Enjoyed the Sunday brunch for the first time. For a buffet style brunch the food was very good. Highlights were corn stuffing and the chile verde. The manager was great and gave us a tour of the set up. Salvador was a very nice and attentive server and did a great job. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance was lively with a good crowd.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would give them a try if in the Covina area. "FIMP" Food is my Passion

Had an amazing time with my family at El Torito! There were so many delicious options to choose from, and everything was fresh and constantly being replenished, which we really appreciated. He greeted us right away, got our drinks quickly, and was always nearby to make sure we had everything we needed without ever being intrusive. His attentiveness and friendly attitude truly stood out. Sometimes there's something comforting about a restaurant where you know exactly what you're going to get, and El Torito is one of those places for me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was pleasantly surprised by how bright, open, and inviting this West Covina location feels, making it an enjoyable place to sit down and relax.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While it's a chain, I've always found the food to be flavorful and consistently good, which is why I keep coming back. I'm also a big fan of the chips and salsa, and it's way too easy to fill up on them before the meal even arrives. Reliable restaurants are underrated, and I've never left this location feeling disappointed.

Oofff... I didn't realize it is a C rating, I pass by this place so frequently and I haven't been here in so long. I used to LOVE THE Corn cake, it's this sweet corn mash thats not really even a cake. We order the grande fiesta platter, and the ignited fajita superme. (We requested non spicy) Also a queso dip for the chips. It was so good we cleaned the plates off almost instantly, the flautas so flaky and crispy. Quesadilla stuffed with cheese. It was so satisfying. The service is a bit slow, not bad but I was getting a little impatient. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The inside is the same as always warmly lit, not too bright.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

First time at El Torito and I heard good things about the place an food. It was a weekday night so wasn't as busy, we only had to wait a few minutes for our table to be ready and we sat at a booth. The place was very well decorated with many statues, facade building structures and decorations as if you are in a very cozy homestyle village. The chips we got were a bit hard but the refills are much better, the salsa was actually really spicy. Unfortunately I am not good with spicy food, most of the food were listed as spicy, however, our server was able to accommodate and put in our order as non-spicy. We ordered the queso dip so I can eat the chips they gave, very delicious when hot! Difficult to eat once cooled so eat it while it's hot. We also got the Grande Fiesta Platter, nonspicy, which meant the wings were plain (still amazing, crispy), flautas were so flaky and crispy, and nachos were good but when the beans solidified it was hard to eat without sticking to my mouth. For mains, we shared the ignited fajitas supremas, it looks like it had the most to offer as a mix of everything. We got flour tortillas and it was good, I think the corn bread was the best, I feel they gave more shrimp than chicken/beef but the portions may be for one person rather than 2. Overall, we ate everything, I enjoyed the food, I really want to try their brunch buffet, I think I would enjoy it more.

Just left Sunday brunch at El torito on 3/15 and I don't even know where to start with what a disaster this place is. We made a reservation for 12 guests for my moms 64th birthday about 1 month in advance and requested to be sat outside for a more spacious and less noisy environment as we would have a newborn baby with us + my 90 year old grandmother. As soon as we got there, we were placed at a crammed table INSIDE although we were told originally told we would get the outside space. Upon sitting in the very tight space, we all got up to go serve ourselves at the buffet which did not have any plates available for about 10 minutes and a lot of the main dishes had not been replenished. Guests were squeezing in wherever they could in the buffet as there was 0 structure and no employees watching the buffet to make sure there was some sort of organization. It honestly looked like a bunch of ants fighting for food. My husband and I then got in the taco line while we waited for plates as it was a long wait for tacos anyway. There was 1 lady at the taco station making tortillas which took her a VERY long time to make. This is not her fault-only El Torito's fault for not staffing properly. When it was finally our turn to ask for tacos, she proceeded to give us tortillas and we helped ourselves to serving the meat as we saw other people doing so. The taco lady yanked the serving spoon away from my husbands hand and said it was her job to serve us. We thought that was very rude and uncalled for. We didn't know she was also supposed to serve us as she was SO busy making tortillas. Again, this is El Torito's fault for lacking organization. Aside from this, None of the food was labeled so there was a lot of very confused people just serving themselves. I had random people behind me asking me what the dish was that I was serving myself. Finally, when the mariachi came to sing my mom happy birthday, one of the hosts/servers walked a family of 10 right THROUGH the mariachi which completely ruined the video we were recording for my mom with the mariachi singing to her. This place lacks lots of class, good service, organization, and quality. I remember coming here about 10 years ago when it was a lot different. It's safe to say, we don't plan on coming back here and I don't advise anyone to come here for any special celebrations as management does not care to make your experience a special one. My mom was very disappointed that we had to spend her birthday here. My sister asked to speak to a manager halfway through our meal and we were told a manager would come but they never did. I would appreciate if management reached out to me directly so we could discuss this matter.

