El Patio - I am terrible at smiling, food was good though! - Latin American Near Me - Seattle, Washington

The portions are not bad... a bit pricey, but not bad, except the pupusas, they could have a bit more filling and not so much corn dough, it's like a thick tortilla with very little flavor inside, honestly had to add extra slaw so can be more tasty. Since the place is located in Aurora, didn't expect it to be a perfect spot, but actually looked very decent and clean, the plan was to take my order to go anyways, just a personal covid precaution. My order took quite a bit, and to be honest, the restaurant wasn't too busy (maybe 8 people, at that time) another costumer (that was not wearing a mask and still received service) got pretty upset and nearly left without his order because of the long wait. Their dishwasher was ALSO not wearing his mask properly, he had it under his chin, which make it totally useless and for what I've read it's a common thing in this place. The host/cashier was nice and attentive, for what I could see the kitchen and the cashier were following the mask up mandatory for restaurants, why not to encourage the rest of their team and the costumers to do it as well? read more

Amazing food and drinks! They have great variety of menu options including, atole de elote, Cóctel de camarones and liquadas! Very authentic food in a great location, the staff is very friendly and offer great service. The establishment is very clean bar is fun with great atmosphere. They offer delicious breakfast menus as well!! read more

Checked out El Patio hoping to find our new local Mexican joint. Disappointed to say this is not going to be it. Food was bland and way over priced. In our seafood dish we discovered a hair that was not our own. Upon informing the server she took the plate away half eaten and returned with a check charging full price for the hairy dish? When we asked for some compensation they said "well you ate it didn't you" Well, yeah, until I saw a hair. At least they didn't suggest I should have ate around it. They ended up giving us half off the tainted dish. You won't be driving up 99 and see us on El Patio anytime soon. Adios Amigos and good riddance read more

Gave this place a second chance, knowing very well this is NOT A MEXICAN RESTAURANT! LOL! Food was pretty damn good. You gotta know what to order tho, so far I recommend the Pollo tajado. Delicious! The other is the appetizer "Ejemplo" good size! read more

For $6.99 you get chips, salsa and guacamole. The dips are each in TINY portions so you get a bunch of chips and enough guac for maybe 5 of them. Ordered margaritas before our entree. Entree took over 20 minutes to arrive and never once did a server stop by to refill waters or check on drinks. They were well understaffed which showed far to well during our experience. For a $62 dinner, id certainly expect more. read more

We live right down the street and eat here on a weekly basis. We love El Patio dearly. The food is always fresh and great. The margaritas are delicious and the staff is always so friendly and welcoming. You also can't beat a great pupusas! read more

Yum! The best drinks and yummy Latin food! They have a parking lot behind the building off 97th. Super nice family ran place. The nice gentleman bartender will tell you things about the regionality of the things you order if you ask. The food isn't too spicy but has a lot of flavor. Our favorites are the yogui which is Honduran and is like a passionfruit mojito. Also the tamarind margarita is so great! The pupusas and chorizo are also favorites! And we literally can't come here without having yucca con chicharrones. read more

I like this place a lot! I'm seeing a lot of people disappointed because it's not a typical Mexican restaurant but that's primarily because it's not a Mexican restaurant. The pupusas are delicious and pretty hefty. The fried plantains are consistently good and my husband is a big fan of the sopa de mariscos. The menu is large, service is quick and friendly, and in the days we would dine in they were always very accommodating of us and our toddler, which is appreciated. We have been and will keep coming back! read more

Went here a couple of times, and I was always very happy with the quality of food and the reliable service. Feels a little dive-y, so it isn't necessarily your dress up date-night but it is definitely filling comfort food with a fun cocktail menu. read more

I've driven by this place for a year and finally was able to come in last night. We came in and planned to just have a margarita, which we did and it was fantastic (we prefer less sweet, but didn't specify that to the server, but it was still very tasty). We always judge a place by their chips and salsa so we ordered some. Fresh made chips, salsa, and guac! So we proceeded to order dinner (are are taco and chile relleno connoisseurs). Their tacos were made with house-made tortillas (amazing) and the chile relleno was probably the best we've ever had. I highly recommend this place! The prices are comparable to Azteca. read more

