Working with Jason Gould was a an absolute pleasure! From the first time we met, he was very friendly, relaxed and knowledgeable. Jason worked with us on how we wanted to do a trade in, and we never felt pushed around. He let us make our decision of what was going to work best for us. We did not think we were going to leave that day with that car, but we did. Jason worked side by side with his partner Bill Van Oyen and got everything on the financial side completed by the end of our time there. Bill Van Oyen was also someone who made our experience like no other. He was available for every question we had, and went in detail about what we were getting ourselves into. I just bought my vehicle there in March. This was my second time purchasing a car from Elco. First of all they were not lenient on the price at all according to true car it was listed as a fair price and I could've got a better price for it but they didn't want to budge. Then I had a problem with my car, something was wrong with the camshaft and caused my car to turn off after I had already started driving. Then I tried to make an appointment online Saturday and was told that they would contact me. I waited until Tuesday nobody ever called me. And then after they inspected my car and they fixed the problem. Then tried to tell me all four of my tires needed to be replaced because they had dry rot!! I said are you kidding me I just bought this car there three months ago! Then they told me it would be $800 for new tires and I've been told that dry rot only happens when a car has been sitting for a while, so this should have been fixed before I got the car and it's also a safety issue so they shouldn't have passed it for inspection yet they gave me inspection papers that said pass. My sister purchased a car from here about two weeks ago. Prior to leaving I asked the sales guy to fill it up her gas tank because it was on empty and he said they couldn't do that. He gave her 4 coupons for free oil changes and said he would have her gas tank filled up when she came in for her first oil change. So if you can fill it up then why can't you fill it up now? I have purchased 6 new vehicles in my life and NEVER once have they tried to send me off on an EMPTY tank of gas. He finally agreed to fill her up but I shouldn't have had to beg for that. That's bad customer service. I also asked if she could have both key FOBS and was told they only give one on used vehicles. He said if she gets locked out she can call OnStar. You only get one free month. They didn't come down much on the price. She paid $9500 in cash. I am just still appalled by the fact that they would let someone spend that much money on a car and then leave them on an empty tank of gas. Way to get repeat customers! read more

It looks like I should have read these reviews before I dealt with the used car manager. I live a little far from the dealership, but drove there several times to see the car and work-out a deal. We did not come to terms at that point, so I called and talked directly with John Durham, the Pre-Owned Sales Manager, since my sales person was out ill. We worked-out a deal at about 10am Sat, they sent me the paperwork, I had my loan approved by 1pm, but had to wait until Monday am to get the check since the CU actually closed at noon. (The lady at the CU stayed an hour after work to get all of the paperwork ready) I called (a sales person Durham had assigned to the deal) and let them know everything was Ok and I would be there Monday afternoon to complete the deal. Since I was a "regular" customer, having bought two other cars in the last three years from ELCO, I thought the deal was done... Unfortunately, in one of the most unethical moves I have ever seen, Durham calls me at 6:15pm and tells me "he doesn't hold cars" and he sold it right out from under me. He proceeds to tell me that he has located another car just like the one I thought that I bought... That also turned-out to be BS. I cannot believe that ELCO allows this kind of behavior from their Sales Managers. I will take my business elsewhere from now on. After reading these reviews, I find-out that this is not first time that this same thing has happened. Someone at ELCO needs to look into the Preowned Sales department and find out what is going-on before the loose even more business. read more

After having my 2008 Tahoe serviced here for the last 5 years, and ELCO performing 5 repairs to my defective GM designed rear defroster, they have decided to wipe their hands clean of the problem...Now that it is out of warranty of course! They did assist some in trying to get GM to cover part of the cost to fix the problem, but then left the rest up to me. I fought with GM, but in the end neither ELCO nor GM would pay the remaining $200 difference to take care of the problem. So for $200, ELCO and GM have decided to say good-bye to my 2 Chevy vehicle's service business, my future new business, and accept my bad publicity! A pretty poor business decision in my opinion. - Remember, it is 10 times easier to keep a current customer than to find a new one. Decided to take my chevy cruze to the elco body shop to fix the door that was damaged. Did good work on the door but driving home I noticed my entire left rear taillight was not working. Contacted Elco via a Costco auto program. Initial contact with salesman named Eric was positive and attentive. I was later handed off to another sales rep. Business end of dealership seems completely underhanded. I was rushed through financing so sales rep could catch a hockey game, no deposit was collected although finance guy called about it over a month later, i was charged over $2100 for a warranty that I didn't agree to, and the registration/sales tax took over 8 weeks and mult. ELCO still has not reimbursed me for the Sales Tax and it has been 6 months. Paperwork all had bad address and financial loan information never received until a delinquent call from bank 2 months after car purchase. ELCO is not a principled business. read more

