We stopped in over the weekend at the recommendation of a friend. We were a bit early before the dinner rush but we were surprised to see the entire place empty. Beautiful restaurant, we really expected a bit of a crowd. We were seated and greeted, waters were provided with menus. We started our meal experience by telling our waiter that we planned to do a progressive dinner down 3rd Street. We were met with a rather disappointed / disheartened response. Their menu was absolutely stunning. Lots of great options. As this was our first stop of the evening, we went for an appetizer. The Albacore Confit absolutely out of this world. Ridiculously good. Huge portion, plated beautifully. Wonderful for the three of us to share. We all raved at how lovely the dish was. Drinks were absolutely fabulous. Gin martini was SOLID. My partner didn't care for his wine but it was a first-time try, that isn't the fault of the restaurant. The Dolores O'Riordan martini was absolutely wonderful. The bar was timely with drinks, which is always appreciated. Overall, ambiance, food, and drink were AMAZING! Absolutely a 5-star experience. However, service just did not slap. We could have survived with the disheartened response at us only staying for one-course but the end of our time with Grounded Table kinda kicked us all in the butt. As they handed me the check, we were met with "We hope you can join us for an entire meal sometime". The inflection was just catty and unnecessary. We went to Grounded table last weekend to celebrate a birthday. I was really looking forward to it and was expecting to be blown off my feet after reading the other reviews. The food was just ok. Honestly, it feels like they are trying too hard. Radicchio and Caesar just didn't hit for me. I would have given it more stars though if the service was better. While off to a rocky start, Grounded Table was a great dinner to wrap up our weekend in Willamette Valley. While our table wasn't ready when we entered at our reservation time, the staff quickly got us drinks that were then ready for us when our table was available shortly thereafter. The staff was super sweet and very helpful with the menu and dietary restrictions. For food, highly recommend the homemade cavatelli. The sage, butter, and crushed hazelnuts were the perfect combination you didn't know you needed. Decadent without going overboard. The half chicken seemed a little small, but was moist, had a great flavor, and was delicious. The whole trout was a beautiful combination of flavors and textures. Somewhat thin, but great combo with the ham hock and fried brussel sprout leaves. The Turkey schnitzel...wow. The breading on the turkey was light and crispy, combined with the marionberry agrodolce and vinegar dressing. Match made in heaven and highly would recommend. Definitely leave room for dessert -- the cookies and milk dessert was the elevated Oreos and milk you grew up having. Simple and fantastic. For those deserving of a sweet treat, the ice cream flavors are interesting and also delicious- but the real winner is the TRFO. even if you scrape some of the middle off and don't eat the cookie (gf-ish) they're worth it. McMinnville is in the heart of Oregon wine country, and sports a thriving downtown peppered with wineries, art and restaurants. Once inside, you will notice that the interior would work well as an art gallery. That vibe carries over to the food and service. Our waitress was charming and talkative (which we like), and she helped steer us to the right food. She also explained that the restaurant started from two regenerative farms, which we also like. We ordered coffee, the Corned Beef Hash, and the Dungeness Crab Benedict. Since the it arrives first, it is possible to guess at the quality of the food by how good the coffee is. In this case it was excellent. Expectations were high. The Hash: The corned beef was cut into chunks, not pulled apart like it normally is. It did not have the flavor you would normally expect, yet it was excellent and slightly crispy, with a baked egg in the center. Their house-made hot sauce goes well with it. The Benedict: Served on a crab cake instead of English muffin with greens over top, along with radish strips. The Hollandaise is delicate, and does not overpower the crab. OK and over-priced is the best way to describe this location. The sourdough starter was amazing. But if you're looking for a place free of pretension, find somewhere else. From the help to the clientele, expect to be insulted on the regular. The couple next to us spent more time judging our conversation than having their own, and the servers tried their best to conceal their contempt at least until the tip was provided. What a cool space- it has beautiful artwork and ambiance, and the bar tucked into the corner was adorable. Our