Living in Allied Gardens I love supporting local, family restaurants. Been to El Rodeo Taco Shop multiple times over the years trying different foods. So many options on their menus. Never disappointed. While I love their regular tacos, it's the fish tacos I can't resist. Will get two of them, take home to enjoy. Sooooo good, fish cooked just right, all the other items and sauce they add make the perfect meal. This week was there again for them again, perfect for dinner. I will be back again. However. We almost didn't go there. While all the other businesses in the row had illuminated signs over them, their sign was dark. Were they closed? Couldn't tell from where we were driving from. Decided to drive closer and see. Yes, they were open. Asked why their sign was dark, told it was on a timer, Who ever made that decision failed to understand it is out of touch with light conditions during winter months. When the business sign is dark, customers will think it is closed. Lost business. Fix the problem by swapping out the useless timer with a photocell to control sign illumination. Knowing 24/365, the photocell will always have the sign illuminated when it gets dark, increasing business. PS: Your competition across Waring Road just upgraded their main sign, very bright at night. Need to up your advertising game. read more

Slow service 4 sure! And there is no big surprise once they actually give you the "food". Plenty of oil, the oil was not hot, so the food came out shiny and greassey. Dirty floor. Difficult parking, expensive for a taco shop. read more

Tried two burritos and they were both great - the California breakfast and the surf & turf. Great proportion of meat in both, good flavor, tortilla was solid. They have 4 salsas: green, red, roasty dark, and a light orange which seems to be blended habanero. Love the last one to just add heat, but all the salsas packed flavor. The menu looks really interesting, with unique options like chile verde fries which I haven't seen before. Looking forward to going back, seems like a really local neighborhood spot. read more

Saw the flags flying for taco Tuesday and happily relinquished my cooking duties at $1.99 a taco. Got 4 each the al pastor, carne asada, carnitas and potato tacos. Would like more of a char on the meats but all were well seasoned and tasty. Fair warning it's got a usual Tuesday following and quickly filled up. Thank you for the night off! read more

My coworker enjoyed his huevos rancheros. I got a quesabirria and fish tacos. I did not enjoy my food. The quesabirria meat tasted like boiled pot roast and lacked essential flavors. The service was okay. I always expect hole-in-the-wall places to be the best, but it just wasn't flavorful enough. Maybe it was an off day. read more

We have been going here for years, they have the best California burritos ever! Same with the beef rolled tacos, so good.

Good mexican food for a late night. We're not in this part of town often, but we stopped by since we were both hungry. My boyfriend and I were in the area late at night, and everywhere else was closed. It's a drive thru, which is super convenient. The lady who took our order was adorable, 10 stars for her! She looked to be working alone, or at least we didn't see anyone else inside manning the restaurant. My boyfriend got the Supreme burrito, and I got three rolled tacos. He said the burrito was delicious, and had good flavoring. The rolled tacos were a bit crispy but weren't dry at all, and the meat inside was tender. Through my time of eating burritos in LA... I would have to say this place tops it all. I just found my favorite spot to eat. The meat was so tender and crispy at the same time, they didn't skimp on anything this burrito is packed with meat and the flavor is fire. I was getting flowers at the spot across the way and decided to try it out and they did not miss, It only took 10 min to make and the lady was super nice and she spoke Spanish and English. i definitely recommend if your in the area. read more

I hoped to have a birthday lunch with my family there, but they got my order wrong and had a rated R very graphic war movie blasting loud on the big screen so I had to leave my young children outside. I asked them to change the movie, and to correct my order, but they seemed to just brush me off. I've been a regular local customer for ten years, going several times per month. The previous family that ran this place did a great job, but whoever has been running it in recent years does not seem to care about the business. I'll probably go across the street from now on, even though I think El Rodeo's food is a little better. read more

Disgusting! I ordered a Shredded Beef Chimichanga and a Chicken Burrito to go. All the food was old. I had to spit out the first bite of the Chicken Burrito because it was all fat and gristle, the Pico de Gallo was so old I could not eat it and as the Burrito was soaked in it. I had to throw it away it was so nasty. The Chimichanga was only a little better, so my wife was able to eat about a third. All the food tasted old, the meat, the Gucamole, The Chile, even the oil they cook with. In addition, all the prices on the yelp site and their website are wrong. No problem though, I will never enter this place again. They should be ashamed of themselves! After writing this review I called El Rodeo Taco Shop to let them know about the quality of their food and the fact they may be getting people sick. So stoked. I just landed back in San Diego and this was my first taco shop I stopped at after being deprived of quality tacos for six months. They did not disappoint. And aunty at the counter was so sweet! I got the fish taco combo, fries, and guac. Everything is incredibly flavorful. I've missed this so much. The hubby and I sort of split everything so we ordered two crispy beef tacos, a side of refried beans and a breakfast burrito with bacon, eggs and cheese. Everything was tasty, the beans were super smooth and creamy, beef was flavorful tucked inside a crisp shell and topped with lots of cheese and tomatoes. The carne asada was superb! I ordered the campechana fries and nacho cheese on the side. My bf got carne asada tacos and grilled fish tacos.