I went to Elco Chevrolet to purchase my wife a new vehicle for our growing family. I saw a very well priced GMC Acadia on AutoTrader and decided to call the dealership to make sure it was available. Chris Weaver picked up the call right away and assured me that the vehicle was in stock and that he was available anytime to help. He even emailed me back and forth to confirm the directions and my trade-in. The experience at the dealership was amazing, probably the easiest and quickest vehicle purchase I have ever made. They let me drive the GMC Acadia all the way back to my house in Wentzville to show my wife. Then upon returning they had already processed my trade-in, gave me an excellent price on my Mazda 6i, and had me ready to start financing. Chris was polite and a huge help throughout all of this. The financing portion usually is the worst experience, but Elco Chevrolet completely changed my mind! They were able to run my credit, get me an excellent rate on my auto loan and had me out the door in less than 30 minutes! I will certainly use Elco Chevrolet again and will also refer my customers to them. As someone that works in the insurance / auto industry, I'm glad to see there are excellent salespeople like Chris still out there. read more

I bought my VW GTI from Elco last April. I wasn't the most pleasant experience, I was not super fond of my salesperson. But I did purchase it, upon purchase I received 4 oil change certificates. I made multiple attempts to get my oil changed there and even when making sure they knew I was coming in, they wouldn't have my oil filter. Lets not mention there is a Volkswagen dealer across the street. So they finally changed the oil, and it spewed 2 of the 5 quarts out in the 15 miles home. They towed it back after treating me like I was stupid and cannot change or check my own oil, thanks service writer Mark for talking down to me. They next day they power washed the motor, which is bad for a Volkswagen, then let me take it home. It was a long weekend for me, the car did not run right on my way home, of course by now they were closed. I had to have someone help me get it back to the dealer again on Monday. This time the discovered that the power washing ruined a sensor and fouled a spark plug. I took it home and it still didn't run right on the way home so I took it back, they side it had a code and took care of a antifreeze leak. I didn't even make it home when a massive radiator leak caused me to have to pull over and have it towed back yet again. Whats the luck 2 tows in 2 weeks and the same guy does it! I still have yet another leak they will not address. So I filed a complaint with the BBB, guess I forgot to mention that I bought the car there and didn't just randomly have them change the oil, but their response to my complaint is that I talked to the technician and they told me that it was not their fault and that I should take it to a VW dealer. Problem is I never talked to a tech, and they never told me to take to a vw dealer, if that was true why did they keep fumbling to fix what they did to my car? If you want to be happy with your purchase avoid Elco Chevrolet at all cost. Rude service writers (Mark) and I would mention the incompetent tech I spoke with but never met. Avoid Them at all cost, they are the epitome of what you would think of used car salesmen and sneaky service shop ready to rip you off. read more

I inherited my aunt's 2001 Malibu back in high school. She bought it new from another Chevy dealer in St. Louis that ended up closing before the car made it's way to me. By the time I got it, Elco was just the most conveniently located dealer to take it for service. I know that early in the car's life it got almost a completely new engine due to a manufacturing defect but after that it wasn't too bad to maintain. I did have to take it to Elco a few times for issues including a couple of intake manifold gaskets, numerous brake jobs and a turn signal recall. I truly dreaded bringing my car these people--they were always rude and the issues always returned. At one point I asked to update my phone number in their system as my cell # changed, this was met with huffing and puffing, ending up taking 20 minutes. My aunt took the car here when it was hers and had the same experience. Terrible and unreliable service. Rude and unhelpful customer service. Very expensive (I spent well over $5,000 in repairs here and the issues always came back six months later). The last time I had work done on the car, I took it to Jim Butler Chevy in Fenton. They fixed all of the issues for $1,700 and I never had those issues again. Go, literally, anywhere other than Elco. read more

