Enjoyed the Sunday brunch for the first time. For a buffet style brunch the food was very good. Highlights were corn stuffing and the chile verde. The manager was great and gave us a tour of the set up. Salvador was a very nice and attentive server and did a great job. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was lively with a good crowd.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would give them a try if in the Covina area. "FIMP" Food is my Passion

Went again this month. It was 104degrees outside. It was slightly cool but was hot inside. My husband ordered a margarita, it was watery, he left half of it.he ate his taco and half chilereleno. Not very good. I got carne asada and shrimp. First they gave me a butter knife to cut it; then another knife that one could not cut it. I tore a piece and it was chewy, terrible. Sadly after 30 years plus they are getting worse at least the waiter was nice. We waited a 1/2 hour for our food. I think we have given up.

Sometimes there's something comforting about a restaurant where you know exactly what you're going to get, and El Torito is one of those places for me. I'm also a big fan of the chips and salsa, and it's way too easy to fill up on them before the meal even arrives. Reliable restaurants are underrated, and I've never left this location feeling disappointed.

Had a great dinner on a random Thursday night! Our waiter, Salvador, was awesome! He took care of us and made sure our dining experience was perfect! The food was tasty and the service was excellent. We will definitely be back!

Oofff... I didn't realize it is a C rating, I pass by this place so frequently and I haven't been here in so long. I used to LOVE THE Corn cake, it's this sweet corn mash thats not really even a cake. We order the grande fiesta platter, and the ignited fajita superme. (We requested non spicy) Also a queso dip for the chips. It was so good we cleaned the plates off almost instantly, the flautas so flaky and crispy. Quesadilla stuffed with cheese. It was so satisfying. The service is a bit slow, not bad but I was getting a little impatient. The inside is the same as always warmly lit, not too bright.

First time at El Torito and I heard good things about the place an food. It was a weekday night so wasn't as busy, we only had to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready and we sat at a booth. The place was very well decorated with many statues, facade building structures and decorations as if you are in a very cozy homestyle village. The chips we got were a bit hard but the refills are much better, the salsa was actually really spicy. Unfortunately I am not good with spicy food, most of the food were listed as spicy, however, our server was able to accommodate and put in our order as non-spicy. We ordered the queso dip so I can eat the chips they gave, very delicious when hot! Difficult to eat once cooled so eat it while it's hot. We also got the Grande Fiesta Platter, nonspicy, which meant the wings were plain (still amazing, crispy), flautas were so flaky and crispy, and nachos were good but when the beans solidified it was hard to eat without sticking to my mouth. For mains, we shared the ignited fajitas supremas, it looks like it had the most to offer as a mix of everything. We got flour tortillas and it was good, I think the corn bread was the best, I feel they gave more shrimp than chicken/beef but the portions may be for one person rather than 2. Overall, we ate everything, I enjoyed the food, I really want to try their brunch buffet, I think I would enjoy it more.

Just left Sunday brunch at El torito on 3/15 and I don't even know where to start with what a disaster this place is. We made a reservation for 12 guests for my moms 64th birthday about 1 month in advance and requested to be sat outside for a more spacious and less noisy environment as we would have a newborn baby with us + my 90 year old grandmother. As soon as we got there, we were placed at a crammed table INSIDE although we were told originally told we would get the outside space. Upon sitting in the very tight space, we all got up to go serve ourselves at the buffet which did not have any plates available for about 10 minutes and a lot of the main dishes had not been replenished. Guests were squeezing in wherever they could in the buffet as there was 0 structure and no employees watching the buffet to make sure there was some sort of organization. It honestly looked like a bunch of ants fighting for food. My husband and I then got in the taco line while we waited for plates as it was a long wait for tacos anyway. There was 1 lady at the taco station making tortillas which took her a VERY long time to make. This is not her fault-only El Torito's fault for not staffing properly. When it was finally our turn to ask for tacos, she proceeded to give us tortillas and we helped ourselves to serving the meat as we saw other people doing so. The taco lady yanked the serving spoon away from my husbands hand and said it was her job to serve us. We thought that was very rude and uncalled for. We didn't know she was also supposed to serve us as she was SO busy making tortillas. Again, this is El Torito's fault for lacking organization. Aside from this, None of the food was labeled so there was a lot of very confused people just serving themselves. I had random people behind me asking me what the dish was that I was serving myself. Finally, when the mariachi came to sing my mom happy birthday, one of the hosts/servers walked a family of 10 right THROUGH the mariachi which completely ruined the video we were recording for my mom with the mariachi singing to her. This place lacks lots of class, good service, organization, and quality. I remember coming here about 10 years ago when it was a lot different. It's safe to say, we don't plan on coming back here and I don't advise anyone to come here for any special celebrations as management does not care to make your experience a special one. My mom was very disappointed that we had to spend her birthday here. My sister asked to speak to a manager halfway through our meal and we were told a manager would come but they never did. I would appreciate if management reached out to me directly so we could discuss this matter.

