It was a pleasure to be accommodated without reservation (not recommended as this is a busy place) to sample a recasting of a long-time Santa Fe area restaurant that was closed down for many years. I must say the remodel effort on the interior of this old adobe building is stunning. No expense, decor or guest comfort planning has been overlooked. From the waiting areas to the several dining rooms, patio and bars, this feels like a world class restaurant. I live between foodie cities San Francisco, Manhattan and Santa Fe. The quality and preparation of each dish we ordered here ... clear to the finish line dessert ... were all excellent and for a higher end fare very reasonably priced. We ordered Filet and Salmon on this occasion. The chef prepared them perfectly. The tiramisu was light and offered a hint of character that usually happens when lady fingers are soaked in something with a nice bourbon or brandy. I will happily recommend this wonderful restaurant to many, and all the guests I have up to Santa Fe will be fortunate to dine here. Thank you. read more

We are so glad El Nido is back--and our meals last week were very good indeed! Concerned after a few negative reviews since the 1st chef left, I was apprehensive, and a bit hesitant to take my new-to-SF friends there--but we all loved it. We appreciated the the spare but lovely decor, our efficient waitstaff led by Amanda, and the uniformly good food--& some items bordered on great. Loved the warm & crunchy chickpeas as a appetizer. My branzino on a bed of barley was outstanding, and the wilted spinach on that plate was just excellent. Husby's gf pizza was better than many he's had, and those who shared oysters were very happy with that order. She who ordered the pasta Cacio e Pepe could NOT stop talking about how great it was. My wife a I attended a birthday party there last Saturday afternoon. It was a party of 7 couples. The wait staff was excellent and helpful. The problem was with the hostess, very rude. We sang happy birthday and she asked us to quit down. When we were leaving, she stated to us that we over welcomed are stay. Hard to believe after splitting a $1400 bill. I won't go back. The Mercedes-Benz Club of America, NM Section, recently finished a long drive through the Jemez ending in Tesuque Village at El Nido. Calling two weeks in advance landed us a beautiful private back room for 20 that was quiet and served as a perfectly intimate setting for Club members to enjoy the evening's vittles. This is the third time I have personally been to El Nido, and it has not disappointed. The service was great, the variety and quality of the food was top notch, and the atmosphere lives up to all of the Santa Fe area romanticism that causes people to drive over an hour from Albuquerque just for a meal. One of our favorite meals when we recently visited Santa Fe! Our server was great, and offered 2 wine suggestions to pair with my entree- providing samples of each so I could select my favorite. We started with SCAMPI ALL AGLIO PICCANTE. My husband ordered the Scottish Salmon, and I ordered the Bison Short Ribs. And we even made room for dessert - flourless chocolate cake with ice cream. Everything was delicious, and the ambiance was relaxed and comfortable. It was pricey compared to other meals in Santa Fe, but it was worth it! The restaurant can only offer curbside service due to the State's Coronavirus restrictions. We have utilized our neighborhood favorite and been extremely happy and pleased with their creativity and selections. And Easter we dined on their Easter breakfast basket which was phenomenal.. Pork, chicken and ahi tuna way over cooked and dry. Not a good start. The shrimp appetizer is great, the "almost caesar salad" is pretty lame. The pastas seem okay, but that's about all you can say about the food, just okay to not-so-much. The ambience is very nice and the staff are really great but overall very disappointed in that you have to find the two or three things they might do well and stick with that. While that's okay it's not the sign of a great or even good restaurant. It'll do but that's all. When I think of eating out El Nido is not going to be on the list unless I simply don't want to go downtown where there are so many better restaurants. Color me disappointed. read more

Wife had the Tomahawk pork chop and it was very good. However, the menu stated mashed sweet potatoes was a side dish. There were no sweet potatoes when served. I drew this to the attention of the waiter and he brought out later a side of mashed sweet potatoes, by layer I mean after we had completed our meal. I ordered Linguini with clams and Chorizo. Cute little restaurant that is perfect for both a romantic dinner or a simple night out. The menu features a variety of delicious, handmade foods that will tempt any palette. I had an arugula salad with salmon and my partner had one of the specials, a risotto cake with shrimp. I had heard soooo much rave about this place I had to go. I took my entire family and paid $400 plus for a meal that should of been much less! Oysters came and immediately smelled rancid. Both my husband and I had the filet mignon . Ordered medium rare, came well done. The server was excellent and very caring for my grandchild even serving him immediately. El Nido has a great outdoor seating area. Actually it has 2 distinct outdoor areas and both are very nice. The food was quite good also. The two problems we encountered were drinks took longer than expected ("the bar is a long way away") and bread is a $10 extra. When asked about this the answer was that their bread is artisan bread. Nido's menu has a price point that should and could easily include a basic bread, especially with the pastas. We all felt that the server definitely pushed the bread along with another server (our server said he was a busser, not a server) who pushed the bread service too. read more

