I would never use this company again. Elephant Movers are unprofessional. They took their sweet time to move a 2BR apartment from Mid Wilshire to Palms. We'd already packed up most of the apartment. It took them 10 hours. They packed heavy items on top of fragile items. I also found a banana peel from their lunch, and other trash, like used up tape rolls, packed in a box with our dishes. They scratched our furniture. They broke the key off in my filing cabinet (luckily it was unlocked). When I asked them why it was taking so long, one of the movers laughed and said maybe you should have hired 5 movers instead of 4. And this company is not cheap. I have used Elephant moving several times, and I keep coming back because I find they do such a good job. My latest move was far more complicated. We were downsizing and moving into a small apartment while we renovated our new home. Don Tonty came and gave us an estimate, as he has done in the past. I understand that Don will be retiring soon, and I am sure he will be missed, but Graham and his team seem up to the task. For this move, some things went into storage, while others were to go to the apartment. We used colored post-it notes to differentiate the items. I hate moving. I mean I really, REALLY hate moving. Strange, because I do it so damn often, every 1-2 years even after college, but whatever. So, anyway, I'm moving AGAIN, and the last time I moved I promised myself that I'd never make my friends do it again, because the last time, I snapped at my mom, and she gave me that "I know you hate moving which is why you're in a shitty mood, and I'm going to give you a pass on your attitude but I'm going to let you KNOW THAT I KNOW"-- so I decided to always hire people instead of obliging my loved ones to my funk. My move was not big-- only half an apartment, and granted, when Elephant showed up with their yooge truck (fifteen minutes early, no less) I thought for a second that it would have been better to rent a U-Haul and then hire the loiterers outside of Home Depot, but there was no turning back. The two guys, Fidencio and Saul, packed up my stuff in less than an hour, and then unpacked it and had it all in my new place in the next-- neither my furniture nor the door jambs in either my new or old place worse for wear. Since I moved during the week, they quoted me $79/hour for two guys, with a 2-hour minimum instead of the normal 3, which was really nice. Even though I didn't even fill a quarter of the space in their truck, I'd still consider them for the same size move because they showed up on time, were upfront about the price, and moved my stuff quickly and carefully. Adding insult, when we finally reconnected I was asked to repeat critical information like my current and new address, full list of items to be moved, etc. He kept no records!!! On one returned call, I asked him for 10 minutes so I could exit my parking structure because we had a bad signal. He told me "no" because they were technically closed at 5:15pm and I should call him tomorrow. He lacked the patience I exhibited when after waiting 2 hours for him to call me back. At this point the move I was trying many times to confirm was in 2 business days due to the 7/4 holiday and we were in the process of finalizing details so I knew this was the company I wanted to use. I think this company is amazing! They moved me 8 years ago and it couldn't have gone faster or smoother. The price was beyond reasonable and the movers were very professional. My level of frustration was high due to the fact that I had previously attempted to hire another moving company who was charging me an arm, a leg, one eye, my nose and my kidney to do the same job. They surveyed the storage before they even began to pack anything. I had my doubts as to the furniture fitting in the truck. Clay reassured me that he knew what he was doing, in a very reassuring voice and with the utmost respect and professionalism. They took extreme care with each and every item in my storage. Their level of confidence was outstanding. I am sure that if my items could talk, they would have said, "We have never been handled with such care....NEVER!" When we arrived at the new storage, once again they looked at the smaller area and said, "piece of cake". Once again I was very doubtful. But just like a tetris game they were able to fit everything in the space ....with ROOM TO SPARE!! I literally stood there with my mouth open. My sister moved this weekend, and upon a recommendation from a colleague, she hired Elephant Moving Company. As other reviewers have said, the truck looks bad, but the were GREAT movers. They showed up within a few minutes of the arrival time, and were hard at work soon enough. Though she had a TON of stuff, from living in the same house with her husband and 3 kids for 15 years+, Elephant's team of movers were able to efficiently load it all in their truck in less than 3 hours. The distance between the old house and new was not far, and they followed us over in their truck. Although the new house had stairs to climb to the front door, they went about their work very quickly and efficiently. The final cost was surprisingly