If you're looking for fast and cheap but decent Spanish food, this is the place for you. I love their oxtail soup (every Thursday) and their daily lunches are satisfying and tasty too. I usually get the yellow rice, red beans, & stewed oxtails or pernil (roast pork) with a side of freshly sliced avocado. Under $10! They made a great surf and turf platter for around $15 too but most times, I'm just not looking to break a $20. This place never disappoints. Everything tasted fresh and was delicious. I recommend this place to everyone and anyone looking for a great meal for a decent price. We ordered food in a family style fashion so I had a mix of everything. We had Chicken and beef stew, arroz con gandules (rice and pigeon peas), beans, and alcapurias. Food alone is five stars. The service was good but a lot of empty plates were left on the table. Which caused a cramped experience. Other than that the place is good enough to eat and enjoy. If you like authentic tasting Puerto Rican food then this is the place for you. I've had 3 different dishes so far (pernil, pollo horniado & sanchocho) and all have been cooked to perfection. Even the few sides I've tasted have been cooked and seasoned perfectly. This is home cooking at it's best. The only downfall and the reason why I couldn't give it 5 stars is the service. Although all the workers are pleasant and nice for the most part the wait time is awfull. Since the primary kitchen is mostly visible you can see there is no real system in place to take orders, prepare the food and accept payment. It's like everyone who works there does a little bit of everything which causes confusion internally and no one focuses on one responsibility. It's obvious the owners are putting all the focus on the quality of the food and boy is it good. I don't go often because of this fact but when I'm craving good latin home cooking I'll tolerate the wait time because it's so damn good!! Maybe next time I'll try calling in my order first and see if that helps speed up the process. read more

Love El Sabroso. My usual dish is the pernil with yellow rice and beans. Delish. But I've tried the oxtail stew, the ropa vieja, baked chicken, and maduros and they were all great. However, I didn't like their mofongo; filling, yes, but not tasty. I deducted one star because the service is sloooooooow. It's a mom and pop kind of store so that's okay, but some days they are truly awful. Thankfully, their food more than makes up for it. If you're taking food to go, save yourself some time by calling and ordering in advance. Then you don't have to wait in line and can walk straight to the cashier to pay. read more

El Sabroso was a great restaurant when they were the original restaurant...El Sabrosito. The staff is rude and you can wait for 1/2 hour before they help you. No one knows what they are doing...Their arroz con gandules maybe had 1 gandul, Their pasteles are great but you never know if they have them or not, etc Ordering over the phone is nearly impossible since you are placed on hold, when they pick up again they don't know what you had ordered or you might get a new person. The food is always cooked and seasoned to the "T", and I have never had a bad dish...my favorite (Shrimp with Garlic Sauce and yellow rice)...catch them on a Friday or Saturday and you will typically have a bit of wait if you dont call in, or may chance not having a table because of the crowd, but its definitely worth the wait every time. read more

El Sabroso seriously lives up to its name. 'Sabroso' means flavorful. I had the arroz con gandules with pernil. Both were delicious. I got the 'big' size ($2 more), and I didn't think it was that big, but that might be because my husband kept stealing my food! The rice was very good. The pernil was moist, soft, and super tasty. No cuerito though, which is a shame. My husband had camarones al ajillo and tostones. The shrimp was very flavorful. the tostones were awesome, on the thicker side. We also had alcapurrias and they were good. They would have been better if they had been fresh, but you could tell they had been fried hours before and were no longer very crunchy. Had dinner here a few night ago, it was surprisingly delicious. We had the Mofongo w/shrimp & the Ropa Vieja and we were impressed. We also ordered a side of Tostones and they were fresh & crispy. The foods good and though nothing will blow your mind the quality for price is solid. But be aware that the service can be pretty bad at times. From delivery to eating in there is a problem with using pen and paper to write orders and a system to process those orders into food. Twice Ive eaten in and was forgotten about four over 30 minutes. I've been a faithful patron since their humble beginnings on Lincoln St in a small hot 2 burner kitchen. Now in their new improve location on Central Ave, I'm still a faith faithful customer. The food is the most authentic, the Pernil (pork) and Yellow rice is always delicious. The Ropa Vieja is tender and tasty. The Pupusas on Wednesday are the best around. The chicken in the oven is consistently delicious. The Alcapurrias are known by everyone to be just like in Puerto Rico. If you want a taste of real Latin Cuisine try El Sabroso. This place used to be on Lincoln Street and it was so much better when they were there. The food quality has gone down just a little. The food still taste good but now that they have a bigger place service has gone downhill. I always order takeout because if you eat in your waitress just brings you the food and forgets about you. Even trying to get their attention will not work unless you actually go up to her and tap her on the shoulders. You have to ask for napkins, forks, spoons, I always thought this was common sense to bring a spoon a fork and knife to the table, napkins. I shouldn't have to ask for these things...because of this I give it three stars. read more
