I love this little place. There are about six options for Mexican around this area and el paso has been my favorite for several years. They all have similar prices but el paso's food seems to be consistent and fast every time. The white sauce is awesome and the drink specials can be pretty good. I'm not sure what it is about local Mexican restaurants but I haven't been impressed with any that I've tried so far. Hot Tamale Cafe, Don Pepe, and El Paso all seem to be competing to offer the blandest, most uninspiring Mexican food possible. My evening at El Paso started off on the right foot -- the decor was colourful and interesting and the wait staff were friendly and attentive. Things started to go downhill from the moment the complimentary chips were delivered. The chips were warm but didn't have a whole lot of flavour. My Burritos Verde were also bland and drenched in a watery tomatillo sauce. My wife's Burrito Grande was slightly better but still nothing to warrant discussing at length. I'm beginning to worry that there is no decent Mexican food to be had nearby -- all I've found so far is the sort of Mexican food you would expect to find in a hospital cafeteria. read more

Was disappointed. This was our go to place for Mexican for years. The last two times service wasn't great. The waitress got both of our drink orders wrong to start. We have been regular customers here for over a decade and something has happened to the quality and customer service that is less than acceptable. Tonight my fav Sangrita came discolored and tasted off. When I let the server know, she took it away but proceeded to bill us for it. When we asked later, she acted as if we were out of line. We have eaten at El Paso regularly since they opened. Last night my wife and I were celebrating our anniversary dinner at the restaurant. Two bites into my burritos verde I bit into something very hard, it was a 2 inch piece of round plastic, I could have swallowed this. I gave it to our server, the manager came over and offered to remake the meal, I was totally not hungry by then and she took it off our check. I had the spinach quesadilla which was yummy! It was loaded with spinach. My guy got some bean nachos which he enjoyed - you can really mess up bean nachos, can you. So this use to be one of our favorite Mexican restaurants. Over time we have seen food quality and service go down. Tonight was the last straw. We ordered tableside guacamole which was tasty however the chips were horribly stale. We kindly asked the server for another batch given them the benefit of the doubt that maybe this was a bad batch but she brought out another batch even worse almost as if it was intentional. We got a manager and he just waved his hand and said this is all they have. We got up and left. Terrible service and low quality food. Local area folks stick to Mexico, never disappoints. read more

My wife and I were visiting relatives in VA and decided to have lunch here again. It still has a friendly staff and is easy to get to with plenty of parking. My wife and I both ordered the 3 taco plate with one each of carne asada, carnitas, and al pastor. Each one used 2 corn tortillas and was stuffed full of meat. They came with beans and a spicy, too hot for my wife, salsa. Great lunch! I highly recommend it. read more

I've become such a regular that once I'm sat I don't have to order my drinks, they already know. I also always get their special spicy salsa and they bring it out without asking! This used to be my favorite place to eat in Chesterfield. That was until the last two visits were awful. We walked in and we're not greeted for 12 minutes. Then after getting to the table we were not helped until 10 minutes exactly after being seated. The waitress did not ask us how things were she took our order and brought the check. We visited el paso every now and then, and if you show up around 6 or later they are packed. Doesn't take long though for a seat but let's get to the good part. We are a young married couple. We tend to get overlooked at most restaurants because of our age. Yet we never have a bad experience at El Paso. The wait staff is excellent, always looking out for us; making sure everything is OK and the drinks are refilled. I always order from the burritos so I can't speak for the other dishes but today I order the burrito tejano. It was about 16" by 6" and delicious. It was their most expensive burrito at 12 dollars but I was hungry. My wife is a vegetarian and she ordered the texan quesadilla without mushrooms. We were both pleased with our meal. Everything was hot and delicious. Plus the drink prices are not bad for alcoholic beverages. We will continue to dine here again over the other local Mexican restaurants. Long story short: Great staff, good food and drink, cheap prices. Our bill for the Friday night was 32 dollars for 36oz of beer, quesadilla, burrito, and a margarita. It was on a Friday special for draft beer at 1.49 per 12oz and we had a 5$ off coupon from valpack for spending over 20$. Fernando was our waiter. This is the GO TO Mexican restaurant in Midlothian. The staff is always friendly and the food excels in every way! I always get the quesadilla ranchera, without fail. Other places have one, but it just doesn't hit the spot the way this one does. My wife gets the Sangarita and let me tell you, this is a must! It's the perfect drink that pulls your food together. If you only try one Mexican restaurant in the county, heck the state, this is the ONE! 10/10! read more

My mother, sister, and I decided to have a girls night out. We ordered 3 glasses of sangria extremely sweet it made me wonder if there was any alcohol in them!? With that to start we had fresh guacamole and were never offered another baskets of chips after we ran out. After receiving our food the waiter never came to check on us and I had to ask another employee for tapatio. NEVER order carry out and expect to get chips with your THREE ORDERS OF CHEESE DIP!!!!!! Cheese dip cost 4.50..... So we ordered three orders of cheese dip and we were given two TINY bags of chips!! When I questioned the staff on where our thrid bag was, he informed me that he gave me an extra bag that he was only suppose to give me one.... I bet there are maybe 20 chips in the bag... How exactly am I suppose to eat a FIVE DOLLAR container of cheese with two tiny bags of chips---split between three people! The fact that the man at the to-go station argued with me that I got more chips than I was supposed it is absolutely ridiculous... I will never visit this place again, unfortunate they are losing the business of another small business over some chips. read more

Pros: - My husband consistently orders chicken quesadillas and rice which he loves over other places in Richmond. - The chips and salsa are always delicious. - I've ordered shrimp tacos which are very good. - The have table side guacamole. - Good drink specials on certain nights. - Very affordable. - Most of the servers are very friendly and attentive. Cons: - The combo meals (ex. burrito with rice and beans) are just ok. - If you get guacamole as 'part' of your meal it's awful. -The place could stand to be a little cleaner (ex. booths, tables, floors) - the bathrooms are really bad. - If you get Rosario (per his name tag) ask for another server. Eventually the salad came about 20 minutes later after the rest of us were all done eating, but it was an entirely different steak salad.