less than the quote, because they worked so diligently. They were done with the entire move in less than 8 hours, and on a Sunday no-less. Never used movers before. These guys were AMAZING. I had a younger Caucasian man and an older Latino man that said they worked together often (only mentioned because I can't find the card with their names, and I want their employer to know how great they were!) Their working together alot meant that they worked well together, worked quickly, and were REALLY funny. Not only were they great, but they had me in stitches the whole time! Fun, quick, and completely up front about their quote ($79/hr for two men, two hr minimum). They also helped me set up my bed! He was so thorough in asking what we'd need, and then gave me a quote so much lower than other companies that I would have been suspicious if I hadn't been referred by a friend who'd used Elephant and raved about them. These movers were great; I would definitely use them again. Leo, Saul and Christian were awesome! Leo led the group and communicated very effectively during the entirety of the move. He was a great leader to the team and his personality made the move fun (if you can imagine moving being fun!). I had them both pack and move my items and they were able to do it all in one day! They were both quick and careful. They are not the cheapest but worked all day and gave a very fair price. I will say that communication before the move was a little rocky (I had to follow up and confirm and I wasn't told until the day before the move that they don't take cc!), but for the most part I am very happy with the service. I really enjoyed working with these guys, everything from the initial set-up to the movers, and the actual move day. I initially moved from a house to a storage unit for a week and then a week later had these guys come back out to help me unload at my new place, and they did a great job. Graham was completely professional and knowledgeable in regards to time, and pricing of both moves. Also, he was really helpful and patient with me as I had never really had movers in previous moves. On both moving days the movers showed up on time and they were professional and efficient. Leo was really nice and helpful, and he communicated what was going on throughout the entire day of the move. They helped me pack on the first move, and I have not had one problem finding anything, and NOTHING broke. Also, they helped put furniture together and arrange it the best they could. And my daughter has a loft bed from IKEA, which is (if you've ever bought IKEA furniture) a huge pain in the butt to get those things together and apart. But the movers took it down and put it back together with no problem. Finally, when I forgot to get the storage keys back from them on that Saturday because I was in a hurry to leave, Graham offered to either meet me the next day or overnight them to me on Monday. I couldn't meet him so I had him overnight them and had them by Tuesday, and he even followed up with me to make sure that I had received them. I second Pam M's review! We hired these guys to move us a few months ago and I wouldn't recommend them to my worst enemy! My husband and I packed up our 2 bedroom house ourselves. It took 4 guys from 10 am until 11 pm to move our stuff to our new house 10 miles away!!! There was so much bickering amongst them they couldn't get any work done! We even provided pizza and soda hoping this would motivate them to get their butts in gear. In the end my husband and I worked harder than they did to get everything unloaded and then they hit us with and extra $230 fee because of our driveway being too steep! This is Socal! Nothing here is flat or accessible! In the morning I found quite a few dishes broken, a HUGE gash in the back of a dresser, the headrest to a chair was missing and the plastic wrapping left around a number of pieces of furniture. The best part was when I walked up the driveway the guys had dumped about 5 boxes, a few soda cans, tape, plastic bags and some general garbage all over the street!!! I'm sure the neighbors appreciated that! We called and complained. We were told we deserved a refund. We did get our headrest mailed to us. We never got a refund. English blokes my arse! This is the second time I've used them (first time back in 2008), and I have only great things to say about them. Graham (in the office) was personable, informative, and asked all the right questions to ensure both his team and I were ready for the move. The two actual movers arrived on time, packed/wrapped every piece of furniture with care, as if they were moving their own items. Had to do two stops on this move, taking some items to a new town home, and the rest to a storage unit. They moved efficiently, effectively, and asked for input at any point where there was a question about where an item was to move, or how I wanted something wrapped. To the readers looking to move: Be sure to do your own homework and prep ahead of the move. It will help the movers be efficient and keep the process moving forward to your liking. Working ahead with Graham, I knew what I had to do in order to prepare. Their pricing is right