I took my mother-in-law and she requested El Torito. I placed on online order for a 5:00pm pick-up. We arrived at 5:08 and called the for curb-side pick up. After giving my name plus my order #, whomever was helping asked if I was sure that I called the West Covina location. I was then placed on hold for 13:28 before I walked up to the check-in and asked to speak to the manager. Just then, the guy who put me on hold was walking towards me with my order. I said, "do you realize that you still have me on hold?" and held up my cell phone. He said "sorry, we are slammed." It was clear my order was not done on time. I did not get my order until 5:24, with an original pick of 5pm. I will not return. Why 3 stars...the food was surprisingly good. read more

If you like good prices for happy hour you should come here. Good blue moon specials with appetizers as well. I recommend the street tacos. I use to go to the Pasadena El Torito but when I found Ralphie works at the West Covina Restaurant I started coming here. He always greets us and ask if we are doing okay, nothing beats great hospitality. read more

We came here for lunch at 1:50 and the hostess told us there was a 30 minute wait unless we wanted to do the brunch buffet. She said they would be seating until two. That was obvious miscommunication considering they begin to put all the buffet food away. I wish the hostess had phrased it better when she had told us because we ended up rushing. The manager was kind enough to give us a small discount over the misunderstanding. Food was good. Beef tacos and the huevos rancheros were really good! The manager also saved two ice creams for us when we were done. I will be back to try the food again! I was impressed with the food considering how quickly we had to fill up our plates. read more

I hate to give only one star but the fact that I waited an hour for table and the hostess claimed to never have put our name on list was irresponsible! Then we went up after 45 mins and they claimed to never have written our name down and they don't have tables was very unfortunate. The staff proceeded to not care about our situation and told us to wait an additional 30 mins even though that was the time of closing the kitchen and didn't make sense. The staff didn't care, and neither do I! Fuck this location! read more

I've been coming to el torito for years I love it here. The margaritas are always on point and the service is great. Vianka is my go to server shes awesome, she really goes the extra mile. We always get the tableside guacamole, it's so fresh and delicious, made to taste. The veggie fajitas is also our favorite. Ralph is also one of our favorite el torito employees, always makes our experience a good one. We will definitely be back soon. read more

We used to come here all the time, their Petita dressing is amazing, and the service is excellent, we moved to Michigan 15years ago, came back to enjoy lunch, and one of our old time waiters was still here. His name is Hector E. He remembered us from when we used to come here, as well he remembered my family and my in-laws. So decided to give this spot another try being that the e was a disaster HUGE mistake!! Waiter Raymond took our order (nice guy) then we noticed this other couple was seated behind us that the host and Raymond were friends with! Well coincidentally they got their food first of course and here we are about 45mins still sitting there, still no food only water and chips and salsa! Jorge came outside multiple times, clearly saw how many people were waiting, and even recorded the crowd on his phone three different times for social media. Knowing the capacity of the restaurant, he could have easily informed everyone that the remaining people in line would likely not get in. Instead, we waited over three hours with no communication. While we were waiting, I repeatedly watched people call Jorge. He would come outside, greet them, and bring them straight inside. I personally saw this happen at least six different times. When it was finally our turn to speak with the host, we were told there were no seats left, that we would have to stand, and that we wouldn't even be able to order food. I confronted Jorge about letting those other groups in ahead of everyone else. His response was that he knew them personally and that they were friends of the restaurant owners. That explanation only made the situation worse. My wife had just finished a 14-hour hospital shift, and we came here hoping to enjoy the game together. Instead, we spent three hours waiting only to be treated as though our time didn't matter. What was most shocking was Jorge's attitude. He literally told me, "They won't do anything to me if you post this. I'm friends with the owner." If that's the mindset of management, it's no surprise customers are treated this way. It truly felt like only friends and family received special treatment while everyone else was left waiting without honesty or respect. I have no issue waiting when things are busy, but I do expect transparency, fairness, and professionalism. Unfortunately, this experience showed none of those qualities.

