I recently ate lunch here after visiting the outlet mall. This was my first visit and I was pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is clean and we were seated right away. We ordered off the lunch menu and the portions were very reasonable, not too much food. The biggest plus was the amazing service. The kitchen got two of our orders wrong and instead of serving us the meals and hoping we would not notice or not noticing they were wrong, our waitress had the cooks remake them the right way and kept us updated as to the issue. One of the WORST TEX MEX restaurants I've ever been to. I'm traveling and had a hankering for Tex Mex. Found this off the interstate and since there were a few cars there, I decided to stop (around 11:30 am yesterday). Even though the place didn't look too inviting, I figured most of the time "hole in the wall" restaurants are the best. NO THIS ONE...yuck! I ordered the #3 on the lunch menu. I went there a few weeks ago and got a great burrito. While we were eating the free chips we noticed a bug in the bottom of the basket. When we told the server he did not care. We asked him for a new batch and he was annoyed at us. I lost my appetite and wanted to walk out. They gave us nothing for free and did not even apologize for bugs in the chips!!! read more

This place can't get a carry out order correct, even if their lives depended on it. If you want your food customized in any type of way - forget it! For starters, when placing my order, the person taking the order spoke over me and interrupted me the whole time I was giving my order. It's not that difficult to shut your mouth, open your ears, and write down the order the way the customer asks for it.. Mind you, I always repeat myself to make sure it's correct anyway. The order arrives at home - The food is always so concealed that you can't even see what's in the containers or check your order before you leave the restaurant.. sure enough, no cheese for the damn tacos. The taco meat didn't taste fresh at all.. At home El Paso taco kits taste better than the tacos I got tonight. What a disappointment! We'll make fresh tacos at home from now on. read more

We decided to give this place a try due to our close proximity & all the great reviews on Yelp. We were not disappointed. The place was very clean. The waitstaff quite helpful. Kid friendly, as advertised. The fresh guacamole is made right at the table for extra kid entertainment. The taste was out of this world. The "medium" margarita was huge and refreshing. The kids loved their mango lemonade. For my meal I had the enchiladas verdes with a chili relleno on the side. The enchiladas had steak that was so tender and full of flavor, almost like pit beef, with a green tomatillo sauce on top. They were melt-in-your mouth good. I was so full that I could not finish my chili relleno, but it was quite tasty, as well. I gave El Ranchero 4 stars, only because I have had better Tex-Mex closer in to DC and out in California. For Hagerstown area, this can't be beat! My family intends on making this location a regular stop. read more

Called in for carry out - said it would be 15 minutes (ordered 6 tacos and a quesadilla) Unfortunately for me, there was NO parking. And I live about a quarter mile away. So, parked in the grocery store parking lot and walked over. By the time I arrived, it had been 15 minutes. Waited another 15 once I was there. It was not worth the wait. Soggy tacos. The wait for our food was almost an hour. Two entrees were wrong and it was such a long wait it was not worth sending them back. The salmon dinner was not as it was sold on the menu. The sauce was on the side and the salmon was fishy. Also the menu lists that it comes with grilled veggies and I asked the waiter which veggies and was told broccoli and zucchini but it was served with only broccoli. They manager made no concession for all of the mistakes and the crappy salmon entree. I will not go back nor recommend this place. On a final note my food has a long hair in it. I have long hair and thought it could be mine but don't think so. . I have never left a rating Until on any other restaurant. This one just annoyed me at the disregard of their mistakes and didn't allow any concessions for what they could have avoided with better communication and education of the staff. read more

Delicious thin and crispy chips and fantastic salsa. We often take some home. The guacamole is very good, too. My husband loves this restaurant even more than I do and eats there at least once a week with the kids, if not more often. We are vegetarian and find lots of choices on the menu. We are thrilled to have an El Ranchero on the east side of town. The service at this location is very quick and we are often in and out of the restaurant in 30-40 minutes on a weeknight. The food is delicious and as former Californians this is just the kind of Mexican food that we remember. This is the best Mexican food we have found in Hagerstown. read more

I stopped here for lunch. It was 1p & the parking lot was packed. Very clean and the staff were friendly and tentative. Pedro was a top-notch server. Vast menu. Wonderful food. El Ranchero has got done here. I'm a regular at both places in Hagerstown and they could charge whatever they want and I'm going to pay because the food is addictive. I've never noticed or been concerned about the wait staff friendliness but they get the food to you in good time ( usually about 15 ) for most meals. We stumbled upon this restaurant off I-70 and it sounded good. I can't tell you how great it actually was! The guacamole was creamy and flavorful. I order the Enchilada Trio and the green sauce was the best I've ever had. The beef enchilada wasn't ground beef, it was sliced beef and delicious. The grande burrito was huge and delicious also. Boyfriend and i tried this place on Sunday 4/10/16. We got an order of the "mix dip" which is queso, ground beef and pico de gallo with our complimentary chips and both got shrimp fajita burritos for our entrees. The "mix dip" sort of reminded me of a Mexican hamburger helper flavor without noodles or rice, but the boyfriend enjoyed it. The shrimp burritos were AMAZING! It's a nice sized burrito filled with fajita veggies and shrimp covered in a queso blanco sauce that is delicious and comes with a side of Mexican rice. The section we were seated in was quiet but they had music playing in the background so it was nice. The service was very attentive without being overbearing or annoying.