This is my first time ever here and definitely worth coming back again soon! Pedro, our server, made this experience the best ever. He was very attentive and helpful throughout the whole time we were there, always making sure we had everything we needed. The food was amazing, the portions were more than I could think. I had to get a to-go box! Very welcoming and everyone is friendly. Definitely will come back!

7/24 happy hour(3-7:00) Servicer seem like he had just started his shift, wasn't very attentive, chips/salsa dropped off then water, took a while to came back, to take our order. Took the order, but took a longer time to get the order delivered. I must also say the menu is a bit suspect, there's the picture of the Grande Fiesta platter. There is no price under it, it's on the other side of the picture!, a little bit deceptive. Also the picture showed Wings (we got tenders). The sliders!, seem like the meat slid off. Literally, no meat on the sliders. I like that jalapeño jelly sauce. Recommendation: ask customer if they want wings vs tender. But don't come back and tell them, oh "it's boneless". With everything going up you need to keep customers happy/coming back.

Not a pleasant experience. Elected to wait for our dinner table in the bar. Where we were ignored for 30 minutes while nearby customers were served more than once. Finally flagged down a passing waiter (not a bartender) who took our drinks & appetizer order. When we were finally seated in the main dining area, the server was slow arriving, a little rude, and tried to delay us placing our order. Our entrees arrived fairly quickly, but most of the food was lukewarm at best. I understand the restaurant was busy due to Mothers Day weekend, but that is not an excuse for the way we were treated. The main dining area was also very noisy, with at least 4 or 5 screaming unruly children running around and several large boisterous partie Update on 7/21/19: More than two months have passed and I still stand by this review and rating. "Sandy O." from El Torito never contacted me privately as promised. So much for valuing customer feedback. I guess since I'm not likely to ever be a customer again, it really doesn't matter. I just hope others don't have their special occasions tarnished by this establishment. read more

My husband and I each had the Street Tacos. I had carne asada, and my husband had chicken. We each thought our dinners were delicious! They both came with rice and beans - and we shared complimentary home made yummy chips and salsa. The restaurant was busy, and short-staffed. Our server, John Herrera remained cheerful, courteous, and provided us stress free terrific service, despite the fact that he was also bussing his own tables!! John was awesome, and the other staff were also smiling, helpful, and welcoming. We are from out of town. But, if we ever find ourselves again nearby, we will certainly come back!! read more

Haven't been here in awhile because we weren't happy with the food in the past but apparently something has changed because it was all delicious!! Last minute decided to come here and wasn't disappointed! They have a cute little bar outside where you can buy margaritas, micheladas or bloody Mary's while you wait. The boyfriend said the michi was spicy and delicious. Our server Ricardo was the best. He was very attentive and kept making sure we were ok. Leaving here stuffed and happy. My family and I used to come for Sunday Brunch before COVID and we really enjoyed it. Today was not so good arrived at 9:30am for Sunday Brunch we were disappointed . Food was cold , one of the servers was rude . Not a good experience. Giving a three star because our waiter was very attractive and nice. Felt that the price was way too high for cold food. First and foremost, the service here is beyond! our family of 44 walked in on a Wednesday around 1pm (after our grandma's funeral at Forest Lawn). We filled up the entire back patio and were taken care of by Roberto and Ricardo. They managed to take care of our entire party and they made it look easy! I decided to take my mother to this place for her birthday, they are very busy but the wait was very acceptable... they have a set up in front while you are waiting to get beers or michiladas. The service was excellent and we we were taken care of by Alicia! She is excellent and mad our visit awesome!! She kept coming and asking if we were okay...the manager was also checking in very good service and the food was great...spent a great afternoon with my mom and wife! I will definitely be back! I paid $21? That seems a little steep for a Carnitas burrito and a shredded beef taco. The receipt that I got back only had the total charge didn't have a line item pricing.

