I called to get someone to fix it and they said that the person who cut it had to fix it. Against my better judgment, I went back in and she actually made my hair worse! I needed a haircut and was leaving on a few days to go to a wedding so I wasn't sure anyone could squeeze me in. After messaging the salon I received a response in less than 10 minutes and got a same day appointment! I went to the Ballantyne location with Katie. Let's talk about how amazing she is. I'm terrible at explaining how I want my hair to look so I showed her a few pics of some long bobs and explained I need to be able to pull my hair back for work so I couldn't cut too much off in the process. She explained to me how much I would have to cut to make it work, and let me decide beforehand if I was okay with that (instead of just snipping away like some people do). It turned out amazing! I am so happy with my cut that I would exclusively go here time and time again. Also, they use Aveda products which made my hair smell amazing and look super healthy. What I appreciate the most about this salon is that they don't push the products on you like some salons in Charlotte, but let you know what they used in the event you would like to buy it. Edit: In addition to this review I would like to add that I went to see Lauren as well at this salon and she was the bomb!! I always had a fear of starting over at a new salon; due to the string of bad hair luck. I've only risked it 3-4 times in 12 years and at the expensive /popular salons in Charlotte. Once is one time too many to have your hair ruined. I found myself stuck with the same boring blonde color and style. Love this salon. The stylists are professional and still friendly, as well as knowledgeable about the health of your hair. I have not been BURNED by a blow dryer, as I have at other establishments and my hair has been washed using finger TIPS - NOT finger NAILS! I have always been shown my completed style in a hand held mirror to be sure it is suitable for me. I rarely have to wait more than 10 minutes and am always asked if I would like coffee or water while I wait. Another plus is that stylists don't feel the need to "talk to distraction ". Thank you! The only complaints I have are the prices charged . A shampoo and style is $40 . If a flat iron is used, there is an extra charge- maybe $10? Those prices seem pretty steep for getting one's hair shampooed and blown dry . I have not had a flat iron used but I do, on occasion, need one to help my hair to lie flat and tame any "sprigs". The stylists have done well with the blow dryer and round brush so far and using a little oil on any "wayward" hair. All in all , this is a very nice place to go- the facility is clean and spacious, the stylists are professional and seem interested in being sure you are happy with your hair. read more

Ended up getting my hair done by Brittany at their South Park location this past Saturday and she's amazing. The staff was very professional and organized when I arrived and Brittany took a lot of time talking to me about what I was wanting going over photos and hair swatches. After six months of growing my hair out, it got to the point where the ends had become so shaggy that if I drank too much wine, there was a high risk that I would take scissors to it myself. And we ALL know how that turns out. Fortunately, I was near Element 5 salon and I was able to score a walk-in appointment within the hour. My appointment was with Allison. She was friendly and listened as I told her the goals I was trying to accomplish by growing out my hair. She asked me what kind of look I was going for, if I wanted layers in the back or if I wanted it more straight, and we mutually agreed to take off 1.5 inches, or about half of the growth from the last 6 months, to even out the last remaining layers in the back. After a shampoo and conditioning in the sink, Ashley got to work on trimming my hair. Cutting hair, especially when you're trying to get it to grow out rather than cutting it in any specific style, isn't too challenging but the real risk is getting a stylist who chops off way more than you want, or who doesn't communicate or listen. Allison did a great job, and certainly didn't leave me surprised by the amount she cut, which I really appreciated. Allison pointed out that the only remaining layers were some face-framing layers, from some long ago grown out bangs. We agreed to just layer and soften the ends of the very front, leaving me with a softer framed look up front and no layers left in the back. I love the results of my much-needed trim, and the entire staff at Element 5 was welcoming and friendly. Allison recommended that I come in every 3 or 4 months if I'm trying to grow out my hair and just get a half inch taken off to keep things even. Now that I know this salon is there, I will be sure to get in more frequently as my hair grows out. All in all, a great experience. I'd recommend the salon to anyone in the area. read more