server Del was fabulous, very attentive and funny. Our first visit to Humble Spirit was on a whim on a Friday. The restaurant is on the smaller side and they were full with reservations, but kindly offered a seat at the bar. We took it, and happily as their bar counter is absolutely stunning! I think it might quartz and while I normally prefer table seating, I'd happily imbibe in a meal at that gorgeous bar anytime. We've since returned several times and can wholeheartedly recommend anything in the menu. If you need somewhere to start, though, the cheeseburger (which sure, might sound a little boring) is my husband's favorite and sure to please anyone, not to mention the fries are thin, crispy, and the epitome of fry perfection. My favorite dinner dish is the albacore confit. It is fresh, satisfying and filling, without being heavy. And the scallion mayo?! Yum! They also make in house soft serve ice cream in a varying rotation of flavors, which sounds so dreamy, but we are always too stuffed to try it! Lastly, I generally go for boring water, but my husband loves their Bloody Mary and most particularly the old fashioned made with pork fat washed bourbon. They offer brunch Saturday and Sunday, and this is a great time to try out Humble Spirit. We've never needed a reservation if we arrive first thing, and you get to have possibly my favorite item they serve, the donuts! Now, I love sugar, but donuts don't tend to be my desired vehicle for sweetness. That is, until I met Humble Spirit's incredible rendition. I am a chocolate gal always, but I honestly cannot choose between the rich dark chocolate and the cinnamon sugar variety. Both are not too sweet, served warm, and guaranteed to knock your socks off. The few times we've had brunch and skipped the donuts I've regretted it. Do yourself a favor and order both. The corned beef hash is also exemplary (those crispy potatoes?! I could eat a whole bowl of them alone!). Service is chill and friendly. Prices are average for a nicer spot and absolutely worth it. Parking is only available on the street. Beautifully renovated space. The Pub is exactly what McMinnville needed but didn't know they needed. I immediately felt at home and comfortable sitting at the bar. The staff is friendly and informative. The menu is small but adequate smart and well curated with something for everyone. We ordered the Smashburger with fries, a Cucumber Gin cocktail and a Davis St Sour. The burger was incredible in fact it is now one of my favorite in all of Yamhill county. The meat is quality, smashed to perfection juicy and flavorful. The griddled onions and melty smoked Gouda are the icing on the cake. The bun slathered with fancy sauce and B&B pickles put this burger over the top. The price is a tad high but the quality soon makes you forget the $19 price tag. We added a beautiful sunny side up egg for an extra $3 which was well worth splurge. The fries are thin cut perfect and salty. We had fun trying all the homemade sauces my personal favorite is the sweet coffee bbq sauce. I dipped and dunked my fries and burger feeling like a kid in a candy store. We rarely visit the same place twice when traveling, but this place was exceptional in so many ways. Our server was fantastic--not only did they make great dinner recommendations, but they also helped us narrow down wineries to visit the next day. Thanks to their suggestions, the wineries we visited were amazing. Now, about the food: it was fresh and creative. For example, the Market Vegetable was onion. You might wonder what could be done with an onion, but they paired it with cherries and balsamic, and it was the best onion I've ever eaten. Look at the website menu... The food and menu pictures on Yelp do not give an accurate representation. I'm not a huge seafood fan and can't eat gluten so my options were very limited. The night I was there most of the dishes included pasta or bread. And the substitution was simply steamed vegetables. The salads I had were good quality, but nothing special. Service was fine. I am here to correct my earlier review. I had made an error about our reservation time and was angry because we were asked if we would be able to vacate our table in time for the next reservation. Fact is, I got the time mixed up and we showed up 30 minutes late for our reservation. The hostess was kind enough to seat us without pointing out we were late but rightfully so, asked if we would have an issue with eating in a certain period of time because someone else had reserved the table after us. The owner, a class act, responded off line to my review, probably to save me the embarrassment, brought to my attention that we had a 4:30 reservation and not 5pm. I apologize for my earlier harsh words. You and your staff were gracious and friendly and I was clearly