I purchased a used vehicle in January of this year. Was told it went through service and that there were some issues but they would be resolved. I test drove the truck and had a few concerns of my own so I addressed them at that time. I asked how much I could purchase the truck for as it sat vs getting the stuff fixed and for the price difference I agreed to the full asking price since they were going to correct the issues that were found. Upon picking the truck up I noticed things were not done. On my way home the alternator went out (which I did get reimbursement for) the truck still had a shake and a vibration. I took it back and was told the used car department manager said he wasn't spending any money on it and told service to not mess with it. I never pursued the situation as too many things happening in my life at that time. Now today I go to pick my car up since it had to go back to the shop to have the aftermarket A/C Compressor that they installed on it instead of an A/C Delco as I was told it would have and the bring it around with a cracked windshield. The porter tells me it cracked in the car was and gets his manager. His manager comes out and looks at it and says it must be from a rock chip. So after I get upset they are only willing to pay half the cost of the windshield. I didn't ask for it to be washed. I never saw a chip but now I have to pay for something that wasn't broken when I left it there. On top of everything else about a month after I got the truck I was cleaning and find out that there's been a fire at some point that happened under the truck that got hot enough to melt the carpet under the seat. Looking further the fuel lines and some other things under the truck were also melted and plain as day to see if you have the truck on a rack. SO BUYER BEWARE THEY WON'T STAND BEHIND THEIR WORD MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS IN WRITING IF THEY PROMISE YOU SOMETHING OR BETTER YET STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AS POSSIBLE. We bought a new Chevy Cruze at this dealer, after just 5 months it was damage by a real bad hail storm so we decided to take it to the dealer and get it fix, the shop manager told us it will be ready in 4 days, so we rented a car for those 4 days, when we came back for the car it was parked at the same place where we left it at. BTW GM YOU ARE WELCOME FOUR OUR GENEROUS BAILOUT THAT HAS HELPED YOU GAIN MORE PROFITS IN THE LAST FEW YEARS THAN IN THE LAST 20 I have had a recurring problem with my 2012 Chevy Cruze that I bought from ELCO Chevrolet in late 2011. With about 25 thousand miles I started to smell what seemed to be plastic burning....like a wire..or something. I took to service department where the valet smelled the issue and did not want to drive my car until it aired out. I waited to find out what was happening and after about an hour was told that the technician couldn't duplicate the problem..and please give us 80 dollars. I refused..argued with service rep and talked to manager who made the service rep ride with me down the block. He immediately smelled the smell and I took the vehicle back later that week..where they repaired an issue with the "coolant System" based upon a service bulletin about antifreeze smell in passenger compartment. I was assured that this would solve the problem but that the smell may persist until it "burnt off" but doubted that this would fix the problem as I was not complaining about anti freeze smell in the passenger compartment After FIVE....(and recently my sixth...for what I was assured by service manager, would be the last time i would need to have this issue addressed) return visits where, another service bulletin repair was done..... being told more than once..... that there is no problem they can find after diagnostic testing, after being told that they found a plastic bag that had "attatched" to my exhaust had been causing this problem for three years I became near furious but held my temper I complained to GM Arbitration....about my experiences who informed me that they would talk to the dealer for me....make sure that my issue was addressed but that the first steps had to be to allow the dealer one final opportunity to fix my problem. I received a call from their service manager Greg the following monday....who reassured me that If I was willing to bring my car back in...show them the problem...and how to duplicate it that he had the best tech in the united states who.....if he can smell it he will find what the problem is... Reluctant................ I returned the vehicle to them for what I was promised would be the resolution ( See how they say they FIX'd the problem below....... yea it aint fixed) After keeping me informed of "everything they were doing" like smelling the smell.. doing simple diagnostic testing of the cooling system and assessing the functionality of my heat (that it worked and got real hot when the car runs for about 20 mntues with the heat on) I was told that they sprayed disinfectant into my cooling system to cover up the smell..... I was told that if the problem persisted I could call and bring it back this week...and that they would keep the work order open The smell returned this Monday and I called.....I called yesterday to Greg and Kyle the service managers....neither of whom have returned my calls as of todays date 2/4/2015. I spoke to GM Arbitration twice yesterday.....who said that ELCO chevrolet is "at a loss" as to what is causing my problems and that they are refusing to do anything else to address my problem....basically they are saying "Yes...we know you have a problem...and we cannot fix it......and F&^K Y*U!!!!!!" When you have no consequences from GM.......why would you even try to f ix something Due