The bar has a lot of potential, but the service needs to match the quality of the drinks.

Don't sleep on El Torito especially for their Sunday brunch all you can eat buffet! There's so much to choose from and I love that as a Mexican restaurant, they play music in Spanish so you really get in the mood! The decor and set up of the restaurant is beautiful and you truly feel like you are in a ranch in Mexico. One added touch we loved was the mariachi that was playing songs throughout the restaurant. We requested two songs from them and they did not disappoint! You pay per song just fyi which is very typical of mariachi groups. Service is amazing here too! The staff is very welcoming, respectful and courteous! Our server Ricardo was very kind and regularly checked in on us to clear our plates, the table or give us refills on drinks. He also made great suggestions like to try the Jamaica and it was so tasty! Ricardo was friendly and attentive throughout our visit to El Torito and we definitely can't wait to go back! Ok so let's talk about the food: There are tamales, enchiladas, rice, beans, sausages, eggs, an omelette station, a taco station with FRESH and HANDMADE tortillas!! Sooo good! You'll also find posole, menudo with all of the fixings and add ons. There's also aguachiles, ceviche, moles, chilaquiles, corn bread and there's also the obvious American helpings like bacon, pancakes, sausage too. Too many options to list them all! Just left this restaurant today on a weekday and the service we received was very poor. Today is our actual anniversary 11 years and I wanted just to have a nice dinner today as we both ended up having a long day at work and wanted my wife to enjoy a night out. As we enter this place about 6:30 pm, no one was at the reception area, but after a brief time of waiting in the lobby a server walked up and told us the dining area is not available to seat and we would have to wait about a 10 minute for availably, she suggested it would be faster service in the bar area. As me and my wife looked at each other we notice about 80 percent of the dining area was empty? We both due to hunger ignoring the warning signs kind of agreed to give it a try, but after we seated ourselves and watched tv for a while and looking for a server, it became evident that service was not on the menu. So, realizing this advice was not that great, we grabbed out menu and went back to the receptionist area were this time there was someone there. As we asked for a seat in the dining area, we were promptly told it would be a 15-to-20-minute wait. Once again 80 percent of the restaurant was empty? As we placed our menus on the podium, both of us looking at each other knew it was a lost cause and walked out realizing we would have to think twice before choosing this place again in the future. I spent Taco Tuesday at El Torito, and the guy making the tacos asked me what I wanted. I said pollo, but he said he doesn't speak Spanish. He said he's Cantonese, so I said I want chicken. He was obviously joking (because he's Mexican), but I think he said Cantonese because he assumed I was Chinese (which I'm not). Anyway, this slightly awkward "banter" aside, the lady (in the photo) was kind and lovely. She even gave me a chorizo, even if the "Cantonese" guy looked at her like, "Oh no, you didn't." But back to the food. The pollo tacos were spicy. The guy didn't tell us that they were spicy, so my nephew almost cried while eating. The pollo tacos were actually good, but I don't think kids will like them. It's the kind of spiciness that forces you to drink water or blow your nose. The best part of the meal was the unlimited sides bar. There were all kinds of salsas, which you can combine or top with corn, beans, lettuce, cabbage, cheese, onions, what have you. From the moment we arrived, we were met with authentic thoughtfulness, and unmatched hospitality. Recognizing Gervacio, Ricardo, and Salvador --their exceptional focus, sincerity and warmth meant the world to us. Every detail was handled so seamlessly by the staff that it allowed us to focus entirely on comforting one another and being together without stress of handling the arrangements. My experience was terrible because of the awful servers at today's brunch it is 11/7 a Sunday morning. And me and my husband went to brunch and the people serving the food were terrible! Well not all the serves, but the two white people at the waffle bar and the food bar next to the waffle bar were awful! They looked so ugly and miserable to be there working. Not to mention how rude and unwelcoming they both were. The small blonde lady was so rude and evil looking she would just grunt like an animal everytime someone approached the waffle bar. The man next to her wasn't any better he was a old white man with a dead look in his eyes also so terrible. I will not be going back if they continue to have those barbaric lowlifes serving the food. Save your money and go elsewhere. It's a great place don't get me wrong but those two serves ruined my experience. The others serving were not to bad except for those two racist white people! I ordered through DoorDash last night, and I called the restaurant and she answered because I wanted to make sure that my order would be 100% correct because I know the DoorDash people don't pay attention whatsoever. She reassured me that everything would be perfect, she answered all my questions that I had regarding the menu and she was so sweet the entire time. My food came, and