Bland, Tasteless Food. I went here last year during the height of covid and got food to go. My experience was not good. The tamale was horrible. I could not detect any meat in it. It was not eatable. The Arroz con Pollo was bland and tasteless. It was like they just threw whatever ingredients they had in the kitchen in the container and put canned red sauce on it and said "this is Arroz Con Pollo." That is my favorite dish, and I know what authentic Arroz Con Pollo should taste like. I have no idea what I was sold, but it was certainly not the dish I ordered. I do not know how they are getting 4 and 5 star reviews. For anyone who has eaten real Mexican food, you would know the difference. The chain Mexican food restaurants have better food than this place. Possibly this was due to cook change or shortages during covid, but if they cannot serve quality, eatable food, they should have just shut down. I emailed my concerns on their contact form, and heard nothing back from this place. That really shows what type of establishment it is. They must just delete customer complaints without a response. I cannot understand the food reviews. I spent $52.00 on food that was horrible, and was thrown in the trash. read more

My favorite Mexican restaurant in gig. They are so fast and friendly, and the food portions are so generous we usually get away with ordering less but having just as much food. Not the best margarita ive had ever but it never stopped me from getting one when I go! read more

Wow is about all I can say. The chips were warm, the salsa nicely spiced, the slaw with jalapeno dip something I've never tasted before & fell in love with! I was raised in southern Arizona & know what good Mexican food is. The tamale was as good as I've had. The chili relleno properly battered & oh so tasty. The chicken chimichanga was almost overly full of juicy white meat. The refried beans were come just right as was the rice. And the quantity of food was jaw dropping! That it all was so good & so plentiful is amazing. Add that the service was outstanding, I can only say I'm glad I don't live anywhere near here or I'd be 300# in no time at all!! read more

I just had the best bowl of Chicken Tortilla Soup at El Pueblito. I don't care if it's summertime, I will be going back ASAP.

They get two stars cause I've eaten here before and I really enjoyed myself, but there are a couple things that should be noted... I was there last night with some family having dinner, I ordered the macho burrito, which I had with chicken before... This time I ordered pork, and it was just SO DRY. Never ordering pork again. Stick with the chicken, you won't regret it. My husband and brother ordered a couple drinks, starting with the Trash Cans. This is where they lost points, big time... The red bull can that came with one of the drinks, had some kind of sludge... Brown poopy looking crud on the bottom of the can. It was in short, foul... Like health department worthy disgusting. I flagged one of the waitresses over and when she saw the can, she said she was sorry and that she'd just wipe it off in the back. I told her no, go get the manager. She simply refused and said, 'no, no.. I just make you a new one instead.' She came back with a new red bull can that she had rinsed off. I was pretty upset and wanted to leave, but my husband happens to love this place, and the food really is good, but manager/owner, if you're reading this, make it a habit to RINSE OFF ALL THE CANS before you dump them into our drinks. You would have gotten one star for this scandal, but my husband loves you guys, so that and the fact that you guys have always been pleasant before hand is your saving grace. read more

This is on one of the main drags in Gig Harbor and has a good view. The inside includes a mural and other paintings on the wall. The interior looked a little run down, and the bathroom was kind of sketchy. I ordered the chicken tortilla soup, and it was bad! I am not the kind of person to send a dish back, but perhaps I should become one. It was just not edible. It was a bowl of liquid grease with three pieces of chicken, some avocado, and flimsy tortilla strips. I couldn't eat it. The waitress really should have inquired as to what went wrong, as something clearly had. The salsa that came with the chips was really good. They have a full bar. My better half of course ordered a better dish. I cannot remember what it was, but it was rice, vegetables and chicken. The chicken tasted quite good and was well seasoned. read more

Excellent place. The staff is always very friendly and nice. This place is run by a family, if I'm not mistaken, 6 out of 10 brothers and sisters working for the Mom and Pop. They've been doing it for 20 years. You can tell that they are loved by the locals, because they are familiar with everyone that comes in. We've been here at least 5 times, and have seen several of the same faces each time. Now, some local places, I feel, have a local cult fondness, simply because they're local, and that it. Not the food, not the service, and undeserved. This place deserves their accolades for their food, service, friendliness, and cleanliness. Margaritas are good. Wifey is especially fond of the jalapeno margarita. Chips and salsa are great, and are also served with a bowl of beans that are pureed down to a sauce for dipping. I would say that as far as mexican food goes, this is by far the best around. It seems that in the PNW, there are tons of mexican places, and none of them know what they're doing. I grew up in So Cal, where you can't have bad mexican food, because you'll go out of business. I've looked for several years to find a go-to, good quality mexican restaurant, and this is it. Their Happy Hour fare is a good as their dinner menu, and most of the time we go for Happy Hour, and still come home with unfinished food. Beware of their Pueblito Burrito! Went out with some new friends who live in Gig Harbor and they said this was the spot to be on a Friday night. The good: 4 stars for the food without a doubt. Salsa is very tasty, chips are fresh, and I could live on their Arroz Con Pollo. Now for the bad. It cost them 3 stars for the sham of karaoke they put on. It's all people over the age of 50 and 20 somethings that don't have the cash to go out in Seattle or Bellevue. I'm not going to waste the time to describe all the scrubs that were in the joint. I'm just going to say that seeing girls that weigh 100 pounds more then they should SCREAMING out just the chorus to songs (cause they don't know the verses) in a key that would make a whale (like the double reference) scream, just isn't my cup of tea. It's a real shame the owners don't let the food stand on its own. I understand they are trying to make more money in a down economy with the karaoke, but I seriously think with the kind of people they attract, they would be better off just closing after dinner. read more