to ELCO chevrolet negligence at addressing my problem and my MELLOW nature...who didn't complain as strongly as I should have until December 2014....I have been told by GM that buy back is not an option because my car is too old....they have offered to work with me at "getting me into another car...via working out a deal with ELCO Chevrolet......." there is now a supervisor involved from GM Arbitration who has also told me that there is little they can do for me..except refer me back to the dealer. I asked to speak to his supervisor or the General Manager form GM from my area, and they have Declined to refer me..give me a phone number..or email address. I have been offered an "address" to which I can write a letter and "see if they get back to you"......but no name to address it to....no other contact information other than a physical address.. THIS ISSUE IS ONGOING AS OF TODAY 2/4/2015 and there has been no final resolution/repair/offer of good intent/ calls back from service/ Needless to say I feel insulted, ripped off, ignored, and my butt hurts a bit. On January 2 2016 i bought a truck from elco chevy Cadillac. A month later still haven't received the title. You would think you would get the title before your first payment. Called numerous times finally got email saying i lost title I never received . temp plate expired. Now i can't drive my new truck. never will deal with them. HORRIBLE Service. I even tried to resolve this with the General Manager- rude and unhelpful! Multiple issues on our ATS, has to go back after every repair for the same issue to be fixed, or they can't even find it and we have to point it out. Interior is always dirty with grease every time we get it back, etc, etc. Engine failure on this car at 18K miles...piston failure. Ask dealer to call and discuss engine replacement VS just piston replacement...call back and say it's done and only replaced pistons. 2 days later, car makes a pop, loses all engine power, making loud noises and smelling like oil. Service dept doesn't want to hear the complaints and seems annoyed to help. Good luck winning back European car customers Cadillac...dealer service like this is why we'll be going back to a European brand. I work in the automotive field and this is piss poor service. I'd look elsewhere. I had a bad experience there years ago with a very high pressure salesman that was doing everything in his power to not let me walk out the door including sort of standing in front of the door while still spouting off his garbage. After that I swore I'd never go back...Well, recently they had 2 of the type of vehicle my wife wanted in stock and they are somewhat hard to find, so I went back. This time the salesman was a really nice guy, and I have no complaints with him at all and I would have been happy to do business with him. The only issue is that IMO the price on the vehicles was way high for the condition they were in. One had a bad engine tick, rust on the bottom of the quarter panel, hole in the arm rest, hole on the council, etc. so that ran me away immediately. The other seemed mechanically sound but cosmetically wasn't great. Based on the cosmetic defects and other issues I will explain I shot them a reasonable offer below their asking price. I was told something like "we're not really that type of dealership where we negotiate, this is our rock bottom price" Keep in mind the vehicle had a wreck in its history, about a nickle sized chunk of paint missing with bare metal exposed on the quarter panel, scuffs and scratches everywhere (actually you could tell somebody grazed a pole or something and it had a light scuff running from the front all the way to the back of the car), etc. . The tires were at the end of their life "we were told by elco that they were fine" but I know better. I am pretty knowledgeable about cars and do a lot of my own mechanic work on my cars and my motorcycles, plus it doesn't take a genius to see that the tread is almost gone. The salesman told us they checked brake pad wear and the brakes were getting toward the end of their life but apparently according to him "they often never have to be changed in a vehicles lifetime" which is a complete crock of crap. The car was also due for a timing belt change as all Honda's are after a certain mileage. They had no record of it being done, so we would have to buy the car and either take it straight to a mechanic and fork out cash or I'd have to break out the wrenches and get to work. Sorry, but not happening on a car I am buying from a dealer. I understand used vehicles aren't perfect, but this thing looked rough for the price, combined with the bad tires and timing belt issue it was a bad deal. My wife wanted it so we made and offer against my better judgement. Anyway, they refused to budge at all on the price which shocked me given that the tires needed replaced and it was due for crucial maintenance. If you don't change out that timing belt and it breaks, you bend the valves and open up a big expensive problem. So we walked away and went to Jim Trenary to look at one they took in on trade. The car they had was single owner, the paint looks almost like new, the interior literally looks like it never left the show room, it was a higher trim package fully decked out with DVD player for the kids, back up camera, etc......and we paid less for it than the one elco had. Yeah the one we got had a little more mileage, but it had maintenance records, timing belt had been done, tires were good, and it was in overall way better condition. Elco lost a sale based on their refusal to negotiate at all on price and as it turns out I am grateful for it because the other car we got was a far better deal. Needless to say, that was my last trip to elco. read more