in line with the competition, so don't expect outrageously expensive pricing, or for them to be the "cheapest movers in LA." I'm a big believer in getting what I pay for, and had no problem with the cost of this move. Their services were well priced, they did exactly what they said they were going to do, and my 30-mile move from an apartment into a new town home was completed in just over 1/2 a day. Horrible movers! I wanted to try them for years because their estimates are always good. I finally tried them for my last move and they were terrible. The broke lots of stuff and tons of scratches, dings (smashed my computer, lamps, etc). They forgot a bunch of stuff and then had to load things into my car because they said the truck was already loaded and they didn't want to repack everything to fit the stuff they forgot to load. The one guy was SOOO chatty! He was the guy wrapping furniture and he kept stopping to tell me stories I didn't want to hear. He was very friendly but I'm not paying him by the hour to talk to me. They kept asking me to help carry things too. They have three guys and I'm paying based on a "not to exceed" estimate. Why should I have to carry as much stuff (probably more) than any of those three guys? And the one chatty guy kept asking for food. He kept saying "most people have food for us" even after I already fed him several times. Also, they were VERY slow, and they kept disappearing throughout the day. I finally went looking for them and found one guy just sitting in the truck drinking a beer. I never found out where the other two guys kept going. At the end of the day I got a call from the supervisor (owner? dispatcher?) saying they went three hours over the not to exceed price and blamed it on a "long walk" from the elevator. He insisted that I pay at least half of the overtime. I won't use those guys again. I should say though this move was almost a year ago. I'm just writing a review now because I'm moving again and looking for better movers. Maybe they have improved over the last year but I doubt it. read more

I used this company for my move from USC to Downtown about a year ago. The reason that I am just NOW getting around to writing this is that a fried of mine had asked my advice on moving companies, which made me remember my very very less than mediocre experience with this company. First of all, the movers were highly unprofessional and didn't seem as though they had any training or knowledge about the proper way to lift and carry heavy things at all. THREE men showed up at my apartment with maybe one dolly and had to make multiple trips over and over (probably to stretch out their hours) carrying one box at a time. They also broke my TV. Granted, it was a tube TV that was already having issues because of a previous move, but after the Elephant Movers moved it, it never turned on again. I had to replace it. I hadn't bought insurance with their company so I figured asking them to replace it would result in nothing. The base of the TV was also cracked when they were done with it (it definitely was NOT cracked before they got their hands on it). When the truck was finally packed up to go I asked them if I should follow them to my apartment. They told me to go on ahead and they would call when they got there. It took me literally 15 minutes to get from door to door. It would have taken ten minutes if there hadn't been a detour on Figueroa. I figured since they were in a truck it would probably take them 20 minutes but NO! They show up A FULL HOUR after me!!! Where were they that entire time? I believe they were picking up fast food. I think they really stretched out their hours to get paid more. They didn't hustle, they didn't care about my stuff, and they were just really unprofessional. Overall, I think I was taken in by the nice reviews on Yelp, which made me go with this company. It took THREE GROWN MEN 3.5 hours to move my less than one bedroom apartment (I was moving away from an apartment with roommates to my own 1 br and didn't even have a bed yet!) and I moved 4 miles away. The only reason I'm even giving them two stars rather than one is because they wrapped up the couch pretty well and it made it in once piece and nothing in my boxes was broken. These guys did a great job. I like that Graham came out and did a free assessment of what the cost would be to move my home, provide about one months storage, and a delivery to my new place (note: I packed my own place) - what sold me was that in his contract we agreed to an amount that was capped. His 3 movers were extremely efficient and very nice - they wasted no time. Note - if you live in a condo/apartment it's a great idea to call the city to reserve a part of your street for the moving van (this was big as I was near a lot of construction). The only downside (which is also a great upside depending on how you look at it) is that they don't inventory. This is great because it saves a lot of time that costs; however, I worried about my stuff going missing (especially because it was going to storage). I can tell you that all my stuff was delivered quickly, in great condition, and most importantly everything was there.