it was the best fajitas and the best chips and salsa I've literally ever had in my life. No joke, my husband my brother-in-law's and all of us love the food so much that we are going to order again today. I wanted to thank her personally because my order was perfect because of her. I appreciate you being so kind to me, you're awesome. The food was nice and fresh, and so damn delicious. I ordered around nine at night, and it literally hit the spot. Made a reservation for 25 in the Patio room for a pre Christmas party. We met Ralph, the manager, and went over the set up of the room and the buffet one week before the party. The evening of the party 'Ralph met us and reviewed the times for the buffet and any last minute details. The server, Tiffany , made the party a success. Her attentive service was fabulous. She knew when a new guest arrived and immediately took their drink order, kept checking on the gurests for refills and kept refilling our guacamole and chips. The Buffet was beautifully presented and delicious. Tiffany kept chcking on us and cleared plates at appropriate times, served dessert promptly and was a welcoming and gracious server. Ralph checked on us again for a wrap up review of the evening and thanked us for coming. I was very impressed with that. The food was really, really good. I've eaten at several other El Torito's in different cities, but this location, the food seem to be fresher, moist and well seasoned than the other locations. I ordered the Carnitas and my friend ordered the Shrimp Enchiladas. We had Margarita's, and flan for dessert. The whole meal was awesome. And to top it off, we had an amazing waiter. His name was Pedro. Pedro was right on time, he was one of the rare waiter who didn't keep coming by asking how's everything when you had your mouth full of food, but sense the right moment to ask and suggest more drinks, and didn't mind getting me more avacado for my Carnitas. He didn't seem rushed, nor did he rush us, to hurry up to usher in the next diners. He treated us like friends, and truly enjoys his Job. I recently visited El Torito for dinner and had a wonderful experience. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The decor was festive and the music was upbeat, which added to the overall ambiance. The service was excellent - our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. Speaking of the menu, there were so many delicious options to choose from! We started with the guacamole and chips, which were fresh and flavorful. For our entrees, I opted for the carne asada and my dining companion had the chicken enchiladas. Both dishes were cooked to perfection and bursting with bold, authentic flavors. To top it all off, we indulged in the churros for dessert. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and coated in cinnamon sugar - the perfect end to a fantastic meal. Our large group ate in one of the banquet rooms at El Torito Restaurant, 3133 E Garvey Ave N in West Covina, California on Saturday, July 18 (2026). We found the service, the food and the ambiance to be exceptional. Our group formed a buffet line and were supplied with a pre-chosen menu which included a variety of dishes that never seemed to run low ( thanks to our servers). We were very happy with these three main workers/servers assigned to our group named Gervacio, Ricardo and Salvador, because they were very attentive, efficient and courteous. They kept a constant check and refilled the needed dishes quickly, which allowed all to get their food in an expediate manner and then be able to sit down and eat around the tables while talking, sharing and comforting each other ( was just after a funeral service). El Torito in West Covina has truly become a staple in our weekly routine. We go every Sunday for brunch, and it never disappoints. The food quality is consistently excellent -- fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. From the made-to-order items like omelette and pancakes (the best pancakes!) to the classic favorites like enchiladas, tamales, tacos, pozole, and everything is well-seasoned and delicious! The service is just as impressive. The staff is welcoming, attentive, and efficient, even during busy brunch hours. We always request to sit in Ricardo's area. They make you feel valued and taken care of, he makes sure our drinks are always topped off, which keeps us coming back week after week. It's rare to find a place that maintains such consistent quality in both food and service, but El Torito in West Covina does exactly that. man i love the flautas here. they are so delicious. and they have really good margaritas too. taco tuesdays also! sunday brunch is pretty cool with champagne. the price is pretty normal mexican cuisine sitdown but its pretty good. they have a nice menu too. the bar has good selection as far as a cantina goes. but the service sucks. the greeters and seaters are very nice but the waitresses and bartenders are rude and crude. avoid them at all costs. they just seem a little too annoyed all the time. we asked for an extra side of salsa and the waitress looked so bugged. geeeeeez lady. they have a cantina too with karaoke but the selection is questionable. especially when everyone is singing old 1980s slow jams or weird 80s electro house. i dont want to hear you singing and reminiscing about your high school days while im munching on my flautas and dos eques. i dont always drink beer, but when i do its going to be in silence or to good music. read more