I would give them a no-stars but that is not possible. We have been on the hunt for a new Chevy Traverse. They had a model with the style we wanted so we stopped by for a test drive. Everything was friendly enough when we walked in, lots of smiles and hello's. I thought this was great and seemed like a more of a 'family' business then a big car dealer. After driving the Traverse we came in to talk price. The salesman wrote down a price, factored in some current GM discounts and gave us the final number. It was thousands higher than a number we were given at Jim Butler the night before (the problem there was they didn't have the style the I wanted and it wasn't arriving until Monday.) We explained that to our salesman, who immediately logged on and started looking at Butler's website with and significant change of attitude. My husband gave him a price that we would like to start with and he stood up while my husband was speaking to talk to the manager. My 8 year old daughter even commented, "that man was ignoring you Daddy". The manager came over and said good luck, I'll applaud you if you can get a better deal. Basically the feeling we got was of being "thrown out"!! I understand that everything is a negotiation but their unwillingness was shocking! I'm happy to say we went to another dealer--George Weber Creve Coeur worked with a fabulous salesman named James Duckworth and are now the proud owners of a 2015 Traverse LT! I will be adding that review next but please save your hard earn dollars and go to a dealer that knows how to treat customers, even if you don't come to an agreement. read more

Service manager Kyle Foppe was deceitful and tried to charge me $95.00 for a diagnostic fee on for a lock that would not work when I told the service person what was wrong when I dropped the car off. I dropped it off at night and did not sign an agreement that I would be charged $95.00 for diagnosis. I called at 3:30 p.m. and said I wanted my car back and they said that I could not get it until the next day even though they close at 7:30 (the car had to be put back together). Kyle told my wife to call at 6:30 a.m. when I called no one answered until 7:00 a.m. and first he was in a meeting, then on the phone and then with a customer. I drove there waited for an hour and finally he appeared and said that he had a surprise audit. The car was in the lot ready when I got there and I don't think they put it together overnight. I am almost positive they never even took the car apart to diagnose it since I told them what was wrong in the beginning. After I did not want to pay the $640.00 to fix the lock they wanted the diagnostic fee. Then they had a "discount" price that they could fix the car for, why didn't they offer that in the first place? Very shady business practices. read more

I picked up Chev Traverse from service on June 29, 2016. It was in for a check engine code PO451. I watched my local garage pull this code and it took less than 15 mins to set up and do. The part was $45 on the internet for Ac/Delco brand. Good news was that Elco charged only $51 for the part. Bad news is that they kept the car two days for a 45 min repair...this is part of their no appointment better service way of thinking...which means more car rental revenue for them. they took 1 hr 45 at $140/hr to put a part in that all kinds of people o the internet did in from 5 mins..on a u tube video to 25 mins. When asked how long did it take to install the part Elco service rep responded 'about' an hour...no notes on invoice by the way. That means that it took their experienced 10 times as long to install the part as the reg guy in the video and it took that same Elco guy 3 times as long to pull the code as it did my local garage. When I asked for an adjustment I got offer of a free oil change!! ha ha who would come back for that! If u buy a car there u need to know u CANNOT get service here. Including car rental which they refused to cover or share....this was $325 for a 45$ part and 30 min install. read more

I've bought over 11 cars in my life. By far this was the WORST EXPERIENCE ever! Jim McCormack was my sells man. It started with him not having much knowledge about the car. I drove the car and a service charging system light came on, he said they checked and it was good to go. THE LIGHT came on three days later and the car completely died on the road and I had to steer to safety. I couldn't get out the car since the electricity was out and had to wait 1 hour in 100 degree weather and humidity till help arrived so they can take me out through the trunk. I got the car towed called service and they told me the car was never looked at and Jim LIED saying they did looked at it and was rude telling me to bring it in and I was liable for repairs! I took it to my mechanic and I had to pay over $1100 for everything! Before that they told me they'd pay 1/3rd of the cost I than got a check for only $150 with a call from the manager saying that's all they can give me. It is horrible spending $1100 on a car three days later after you buy it and being told to screw off. Every dealership I've been to has cared about their customers after purchase and not telling them to screw off after buying from them. One thing is making a sale the other thing is LYING to make it.