My husband and our family use to come here all the time when it was called tropicos breeze. We use to suggest it to friends and take family from out of town here. I'm not sure if there are new owners/management etc... but the pupusas are SUPER thick. With minimal filling. The cheese also seems flavorless. We tried it out 3x to be sure it just wasn't an off day/s or cook. Sadly no, they continued to be made very thick, lacked in flavor and minimal ingredients inside. The last two times we were there, our pupusas were made wrong. It took 35 mins to get the corrected ones. We are so bummed. It use to be one of our favorite restaurants. :/ read more

This place is great! The pupusas did not disappoint and the chips and salsa probably the best I ever had. One observation for the owners. Have a printed ( or online) happy hour menu, our server didn't know what items were on happy hour also didn't mention pupusas were only $3 on Thursdays, had we known that we might have ordered more than we had. read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant. Embarrassedly, came in here starved and cranky. Before, coming here, I had bookmarked this place many times on being a passenger on the E-line bus. I think as a a Native Seattlitie, I am did not visit at first, due to being unaware of Central American food. So made a special stop to sample the food. First,I ordered the Guacamole and chips. Found them fresh and delicious. Probably not South American, but I have no clue. Ordered some Arapeas, these were delicious. Love any type of cornmeal deliciousness. Next, had ://www.yelp.com/menu/el-patio-seattle/item/bandeja-paisa. So delicious. So I enjoyed this place, to come and have home cooked delicious food. Good service and even better food. Nice atmosphere, that takes you away from gloomy Seattle. They met my need for niceness from the staff and delicious food. Decided to try out El Patio tonight. Started out with good service. Food took a long time to come out. Food was great, I ordered four pupusas revueltas with pork, cheese and beans. After my families meal we waited for our server to come back and give us our check and four pupusas we ordered to go when we first ordered. Waited 15 minutes after we had paid and still no pupusas. Asked our server twice about them and he said they would be right out. Was dissapointed that I had to wait almost 25 minutes for a order that was placed when our server first took our order. Won't be coming back any time soon. read more

Super quality food, I would highly recommend El Patio. And they can actually make a good Margarita.

The chairs at the tables are unbelievably uncomfortable, which I might have tolerated if the food were outstanding, but it's not. Two people in our group left limping due to back and leg pain from the chairs. If you go here -sit in a booth! Or maybe the iron chairs on the outdoor patio section right on busy Aurora Ave N. At the tables, hey do have some little seat cushions randomly placed, but by the time I discovered one, I was already having full-on back spasms and my friend said her butt was completely numb. I think the chairs are so stiff and tall it was impossible for the shorter adults in our group to rest their feet on the floor. The service staff was very nice, but again not outstanding. In combination with the unsatisfactory rating from the Health Department according to Yelp, I am sadly putting this place on my personal Do Not Repeat list - it's too bad because the place has a tempting looking Central American dishes on the menu, not just your standard Tex Mex dishes. For superb food in this genre I'm sticking with La Cabaña on N105th, 4 blocks west of Aurora. It has parking, great food, family run and seating that doesn't leave diners in pain. read more

Friendly people and delicious food. The Pupusas are my favorite and they have many things for vegetarians, as well as meat and seafood eaters. Beers from across South America and great portions. I frequent here after a visit to nearby Lantern Brewing. Highly recommended! read more

The problem here is not the food or prices but the very slow, inattentive service. One Salvadarena was scurrying around the expansive restaurant all by herself , seemingly ignoring us because of our location. We liked the pupusas and the large menu but they really need to hire more staff. read more

First time there and definitely going back. Tacos y carnitas was excellent. Homemade sauces; meat cooked just right - chunks of pork with crunch and chew but juicy and tender at the same time. Four tasty tacos for just under $13. More than satisfying. read more
