is below average and the quality and atmosphere of this place is not as good as the stars they've received. You'll get much better service and quality of food at Eolus or any other restaurants in town. Hope the staff can afford to travel outside this town and learn how to give service to clients who actually will spend money if you are nice to them... Zero customer service here...!!!! read more

Just the cozy exposed brick, towering bar shelves, good beer and cocktail selection, solid tavern cheeseburger with fried we were looking for having arrived in Durango from the East after driving over a snowy Wolf Creek Pass at 10,856 feet above sea level to get here. well. service was absolute trash. we were seated promptly and given menus and then set for over 10 minutes after we were done with the menus for anyone to come take our order. which isn't that long except for the fact they were pretty empty and we watched 4 employees stand around bullshitting while we waited. then they served us what seemed like a week old coffee cake (for $750). when the drink i ordered never came i ordered it again. it still didn't come so i flagged down another waiter and asked for my drink. then. at literally my LAST BITE of food my actual waiter brought me my drink i originally ordered. after we finished eating. we waited over 10 mins for someone to bring the bill before finally grabbing the either hostess or manager to bring the bill. note to diners. a breakfast burrito is a workers breakfast. no amount is fancy tortillas or fancy menu wording makes one worth paying $18 for a breakfast burrito. so chose one of the benedict's that are actually pretty good. wouldn't repeat. read more

If I returned here I may be tempted to just order the appetizer honey sambal chicken. Seriously they are one of the best chicken dishes I've had in my life. The pork chop was good but not noteworthy. The scotch eggs are also super good and worth it! We sat outside a little later in the eve and it was nice even though you're on the street. Word of advice to beer lovers- most of it is bottled. They have full far but limited beers on tap. Super friendly server and a great coloring sheet for kids. Highly recommended! read more

I am simply obsessed with El Moro. My husband and I have had pretty much everything on the menu and there's a reason we keep coming back. Food- outstanding, you cannot go wrong. My personal favorites are the Chicken Lollipops, Green Curry Mussels, Hanger Steak, Scallops, and Salmon. The icing on the cake is always the drinks... best bartenders in town! So creative and detailed. We have also had every drink on the menu and once again you cant go wrong. They are constantly changing their drink menu, currently featuring Tiki cocktails - You have to try them! You wont be disappointed! Also, props to them for killing it during the shut down, we still got to enjoy their culinary talent from our own home. Go see what the rage is all about! P.S. Okay, so I will start by acknowledging how hard it can be to find great restaurants while traveling through the southwest. That said, this was absolutely our favorite restaurant we've been to while traveling through Utah and southwestern Colorado. In fact, it might be one of my favorite restaurants ever--and that's coming from Oregon where food and beverage are in a class of their own. First off, the setting is so cool. They've done a great job preserving the history of this place (read about the Strangest Shooting at El Moro) while also making it a warm, inviting modern atmosphere. Second, their service is great. Our server was so friendly and very helpful in giving honest recommendations in what to order. We ended up getting several appetizers and making a meal out of it: the corn chowder, the smoking hot toast, the chicken lollipops and the Thai mussels. Everything was outstanding, would definitely order again. We also got a couple cocktails which were equally as great. If you're not catching my enthusiasm for this place yet, I'll spell it out for you: you need to go here. If you do anything in Durango, do this. We will be back! read more