I finally walked up to the bartender, and he said he was busy. About 10 minutes later, he brought my soda but never apologized for the delay or acknowledged the long wait. Another 15 minutes passed, and I had still not received my food. I flagged him down again, and he asked, "What did you order?" I reminded him that I had ordered from the other employee. I waited another 10 minutes with no food. At that point, it had been almost an hour since I ordered, so I finally got the attention of the employee who originally took my order. He simply said, "OK, OK." As I write this review, it's 4:02 PM, and I still have not received my food. I understand places get busy, but the lack of communication, follow-up, and even a simple apology made this a very frustrating experience. When I went inside, I immediately liked the camping and outdoor vibes. The whole place has that rustic, lodge-style feel that makes it stand out. They had a bunch of pinball machines, which was a fun surprise, and there were murals all around the walls -- including ones of Lakers legend Kobe and the LA Dodgers. It definitely gives off strong local pride and a laid-back atmosphere. The inside is very spacious, with plenty of room to move around and a lot of TV screens, making it a solid spot to catch a game. I could easily see myself coming back to watch a Dodgers game there. That said, my experience at the bar wasn't the best. When I stepped into line to order, it seemed like the two beertenders were a bit distracted. There was a group of ladies sitting at the bar, and it felt like they were getting most of the attention. Usually, beertenders are welcoming and might ask something like, "Is this your first time here?" but the guy with the long mustache who served me gave off more of a "What do you want?" vibe. I asked for a taster, and he did provide one, but I didn't feel comfortable enough to ask to try anything else. At other breweries, I usually feel encouraged to explore the menu a bit more. Instead, I just winged it and ordered the Pink Lemonade Seltzer. It was okay, but compared to a lot of seltzers out there now, it wasn't very flavorful. It almost had a slight medicine-like taste. Because I didn't really feel the love from the beertenders, I ended up having just one drink and heading out. The space itself has a lot going for it -- great theme, fun games, plenty of TVs, and nice outdoor seating -- but I definitely think there's room for improvement in the customer service department. I might give it another try in the future, especially to catch a Dodgers game, but I'm hoping for a warmer, more welcoming experience next time.

