Grew up in this town and have never been to this restaurant until now. It's very quaint and you can tell it's been here for a while. First of all, service was great! They even knew my dad by name and they were also very friendly and came over and chatted with him. we shared a plate of fajitas together with steak and they were excellent! With the chips and salsa as well as the entree, that was enough for both of us. The chips and salsa also came with some refried beans and overall it was a really nice experience. And I also found out that the family that owns it is a big family and one of their many kids went to high school with me. I had no idea! He was a great guy back in the day so I know this place is run by good people. Again I'm pleased to say that this is a well developed institution of downtown Gig Harbor run by a great family! read more

I'm visit from Miami and found El Pueblito on Yelp. It's a popular restaurant, pretty busy for a week day. The food I devine, let's start off when the chips and salsa so fresh and crispy. I ordered the vegetarian enchiladas and can confirm its authentic Mexican food. Ended with the vanilla ice cream with strawberry sauce. Dinner was incredibly delicious and the service amazing! The portions are huge, and the prices are very reasonable for the exceptional quality. We enjoyed Carnitas, enchiladas, and a tostada, which filled the entire ginormous plates! The beans and the rice were also super delicious! Also enjoyed the authentic atmosphere. What a great family atmosphere. The food is amazing this is a family owned and ran business and they are super accommodating. The decor fits what they're serving. What a great find in Gig Harbor! This is a must we will be back! The plates are as big as the menu and the price you can't beat it. Alfredo and Augustina, Brother and sister, 2/10 siblings are such an enjoyment to be around. I greeted and seated very quickly. Chips were light and crispy (my personal favorite), and the salsa had a little heat (not quite off the shelf medium heat), but most importantly, it was flavorful! So, off to a very good start. I ordered the tortilla soup. My drink was refilled in a very timely manner, and waited for my soup. It didn't seem all that busy, so I began to wonder what the deal was. I mean, how long does it take to make soup? When my meal arrived, the first thing I noticed was the scent of the delicate charring of the chicken. We stopped in specifically because I wanted to try their carnitas. They came with rice, beans, and some shredded lettuce with a little guacamole on top. My plate had clearly been sitting for a while by the time it came as the rice was cold and dried out on top and the beans and cheese the same. The carnitas themselves were dry and tough. I don't know how they made these but clearly not traditionally and had not been cooked long enough, nor did they have any spice or much flavor. They were extremely disappointing. I ended up using their store-bought (another disappointment) corn tortillas to make little burritos with the rice, beans, and lettuce. When we were done the server didn't even bother to ask if there was something wrong with the carnitas which I clearly left almost all of on the plate (see photo). Perhaps she already knew why I didn't eat them, but a good server would have checked on us at least once during the meal (which she did not do) and been more observant and asked if everything was OK with the meal if the "hero" of the meal is being eschewed (rather than chewed). For what it's worth, the corn chips were good, but the salsa was very watery and had little spice or flavor. read more

El Pueblito is one of the few truly authentic Mexican restaurants west of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. Nestled in the center of Gig Harbor, the small restaurant faces the harbor and is always busy. The decorations are vibrant and colorful and the staff is always friendly, responsive and courteous-even when you're ordering to-go. My go-to dish (and main review) is typically the Enchiladas Verde, the quesadilla (for my kids), and fajitas (for my wife). All dishes are always freshly prepared and always piping hot; the side vegetables (for those dishes that have them) are fresh, the chips are always crispy and warm and the rice/beans are always "on point". I also like the fact that their salsa is fresh and chunky. The prices are reasonable and not overly outrageous. If you want cheap Mexican eats, go find Taco Bell or a taco truck (good luck on that one, lol). Being from LA, I've grown up eating at various Mexican restaurants; besides hitting up a typical LA Taco Truck, one of my favorite restaurants in LA is Pancho's in Manhattan Beach. Bottom line, if I'm not eating Mexican in Tacoma (there are some even better, authentic restaurants there), my first choice is this place. read more

The staff got us sat quickly and had the tables already spaced out for COVID and the servers were all wearing mask. They require you to wear them while you wait for a table of walk to a bathroom, which isn't a big deal. They bring out chips and salsa. We were really impressed with the food and portion sizes. My daughter and her boyfriend both got the smaller combos and each had left overs to go. Didn't think to take a picture as we were enjoying the food and company. Prices were fair and the atmosphere is nice. If you're there early enough some of the little shops in the area would be cute to look at while there. The bathrooms aren't in the actual restaurant part but the wait staff is more than happy to direct you. Oh the menus are from QR code. Go to google and click the google colored square next to the search bar and google will find the menu, so not to difficult there. The beans were good, I love Mexican refried beans and was happy with my crema enchiladas. We would for sure return. We felt they were handling the situation for COVID well. Check them out. read more

I've been dining here many times over the past several years, and I'm always pleased with the friendly, customer-oriented service. The regular waitstaff recognize return customers, and it's evident that they work as a team to provide quick and quality service to everyone. I've been particularly pleased with their willingness to accommodate requests - I routinely request: no tortillas, no rice, with grilled vegetables instead (or just all beans) in order to eat low-carb/keto. They are always happy to accommodate that request and do not charge extra. Had my first visit here for dinner and got to say this place is pretty darn good! The food is really authentic and fresh and the prices are reasonable. I really like the staff and the quickness of the service for a party of four. The margaritas were really good and I have to say they were generous with the quantity of alcohol in the drink. I also have to rave about their fresh salsa and coleslaw that came with the chips! The coleslaw was out of this world and definitely one of my favorite foods at this place!