I have been with Ken for over a year and LOVE him. He does amazing things with my hair. Whatever new change I come up with, he manages to get it done beautifully and it never costs too much. I just went to Element 5 for the first time on Friday and had an appointment with Ken. I'd like to give you some background before I go much further. I used to have a fantastic hair stylist in Los Angeles that I loved and went to for many many years, but since moving to the Charlotte area in late 2017, I have been unable to find someone that I like and that knows how to handle my hair. I have pretty thick, naturally wavy hair that likes to frizz. I like to keep it straight and just above shoulder length, in a slight A line, with the back thinned out really well. That doesn't seem like a challenge to most stylists, but I found that I was very unhappy with either the cut, rapport, or whole experience at the salon, with the other places I tried. On Friday, I was getting ready for a bachelorette party out of town and wanted my hair shampooed, cut and blown out, so I made an appointment earlier in the week through yelp at element 5. (Due to the positive reviews). When I arrived at my appointment time, I sat down for maybe 30 seconds before Ken greeted me and walked me back for the consultation. He was very attentive to what I said I wanted, asked great questions, and we agreed on a length to cut. We then went to the shampoo station and it started out like it normally does, but then he got to the conditioner and gave me a fantastic head massage. Now, I've never had a male stylist before, but that head massage will be one of the reasons I come back. Because he doesn't have nails, he was using his fingertips and it was nice because he wasn't scratching my scalp. (I've had some stylists who I swear we're drawing blood with the scratching). That alone is worth 5 stars. Anyways, the cut went well. We talked and had, I felt, a good report (which is hard for me because I'm naturally quiet). He listened to me and gave me great suggestions on how to manage my hair through the winter months here in the humidity. He took his time and cut my hair in more sections than I'm used to. He also took his time bowing it out. I will just say that the cut he gave me is fantastic and I'm really enjoying it. The overall experience at Element 5 was amazing! Go see McKenzie!!!! She is amazing! I have super thick, curly, naturally brown hair. Not only is McKenzie has been helping me go platinum blonde, she does it in record time! My old hair dresser would spend 8+ hours coloring and cutting my hair (without styling) McKenzie cuts, colors and styles my hair in about 4 hours! I recently moved to Charlotte from Atlanta and I've had the same hair stylist for the past 10 years. It took a lot of courage for me to try a new spot. It was my first time booking an appointment with Element 5, and to my surprise, I really enjoyed my experience there. Customer service was incredible! I requested to book an appointment the night before at 11 pm and they were able to squeeze me in with Nadine the next morning! The response time from the owner was less than 5 mins and she was very accommodating to my last minute request for an appointment. Once I arrived, I was greeted immediately by Nadine and I appreciated that she started on me right away. I showed her an example of the hair color and cut that I wanted and she managed to transform my dark hair into the ash blonde balayage color that I requested in one session! Nadine was very thorough with her work, and offered great advice by recommending certain hair products to keep my hair from becoming toobrassy. Their prices are definitely reasonable and not too outrageous especially for the quality of their work. Highly recommend! I will be back to see Nadine! read more

Like other reviewers, I had a really great experience at Element 5. When I walked in today, my hair was not in good shape. The last time I had it colored in Michigan it got really messed up and looked as though it had five different colors in it. My stylist, Reid, was attentive, professional, and proved she has coloring chops. She gave me an express highlight and an all over color to fix the previous mistakes. I left looking like my old self, maybe even better! The salon has a relaxing ambience, with fun industrial/rustic decor. I was really impressed with the high level of customer service I received. The salon closes at 5 pm on Mondays, and I walked out at around 5:40 pm. The color correction and length of my hair made for a long appointment. Not once did I feel Reid was rushing to finish up, and all three ladies still in the salon were genuinely courteous and friendly as I checked out. I highly recommend this salon and Reid. A few months later I decided to make a second appointment. I wanted to fill in my balayage with my natural hair color and get a hair cut this time. I made the appointment two weeks in advanced. They sat me down, analyzed my hair and after 10 minutes came to tell me that the process would take too long so they couldn't attend me today and I had to reschedule. No real solution was provided or no compensation. As a full time working mom of two who was so excited to finally get some quality me time and a little makeover I was very upset.