Don't sleep on El Torito especially for their Sunday brunch all you can eat buffet! There's so much to choose from and I love that as a Mexican restaurant, they play music in Spanish so you really get in the mood! The decor and set up of the restaurant is beautiful and you truly feel like you are in a ranch in Mexico. One added touch we loved was the mariachi that was playing songs throughout the restaurant. We requested two songs from them and they did not disappoint! You pay per song just fyi which is very typical of mariachi groups. Service is amazing here too! The staff is very welcoming, respectful and courteous! Our server Ricardo was very kind and regularly checked in on us to clear our plates, the table or give us refills on drinks. He also made great suggestions like to try the Jamaica and it was so tasty! Ricardo was friendly and attentive throughout our visit to El Torito and we definitely can't wait to go back! Ok so let's talk about the food: There are tamales, enchiladas, rice, beans, sausages, eggs, an omelette station, a taco station with FRESH and HANDMADE tortillas!! Sooo good! You'll also find posole, menudo with all of the fixings and add ons. There's also aguachiles, ceviche, moles, chilaquiles, corn bread and there's also the obvious American helpings like bacon, pancakes, sausage too. Too many options to list them all! There's also concha's, a chocolate fountain, and other delicious Mexican deserts too! Just left this restaurant today on a weekday and the service we received was very poor. Today is our actual anniversary 11 years and I wanted just to have a nice dinner today as we both ended up having a long day at work and wanted my wife to enjoy a night out. As we enter this place about 6:30 pm, no one was at the reception area, but after a brief time of waiting in the lobby a server walked up and told us the dining area is not available to seat and we would have to wait about a 10 minute for availably, she suggested it would be faster service in the bar area. As me and my wife looked at each other we notice about 80 percent of the dining area was empty? We both due to hunger ignoring the warning signs kind of agreed to give it a try, but after we seated ourselves and watched tv for a while and looking for a server, it became evident that service was not on the menu. So, realizing this advice was not that great, we grabbed out menu and went back to the receptionist area were this time there was someone there. As we asked for a seat in the dining area, we were promptly told it would be a 15-to-20-minute wait. Once again 80 percent of the restaurant was empty? As we placed our menus on the podium, both of us looking at each other knew it was a lost cause and walked out realizing we would have to think twice before choosing this place again in the future. I spent Taco Tuesday at El Torito, and the guy making the tacos asked me what I wanted. I said pollo, but he said he doesn't speak Spanish. He said he's Cantonese, so I said I want chicken. He was obviously joking (because he's Mexican), but I think he said Cantonese because he assumed I was Chinese (which I'm not). Anyway, this slightly awkward "banter" aside, the lady (in the photo) was kind and lovely. She even gave me a chorizo, even if the "Cantonese" guy looked at her like, "Oh no, you didn't." But back to the food. The pollo tacos were spicy. The guy didn't tell us that they were spicy, so my nephew almost cried while eating. The pollo tacos were actually good, but I don't think kids will like them. It's the kind of spiciness that forces you to drink water or blow your nose. The best part of the meal was the unlimited sides bar. There were all kinds of salsas, which you can combine or top with corn, beans, lettuce, cabbage, cheese, onions, what have you. My experience was terrible because of the awful servers at today's brunch it is 11/7 a Sunday morning. And me and my husband went to brunch and the people serving the food were terrible! Well not all the serves, but the two white people at the waffle bar and the food bar next to the waffle bar were awful! They looked so ugly and miserable to be there working. Not to mention how rude and unwelcoming they both were. The small blonde lady was so rude and evil looking she would just grunt like an animal everytime someone approached the waffle bar. The man next to her wasn't any better he was a old white man with a dead look in his eyes also so terrible. I will not be going back if they continue to have those barbaric lowlifes serving the food. Save your money and go elsewhere. It's a great place don't get me wrong but those two serves ruined my experience. The others serving were not to bad except for those two racist white people! I ordered through DoorDash last night, and I called the restaurant and she answered because I wanted to make sure that my order would be 100% correct because I know the DoorDash people don't pay attention whatsoever. She reassured me that everything would be perfect, she answered all my questions that I had regarding the menu and she was so sweet the entire time. My food came, and it was the best fajitas and the best chips and salsa I've literally ever had in my life. No joke, my husband my brother-in-law's and all of us love the food so much that we are going to order again today. I wanted to thank her personally because my order was perfect because of her. I appreciate you being so kind to me, you're awesome. The food was nice and fresh, and so damn delicious. I ordered around nine at night, and it literally hit the spot. Made a reservation for 25 in the Patio room for a pre Christmas party. We met Ralph, the manager, and went over the set up of the room and the buffet one week before the party. The evening of the party 'Ralph met us and reviewed the times for the buffet and any last minute details. The server, Tiffany , made the party a success. Her attentive service was fabulous. She knew when a new guest arrived and immediately took their drink order, kept checking on the gurests for refills and kept refilling our guacamole and chips. The Buffet was beautifully presented and delicious. Tiffany kept chcking on us and cleared plates at appropriate times, served dessert promptly and was a welcoming and gracious server. The food was really, really good. I've eaten at several other El Torito's in different cities, but this location, the food seem to be fresher, moist and well seasoned than the other locations. I ordered the Carnitas and my friend ordered the Shrimp Enchiladas. We had Margarita's, and flan for dessert. The whole meal was awesome. And to top it off, we had an amazing waiter. His name was Pedro. Pedro was right on time, he was one of the rare waiter who didn't keep coming by asking how's everything when you had your mouth full of food, but sense the right moment to ask and suggest more drinks, and didn't mind getting me more avacado for my Carnitas. He didn't seem rushed, nor did he rush us, to hurry up to usher in the next diners. He treated us like friends, and truly enjoys his Job. I recently visited El Torito for dinner and had a wonderful experience. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The decor was festive and the music was upbeat, which added to the overall ambiance. The service was excellent - our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Speaking of the menu, there were so many delicious options to choose from! We started with the guacamole and chips, which were fresh and flavorful. For our entrees, I opted for the carne asada and my dining companion had the chicken enchiladas. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and bursting with bold, authentic flavors. To top it all off, we indulged in the churros for dessert. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and coated in cinnamon sugar - the perfect end to a fantastic meal. Our large group ate in one of the banquet rooms at El Torito Restaurant, 3133 E Garvey Ave N in West Covina, California on Saturday, July 18 (2026). We found the service, the food and the ambiance to be exceptional. Our group formed a buffet line and were supplied with a pre-chosen menu which included a variety of dishes that never seemed to run low ( thanks to our servers). We were very happy with these three main workers/servers assigned to our group named Gervacio, Ricardo and Salvador, because they were very attentive, efficient and courteous. They kept a constant check and refilled the needed dishes quickly, which allowed all to get their food in an expediate manner and then be able to sit down and eat around the tables while talking, sharing and comforting each other ( was just after a funeral service). The food quality is consistently excellent -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. From the made-to-order items like omelette and pancakes (the best pancakes!) to the classic favorites like enchiladas, tamales, tacos, pozole, and everything is well-seasoned and delicious! man i love the flautas here. they are so delicious. and they have really good margaritas too. taco tuesdays also! sunday brunch is pretty cool with champagne. the price is pretty normal mexican cuisine sitdown but its pretty good. they have a nice menu too. the bar has good selection as far as a cantina goes. but the service sucks. the greeters and seaters are very nice but the waitresses and bartenders are rude and crude. avoid them at all costs. they just seem a little too annoyed all the time. we asked for an extra side of salsa and the waitress looked so bugged. geeeeeez lady. they have a cantina too with karaoke but the selection is questionable. especially when everyone is singing old 1980s slow jams or weird 80s electro house. i dont want to hear you singing and reminiscing about your high school days while im munching on my flautas and dos eques. i dont always drink beer, but when i do its going to be in silence or to good music. read more