in the wrong. As for the rest of my review: The farm to table concept is a good one, however it does limit the menu. One could say this is a good thing as everything on the menu would be done well. We ordered the Albacore Confit, which was fresh and delicious. My pasta was quite delicious and I enjoyed the addition of the sweet corn. The Halibut and pork chops my family ordered were also delicious. We were pleased with the portions and the inventive pairings were as surprising as they were pleasing. It is clear the chef puts a great deal of thought and creativity into his menu. The wait staff was attentive and made sure we were taken care of. Our particular server was very knowledgeable about the dishes and almost poetic in her descriptions. The owner, in their response was also kind enough to invite us back. This is a quaint little restaurant. This was my second time to eat at the Humble Spirit. A friend and I were in town to celebrate my son's birthday. It has a small menu with excellent choices. We had appetizers, the daily special, cocktails, shared a bottle of wine and dessert. Everything was delicious. The staff is amazing. Really I can't say enough good things about them. They were all great and very attentive. I started with the Lavender Lemon Drop - really tasty especially if you like lemon drop martinis. We ordered two appetizers - Hazelnuts and Pork Belly. The hazel nuts were roasted to perfection and even though I'm not a fan of pork belly the way this was prepared made it delicious. The Garden Vegetables were fresh and I especially loved the radishes. I had the Whole Trout as my entrée. While it's cooked a lot different than we cook trout in the south I found it to be delicious. The herb salad really added to the flavor. My son had the special which was duck. He loved it. For dessert we had the rhubarb ice cream. The rhubarb wasn't over bearing, just a slight taste which made it really good. If you're visiting or if you live locally, give this place a try. You won't walk away disappointed. read more

This place as a breath of fresh air. This little gem is buried on the busy 3rd street of McMinville. You walk in and see this open, bright, and classy bistro decor. I love how they kept the old brick yet add modern elements to control the noise. Next is the impeccable hospitality from the host to the server. They treated us like we were VIPs. I love the original and eclectic farm-to-table menu with fresh ingredients, such as housemade hot sauce and sausage. We had the egg Benedict with salmon and egg Benedict with ham. Both were delicious with fresh greens on top. The sparkling water with no extra charge was a classy touch. I had really high hopes for Humble Spirit, and was excited to snag a dinner reservation here during a visit from Portland. Unfortunately, both the food and hospitality left me very underwhelmed. We started with the shrimp rolls, which were tasty, but no different than something you'd get from a lobster roll-type food truck. For our main, we split the cheeseburger, which was quite greasy and overcooked, and came served with basic McDonald's style-fries. We also tried the Blue Lagoon and old fashioned cocktails, which were similarly underwhelming. My boyfriend and I split our $74 bill evenly, so I was surprised the next day when I looked at my credit card and saw a charge for $87. I assumed I had been accidentally charged for the full meal, and after attempts to call and rectify the situation, I ended up going back to the restaurant in person. When the manager (?) pulled up my receipt, I saw that a $50 tip had been added to my $37 bill. Clearly, a 135% tip is not something I could have accidentally selected on an iPad, and my credit card shows my original charge was $37 excluding tip, so unfortunately I believe this was altered by someone at the restaurant after I paid. While I was refunded the difference, I was honestly very off put by how nonchalant the employee seemed about this shady transaction, and there was no further attempt to investigate or make the situation right. Ultimately, there are better spots to eat in the Willamette Valley -- and if you do decide to dine at Humble Spirit, double check your credit card statements. read more

