BEWARE NUT ALLERGY sufferers. My son and his girlfriend ordered the fajita dinner to share. It was late at night so we had them eat in the car as we drove back towards our place in Williams. After a few minutes, my sons girlfriend had a reaction to something in the food. Whether there were nuts in the kitchen (and there was cross-contamination) or they used some kind of nut (e.g. peanut oil), the reaction was swift and required an epi-pen and then a trip to the emergency room. We had to then throw everything away, sanitize the car and spend hours at the ER. Food businesses need to be more sensitive to life-threatening allergens. Today was my first time coming to this place, my boyfriend and I wanted to try it since we heard good things. We looked at the wait time and saw it was busy but we went anyways because we wanted good food and didn't mind waiting to be seated. Arrived and sat down immediately which was good because we thought it was going to be busy. Sat down and was greeted by our waitress who asked us what we wanted to drink and if we needed to time which we said we did. There was another family that was eating next to us, they didn't receive their order until a little later. We decided on carne asada plate and 6 mini tacos along with crispy rellenos. We ordered a couple minutes before the family got their order, no idea what they ordered but it was a good amount. We waited about 45 minutes after ordering to get our food and within that time the family also asked where their last order was since they didn't receive it. Our waitress also never came back within that time to give us refills which we wanted since we both finish our drinks. The person then brought it back about 5-10 minutes after completely on fire, well the skillet he was holding. The meat they ordered the guy dropped on the floor having to go get them a new one. Once we got our food we were over eating because of how long we had to wait for it. We weren't in a rush but 45 minutes was a bit much, the waitress came back and asked how everything was and if everything was as good, we said it was but would like boxes to go. She explained that if we were in a rush that we needed to tell them so they could put our order ahead of everyone else's. She also said they were busy but in the time that we were there who ever walked in would be seated immediately. We probably won't come back to this place considering the service because our waitress never came and told us what the time was on our food, she only came out after the people brought the food and after I asked for boxes to go. It was a good portioned meal, big sizes for the mini tacos and carne plate. Just heads up if you are looking to wait a while for food rather go salsa brava they won't let you down. read more

Walked in just before before 9 PM last night (Friday) and was promptly seated. Ordered the 3 item combo plate with the Crispy Chili Relleno, Ground Beef Taco, and the Server suggested Shredded Beef Enchilada. The meal came with Rice and Beans and the portion size was much more than expected and maybe a little too large to be eating that late in the evening. The Service was Excellent and the Meal was Delicious. I will definitely visit again on my next trip to Flagstaff. read more

Found this place and the reviews made us want to check it out and we were NOT DISAPPOINTED!!! The customer service is exceptional! Everyone works together and are the happiest servers I've seen in quite a while. The food is authentic and absolutely delicious, and the portions are big enough to share, though I suggest ordering multiple things so you can try it all!! Wow. A small bar is behind hostess station with a tequila selection most valley restaurants can't match. Then the food, it's awesome. My friend and I are in town camping and we saw this restaurant on Yelp and were impressed with the 5 star reviews. We arrived at 5:45 on a Thursday and were seated promptly. I ordered the enchiladas trio and honestly there were the best I have ever had. The mole was my favorite but the chipotle was also excellent. We also order the queso fundido and it was equally excellent. Worst service I've ever had - ever! - and the food was average at best. It took just under one hour for the food - enchiladas plate and a burrito plate. We all know that all you have to do is fill a tortilla and cover it with sauce. The carne asada was over cooked and the enchiladas were mediocre. No one ever checked to see if we needed anything after getting our food. We had to go to the front to get to go containers (we ate too many chips while waiting for our food) and to ask for our check. There were lots of people waiting for a table, I don't understand why. We will not go back. There has to be better Mexican food in town. I think we have a new favorite Mexican restaurant in Flagstaff. My wife and I decided to give this relatively new place (4 months) a try for lunch today and we couldn't be more pleased. We came in just after the lunch hour and the service was first rate. Our waiter, Mario met us at the door and seated us in a very colorful and comfortable Mexican themed booth and took our drink and appetizer orders. We started with the The Añejo Cadillac Margaritas, which were awesome, and what may have been the best guacamole I've ever had that I didn't make myself. It was HUGE and full of big chunks of fresh avocado. Not knowing that the guacamole was going to be so big we both ordered the Grande (3 item) combo