El Torito is my go to fancy Mexican restaurant. I'm saying fancy bgecause it is not like your typical taco truck of hole in the wall joint. I decided to leave this review because today I was treated very nicely by the waitress. She was polite, always smiling and checking up on us to make sure that everything was okay. Her name is Vanessa. Their enchiladas are my favorite. Cheesy oowie(or however you spell that) gooey goodness. I also like the fact that they come and prepare the guacamole right in front of you. KIt is very entertaining. My absolute favorite thing from El Torito is: Drumroll please..... Their sweet corn cake!!!! Oh man I could eat a whole bucket of that stuff. My wife and I tried making it at home with a copycat recipe offline but it was just not the same! Definitely try it if you go there. I had an amazing experience at El Torito yestuday! From the moment we walked in, the staff was warm, friendly, and attentive. The atmosphere had that perfect mix of lively and cozy -- great for both family dinners and date nights. The food was absolutely delicious! The fresh-made guacamole and warm tortillas set the tone, and the fajitas came out sizzling and full of flavor. Everything tasted authentic and perfectly seasoned. The margaritas were also on point -- not too sweet, just the right kick! Our server Pedro checked in often without being intrusive and made sure we had everything we needed. There was a little misunderstanding after waiting a few minutes for our table, 2 parties who arrived after ours got seated before us but that's okay it was a little hectic so it was an honest mistake no need to be upset at anybody for that but out of nowhere Maria T came to us shortly after and when we told her what had happened she sat us down very quickly and gave us without exaggeration some of the best service we've probably ever had eating here, our drinks were brought out quickly by her and she brought our food out in record time and made sure to check on us very frequently Maria T definitely made our evening here a 10/10 experience she was so amazing and kind and everything tasted amazing, looking forwards to my next visit here! read more

I had such a wonderful experience at El Torito thanks to Ramiro. From the very beginning, he made me feel welcomed with his friendly and respectful attitude. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, and you can tell he genuinely cares about the people he serves. Ramiro was not only attentive but also very kind and lovable, which made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. It's rare to find someone who combines professionalism with such a warm personality, and he truly made me feel valued as a guest. I was very disappointed in what I have experienced 10/22/13 in your restaurant. Manager on duty, Dolly Pagan, was very unprofessional and showed no concerns what so ever. We were accused of being thieves, instead of looking into the situation more to try to come up with a solution. We were verbally attackked and discriminated. We were also threatened by her stating that she will write down all our license plates and call the cops on us. She created a scene that was not necessary and delivered hurtful words that crossed the line. I am very disappointed in your manager Dolly Pagan. The drinks were very well made and actually nice and strong! I appreciate that because so many places serve drinks that taste watered down, and that definitely wasn't our experience here. The restaurant itself is really cute and has some great signs and backgrounds for pictures. We got some really nice group photos for our social media, and one of the employees even volunteered to take a picture for us so we could all be in it, which was really sweet. Even the girls' restroom was super cute and nicely decorated. You can tell they put thought into the little details throughout the place. Our waitress, Marissa, was wonderful from beginning to end. She was sweet, attentive and made sure we were taken care of throughout the night. The other employees we interacted with were also very friendly and helpful. I'm really happy our first experience here was such a good one. I would definitely come back for another girls' night, but I could also see myself coming back with my husband and kids for a family dinner. Definitely a place I would recommend.

There was plenty of parking in front of the restaurant as there are more parking spots than actual storefronts in this plaza. Overall, we would return again.
