I have heard may people talk about it and everything they have been saying is true. This place is absolutely delicious. I ordered a to-go order and I am happy to say that this is one of the places that is perfecting the to-go option. It was quick and the portions are huge. I ordered the carne asada and my wife ordered the Chimi a l crema. We were both immediate fans. The carne was the BEST I have ever had. I will say that both times I have been in, it takes us 30 seconds to be seated at a table and 10 minutes before we are greeted by a server. However! Once we get our drink orders in and food(since we had that much time we already had our full order ready) service great! Drinks are made well and the food is very satisfying. Looked this place up on the way through Flagstaff. Had really good reviews. We were surprised how busy it was and there was good reason. The food was all amazing. They have the largest selection on the menu i have ever seen. They cover every region of mexico with there food. Seafood, mexico city style etc i was really impressed. You wont be disappointed. Very authentic! Normally a wait but you can call ahead and put your name on the list which is great. I strongly recommend the chicken enchiladas, they're all great but my favorite is the mole. I've also tried the strawberry daiquiri and it's really tasty! The margaritas are strong too. The service is probably the best in Flagstaff, they always remember us and Ernesto and Jose Luis are always funny, hospitable and accommodating! However we've never had a bad waiter. I'm very very picky when it comes to Mexican food because I'm Mexican so if it doesn't taste authentic to me I won't eat it but every single thing on the menu I've tried tastes like my family made it! This was our first visit. We were immediately seated in a nice booth. Service was prompt and efficient. Water in (plastic throw away cups) was brought immediately along with chips and salsa. Salsa was very good. we both ordered a Margarita. I hade a blue one and my wife had the original. We ordered the regular and glad we did as they are quite large. We split the Molcajete. A good choice large shrimp, strips of both chicken and beef simmered with onions,peppers, mushrooms. Great, not a lot of soupy sauce like a lot of places. Knew it had to be a good place as there were a lot of locals in the restaurant and indeed it was. Well worth a visit. We now have a new place in Flagstaff when we are passing through. read more

I have been coming to El Tapatio for over a year now and was disappointed to only have recently discovered it. People need to know more about it! This is hands down my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. The atmosphere combined with the quality food makes for a perfect dining experience. The Service I have experienced the same waiters/waitresses since I started coming and even before they started remembering us, they have been friendly and welcoming. I haven't experienced any staff that seem unhappy about working there. The manager is actively involved in the restaurant and it's customers. If he is in the building, he'll make his rounds and say hello and if you write a review on this platform, you'll notice he responds to it which is excellent. The Food There is a reason I come almost every week for Taco Tuesday, because it's the best! But I have come even when the meals are full priced because this restaurant isn't a "hit or miss." I know I can try anything on their menu and and have a great meal. The portions are overly generous, and with free bottomless chips & salsa, what's not to love? Not to mention that the menu is also reasonably priced. My go to meal has been the carne asada or carnita soft tacos. The meat is seasoned perfectly and they top your tacos with these delicious grilled onions. Overall I will rave about El Tapatio to everyone I know because it's rare to find a restaurant with not only excellent food, but also with the warm and welcoming atmosphere the staff creates. I wish I could have had a good experience. I must say I was very disappointed. The food was very bland. My wife had the tortilla soup and it was so full of boiled chicken but zero flavor. I had a combo plate and it was also bland and everything tasted the same. The only thing we liked was the beans and rice. Oh Yah our server was a total dud. She did not see interested in our table I guess because we did not order Alcohol. We asked for more chips and she forgot to send them. She only remembered when she brought our food. Then we asked for more salsa and she never brought it. She also just dropped the check by the table and never said anything just wasted off. The service was a zero and the food was a 3/10. read more

I was alone and they ignored me. The girl at the front with the ponytails decided it was better to look at her phone than to seat me Super weird vibe. As a business owner I felt it was very strange that this happened. Too bad for the wait staff that missed out on my 100% tip as I know they need it because of covid. While visiting we tried another highly rated Mexican restaurant and the food in our opinion was just subpar compared to El Tapatio. The services was just extraordinary and attentive to our low waters, chip refills and empty plates. The ambiance there was lively and lovely as well. It felt authentic with great food and great service. We would highly recommend trying while in town!