We ate here last night. They've only been open again fir two weeks and are killing it with service, cocktails, wine and food! Had a fantastic old fashioned made by Johnny, the outstanding tempura chick peas, caprese salad, asparagus wrapped in prosciutto topped with a poached egg. Burger for my husband, scampi for me, all just perfect. The owner, Rob, stopped by twice to see how things were as did the general manager at the end of the night. Exemplary! The setting is simple, warm, and elegant. We were greeted with a smile and immediately shown to our table. Great selection of cocktails and appetizers. The Caesar salad was classically grilled and had stellar flavor. I ordered the filet mignon and my date had the lamb shank. Both were equally impressive. The lamb shank was hearty, moist, and came right off the bone. The filet was one of the best I have ever had; perfectly cooked and it seemed to dissolve in my mouth like butter. Great flavor and deliciously grilled shrimp as well. I didn't think I would have room for dessert. My wonderful server, Melissa, convinced us to try some of their specialties. I had Tiramisu and my date had the house special, "The Nest." Tirimisu was one of the best ever. The Nest was a scrumptious collection of chocolate, fruit, gelato, and and amazing sauce that was poured over it to melt the chocolate "dome." Absolutely amazing! read more

The new operators have worked hard to create a pleasant environment, and the front of the house staff were nice, and eager to help. Alas they were let down by the kitchen; my date ordered a steak medium rare, but it arrived well done. I ordered the octopus special with a vegetable medley, and spicy sauce. Unfortunately it was burnt, and a bit too dry for my liking. The wine lists were average, with little imagination or anything to differentiate from the local liquor store. The rest of our party were European, and had less than wonderful dining experiences. We skipped desert, and I don't expect to be back until they shake up the kitchen staff and replace the chef. Recently returned; and the food is much better, the service was very good. BUT, the hostess wanted to seat us on the patio, and it was hot and 85F. So we said how about the empty bar? No; we were seated in the main dining room, adjacent to the kitchen, where the temperature had to be at least 90F. Eventually they turned the Air Conditioning on, but it was way too late. The management should turn the AC on before guests arrive for dinner; and perhaps re-train the greeter, to learn to take a hint or respond to an out right request. read more

Su Sushi Restaurant at El Nido, Tesuque, NM. I will be brief and to the point. When you make reservation, they give you the scoop right off the bat. It costs $95/person, drinks extra. They don't have a menu to check out what you might expect for $95/person because it is Omakase style which means "trust" the chef on whatever it might be he will be serving you. Okay, surprises can be fun, especially for people who aren't always sure what to order. There were 5 courses...the first being a tiny salad of room temperature and limp cumber and one little cauliflower floret they was sitting on a counter in the dining room uncovered and room temperature amongst the several that had been pre-prepared. Course No. 2: a plate of 3-4 different kinds of raw fish that could not have been anymore fresh!!! No sauces or presentation other than this beautiful fish sitting on a bed of wilted lettuce. Course No. 3: a bowl of soy broth soup that was very flavorful. Course No.4 - Main Entre: a pile of cold, plainly boiled soba noodles, 3 pieces of vegetable tempura that had been fried in a grease that had fried fish or who knows whatever. Anyway, didn't eat it because grease was nasty tasting. I asked server..."where is the sushi, there is no sushi in main entre. She said this wasn't a sushi restaurant and I asked her how in the heck did I get confused thinking it was. Okay, Course No. 5...desert Which was a custard with what may have been a puréed topping. Okay! That's all...No, not quite. I ordered a hot sake that was $17/carafate. When I got the bill, she billed me a sake that was $27. She told me that was the only sake they could actually make into hot sake. She went to the kitchen manager and returned and apologized that she was give. Wrong information. So, point I'm trying to make, 5 course meal that normally is one with approximately 4-5 oz. fish for $95. My bill was nearly $300 for 2 people. Go figure! read more

