Came up from Phoenix. Didn't expect much as we have the best Mexican food in Phoenix. Was so pleasantly surprised! Best place to dine. Everyone there is so awesome and the food was amazing. My boyfriend is allergic to mushrooms and we didn't realize their fajitas with shrimp came with mushrooms. We let them know and they didn't hesitate to bring us a new plate. We even offered to pay for the other plate as it was our mistake for not noticing the mushrooms on the menu. They refused to let us pay for it. Small town kindness. Good people. Omg this place is so good! We're from So Az and we know Mexican food... This is what we dream our restaurant will be like! It's beautifully decorated and servers are all wonderful! I had the House Margarita ($7?) with Presidente Brandy and to eat the Chile Colorado ($13) aka Red Chile- deliciousness! My bf had the Dragon Margarita ($10) and said it was delicious, it was his FIRST EVER margarita! He also had the 5 de Mayo Enchiladas ($17) and said they were the best he's ever had. We also both LOVED the rice & beans! They're doing it all great here. We're just visiting but I hope to try the seafood next time! Honestly, we need to remove the stigma that Mexican food should be cheap because let's face it, they struggle the same as every other restaurant/cuisine. Food has changed over the last several years. Not near as good as it once was. I know COVID has caused some changes but food was not good

AVOID! I ordered the taco salad with ground beef and right out of the kitchen it looked unappetizing. The juice from the beef had soaked all the way through the hard shell and covered the plate underneath. I'm not really one to send food back so I decided to eat it. The flavor was decent although the ground beef had been ground down into a paste, even finer than Taco Bell meat. The service was very good and everyone who worked up front was kind and welcoming. I knew something was wrong as we were leaving... My stomach was beginning to cramp but I assumed it was just from overeating and having too much Diet Pepsi. I figured I'd be fine in an hour or so. 4 hours later as we were getting ready for bed I felt my face flush and the feeling was accompanied by a throbbing headache. I knew what was coming. Everything from dinner came back up in such a forceful fashion. The thing is, I felt so much better afterward. I drank some pepto and went to sleep. If that was the end of this I wouldn't be writing this review. I write this review at 1:30 pm the next day as I play musical chairs with the toilet between my front and back end. Everything in my body hurts. It's the type of throw up that feels like a demon is trying to crawl it's way out. I've hit the bullseye on the shart board. Life is miserable. My wife had the pulled chicken and is fine. I myself, however, will never be going back to El Tapatio 666. read more

Our first time here. When we arrived we asked about wait time. We were told 15-20 mins. After 30 mins I went up to the young lady and asked how many people were still in front of us... there were 4 more... I asked her how much time before they were seated... she says, 15-20 mins. She said the same thing to every person that walked in! I told her she should be more honest with people and left. Found this place here on Yelp. No reservation. They take your phone number and call when your table is ready. Not a long wait. We had a booth which was brightly decorated and unique. Instead of the usual bean dip and salsa on the table while you wait, they had a bowl of cabbage relish which was amazing piled on a tortilla chip. Our waiter was an extremely friendly young man that reminded me of a character from a David Lynch movie! I'm not saying that in a negative way!! He was wonderfully entertaining! So fun. When the plates arrived, we were surprised at the size. Huge portions! We both were very impressed with the quality of the food. This place is a Mexican food lover's paradise! As close to authentic Mexican food as I have been to in this state. The host was great and the food was well prepared. There wasn't queso blanco as the main cheese used but that's probably due to location. All in all still a great place. Of course as others have said the decor is very vibrant and unique. When I return to Flagstaff I will be eating here at least once. read more

We ate there again the other day Olivia was great again. Problem we asked to buy the habanero salsa because we really liked it last time. She asked the manager and he said a dollar per oz. and you could only get it in 12, 24, and 32 oz's so we got the 12oz which is way high but, we really liked so was willing to pay it. We got our order walked out to the car and checked it. There was no where near 12 oz's in the cup maybe 8. When my husband went back in and told the manager he said well it's expensive to make. To me that doesn't give you the right to short us by a lot. My husband ended up getting his money back and no salsa to go with our lunch. Our Veggie Fajitas was also half the size of last time and super greasy. What a shame won't be back. We also had to stop at the store and buy salsa before we got home with it $3.50 for 16oz at the store for habanero salsa. read more