It wouldn't be fair to give this place anything less than 5 stars, as we arrived with a belly full of food and wine. When I made the reservation, I was unaware that we were going to get fed every stop we made. I almost canceled our reservation, but I had been wanting to try this place for so long we decided to keep the reservation but move it slightly later to give ourselves some time to digest. I am so glad we did, what we did eat was all delicious, minus one exception we ordered the albacore confit. It was dill with a little bit of fish. I like dill but this was overwhelming. I did mention it to our server, who brought it to the chef's attention. They were very apologetic and explained that some additional training with the prep cooks was in order to make sure it wouldn't happen moving forward. The highlights for me were the shrimp rolls, and the Pavlova. I would drive all the way to MAC for that Pavlova. I always thought Pavlova was rather boring, but this had a lemon balm custard with fresh seasonal berries. It was also nice and light, so it didn't disrupt our already full bellies. We interacted with multiple staff members who were all engaging and sweet. It was obvious, they were treated well. read more

We went to Humble Spirit as a large party (13pp). I'll provide more detail but to cut to the bottom line opinion: Food was very good Prices are very fair for the quality and creativity of the dishes Service was OK It's not the place for a large party I'd encourage anyone to go here as a group of six or less (6+ is a large party). Our group enjoyed the food, presentation and space. The food: beautifully plated, fresh and great combinations of flavors. Hats off to the kitchen! Regarding service: we realize it's difficult to get and hold the attention of a large group (we get together once a year for Wilamette wine tasting, so always lots of catching up!), but I don't think our server really even tried. Instead of simply putting plates on and taking plates off, telling us a bit about the dishes would definitely elevated the experience. It would be like going wine tasting and getting a pour with no information about the wine, or winemaker or facility. The big miss for us was timing of the meal. The dishes are served family style. We felt rushed with each of the five courses. It takes time to pass dishes around; we all really enjoy cooking and food, so there wasn't enough time to 'dissect the delicousness'. Additionally, dishes that people wanted to go back to (e.g. two remaining pieces of chicken on barley risotto) were simply whisked away. Disappointing and wasteful. As a large party, we were given 2.5 hours per the contract. We stayed 3.5 but the staff was definitely trying to get us out. That put a damper on the experience for me as the planner of this event. I'm not sure why 2.5 hours is designated, but I'm quite sure that smaller table groups were there as long as we were, and I didn't notice them being rushed. The Director of Hospitality, Justin, was easy to work with and great with communication and follow up. I found the paperwork/contract to be a bit cumbersome compared to planning other 'large party' restaurant events. We were also required to pay the full amount one week prior to the event. It wasn't a big deal for us, but it's certainly not the most friendly policy I've met. Bottom line, if you are a party of six or less, go! If you are more than six, there are other restaurants in the area where we've consistently had better experiences over many years (better engagement with the service staff, no rushing of courses, no wisking unfinished dishes away and no staff trying to get you to leave). read more

Anyhoo, We arrived for the happy hour just as the rain was setting in for the evening. I'm realizing now, 2weeks later that I don't remember what we ate or drank. I do remember that it was all delicious and the service was excellent. We sat in the loft upstairs in this booth that was as big as a hot tub. It reminded me of a booth in an old Vegas showroom down in front that could prolly squeeze 12 people in to for the 11'clock show with a 2 drink minimum. I'm starting to recall deviled eggs. They were straight forward, basic I guess would be the word. Which struck me as unusual for a place that was trying to come off as a gastro experience in the main room. We were on our 27th anniversary trip and had dined at wineries all weekend and I guess the bar was high that weekend. I do recall that the staircase to get out of that thing after a good beer felt a bit perilous. I guess pedestrian would be the word for this place. I do feel that may be unfair for the pub side. It's a pub and it's not their main event, and I was there to stare Into my wife's hypnotic eyes, put my hand on her knee, and squeeze deeply. Great spot for food and drinks! We shared the sourdough boule, albacore confit, summer corn pasta dish, and berry pavlova. The portions were on the smaller side but still OK to share all of the above with 3 of us. The albacore confit was very tasty and had an interesting mix of ingredients that all came together very well. The pavlova was delicious!! We loved the flavor of our drinks; however, for the price of the cocktail ($15) I would have expected an average size - my drink just about filled half of a coup, and for the same price in other areas I have at least received a fully-poured drink. read more
