I come here on Tuesdays with my boyfriend for Taco Tuesdays and we're never disappointed. Speedy service, great salsa bar, and the pastor tacos are legit! They're served with pineapple chunks! Happy Hour beer is a little overpriced, a can of Tecate is $3.50, eh. I will say there was one time our order for tacos got messed up so we ended up with 3 free tacos, and that's always a plus. One star removed cause it's always freezing in there and they charge for chips! Otherwise, a chill place for taco Tuesdays and friendly staff. read more

"Eh" sums this place up pretty well. Service is ok. Food is ok. Some servers seem to hate working there or atleast that is the vibe they give off. I Honestly only go because my buddy thinks the waitresses are hot and bribes me with beers to roll with him. I've heard of a few ppl having some bad experiences at this location and I can c y. On the bright side last time I was there most waitresses seemed to have a way better attitude and the overall service was better than usual. read more

Went on a Saturday night. Place was packed and they had good live music. Great place to have a few drinks and migrate to another spot.

Came for taco Tuesday which was absolutely slammed. The week before had been a little bit more mellow, but for some reason they had a line out the door..I had a large party I'd invited myself to come, and after about 30 minutes of waiting my party had began to get impatient. The manager came over and apologized for the wait and explained the situation(that he had two seperate parties sitting at a table for over two hours with their checks and had yet to pay). Came here for Taco Tuesday with my bf. Their outdoor dog friendly patio was nice. The tacos were just ok. The adobada was the only taco but everything else was just disappointing. Taco Tuesday may be worth it if you're coming here just for the adobada. However, it was still pretty packed when we came here so they must be doing something right because a lot of people were that night. read more

This place is amAzing!!! I absolutely recommend it! I started out somewhere else, had terrible service and as I was leaving that place on my way back to my hotel, I saw the word "cantina" and was still dying for a drink! I turned and parked and walked in to El Rey Cantina and I'm so glad I did. Service is a million times better, I didn't have to wait 30 mins for my margarita, and j even got some chips and salsa! I wish I lived closer to the area so I could bring all my friends here! It looks like a dj is about to happen also! Looking around I see food that looks amazing, their drink menu is creative! What happened to El Rey? They used to have such great margaritas. Today my husband and I couldn't finish our house margaritas because they were so salty tasting. I get salt around the rim. I'm all for salt around the rim!! But the actual drink tasted salty. Not a fan. What happened??!! read more

El Rey is awesome. The bartenders, waitstaff, kitchen, management ... all are friendly and welcoming. Drinks are well-poured and food is great. Street tacos, sliders and fajitas are personal favorites. If you're looking for great service, Megan, Frannie, Kiyonna, Sam, Dave (the dreadlocks guy), Trevor, Daisy, Autumn, Seni, Sabrina ... great staff! They will take care of you! read more

Food here is good, they actually mix it up with some fusion but not so in your face about it, I had their taco salad and was impressed with the Feta cheese as it mixed in surprisingly well. They serve some great margaritas, gotta have the Cadillac! and of course are fully stocked; complete with a pic of the most interesting man in the world. 4 stars is pushing it but it works. I've eaten here a few times and the food doesn't quite do it for me. With that said, the caeasar salad with chicken is straight macking!!! For sure the best thing I've had and for sure on my top 20 salads in life. It has a pumpkin seed dressing of some sort. Both times I've had to ask for more dressing. Veggie burrito, hmm not so good. New England can make a better burrito and they have 0 Mexicans. Had the carnitas tacos and again, not really good. The salsa is good but the chips are only fine, nothing to right about. Always had good service and the managers (guys in white guayabera shirts) are always really nice. Its about as much of a scene for the under 50 or non-family crowd you'll get in Ventura. I would also guess its a locals place at the bar for the most part. You can't walk in without 2/3 of the people checking you out. I think in Hollywood the average is only 1/2 so I think we're trying to hard here! I think its a little pricey for what you get but its super well decorated with a blend of Elvis, velvet and el dia de los muertos. They have a very impressive tequila selection, the ones you don't ask for a lime and you don't shoot. If you don't know those, you should pass. We stumbled upon this place awhile back on a Tuesday and it was perfect cause they had Taco Tuesday! We went there recently on another weeknight to try it again. Our server, Sam, recommended the fresh fruit margarita, I was skeptical cause I just like regular margs, but it was SO good and so was the second one ;) the farmers market burrito and the tuna tar tar were so yummy! I went to this place a few times when it first opened... only went to eat once, went to drink all of the other times. The food was pretty good and the drink prices are decent. The service, however, was horrible on more than one occasion. Without being specific, I will just say that servers should be friendly and know how to do simple math. I'm really disappointed in this place. I've never had to pay for chips and salsa. Wtf. Olas is down the street and way more chill. Don't think I'll ever come back to this place. Super bummed. Come on Camarillo. You can do better than that. This is a town known for its eclectic environment and this just doesn't do it justice. I was truly looking foreword to eating here. There's 3 options for burritos. I don't understand it. Overpriced. I just wanted good Mexican food. CaliMex is what it's gonna have to be. This place has really gone downhill. The menu has changed dramatically and use cheaper means for cocktails. I enjoyed their old menu filled with tons of options- now it's drinks filled with weird combinations. I miss the simplicity of the El Flaco. Food seems decent still, but we only went for the drinks. They turnover employees every few months too, which isn't uncommon but management seems questionable at times. read more