plates and chose some of the same items. When the GIANT plates were served we knew we would be taking a fair portion of our meal home to eat later. We both had shredded beef tacos that were barbacoa style and were seasoned very well. We also both decided to try the deep fried chili relleno which turned out to be a very good choice. I had a chicken chimichanga and my wife had a tamale as our third item. These went home with us along with good amount of rice and beans because so full we just couldn't eat any more. Oh, yeah, if your palate runs to the spicy side ask for the HOT salsa. This place is mad good. The service, atmosphere, and, above else, the food was top notch. I got the Tapatio Enchiladas. It came with a green chili, cream, and mole. The cream was slightly tangy and not heavy at all. The pork used in the enchiladas seemed stewed until fork tender. The mole was chocolaty and rich. It was perfect after a cold night camping. Just seeing mole on the menu was a nice surprise. Speaking of the menu, it was huge. The variety was baffling. Portions were substantial and I didn't feel cheated in any way. Stopped in for a dine-in lunch with the hubby. Tables are super clean, disposable condiments (salt, pepper, sweetener) for COVID conscious and additional partitions for booths. But I believe it had to be in order to match the price. This place isn't cheap.. 2 people $37.00 for two meals and no drinks to go is pretty up there for a Mexican restaurant. I wanted to give this place a higher rating, I really did. Excellent service and lively atmosphere, birthday party celebrations, and a waiting list for seating. Food was leaning towards the 'Chi-Chi's Mexican food' crowd, you know chimmichanga-everything. This included the Chile Relleno which was wrapped in a flour tortilla and summarily executed in a deep fryer. Apparently this is noted in the small print on the menu, caveat emptor. Puzzlingly, this style is popular here but I suspect only with the types who have never had an authentic chile relleno, if you are prone to take their culinary advice. I see this tactic as a time-and-skill-saving device employed by management and kitchen staff, but I could be wrong. So, with that said, the Ranchero enchiladas were excellent: tasty, well seasoned and the cheese was melty and yummy. Portions were generous, and as noted earlier, the wait staff were attentive and service was excellent on a crowded Saturday night (in August 2021 no less). We chose this restaurant because of the great reviews of my fellow Yelpsters. It was Saturday night and we had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated, but that can be a sign of a great restaurant. Inside, it looked like your typical family owned and run establishment. Based upon previous reviews I chose the Seafood Enchiladas ($16). They touted real Crab and Shrimp inside with a creamy sauce on top. My girlfriend chose the Beef Fajitas ($18). When the plates arrived, they had large amounts of beans, rice and salad with avocado on top along with corn tortillas. The Seafood Enchiladas looked fat and inviting. The Beef Fajitas were presented with much fanfare when the waiter lit them up on fire at our table. We were impressed with what was set in front of us and took the pictures you see. But when we started to tuck in, we noticed that the Enchiladas had 3 Shrimp between 2 rolls, and the fajitas had 4 small strips of meat. Disappointing! My girlfriend did order a Tequila Sunrise ($8.75) and it was mostly juice and ice. Hardly any booze in it. Another disappointment! Total for this fiasco was $47.24 after tax. This is a lot of money to pay for beans, rice, onions, peppers, salad, tortillas and no booze. My fellow Yelpsters, you blew it on this one! Service was courteous, cheerful and efficient. Wow, just wow! Arizona, just like our home state, is land-locked, and a place you just don't expect to find seafood options, especially good ones. Thus, you can easily picture our surprise at the perfection that was our first bites of the Camarongos. Spicy, garlicky, buttery, the shrimp and mushrooms of this appetizer were better than many we've had in coastal regions. Our mouths were watering at the aroma before the dish even made it to the table. Diners at the next table over asked us about the dish, being just as astounded by the aroma and presentation as we were. For Dinner, Raz had Mojarra. I'm not really partial to fish, but even I found that whole fish wonderful. If you aren't squeamish about the presentation, head, fins, and all, the crispy, smoky skin and the tender, flaky interior are absolutely to-die-for. I'm pretty sure it's meant to be a family-style platter, but Raz was starving and polished the whole thing off almost entirely by himself. I got a one-item combination (Tapatio Chico) which I think means it was a smaller size of Chimichanga than the full Chimi dinner. That was perfect for me, since the shared appetizer was almost enough to fill me up entirely. The Spanish rice and beans that complimented the chimi were every bit as wonderful as my grandmother's used to be, and the chimi itself was bursting with flavor. Add in the festive atmosphere, beautifully carved bancos, and hand-painted tables, and this dinner was an experience worth the drive from home to experience. We found El Tapatio while moving my son into his freshman dorm at Northern Arizona University. An authentic Mexican restaurant that I would expect to find only in old Mexico!