The last two times I've eaten here have been dreadful. On Friday eve. three of us had dinner. I ordered the steak frites, medium rare. My partner ordered the red shrimp. My steak was so overcooked it was inedible. I switched entrees with J., and his shrimp was half-cooked. After a wait they brought a new steak for me, and never brought the re-cooked shrimp. They took the shrimp off the bill, but it was such an unpleasant experience that the "free" steak wasn't worth it. I would never go back. The prior meal had us arguing with the manager about candy on the poached pear salad and the fact that the pears were canned. We got nowhere. The only reason we went back was that our host was on his way to Taos, and the restaurant was convenient. read more

We've been waiting since last year to go to El Nido and it was worth the wait. Not only was the service incredibly attentive but the food was outstanding. From the outset with baked artichokes and scampi aglio piccante starters we were very impressed. We had grilled rainbow trout which was delicious. Limoncello Rotisserie chicken and Kobe Beef Hamburger exceeded expectations. The outdoor dining area was spacious and beautiful. Overall the vibe was friendly and peaceful. On Friday,July 14,2017, I had had a good fortune of selecting El Nido,a restaurant in Tesuque,to be be a place to meet with some business friends. I say "Good Fortune" because my friends and I were pleasantly surprised be how welcoming and friendly the place was.I could have not chosen a better place for the evening. El Nido had everything. A clean and enjoyable facility, a very friendly staff and a killer menu. Oure server, Edward, was a text book of greatness. They started us with a complementary glass of Italian Proseco sparkling wine. I ordered the Salmon with Safron Risoto; it was the most enjoyable salmon dish that I ever had. My friends could not stop praising the restaurant,the staff and the menu. And on top of all that, the owner of the restaurant was making the rounds and visiting with patron in a positive egangement and making sure that all expectations were being met. He was,also very friendly with his team which explain why the place was friendly. when the owner came to our table, he introduced himself. Anthony was his name. Athony asked if everything was ok. After a brief conversation about the restaurant and its history, Athony thanked us and we did the same to him. My friends and I left the restaurant satisfied and impressed by the quality of service and the food.The patio was one of my favorite space during daylight hours,but the indoor space was equally notable for. It's upscale qualities. My friends will be taking their families to El Nido and as fo me, El Nido is now on top of my restaurant choices. Sad. El Nido was a bright star for the first six months of its life. But it appears that they have lost the opening chef and the food and service have gone from sublimely wonderful to barely mediocre. Salads (caesar, burrata, fig) were poor. Dressings were off and there was no "there there". Pastas were sticky, gooey messes that were overly rich and non-distinctive. The steak was a small piece of meat on a plate with nondescript vegetables. Desserts were an embarrassment. Service was slow. Took an hour to get entrees. Again messy and confused. Sorry to say that the sun has set on El Nido. Don't waste your time or money. The owners without the original chef don't have a clue about how to run a fine dining restaurant, and are obviously trying to cut corners.in every way possible. Unfortunately, after a number of very nice meals on previous occasions, I won't return for another visit. read more

Such a shame. The place is beautiful. The service is good but the food is terible. Ordered the Cesar salad and it was decent flavor but in place of crutons they give you a large stale piece if bread with two anchovies on it. What am I supposed to do? Break the rock hard toast with my fork and knife? Or use my hands? Once I built the salad my self it was ok. Then came the parpardelle pasta in a wild bore sauce. I went there hungry but coldnt eat it. It was a small pile of noodles in a nasty, salty, flavlorless meet pile. I couldn't finish it. But my dog liked it. Oh and the menue is cryptic a hell. You need to speak Italian and know that xvoo means extra virgin olive oil to know what the items are. Won't be going back. read more