unfortunately I cant even give a true review on the food because we didn't even get to eat. We were visiting Flagstaff for the very first time and craving Mexican food. We decided to give this place a try due to the high rating on yelp. We were greeted promptly by what seemed to be the manager and seated with in minutes. We were give chips and salsa and was told our server would be with us soon... 5...10..15 minutes went by and no one came to take our drink order. After 10 minutes of waiting we started to count the number of employees that passed us by. The count was 13. 13 times an employee passed us up with out any acknowledgment. We flagged down someone who again told us we would be attended to soon, but after 20 minutes of waiting in a half empty restaurant on a Thursday night is unacceptable. My husband was hangry and we decided to leave. We decided to try the taco truck down the street which was an even worse experience... I am so disappointed and cant wait to get back home to have some real authentic Mexican food. read more

I grew up in the Mexican food business, and my wife cooks it as good as anyone, so my home is usually where I get my best Mexican food. This place is my go to place when we are visiting Flagstaff though, as they have dishes not usually found in "fake" Mexican food places, and everything tastes authentic. Service has been excellent every time we go with our large family, and price fair for the quality. I'm sure there are glitches, as represented by a couple bad reviews, but there isn't a restaurant even close to the authenticity and quality that you get for Mexican food in Flagstaff, and I've done them all. read more

I visited this restaurant based on the reviews and boy do I regret it! This is based on our visit in July 2019. The server was very unknowledgeable. Could not tell me the difference between the 2 types of chile relleno they offer. Chips were stale. When my plate arrived, it was incorrect and I asked for the correct item. Server tried to blame me for him writing down the wrong item. Ugh, really? I was given the correct item and asked if they could take away the incorrect one. I was told that I could keep it. Why would I? It was not what I ordered. The kicker was when a different server (female) asked my husband and I if we wanted separate checks. Good lord! However food did not have much flavor. Absolutely Fabulous! Authentic and great flavors. Great decor and customer service as well. This is so great that we have actual good Mexican in Flagstaff because before this, there was none. Mediocre Mexican at best. Had the Mole Enchilada's. Really nice, good flavor, right amount of spice, beans were great. I always can judge a place on their enchilada's. If they are bad, or drowning in sauce and cheese, that's not an Mexican Enchilada, that's something tex mex to who knows what? I love this place so far. Everyone was great and the food was so wonderful. Note: I lived in Mexico for 10 years and I am from San Diego. I really understand Mexican food. This is the real deal. Some complain about the price, so go to the others in town that are cheaper, you will get the cheap mexican food and won't get as good quality as well. I am ok on the prices, It's not Mexico and it's much higher end if you will than the rest. You can pay the same prices for Salsa Brava but...hahahahahahaha. Get Real. that's not Mexican!! hahahaha! After a busy day hiking around the Grand Canyon we made our way back to Sedona. We knew stopping for dinner in Flagstaff was inevitable, but we weren't sure where. We always lean toward Mexican food and the crew pretty much held true to form. Based on reviews we decided to visit El Tapatio 6. We started with incredible guacamole, chips and salsa. My GIGANTIC margarita hit the spot! I ordered Chili Colorado, a dish my Dad would always order - he said made right it was the mark of an excellent Mexican restaurant. I'll say, El Tapatio 6's Chili Colorado is one of the best I've had. Refried beans and rice, perfect. My wife had a shrimp dish and my kids ate all sorts of things. Everyone enjoyed their meal - a huge success! Brenda our server was excellent - welcoming and friendly. We will likely eat there again on this trip - it was THAT good! We live in the Bay Area and get wonderful Mexican food - we know when it's good and when it isn't. This is better than good - it's exceptional! read more

Every visit to Flagstaff we try a different restaurant. This time it was El Tapatio #6. I ordered machaca con hueves, hubby had the rib eye dinner. Huge servings. Machaca came with rice, beans and tortillas if your choice. Machaca was made with onions, tomatoes and was delicious. Rib eye was juicy and cooked medium just like it was ordered. Also came with rice, beans and a fried jalapeño. Steak was very tender and almost did not need a knife. They also serve drinks and beer if your in the mood. Parking is easy.