El Torito is my go to fancy Mexican restaurant. I'm saying fancy bgecause it is not like your typical taco truck of hole in the wall joint. I decided to leave this review because today I was treated very nicely by the waitress. She was polite, always smiling and checking up on us to make sure that everything was okay. Her name is Vanessa. Their enchiladas are my favorite. Cheesy oowie(or however you spell that) gooey goodness. I also like the fact that they come and prepare the guacamole right in front of you. KIt is very entertaining. My absolute favorite thing from El Torito is: Drumroll please..... Their sweet corn cake!!!! Oh man I could eat a whole bucket of that stuff. My wife and I tried making it at home with a copycat recipe offline but it was just not the same! Definitely try it if you go there. The atmosphere had that perfect mix of lively and cozy -- great for both family dinners and date nights. The food was absolutely delicious! The fresh-made guacamole and warm tortillas set the tone, and the fajitas came out sizzling and full of flavor. Everything tasted authentic and perfectly seasoned. There was a little misunderstanding after waiting a few minutes for our table, 2 parties who arrived after ours got seated before us but that's okay it was a little hectic so it was an honest mistake no need to be upset at anybody for that but out of nowhere Maria T came to us shortly after and when we told her what had happened she sat us down very quickly and gave us without exaggeration some of the best service we've probably ever had eating here, our drinks were brought out quickly by her and she brought our food out in record time and made sure to check on us very frequently Maria T definitely made our evening here a 10/10 experience she was so amazing and kind and everything tasted amazing, looking forwards to my next visit here! read more

I had such a wonderful experience at El Torito thanks to Ramiro. From the very beginning, he made me feel welcomed with his friendly and respectful attitude. He went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, and you can tell he genuinely cares about the people he serves. Ramiro was not only attentive but also very kind and lovable, which made the whole dining experience even more enjoyable. It's rare to find someone who combines professionalism with such a warm personality, and he truly made me feel valued as a guest. Many Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays were busy due to the hundreds of friends I brought and introduced to this place. Oh, so now I am banned from your establishment because I told and wrote truth...facts that other people have also experienced regarding Camila's poor manners. I expressed thee injustice in an email. Nothing was addressed. I have been a long time customer since it was Mariposa's Restaurant owned by Laura on Restaurant Row and here, on Rowland. I've held my tongue for a long time. Love coming here for many reasons. I love being there amongst my well receptive crowd of loving friends. Genuine kindness and customer service is important. I find it unfair to ban me for stating how I feel. Well deserved four to five stars for the chef, the karaoke hosts, the former server who was fired. I believe Heriberto/aka Eric/Heri was friendly, fun, efficient and well received. As a former schoolteacher and humanitarian, I believe in fairness, kindness and addressing rude people with hope that their actions do not affect others. Sadly, some do not like to be called out. Camila and Mauricio made a grave decision. Rather than improve on their behalf, they'd rather retaliate with vengeance. I hope that you heal and are careful with your future actions, Camila and Mauricio. By the way, several bar stools have sharp metal sticking way out. Someone can be hurt. I told staff last week, April 25, 2026. The protruding steel and stools are not safe.