Natures Creations is a 35 year Santa Fe business. El Nido has hosted our annual employee Christmas celebration dinner the last two years. From start to finish, the attention to detail and accommodation was excellent!! Walking into the beautifully prepared and detailed banquet room was a sheer delight. There are many wonderful restaurants in the Santa Fe area. ElNido is NOT one of them. This place is hit and miss. Bizarre menu! The ox tails for $21 come without the bone. The meat is shredded. Taste was bland and the portion small. The roasted beets were good but I really had a hard time finding something to order. The wait staff fell all over themselves trying to accommodate. I was so looking forward to the Omasake experience and requested to sit the counter so I could engage with the chef. NOT!!! After we were seated, we were not greeted by the chef or his assistant and were just ignored. I asked the person behind the counter if he was the chef and he replied, I just work here. I said it was my birthday and introduced myself saying I was looking forward to his food. Nothing, He barely looked up and was just plain rude. Not what I expected for the Omasake experience at 75 a person. in all my years of eating out, I've never been treated so poorly. And this is a high end restaurant, not some chain . I talked to the manager who apologized and said Masi (the chef) was just in a bad mood. Unacceptable. We were served the first meal which was some edamame and pickled cauliflower, nothing special, and decided to leave and eat at el nido and we're seated at the bar. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had in over four decades of eating in restaurants all over the world. It's one of the only times I can remember walking out in the middle of a meal. It truly upsets me to be writing this, as I was rooting so hard for this restaurant to be a winner. I had heard so much about the chef Enrique Guerrero's cooking at The Galisteo Inn, and was so excited that a historic Tesuque landmark was being revived and reinvented. But the experience my friends and I had to suffer through was so appalling and so disappointing, I'm still not sure what to make of it. First of all, we were seated in one of the booths in the back room, and immediately we could detect an intense smell of varnish in our booth. I realize that this restaurant is barely three weeks old, but this part of the space should not be opened to dining guests until all the fumes have dissipated. But since every table in the restaurant was full, we decided to endure the smell and hope that the good food would soon distract us. Boy, were we in for a nasty shock. My appetizer, the Shrimp Scampi, consisted of five extremely waterlogged shrimp that not even the strange, tangy sauce could do any favors for. I could taste the freezer burn in every insipid bite, and gave up after attempting two of the shrimp. My two dinner companions shared the Beet salad, which they reported to be completely devoid of flavor. "I've never eaten beets that were this tasteless before," one friend commented. Then, our main pasta courses arrived, and we stared at our plates in utter disbelief. "Has a mistake been made?" one friend asked the waitress, unable to fathom that the tiny tangle of Fettucine Cacio e Pepe in his bowl was an actual entree-sized portion. "No, this is it," she replied cheerily, as though nothing was amiss. The portion was so offensively small, I can guarantee that if someone had dared to serve it in Italy, a horse's head would be found on the chef's doorstep the next morning. It is an insult to Italian cuisine and Italian mothers all over the world who are so legendary in their generous helpings. (Please see the attached photo as proof--we left our hands and the fork in the photo for scale so you could see how little food there was.) My friend proceeded to eat the ENTIRE DISH OF PASTA IN FOUR QUICK BITES and found it to be a bland, gloopy mess. To be completely fair, my other friend had better luck with the Butternut Squash and Truffle Risotto. Even though it too was also a severely anemic portion, he reported that "it's bland but tastes okay." I ordered the Pasta Torchio with spicy italian sausage, which the waitress told me was made with linguine. The dish that was placed in front of me turned out not to be linguine but some strange gnocchi hybrid, and it too was a tiny serving, served in the exact same type of bowl you see in the picture. However, this ungenerous portion turned out to be a blessing as the dish was...and I have never used this word in a food review before....disgusting. The gnocchi was undercooked and came out tasting like hard, rubbery yet powdery lumps, and the sauce was horribly over-spiced. It was way too salty, way too spicy, and contained an overdose of one pungent spice that I could not quite discern. Was it cardamom? Oregano? Whatever it was, the mystery spice overpowered everything else. After miserably trying to swallow down a few forkfuls, I realized that I had a pounding headache from having inhaled the intense varnish fumes for the past hour. I apologized to my dinner guests that I needed to leave the table because I had a migraine. "Oh, I have a headache too," replied one of my friends, who had been too polite to complain. We all decided at that point to abandon ship immediately. We didn't even want to waste our time sending the food back or complaining to management, because we all felt like this was such a lost cause. We quickly paid the check and I was never more grateful to exit a restaurant in my life. After breathing in the fresh air outside for a few minutes and recovering somewhat from my nausea, we headed to the Four Seasons Hotel up the street because we were all still hungry after paying over $100 for half a meal that left us all feeling physically ill. I hope this restaurant gets their act together, as no one should ever have to experience what we went through. read more