This is the go to place in Durango, the one everyone recommends. We sat at the bar just for a drink, bartenders were friendly enough. I had an adequate lemon drop martini and Pablo asked for a shot of Garrisons small batch bourbon. No one mentioned that the Garrisons was $44 dollars a shot, I guess we were expecting about half of that. The food around us look good and the late crowd were enjoying themselves. Stopped in here for a quick lunch on a road trip, and was pleasantly surprised by what may be the absolute finest Baja style fish tacos I've ever had in my life, without actually being in Baja. Please note that some of the menu pictures here may be out of date and prices are a little higher to adjust for losses during the pandemic, but it is absolutely worth every penny and would still be worth it if it was a couple dollars more on top of that. The pineapple salsa was great, and the side salad was totally fine, with quality greens and a variety of other small cut vegetables. 10/10, stuck the landing. This was my 4th time eating at El Moro Tavern and every time has been a highlight of dining in Durango! Last night I started with a new cocktail, The Orchard, that tasted like fresh apples picked off the tree this morning, with a little "kick" to make it even more delicious! Our starters were the Sausage soup with was so delicious. My husband and I did the the dry rubbed pork chops with were superb. For dessert, my husband had the fried plantain and peanut butter chocolate chip ice cream which was amazing while my son and I tried the Mille Feuille, a rustic take on a classic French classic- tres superb! The waiter was fantastic, food was incredibly unique and delicious, and drinks were top tier. The manager was one of the rudest people I've ever had the displeasure of trying to work with. Tried to celebrate a special event (my wedding), and had a lot of people coming into town. She wouldn't respond back to numerous emails or phone calls weeks in advance to try to book tables or even a few hours at the place (and was willing to pay their booking fee) which I understand, she's busy. When we finally did connect, she told me that I could not book the few hours like before, but I'd have to pay 2.5 times more and rent out the space for the whole day. I said, I cannot do that, so she explained I could only book 15 people at a time (even though two weeks prior she said i could have twenty). She told me i was too last minute, and when i tried to explain to her that i tried to book ahead of time, she took great offense and proceeded to raise her tone. I quickly apologized, not trying to offend, just had heard good things about this place and wanted a nice brunch. She gave me the of rules we had to follow for 15 people, that we could not sit together, do not stand in the way of "paying guests," and dont dare ask to split the check, as "we already doing a lot for you." i arrived 4 minutes late in a panic, knowing she would be mad, as she had already turned away a group of 4 of my great aunts, older ladies, saying there was no space, and saying if im not there, they cannot be accepted in. I did not get to sit with my friends or family, but a small table of 4 of us, but to top it all off, she tried to find me to yell at me and talk to me about what i had done to her, but luckily my friend took over, because I could not stop crying. I just wanted to celebrate an event and was made to feel like I was the worst human in the world. On the flip side, Carvers across the street took our entire group (since they felt more welcome, a group of my cousins came which totaled about 50 people), and everyone ordered tons of food and drink there. After such an unpleasant experience, we joined them for drinks and had a wonderful time. The servers were friendly and the manager welcomed the business, and we left them a significant tip, which they rightfully deserved. I work in the customer service industry, and i know people can be difficult. I was not trying to be difficult, just wanted to relax after the wedding, and was made more stressed and left in tears, which i believe should never have happened. After your response "Sean," I think an apology for turning my aunts away and making me cry would have been nice instead of saying it didn't meet our expectations. Fine dining in a casual setting. So I ate here last night for the first time and it was simply amazing. I walked in thought to myself "what kind of crappy bar food will I get here?" and found myself very shortly eating my own words. Happily the food here is of a very high quality which matches the price. My Boyfriend and I had, curry fries essentially potato logs and a sweet curry dip for the appetizer. I really like the unusual curry dip twist, it wasn't too sweet nor too spicy. For dinner I had the seared scallops which were perfectly cooked, on top of purple mashed potatoes surrounded by asparagus and a cream sauce I've never had before but adored called a vermouth cream. It was just mouth watering good. My Boyfriend had the fresh house made pasta that came with ground sausage, roasted kale, red pepper flakes and a lemony cream sauce. My Boyfriend raved about it, saying it was the best meal he has had in a long time. I tried it and agreed the pasta was very good. Even though we were both thoroughly full we decided to try dessert. I got their quarky take on s'mores and he got the apple crisp with strawberry rhubarb icecream. The apple crisp was good and also exactly what I expected. The s'mores was more unusual and definitely worth trying. The mouse wasn't too sweet as they sometimes are, maybe they intended it to be less sweet because the sweet marshmallow fluff layer in the middle provides plenty of sweetness. The spiced cookies that come with it are just simply delish especially when dipped into the mouse. The whole thing is a wonderful unique twist on the old fashioned s'more. I loved this place and see myself returning regularly to try more of thier great food. Here's a tip, try their homemade orange cream soda, it's a surprising treat. read more
