I come here a lot. It's definitely my favorite place to get a burrito. They're fast and friendly. Very filling portions!

Best breakfast burrito on island by far. Only other thing on the menu i've tried was the Cali burrito and it was great too. I come here every time I come to Kapa'a. We had a very large group order several items and everyone liked their food. The one downfall is that you can't mix and match tacos. You have to order the same ones. So I had to order two different plates and I got octopus and crab tacos. I didn't like the fried crab on my tacos, but the octopus was delicious! Both tacos were spicy which I love, but if you like mild ask for a mild taco. The chips and salsa were also spicy, but had a great flavor. The chips even were warm for us! I just have to laugh when I see folks commenting on mexican food saying stuff like "Its not as good as L.A. or Mexico". Uggh, do you need a reminder that you are on Kaua'i on vacation. If you want what you think is good mexican food, then please go home, rather than shitting on a business that feeds a ton of people, including locals. Hands down the best mexican on Kauai. Been going here weekly for over a year and the food is incredible. My personal favorite is the carne asada burrito, it comes with guac inside and has the most delicious cooked tomato's & onions. So glad to see this food truck is still open after missing our yearly trip the last 2 years!! My husband and I visit this place a few times during our 2 weeks here and have been coming for several years. We always get the grilled shrimp and grilled fish tacos. This was another spot that did not quite live up to the hype - good food and service, but not "out of this world" as the other reviews suggested. I had the 2 taco combo with one al pastor taco and 1 fish taco. I found the al pastor a little chewy. While the fish taco was fresh and flavorful, I found the amount of cabbage on it excessive. (I'd suggest skipping the combo - the rice and refried beans were nothing to write home about). My husband enjoyed his shrimp taco, fish taco, and octopus taco. The salsas were not particularly good. The service was a bit disappointing. I was disappointed when I asked for recommendations, and was told "everything was good." My husband asked for no cheese and ordered 3 tacos - they forgot one of them (the octopus taco). When he reminded them, they made it with cheese. The location is special - the food truck is right on the beach, and has picnic bench seating with umbrellas. Overall, a decent spot - I'd suggest sticking with the seafood and asking them to cut back on the cabbage. read more

I've been on the hunt for the best fish taco on the island, and out of the places I've been El Rey Del Mar is one of my top favorites! Definitely recommend getting two fish tacos with the rice and beans. You won't regret it! Our first choice for breakfast was closed on Monday so we stumbled on this little hidden gem as we were looking for a good place to eat breakfast. We got the breakfast burritos. One with chorizo and the other with bacon. They were HUGE and worth the $9. We added guacamole to each for $1 more. The service was great and the view of the beach was priceless. read more

Meh. The steak breakfast burrito was decent, but nothing earth shattering. The offered hot sauces were only okay. Guacamole was pretty good. Customer service we received was also a three. There was a family who followed us but the grumpy owner (?) with credit card capabilities had just left (maybe they paid cash for their food and had run out when they realized they wanted drinks, or they paid for their meals with a card before the guy left, i don't know) and they could suddenly accept only cash. These folks had ordered cans of soda, but couldn't pay. The very kind young woman in the truck said it was okay and let them drink the soda anyway. Guys, hands down, my FAVORITE mexican food truck on Kauai. Im a local and im here often and im ALWAYS bringing my friends here who havent tried yet & so far they have all said the same thing (SO ONO)!! Tacos are pretty delicious as everyone stated. Al pastor meat is pretty flavorful . His truck is not located anymore in the times supermarket ( big save) plaza ( apple map should update that ) . El Rey Del Mar has the best Mexican food of any restaurant I have tried since moving to Hawaii. Growing up in Los Angeles and San Diego, I LOVE Mexican food, and have tried a lot of different restaurants. So when we moved to Hawaii, I was saddened by the fact that there weren't many "authentic" mexican places here. However, once I had the beautiful tacos and burritos from El Rey del Mar in my belly, my Mexican food craving was totally satisfied! The homemade sauces are all super delicious, so much that I wish I could bottle it up and bring it back home. The tacos and burritos are all very authentic and delicious at every bite. The location of the truck is great, with great view of the ocean and a nice place for a walk before or after the meal. Not only was this the best Mexican food in Hawaii, but the best restaurant of Kauai of the many places we have tried! Go try El Rey Del Mar. You won't regret it! Wow! My cousin who lives here recommended this place after driving around the island and I'm so glad we stopped here. I had the fish tacos rice and beans, the fish is a type of white fish. The rice was very flavorful and the beans had a sprinkle of cheese. Very filling and well worth the $13, it also came with you choice of drink. I was impressed when the gentleman came out of his truck to check on us and provided us with three types sauces and chili's to use. He suggested mixing all three was a yummy concoction and it was! The best burrito I have ever had!! We both had steak burritos. I normally don't do guacamole but it was delicious on the burrito. Even the rice and beans had such good flavor to it. Then you add the amazing homemade chipotle Mayo to it was just fantastic! We did try to mix all three sauces with was good but I just really liked the Mayo! read more

This place is legit! I'm very picky and particular on my Mexican food, since I grew up eating it. Had al-pastor tacos, carne asada, and Baja Shrimp tacos and none disappointed. The tacos were huge and very filling! I was only able to eat two tacos. If you're in the mood for some authentic Mexican food, come here!