I went here because on yelp it said a bean and cheese was $4.99. came to find out it was $5.99 which is fine! I bought 2 one with sour cream and guacamole and one with out. the one with sc and guac came out to $6.45. I tip 15% so the total shouldn't have been no more then $15 but i paid over $19. feel like u got scammed. food was good just make sure you check ur receipt. read more

One of our local taco shops in our neighborhood. Quite an extensive menu. Same name different owner/operator now. The wife and I come here for Taco Tuesday. Very tasty and inexpensive street tacos under 2 dollars each. Its literally a takeout taco shop but you can order and eat your food next door at the local bar. Gotta grab a beer with your tacos and there's nice seating and sports you can watch on the multiple Flat screen tvs they have. You can choose between carne asada, a big crunchy potato taco (highly recommend), carnitas, chicken, fried fish or an Al pastor taco. The wife really enjoys their sopa de res (beef soup) with rice and tortillas on a chilly night too. The service is accommodating. The order taker/cashier and the cooks are all personable. Every Neighborhood in San Diego has their favorite Mexican take out place, this is ours! For breakfast I recommend the Birria Chilaquiles (it is so good you will want to change religions). Lunch of course is Taco's, and Dinner must the quintessential SoCal Carne Asada burrito with a large Horchata. I would like to give this place a 5 stars!! I ordered a combination plate and I have to say it was delicious! The meet in the taco was moist and the shell was at it's point. The combo also had enchiladas and have to say I loved them. The beans and rice had great flavor. If this was good I want to go back and try their whole menu!! read more

Hello Yelpers . I went back to my so-called favorite taco shop called El Rodeo Taco Shop, located at 5149 Waring Rd. Unfortunately, it was not a good experience. I tried to place an order on the phone, and it went to voice mail. I ordered in person and saw the cook a young guy in the kitchen. I said hello, and a few minutes later, a young lady came to the counter. I told her I was a regular customer and wanted to try something new. Usually, when I say this, it's acknowledged, and to provide you would give service. I don't have that helped much because the Carne asada burrito I received was more like a Pico de gallo burrito with very little meat. This burrito folded up in the bag, carrying it. A $10.00 Carne asada burrito should be $5.00 if this is the amount of meat given. Taco Bell gives you more in a steak burrito. I read the other reviews and saw that Jaz as agreed. I did enjoy the guacamole and chips I had. I overall, take my score down to a 2.5 stars. This is so disappointing when I high hopes in this place. Yelpers, you have been warned about the Carne asada burrito. This place does not give you enough, and your burrito will be flat like a quesadilla . You have been warned . read more

I think I came here a few months ago with a friend. This time I came alone. I ordered a bean and cheese burrito and 3 rolled chicken tacos. Service was very fast. The price was okay. This is more or less a typical taco shop. Burrito tasted fine. It was a little runny but held together well. The rolled tacos were loaded, including sour cream. I might opt to leave that off next time. They weren't great. Kind of had a bitter taste. I was mildly disappointed. The spicy sauce wasn't super spicy. It's okay as taco shops go, but nothing spectacular. read more

Had to lower my rating of Rodeo to two stars. I ordered a burrito, and asked to add cheese. There was only, barley, a hint of cheese on one side of this $10 burrito. They were skimpy on the meat, and unfortunately there were too many grizzley bites. I also ordered a side of beans. Again, hardly a sprinkle of cheese on them. It all just felt lacking after spending $15 on one burrito and a side of beans - I mean come on El Rodeo - It appears that you have lowered your quality and quantity. I had been craving a carne asada burrito. Hadn't had one in months and that just completely blew it for me. I realize this is just a small joint, but you can get a decent entree at a restaurant for $15 to $20. The two stars is for the meat not being to salty, but still, if you take and grind a $10 ribeye you are going to get a ton of meat, and rodeo should be getting meat wholesale. Disappointed. El Rodeo has gone cheap. It makes me want to get over to La Mesita Mexican food and have a do-over. Their food is always on point. Ciao, I will not be back. read more