We came in on probably their busiest day of the year! Gig Fest was in full swing, and we were there for all the excitement! My what a warm day it was, and so many of us festival goers were seeking some much need cool air from the heat. Situated inside a mini shopping center, it's quite remarkable that there are three entrances and exits to the spot. Whichever door you find yourself wandering into, you are immediately struck by the colorfully painted booths and chairs with scenes from Mexico. You can't help but ask yourself, "What is this happy place about? And is there room for two more?" The staff are all very nice. And despite it being a crazy busy day, we found a couple of seats by the bar. That was fine by us, it took some of the mystery of when you were going to see your waiter again, because he was always right there in front of us, running back and forth across the bar area. He did an amazing job of handling all the bartending requests and flying in to check on us every now and then. With so many orders, and countless guests around, this was a day to keep things simple. Two drinks and we shared a entree. It was just right for the two of us to share. While we waited for our food to arrive, we enjoyed watching a soccer game on TV and happily munched away at the warm, crunchy chips they so readily provided. Yes, it was the perfect spot to take a rest and then pick it back up again. We were happy that this being our first experience in Gig Harbor, it was fitting to be here on this particular weekend. Gig Harbor, a quiet suburb of Tacoma, doesn't have much going for it. Luckily, there's this place, a delightful little Mexican restaurant that serves as a great place to get a meal in the area. Otherwise, El Pueblito is not particularly memorable or distinct from all the other similar establishments in the United States. It's relatively inexpensive but satisfying, and like many other Mexican restaurants, won't leave you hungry after a meal. I guess it's customary for Mexican restaurants to provide their customers with a tray full of tortilla chips and salsa free of charge as an appetizer before the meal. That's certainly what they do here. Although both the chips and salsa were terribly salty, I don't really want to complain because I like salty, and they refilled the chips. The refill was a bit slow, but I just saw it as an add-on to the main course. That's all there is to the chips; they don't come with sour cream and guacamole or anything. Or maybe they do. I just didn't bother to ask. The meal I got was a dish full of rice, beans, mushrooms, peppers, and some other stuff. I forgot to take a picture of the menu, so I don't have the name. But all this stuff is not wrapped up in a soft tortilla for you; instead, the contents and tortilla wraps are served on separate plates. You apparently use a spoon to scoop up the contents of the "burrito" onto the tortilla yourself and eat it that way. I don't know whether this is typical of Mexican restaurants since I don't go to them very often, but I liked the idea of having this kind of freedom and being able to control what goes into the tortilla. Nevertheless, I am still clumsy and managed to get it to drip all over the table, and I don't know how typical that is of Mexican restaurants either. The food here is satisfactory for any restaurant, and there's not much more about it that I can comment on. It was so filling that after finishing it, I found it difficult to move anymore and just wanted to take a siesta on the spot. I don't know how good the other restaurants in Gig Harbor are by comparison, but this one is probably good enough to warrant a revisit. It's pointless to go out of your way to come here, though, since you can probably find a restaurant just like it near you. But if you happen to be in the area, this one has my recommendation. read more

Absolutely the best Chili Verde Burrito, that I have ever had! The staff was amazing. We showed up, without a reservation, as a group of 20. The hostess made us aware that they were expecting another group of 20, in about ninety minutes. The staff got creative, putting tables together, etc and were able to accommodate us! Such exceptional customer service! I will be referring my family and friends. And, I look forward to returning as well! read more

Came with friends for dinner. I always love the free chips with salsa and been dip. Ordered some Pacifico beer to start and then had the Carne Asada dinner #83. It was a lot of food and very delicious. Had another Pacifico beer and finished with Deep Fried Ice Cream with chocolate sauce and hot coffee. Very tasty. Needless to say I was stuffed for my long drive back to Graham. Service was great and Alfredo took great care of us. read more

Watch your bill when you get it! They rip you off! We were charged another persons table of meals! When the manager was confronted he said he wasn't reversing the charges because the tip left was small. $10 tip was left on the card and $20 tip was left on the table. That has nothing to do with over charging. Our friends from out of town were trying to be kind and buy our dinner and ended up being stolen from by this establishment. There are better places to eat! I get they have a tiny view but the food isn't even all that good, over priced, and dishonest. The bus boy was kinder than the waitress we barely saw. Give your hard earned money to a better place! It was small potatoes for this business to correct this issue. This place is an embarrassment to our community!!! I was so embarrassed that our out of town guests went through this. read more

The food was plentiful and tasty, not heavily spiced, as to not mask the food's freshness and ...surprising, all wrapped up without plastic! Service was fast and friendly but the food is a bit bland. I ordered a combo which included an enchilada, burrito and a taco. The refried beans and enchilada were tasty but everything else fell short. The beef in the burrito and taco wasn't flavorful, it was like they forgot to put in any spices. There was lots of rice but it too was pretty bland. By the time I had gotten to the taco, I lifted it and it fell in half because the grease soaked through the shell. It was just meat and lettuce in there - not exactly what I was envisioning. Three stars for the location convenient to the downtown waterfront, parking out front and fast service. Would be a hard sell to return for the food. It's an ok place, but I personally prefer something with more zest. read more