I've eaten here twice and the food is amazing! I had some chicken street tacos and after ordering two decided to order another. You don't usually expect anything extraordinary out of a street taco but the flavor truly was incredible. My daughter had a chicken burrito with all the fixins and that was a legit masterpiece. Hubby had the same but as a wet burrito. The chili verde sauce was yummy! I don't usually eat much in one sitting but after I finished my street tacos, I finished the kid's last 1/4 of her burrito. Adorable decor and great theme! My husband and I like to sneak in for a weekday lunch every once in awhile. staff: the cute waitresses have always been friendly, courteous and quick. Offering chip refills through out our visits - salsa is fresh and the chips are usually hot. drinks: I've never gotten past the Sangria to try to the Margaritas. I could drink a bucket of the Sangria it's so tasty! food: The rice is really tasty with fresh sweet corn in it. Unusual and I quite like it. Tasty enchiladas too. read more

Good food and friendly staff. They make you feel welcome. The bottle beer selection is a bit thin but they do carry 805 and RedHook last time I was in. Service is pretty good. Id give zero stars if i could. Dont even know where to start. Never greeted, so we just sat down. 5 min later we were asked about drinks. We ordered appetizers as well. 15 min later of not even seeing anyone on floor working she(tall caucasion tattooed waitress who looked miserable working there) came and brought us our water just as we were about to leave. 20 min after we finally got chips and salsa. Super cold and stale. Salsa was good. Too bad chips should of been in yesterdays garbage. We look around and noticed there is 5 other tables and full bar and not one single person eating. After 40 min wait on food we got our food and was never checked on after. We asked for napkins and she rolled eyes. Never speaking to us. Walked by dropped check on table not looking at us or saying a thing. Tacos were good, appetizers nasty, and thheeee worst micheladas ive ever had! Honestly i wouldnt waiste my time going there no matter how good tacos are. Waiting 20 min for no flavor guacamole was pathetic when the resturaunt wasnt even croweded. The atmosphere was so tense walking in, no laughter, no conversations, boring. Next time im crossing the street and going to que pasa tequila bar, good atmosphere, awesone music good food, good drinks and actual customer service. read more

My wife and I had a great dinner at El Rey Cantina. She ordered the Negro Modelo fish taco. It was huge and the flavor was amazing. I ordered the chicken flautas with a side of rice and beans, and it was also very tasty. The chips and salsa were also good. I definitely recommend El Rey. read more

Walked in and couldn't tell who was staff and who were patrons. Girls in tattered shorts and crop tops or plaid shirts that were too big. Given stale chips and salsa. Sent the stale chips back and were given good ones. No napkins offered, spilled some salsa, asked for napkins. I ordered two crunchy tacos, my husband ordered to Baja style tacos. All Four tacos come out on the same plate. I ask for my own plate. Had to ask for silverware. Crunchy taco shell was also stale. Gave my husband the wrong tacos. Won't be going back. El Rey Cantina in Old Town Camarillo is one of my favorite places to eat, get a beer and listen to live music. The service is always quick and friendly. I'm always greeted right away with a smile and seated quickly. Today my server Megan, treated me with that smile and good service to match. The food is always consistent and delicious. While its not necessarily traditional Mexican food, it is Cali-Mexi food innovative and fun. One of my favorites is the Gringo Taco, a hard shell taco coated in Parmesan cheese. No doubt the owner's Italian heritage had a hand in this great creation. Last I'll say I've seen some of the best bands in Ventura County or at any bar or club anywhere. Whoever picks the bands chooses carefully. Go to El Rey and I know you'll enjoy! read more
